This portfolio is composed of my best work within the past year ranging from packaging, print, and branding. I love to design quality pieces and am constantly striving to improve my skills. Thank you for showing an interest in my work and I dearly hope to get to intern with you this summer! Lauren Black
FUTUR A This poster was made in honor of Paul Renner and his typeface Futura. I wanted the piece to reflect the characteristics of the font while giving a nod to the Bauhaus movement. The poster was printed to be 17 in x 22 in and included a summary of the typeface, the numerals 0-9, the alphabet in both uppercase and lowercase, and as well as a quote by Heinz Hiaushofer describing his father-in-law Paul Renner.
American Lung Association:
CAMPAIGN ADS For this anti-smoking campaign I chose to use everyday foods to illustrate what happens to the lungs when a person smokes. The burnt toast displays lungs turning black because of too much soot, the cheese is dried out and has lost its elasticity, and the grapes (almost raisins) depicts the damaged alveoli. This way the viewer is able to associate the tangible objects with the invisible effects of smoking.
BIENE TEA CO. Biene means bee in German and was the perfect symbol for this tea company. With peppy pastels and hidden messages this tea packaging is sure to brighten anyones day. It’s a collection of teas to rejuvenate both mind and body. Each flavor comes with its own hidden message to make the consumer feel special as well as to encourage buying all of the flavor s.
SOUNDSCAPE The SoundScape Composition and Performance exchange is celebrating their ten year anniversary in the Italian Alps. Students and composers attending will be challenged to write classical pieces with a modern twist. Inspired by this challenge I designed this poster to be a mixture of opposites with subtle gradients and strong colors. I also took inspiration from the Alps by using the different levels of a sound bar to give the shape of the mountains.
CAMERA STUDY This series was a self-assigned project to deepen my knowledge and proficiency in Illustrator. I used three different types of cameras to explore shading, shape, and color. I used bright backgrounds to give the predominately black and white images some character and an all-around fun impression.
Concept Design:
URBAN SPROUT
I designed Urban Sprout Gardening for the metro-Gardner who doesn’t have quite enough time in the day. Each biodegradable box is carefully designed according to planting depth and width to ensure proper seed growth. A compartment inside the box is filled with dry plant food so that each seed gets all the nutrients it needs. Just rip the lid along the perforated lining and plant the entire box in the ground keeping 1/4 inch above the soil line to help prevent weeds.
HEAD, HEART, HAND Head, Heart, and Hand was the motto for the AIGA conference this past year and was the inspiration for this poster. I wanted to do something completely different from my usual grid like style and decided to have the poster reflect the Dada movement. Combining seemingly unrelated shapes and clean lines I pushed the idea of Dada with the contemporary. This poster was printed to a wonderfully large 18.5 in x 24 in.
