Welcome 5 As President I would like to welcome you to Crewe Golf Club and hope that the pride that all of us here share for our club is reflected in this publication.
Crewe Golf Club is a forward-looking yet traditional club with over a hundred years of history. It is set in the beautiful Cheshire countryside and although it sits in 150 acres of parkland it is not overlooked by any other property or road. Our course is enjoyed by golfers of all levels of ability and cared for by a dedicated team of green keepers.
As a private members’ club we are able to shape our own development regarding investment in our course, meaning that members and visitors are able to play on a challenging and well presented course, before seeking some well-earned refreshment in our clubhouse afterwards. We frequently host county events and are always proud of the comments we receive from our guests regarding the quality of our course, catering and warmth of welcome.

Welcome CONTINUED 7 In addition to our golfing activities we host a variety of functions for members and visitors and encourage non members to take a look at what we have to offer when they are arranging their weddings, parties, meetings etc. One thing is certain. You will enjoy our food and hospitality, whether it is in our Main Lounge or sitting out on the patio overlooking the 18th.

History 8 Our Club’s origins can be traced back to November 1910 when a group of people, of whom Dr. E. C. Bailey was elected chairman, met at the Euston Coffee Tavern in Earle Street, Crewe to discuss a proposition that a golf club should be formed. A Provisional Committee was set up to hunt around the vicinity for a suitable site.
The proposition was:
- Bunkers to be allowed provided they did not interfere with cattle grazing - A Club House and tool sheds to be allowed. Also grazing rights for one horse, but No dogs and no play on Sundays.
- Rent - £4perannum - Fairways to be mown 60 yards wide beginning 100 yards from the tees - Greens to be made and fenced - not more than 25 sq. yards in area
In January 1911, a General Meeting was called and the proposal was accepted on the basis of a 14 years lease. A Founder Committee with Mr. R. Baxter Booth as its Chairman was elected.
By December 1910, Bailey and his committee had examined a number of possibilities, the most suitable being at Mr. Booth’s Fields Farm, Haslington.

About The Course 11 One of the most attractive elements of the Golf Course is that, although Haslington is close by and Crewe itself only some two miles distant, there are open vistas in every direction, with scarcely a building to be seen. The course is 18 holes occupying some 150 acres of rolling Cheshire countryside. From the men’s white tees it measures 6484 yards with a par and standard scratch of 71, consisting of 2 par 5s, 3 par 3s and 13 par 4s.
Each hole has its individual characteristics. The fairways are for the most part generous, but in some instances tight and tree-lined with tall oaks often providing a difficult obstacle for the wayward drive. A number of holes are strategically designed to provide a testing second shot over or round a pond. The greens are well bunkered, some are particularly narrow and should not be missed on the wrong side.
A “halfway house� by the 11th tee is used to provide light refreshments on selected competition days and weekends.
Course Tour 12 1st Par 4 A not so gentle opening hole. More room to the right of the oak tree than you think off the tee. The green is well guarded by a front pond, left hand bunker and a fall off to the right and rear.
2nd Par 4/5 A strong par 4 (5 for ladies) that plays longer than its yardage as it gently goes uphill. Another well protected green featuring three bunkers.
3rd Par 4 A slight dog leg from right to left. A blind shot to the green is a feature here as it is situated at the lowest point of the course with an out of bounds stream to contend with.
Course Tour 13 4th Par 4 An uphill hole with a bank to hopefully carry off the tee. Quite a tight drive and when you reach the green you will find that it slopes down from back to front.
5th Par 3 A pretty par 3 well guarded by bunkers and beware of all the trouble at the rear of the green.
6th Par 4 Again, an uphill hole with a considerable bank to carry from the tee. Once on the top you have a flat shot in to the green, as you see it.
Course Tour CONTINUED 14 7th Par 4 Bigger hitters do not require a driver here with a valley featuring at around 200 yds. At some stage you will require a well struck shot to carry to the green on the other side.
8th Par 3 Generally regarded as the signature hole the 8th is another lovely par 3. The green is on a plateau so requires a shot with plenty of carry on it.
9th Par 4 The last of the uphill tee shots and certainly a strong finish to the nine. A hole that again plays longer than its yardage, doglegging to the left as it finishes with another elevated shot.
Course Tour CONTINUED 15 10th Par 4 As you see it with a ditch running up the right-hand side until you are about 150 yds. from the green. There is a pond just off the right-hand side of the green. A welcome sight is the “Halfway House� appearing on the 11th tee.
11th Par 4 A slight dog leg from left to right with the mens tee shot crossing a pond. This time the ditch is down the right of the hole starting at 200 yds. from the tee.
12th Par 4 Our shortest par 4 but beware! Anything left off the tee usually means a blocked off second shot and a struggle for a par.

We issue insurance certificates and provide a professional, reliable and clean service to all our clients. You need to have your chimney swept to detect any blockages or smoke leaks. Inadequate ventilation, insufficient draw, down-draught and tar build-up can all be unpleasant, but more importantly, they can also be dangerous due to carbon monoxide poisoning. A clean chimney is also an efficient chimney. The fuel burns better and therefore keeps the room warmer, saving you money too. Regular sweeping is vital to remove blockages and soot, preventing fires and allowing deadly combustion gases to be safely vented through the chimney. Clean chimneys burn more efficiently, which will save you money, as well as helping to preserve the environment.

Course Tour CONTINUED 17 13th Par 5 The first of the par 5’s for the men. A gentle sweep to the hole from left to right with a pond strongly protecting the righthand side. Once you have reached the green you will find it is on two levels.
14th Par 3 The last of the par 3’s where the green needs to be carried unless you are extremely accurate and can thread your shot between the three greenside bunkers.
15th Par 4 A lovely par 4 with two ponds being the strong features of the hole. Again, unless you can run your shot through the gap you will need to carry the water to the green. No driver required here for longer hitters.

Course Tour CONTINUED 19 16th Par 5 The second of the par 5’s on this nine which gently turns from right to left. This hole certainly plays its length. The green comes into view when the fairway drops down a level and all becomes apparent.
17th Par 4 A nice dog leg left to right, well protected from the tee with two fairway bunkers. The green is revealed when you reach the corner of the dog leg.
18th Par 4/5 A strong finishing hole. The tee shot needs to be straight with trees down the left and a hawthorn bush on the righthand side. Also, the green is particularly well guarded with two huge greenside bunkers.

The Pro Shop 25 Dave Wheeler is now well established in his second spell as the Professional at Crewe Golf Club. Dave has played on both the European Tour and the European Seniors Tour. He has held the Cheshire PGA Matchplay Championship on two occasions as well as numerous victories in Pro-Ams both in this country and abroad. The most notable being the Lisbon National Pro-Am at Penha Longa in Portugal, where
David started with seven straight birdies for a final round of 9 under par. At various stages David has held course records at Lymm, Congleton, Bull Bay, Bradley Park, Penha Longa, Crewe, Bramhall, Heyrose and Swinton Park. In 1997 he was extremely proud to be the Captain of the North Region PGA. The shop is extremely well stocked and all leading brands of equipment can be sourced at competitive prices.

Society Packages are normally restricted to Tuesdays, but please check with our professional if an alternative day could be available. Depending upon numbers, discounts are available during the main golfing season of April through September. However, there is a special Winter Package available from October to March.

Clubhouse 33 Crewe’s clubhouse offers superb facilities for members, guests and visitors. The main lounge area is bright and airy overlooking the 18th green. Alternatively, there is the Golfers’ Lounge where you can catch up with the latest news and sport on Sky TV.
