Anthony Scoon, director at Ginger Root Print, said: “B&M have done a fantastic job, they listened to what we wanted but also made suggestions and we are so happy with the end result. We are also thrilled to have four out of the five offices already occupied, a testament to the quality of the refurbishment.

Staff Breakout Rooms,

University of Nottingham - Coates Client - University of Nottingham Various staff areas throughout the Engineering faculty at the University Park Campus. Brief - Fun socialising space To transform the dated coffee rooms into sociable spaces that would incentive the staff to enjoy their breaks away from the work environment. Concept - Creating identity By using the University's blue logo as a starting point, each room was given slightly different shades of fabrics, and it's own unique feature wall vinyl. This would then create an identifiable feature, whilst still keeping them all within the faculty branding.

Aerospace Lab,

University of Nottingham - L2 Client - University of Nottingham Main lab space for the aerospace department from the Faculty of Engineering. Brief - Unique, "wow factor" To create a stunning new space for the aerospace students, and set the benchmark for upcoming developments within the faculty. Concept - Inspiration and Motivation The aspirational A380 plane was used as a template to create a feature wall made up of motivational phrases and wording the students could relate to. To break up the large space, blocks of colour were used, in keeping with aerospace branding colour schemes. PRESS RELEASE: The £230,000 investment at the University Park campus has seen the 200 square metre study space and adjacent practical laboratory transformed from a dated dark space into a modern fresh facility. The staff members from the faculty of Engineering wanted to create a space which would create a unique atmosphere for the Aerospace department, and create a ‘wow factor’. White, grey and blue was the chosen colour palette, as reference to the majority of aerospace companies that have this colour branding. We used blocks of colour to create strong features and break up the room from looking too white and blue chairs against lighter units worked well. We also opted for a light colour vinyl flooring to keep the room feeling tall and spacious.

Business School Foyer,

University of Nottingham - Jubilee Campus Client - University of Nottingham Multi-functional foyer space in the Business School at Jubilee Campus. Brief - Functional space, bringing in the outdoors With so much natural light flooding the space, the client wanted an airy foyer, whilst creating a functional area for various different users. Concept - Bright, modern and zoned With such a large space, zones were created by using a clever carpet layout which identified individual areas, along with furniture positioning.

PRESS RELEASE: Taking inspiration from the tranquil surroundings of the Jubilee Campus where the School is sited, the University wanted to create a stylish foyer that put students in the right frame of mind for lectures. A defined pathway bisects all of the distinct zones to draw visitors from the building’s doorway to the auditorium. Luiza da Silva, Interior Designer at B+M Installations, the fit-out specialists that led the renovation, explained: “The University wanted to find a way of bringing a more homely, calming feel to the straight lines and muted tones of the space’s business-like interior. We turned to Interface to help us create the perfect flooring scheme for the lobby." "To achieve the University’s goal, we felt it was crucial to tap into the current trend for bringing the kind of artisanal fabrics and materials normally found in the domestic environment into public spaces.”

Learning Pool Office, The Birkin Building - Lace Market

Client - Learning Pool & Spenbeck Working for both the landlord of the listed building, as well as the proposed new tenant, a carefully balanced design proposal was needed here. Brief - Future proofing The client wanted enough space to allow for expanding the team, as well as functional designated areas for different tasks. Concept - History with a twist By keeping as many of the original features as possible, the quirky design would appeal to a range of modern companies in the city centre, as well as showcasing little glimpses of what was once there. The bar, DJ booth, built in seating and split levels were all refurbished to suit the new requirements.

PRESS RELEASE: “It’s fantastic to see a property as eye-catching and historic as The Birkin Building, be brought back into use. The clever use of the space, such as making the drinks bar into the kitchen and retaining the booth seating as a break-out area, gives it a unique feeling which I am sure Learning Pool will enjoy using. It has been pleasure to work with the parties involved and everyone has done a great job bringing this together.” - Sanveer Sandhu, of Shakespeare Martineau, who represented Spenbeck (the Landlords).
