Regular skin checking will help you get to know your skin and catch anything early, making it easier to treat. Type of skin cancer: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) & squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) These are the most common forms of skin cancer, which arise within the top layer of the skin, appearing anywhere, but mostly on sun exposed sites. BCC: usually slow growing, a pinkish bump that can bleed and scab. SCC: usually quick growing, a thickened scaly, or red ulcerated bump that can be painful and bleed.
Melanoma This is less common, but much more dangerous. If left, the cells can grow deeper into the skin and travel to different areas of the body.

How to perform a skin check: Once a month, examine your skin in a well-lit area, noting all moles, marks and spots, charting the location, appearance, and dimensions of each. Taking pictures can be helpful, as can the help of ‘another’ for those ‘hardto-see’ places: 1.
Start with your front, back, left and right sides.
2. Bend elbows and check forearms, back of upper arms and palms. 3. Check backs of legs, feet, spaces between toes, soles of feet, and nails. 4. Examine back of neck, part hair to check scalp using a mirror or torch. 5. Carefully check your back and buttocks. If you spot anything new and/or changing, whether coloured or not, bleeding, crusty or itchy, contact your GP IMMEDIATELY.

owley Hall is within minutes of the M62 and M1 on the outskirts of Leeds - it’s the ideal golf course in a perfect location for golf societies and visiting parties. There is always a warm welcome at Howley Hall. More than a great golf course, with probably the best four finishing holes in Yorkshire, it is the perfect venue for all occasions. The club’s function rooms can be hired for a wide variety of events including business meetings, seminars, special events, celebrations and wedding receptions.
Founded in 1900, with course improvements advised on by Dr Alister Mackenzie in 1913, Howley Hall is now the home of the PGA Yorkshire Open Championship and is considered one of the finest championship courses in Yorkshire.
Howley Hall Golf Club is an England Golf GolfMark and Sport England ClubMark Accredited facility. The club is also a Golf Foundation HSBC GrassRoots Centre.

Course Tour Hole 1 - A short tricky opening par 4, playing away from the clubhouse. Wide tree-lined fairway once you pass the large tree on the left that pushes shots out right. Bunkers left and right come into play with well-struck drives. A short yet tricky second shot awaits. There is a concealed ditch in front of the green. The green is well guarded by bunkers left and right and you definitely do not want to go long into the back bunker. Hole 2 - A short par 4, back to the clubhouse. Accurate positioning of the drive is essential to a fairway that slopes from left to right. There are fairway bunkers left and right, both within driving distance. The second shot is played to a green well-guarded by two deep bunkers 8 | Howley Hall Golf Club
which serve to hide the sunken green. Any shot through the back of the green will end up in rough grassy mounds. There is out of bounds to the right side of the green. Hole 3 - Longish par 4 from back tee to fairway shared with the 6th. The green is elevated, and many golfers leave their shots to the green down on the lower level of this steeply-banked “Mackenzie” style green. Hole 4 - A good par 3, with out of bounds all the way to the right – prevailing winds tend to blow towards the road. A long, narrow green protected by bunkers left and right presents a difficult target, even at only 169 yards.
Hole 5 - Straight par 4, but two very good shots needed to find the green. Out of bounds all down the right is a distraction, on both drive and second shot. The green is large and long when the pin is on the back, it is important to allow for the ‘Mackenzie’ rise. Hole 6 - A testing drive to find the fairway on this par 5 - a slice is seriously punished, finishing down in the railway cutting. In favourable conditions, good strikers will reach the green in two. The green is well guarded, with an awkward bunker to the right just over the road and three bunkers, one short right, another short left and a tricky one at the back of the green. Too much club could find the ditch or OOB running up the left of the hole between road and green.
Hole 7 - A very demanding par 4 – though only 420 yards, it plays longer than its yardage. You need to position your drive well, avoiding the bunker on the right, to attack the long, narrow green. The ditch and the farmer’s field on the left are a constant danger, especially near the wellbunkered green. Hole 8 - A dangerous par 3 from the back tee which sits at an angle to the green. This hole presents particular problems when the wind blows across the hole. Good strikers will fly the corner of the bunker front left, but anything with cut spin will be swallowed up into the bunkers to the right of the green or the ditch immediately in front of the green.
Hole 9 - Par 4, dog leg left. A good drive needs to be a long draw to finish round the corner. The other option is to hit a lay up shot short of the bunkers and mounds on the left side of the dog leg. Either way leaves a straight shot into a green that slopes away from you. It’s a tricky well bunkered green that has many subtle undulations – probably the hardest green to read on the course. Hole 10 - A straight par 4 – two good shots needed when playing into prevailing wind. Driveable fairway bunkers left and right must be avoided to leave a second shot into a well-guarded green that once again slopes away from the player; it demands careful thought of the length of

