Juniors

The junior section here at Heworth is a vibrant, fun and social section with members of all ages and abilities. There is very much a family feel and everyone involved is both supportive and encouraging.

Joining Heworth Golf Club as a junior is both affordable and accessible. Primary school-aged juniors can join for only £15 and secondary schoolaged children for just £50.

Junior coaching –

The academy coaching programme under the leadership of Bryan Ross has been running since 2014. Bryan is a fully qualified and well-respected golf coach, with a passion for growing the game at grassroots level.

Our junior sessions are very well established and attended, with many young golfers of mixed abilities coming along on a regular basis to take part in a range of fun and engaging golf activities. Children of all abilities are welcome and interested parents or juniors should contact Bryan directly for more information on our junior section and coaching.

During the summer months coaching takes place across the golf club’s various practice facilities, and in the winter we organise social practice sessions which takes place at a local driving range on a subsidised basis.

The Junior Section is led by a junior committee and has a named club welfare officer. The club also has the England Golf SafeGolf accreditation highlighting its commitment to the safety and welfare of children and young people as well as vulnerable adults at risk. We love our junior section here at Heworth, encouraging a younger generation to take up and love the great game. We always make new juniors welcome and hope to see you enjoying all that the club has to offer very soon.

Since 2014 Heworth Golf Club has been running a Junior Coaching Programme in an effort to grow the junior section and create a fun learning environment for all involved. The academy programme has gone from strength to strength with Monday and Wednesday evening coaching sessions attracting over 20 junior golfers each week over the summer.

This year the junior section has some exciting plans, including hosting junior open competitions, junior section away days and several opportunities for parents and carers to play alongside the kids.

JUNIORS

Heworth Golf Club are both committed and invested in its juniors and continue to support junior golf in a bid to grow the game and develop young golfing talent via the Heworth Coaching Programme.

We hope to expand our offer for juniors even further by offering yet more evening sessions, and coaching camps throughout the school holiday periods, including half term and the summer holidays.

Longer term the junior section and coaching academy will provide a seamless development pathway for young golfers to mature and grow into adult golfers. The club will continue to offer its full support and provide advice for both players and parents to ensure that everyone enjoys the game with access to all the support they need to develop golfing skills for life.

Primary School Golf –

Bryan has been delivering golf sessions to some of our local primary schools who have introduced golf as part of their PE lessons. In addition, after school golf lessons and after school clubs have also been taken up by schools and are working well.
