A pink paradise of electric neons. This collection garments embraces everything feminine from sickly sweet glitter fabrics to candy pink rubber and latex. These garments toy with the stereotypes surrounding femininity in contemporary
culture, with particular emphasis on “women should be” mentality. The stereotypical pretty pink colour palette may be what you first see, but delve deeper to reveal a world of rebellious femininity which is referenced through a use of innovative materials such as rubber, silicone and latex.
The juxtaposition of cute aesthetics collide with sexual references to create a thought provoking take on contemporary
female empowerment. This is something that we wanted to continue exploring with the shoot itself. Whilst at first
glance, the images look typically girly in every sense; the cotton candy wig, endless shades of pink and a location filled with references to the definition of girlhood. On further inspection however, you start to notice somewhat darker erotic references, evidently presenting our interpretation of femininity.
Naomi, our model, has a beautifully distinct look which meant she wasn’t lost behind the overwhelming sense of
girliness. She allows us to reference sexuality due to her presence in front of the camera. It was key for us to work with
someone who themselves is empowered by their own confidence of who they are as a woman. Our choice of makeup
also reflects this; hard against soft. The hair; delicate peach against the attitude on her face - all elements that tie in with her strong yet suggestive presence.
Tonight Josephine, we wear pink presents a girl who is sublime, cute, pretty in pink yet powerful and fierce, being presented in a dominant (beautifully neon) light reclaiming her power through a girly aesthetic and feminine persona.

Rose above all As a photographer, whether it is for campaigns or editorials, I have folders and folders of shoot ideas that are just waiting to come to life. For the past year, I have had this concept to shoot with pastel colored paint and flowers. In my mind, it was a light and dreamy shoot with a rose-gold
colored tint. I wanted a girl with really light hair who also had strong European features. When I came across Madison on Next Model’s website, I immediately knew she was the perfect girl for the shoot! In preparation for the shoot, I painted a canvas backdrop with light pink, gray and brown colors. I love to make my own backdrops for shoots because it adds to my personal style as a photographer and it is a change from the typical solid backdrop. After I finished the backdrop and was able to see the colors more clearly, I matched the roses and paint to the backdrop. I also got purple and light pink paint, but decided to use the pink paint, as it looked best in the photos. Since I found the perfect model, I also wanted to find the perfect team for the shoot. I decided to ask Ruslan Nureev and Carly Fisher for hair and makeup and it couldn’t have been a better combination. They nailed my vision while bringing their own personal style to the shoot. We shot in downtown Los Angeles in a brightly lit studio to catch all of the colors in the image. There wasn’t any styling because I wanted to really focus on the makeup and hair, and

since there were flowers in the shot, I thought jewelry and clothing would have been too much. To add movement in the images, I made the paint drip off the flowers and used a fan to blow around Madison’s hair. Ruslan and Carly are both incredibly talented artists and made my job really easy. After I showed them the mood board, I left it pretty open for them to decide what to

do with hair and makeup. I felt that if I gave them too much direction, they couldn’t be as creative as they would like. Typically for editorials, I have a favorite photo or two, but for this one, I absolutely loved each and every photo. Deciding which images to use was very difficult because the team did a phenomenal job throughout.

This project came to life very suddenly-inspiration just came to me as I had a fleeting image in my mind. The protagonist of our project is the color. We wanted to show the mood through color, how it could be mercurial and playful; we wanted to play with nuances, half-tones, and overtones. A great help for me in fulfilling this goal was duochrome cosmetics – pigments and highlighters that allowed for creating unusual color combinations and incredible glow that caught the eye. For me as a makeup artist, the main task was to not overdo it with the makeup. I needed to make the face look as natural as possible, while still involving unusual colors in my work. The designer created a special headwear alluding to a fairy-tale-- the feeling of an unreal fantasy, of being in between. The result was a kind of mix of medieval motives with fabulous elements. I have been working a lot with models in our city, and from the very beginning I saw only this girl being the heroine of the “The Fantasy of Light” photo project. Her unique face and glance won’t leave anyone indifferent, and how I wish you could hear her angelic voice! The model blended into the project in a very harmonious way and did a wonderful job in conveying the magical atmosphere of everything that was captured by the camera.

with dark strong colors
such as royal blue and army green?

B COLOR HAS BECOME SO PERSONIFIED THAT WE BECOME LOST IN THE MULTITUDE OF SHADES, PROJECTING PRECONCEIVED NOTIONS OF INDIVIDUALITY BASED ON WHAT HUES FIRST MEET OUR EYE. BUT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE BREAK FREE FROM THESE UNWARRANTED STEREOTYPES?
COLORS OF ANGELINE IS AN EXAMINATION OF COLOR, PERCEPTION AND EMOTION. BY USING BOLDER TONES OF COLORS TYPICALLY THOUGHT OF AS FEMININE, WE ARE ABLE TO SEE FEMALE CHARACTERISTICS IN A NEW LIGHT. PASTELS ARE AFTER FEATURED ON WOMEN WHOSE EXPRESSIONS ARE SMILEY, GLOSSY, AND EVEN WHIMSICAL. THIS IS BEAUTIFUL FOR MANY REASONS AND WE APPRECIATE THIS INTERPRETATION.
