est Middlesex Golf Club has long been recognised as one of the finest golfing venues in West London. The club was established in 1891 and in 1910 the legendary five times Open Champion James Braid re-designed the golf course.
woodlands complimented by free draining soil and superb greens all year round, great shot making is the key and if you can manage that you will be well rewarded. The golf club is one of the closest clubs to Central London.
Braid’s legacy is an outstanding parkland course, where the natural terrain has been used to enhance the “strategic golf experience”. The course showcases classic Braid features with an abundance of natural

A midweek singles competition is held every Thursday throughout the year and most weekends there is a competition of some sort. During the summer months it is generally a singles ‘big’ competition and during the winter months it tends to be a pairs fun event to keep the winter blues away.
W
est Middlesex Golf Club is the oldest course in Middlesex having first opened in 1891, in fact that layout has not changed much in the intervening 127 years. In 1904 the Tooting Bec Cup was played here at West Middlesex; the Tournament was unique for that period in that some of the professionals were given handicaps.
Jack McLaren was given 3 shots and over the two rounds it was enough to tie him with James Braid on 147. An 18-hole play-off followed and McLaren still with his handicap of three was tied coming to the last but the pressure finally got to the young pro, he topped his drive into the pit and lost the ball and Braid drove the green and two putted for the title. The PGA never repeated the experiment of allowing handicaps in a major tournament.

Then in November 1910 the distinguished golfer and current Open Champion James Braid, having recently lifted his fifth Claret Jug was asked to survey the course and suggest improvements. Braid’s recommendations were implemented during the winter of 1910, adding over 500 yards in length, the construction of 16 new bunkers, changing the order of holes and using the pond which he declared to be ‘a magnificent water hazard’ to create a short hole over the water which became the ninth hole (now the eleventh).
To celebrate the completion of the new course a competition was held on May 24th 1911 between James Braid, J. H. Taylor and Harry Vardon - the ‘Great Triumvirate’ (16 Open titles won between them), they were joined by the club professional C. Ralph Smith. The extended and enhanced course was declared to be a thoroughly interesting and most searching test of golf. C. Ralph Smith had represented Scotland in the early 1900’s, other members of that same team were James Braid, George Duncan and Ben Sayers.
Two Club House Fires; the first in September 1929 completely destroyed the clubhouse, this resulted in a temporary building being erected the following year. The temporary structure survived until it was destroyed in another fire in 1977, luckily a brand-new clubhouse had been erected months previously so the damage and loss of property was not as severe as the first fire. With the new positioning of the clubhouse in 1977 the order of holes changed slightly, with the tricky par 5 17th becoming the 1st hole, the long carry on the old par 3 18th now became the 2nd hole, this meant a tough last hole was the old 400 yard 16th dog leg.
We have boasted the winner of the Middlesex County Championship a total of 13 times with the most recent honour of winning it in three consecutive years; 2013/14/15. In recent years the club has progressed along nicely with a booming and friendly membership and in early 2017 a new Club Professional, Course Manager and Club Secretary were installed with a vision to push the club through to the next generation of golfers.
Hole 1
1st - 480yds - Par five to start, dog-leg left, it is possible to reach the green in two for the longer hitters but will require an accurate second avoiding all the trouble. For most golfers the hole suits a drive to right centre of the fairway to open up the hole for a regulation par. 2nd - 196yds - A very difficult par three, it is essential that you carry the ball over the pit, don’t under club, a bail out shot right normally finds a tricky bunker.
3rd - 298yds - Short par four requires a tee shot (with an iron) left of centre, taking the big tree out of play.
5th - 166yds - Shortest hole on the course. Clubbing here is important. Two tier green, so check where the flag is.
4th - 347yds - Par four; Pretty much as you see it. Keep your drive just left of centre of the fairway as there is a fairway bunker down the right-hand side which is hidden from the tee.
6th - 529yds - Long par five. Try to keep to the left-hand side of the fairway after two, this opens up a nice approach to the green, this is the longest hole on the course.

Hole 10
7th - 206yds - This par three is a beautiful hole where the green is set in a dell surrounded by trees with an extremely narrow entrance. Club selection is important to secure a par.
9th - 385yds -Tricky par four. There are two trees in the middle of the fairway 120 yards short of the green, which can cause problems with no bail out to the left, the green is very secluded and tricky to putt on.
11th - 156yds - A very picturesque par three over the pond. The pond is fairly close to the green and many a ball reaches a watery grave, to make things even more difficult the green has a big slope from back to front.
8th - 454yds - Long par four requiring a good drive to the left of centre of the fairway, opening up the green, most golfers will struggle to get up in two without the wind or any run on the ball.
10th - 219yds - Long par three. Land slopes off to the left, so an accurate shot to the right-hand side of the green is required, although too far right and the ball will disappear into the trees.
12th - 347yds - A shortish dog-leg left par four requires an accurate tee shot avoiding the belt of trees on the left, this will leave you with a mid-iron approach to a long green.
13th - 457yds - Par four stroke index 1, a fantastic golf hole. Requires a fade from the left of the big tree and pump house or a draw starting it to the right of the big tree and pump house, all will be revealed when you stand on the tee, good luck! 14th - 175yds - The last par three on the course, it is well bunkered and an accurate shot will gain just reward.
15th - 424yds - This is a fine two shot dog leg right par four to a heavily bunkered green. If the tee shot is played well to the left it opens the green and the second becomes considerably easier. 16th - 339yds - A short par four that is trickier than it looks with a sloping green. The drive should be left of centre to make an easier uphill approach to the green with a considerable slope from right to left.

17th - 512yds - A double dog-leg par five, keep it left off the drive and right for your second, this avoids the River Brent on the left. For the longer hitter it can be played as a long straight hole, although the second shot is fraught with danger. 18th - 401yds – A fine par four finishing hole, a long tee shot is required to obtain sight of the green, past the line of trees, hedge and ditch which runs along the lefthand side of the fairway. The green is well placed on a plateau and guarded by very well-placed bunkers.

e have a sizeable Junior Section with specially designed learning programmes run by our dedicated Junior Academy Professional. Through our Junior Academy Programme, we offer an innovative, exciting and FUN approach to Junior Golf Coaching. We have golf coaching programme for all children between the ages of 4 – 17.
Our programmes run every Saturday and Sunday throughout the year and during school holidays special mid-week activities are held. No matter the age or experience of your child we are able to offer a comprehensive Junior Academy Programme which is right for them. e have three dedicated practice areas, one by the 15th tee which has 50, 100 and 150-yard markers. To the left-hand side of the area is a 120-yard par three with a green and bunkers, if you aim right the area extends to 200 yards so most clubs can be used.
There is also an area to the left of the 16th fairway this is 120 yards in length so just the shorter clubs to be hit. The short game practice area is alongside the 1st fairway, this is just 60 yards long, again with a putting green and bunker to fine tune those pitching/chipping skills.

By the 1st tee we have an excellent putting green which mirrors exactly the surface and speed of the greens out on the course. Also, three nets, for loosening up or for a quick practice before you venture out onto the course.

t West Middlesex Golf Club everyone and anyone is welcome to play our 18-hole golf course, the parkland golf course provides a good test as well as a lovely environment for golf, we still ask that the etiquette, rules & regulations are met for all our visitors.
Green Fees vary depending on the season, week & day that you are playing. The course format allows for single balls all the way up to four balls without any restrictions.
