NEW YORK New York is located in the northeastern United States, in southeastern New York State and approximately halfway between Washington, DC and Boston. Its location at the mouth of the Hudson River, which forms a naturally protected port and flows into the Atlantic Ocean, has helped the growth of the city and its importance as a commercial city. Most of New York is built on three islands: Manhattan, Staten Island and Long Island, making the building land is scarce and thus generating a high density of population.
NEW YORK The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the French to the Americans in 1886 to commemorate the centennial of the Declaration of Independence of the United States and as a sign of friendship between the two nations. It was inaugurated on 28 October 1886 in presence of President of the time, Grover Cleveland. The statue is the work of French sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and the internal structure was designed by engineer Gustave Eiffel.