Course Tour Hole 11 - Open your shoulders on this 403 yard par 4 for this inviting drive to a wide, flat tree lined fairway. There is a bunker to the left some 270 yards from the back tee to miss to have any realistic chance of hitting the green in regulation. Your shot to the green needs careful judgement to avoid the bunkers, mounds and hollows that surround the ‘Mackenzie’ type green.

Hole 12 - At 375 yards, a reasonably short par 4, dog leg right. Position is important here rather than length for the drive. The trees on the right force you to play towards the pond. Those long enough can take on the dog leg to shorten the hole. The second shot is played into a green guarded by a bunker short right and bunkers to the left and right of the putting surface. Hole 13 - Four well positioned fairway bunkers, two left and two right, make a tight drive on this Par 5. Most players then play for position to the corner of the dog leg although this lay up shot needs careful thought to avoid the ditch that crosses the fairway. A well positioned lay up shot provides a straightforward shot
to another ‘Mackenzie’ green guarded by bunkers on the left and right. Hole 14 - Par 3 in the trees. Cross bunkers in front of the green, bunkers to each side, make accuracy a premium. A lovely hole both to look at and to play. Hole 15 - Start of the Last four Hole Challenge. Stroke index 1, with good reason. Three well positioned fairway bunkers, two left and one to the right, make accuracy from the tee a must. A long raking draw is the shot to play if you want to give yourself a chance to get to the green in regulation. Only the better players will find the well guarded green on this par 4, 461 yard hole in two.

Course Tour Hole 16 - One of the most picturesque and interesting holes on the course. Panoramic views from an exposed tee on this par 5, a blind second into the once terrace gardens of the old Hall, a tight third with the green guarded by a large well-positioned bunker short right of the ditch and a deep bunker right of the green lurking just over the ditch. The deep ditch to the front follows the contour of the green.

Hole 17 - Skirting the ruins, a wellpositioned drive, avoiding the bunker right on the elbow is needed on this dog leg left to the well guarded flat green (the old bowling green). Bunkers left and right leave a narrow opening to the green. A good par 4.
Hole 18 - At 197 yards, it’s a testing finishing shot to find the green on this par 3. There’s bunker trouble front, left and right to avoid, and out of bounds back left – the chance to ruin a good scorecard. The green is large, but players will find some awkward putts across or down the green. A hole to remember especially if a three is carded!

Practice Facilities
C
lub members and visitors can enjoy the use of extensive practice facilities.
The main practice ground can handle drivers through to wedges. There is also a large chipping area and a green flanked by a bunker and grassy mounds.
Adjacent to the clubhouse is an excellent practice putting green as well as a smaller practice ground suitable for hitting short irons. Members and visitors do need to bring their own practice balls.

t Howley Hall Golf Club everyone and anyone is welcome to play our 18-hole golf course, the course provides a good test as well as a lovely environment for golf, we still ask that the etiquette, rules & regulations are met for all our visitors.
Green fees vary depending on the season, week & day that you are playing. The course format allows for single balls all the way up to four balls without any restrictions. If you are short on equipment then don’t worry, we can hire out everything you need including; clubs, bags, electric trolleys and pull trolleys all available from our fully stocked Pro Shop.
