Design meets fashion and philanthropy
BURGHALIE Written by: Angela Willams
Meet Rashaad, the 28-year-old fashion designer out of Thomasville, GA. He is the CEO of a luxury street wear brand whose goal is to unite all individuals through fashion and art regardless of cultural background, race, sex, or ethnicity. “Burghalie is a culture where we believe art is a universal love language, and everyone should be able to come together through art and fashion, says the up-andcoming fashion designer Rashaad. My brand gives space to prevent arguments, conflicts, and killing one another because of how we look and what we wear. When people look at Burghalie my hope is that my brand will unite people to share that same common of interest which is fashion and the Arts. This prompted the young designer to make an extension of the brand bringing about Burghalie Academy. Burghalie Academy is a nonprofit organization that caters to youth ages 11-17 and young adults 18-25, which centers around promoting financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and music arts as a creative outlet ISSUE #7 | 25
for kids and young adults. This is also where Burghalie host most of their fashion competition, art awards etc. Graduating from Florida State University, he began his matriculation as a criminology major but always had a nitch for fashion. He then decided to pursue fashion design wholeheartedly. It was his then roommate and current business partner who inspired him to create what is now called “Burghalie. This fashion designer defines fashion as art in its conceptual, something that evokes a certain emotion within you. “It is an outlet to express yourself.” Pulling inspirations from Alexander McQueen, he takes risk and pushes the boundaries with his brand thinking outside of the box. Taking upholstery leather that you would usually use in a vehicle and creating a bomb vest out of it paired with stacked jeans.
Mr. Burghalie is the epitome of what fashion and philanthropy looks like. He has worked with some of Hollywood’s biggest names such as TI, Nelly, and Jermaine Dupri, hoping to work with Li Nas X in the future. He also worked as the creative directive for some of the hottest names in the industry recently teaming up with Black Wall Street for their Juneteenth project and assisting on designs for New York fashion week etc. This young designer is on the run preparing for the Burghalie resort which is the competition for New York fashion week show in September that everyone should be looking out for. This designer wants everyone to look forward to Burghalie becoming a household staple especially within the black community. Working with some of the biggest names in the industry and impacting over 1 million youth and young adults worldwide.
