The woodburning stove… perfected

Welcome to Summer INSIDE This summer Ludlow Assembly Rooms reaches 21 years of age; 21 years of bringing you topquality films most nights of the week, a regular and vibrant programme of amazing live shows and lectures, as well as hosting regular classes in everything from art lessons to Zumba. To mark this milestone we plan to produce a birthday supplement later this year to help you remember all that we have achieved over the last two decades and to encourage even more of you to become Friends so that we can be here for you for the next 21 years. Another landmark event this summer is the Secret Gardens of Ludlow’s silver anniversary. This much-loved annual event was conceived back in 1989 by our dedicated team of volunteers, the Ludlow Assembly Rooms Fundraising Committee, to raise funds for what was then just a gleam in the eye. This great day out has gone from strength to strength: from 200 visitors back then to around 1,500 in recent years. All of the funds come directly to us, so let’s see if we can hit the 2,000 mark this year and make its 25 Years in Bloom a year to remember. Please remember to book early for our live streamings this summer, as the earlier we know shows will sell out, the more likely it is we will be able to show them again… and don’t forget that our Box Office is now open from 10am until 8pm Monday to Friday, making it even easier to get your tickets. You will notice that we are promoting and selling the tickets for the new St Laurence’s MiniFest and the Ludlow Fringe this year – the first steps in working in arts partnerships to help us all make better use of scarce resources and share those we do have to continue to bring a dynamic and vibrant arts scene to Ludlow.

A Small Family Business by Alan Ayckbourn This Ayckbourn classic, a riotous exposure of entrepreneurial greed, returns to the National where it premiered in 1987. Moments after taking over his father-inlaw’s business he’s approached by a private detective armed with some compromising information. Jack’s integrity fades as he discovers his extended family to be thieves and adulterers, looting the family business. Rampant self-interest takes over and comic hysteria builds to a macabre climax.
