This driving or biking journey on Rt 9G is highlighted by orchards, farms and fantastic vistas of the Catskill Mountains. Hudson is known for its unique and varied architecture, antique dealers and boutique shops. The “Main Street USA” ambiance of this city harkens a simpler time and way of life. (Note: In Hudson, Rt 9G connects with 3rd Street.) Farther south, you’ll encounter the crown jewel of the Hudson Valley: Frederic Church’s Olana. With the look of a Persian palace, this magnificent mansion overflows with Victorian elegance, fabulous furnishings, and breathtaking paintings by the most famous landscapist of the Hudson River School. Olana is situated four miles south of Hudson atop a huge hill affording some of the Hudson River Valley’s most spectacular scenery. Treat yourself to a guided tour of the villa, or a leisurely picnic or a stroll down Olana’s lovely trails, yielding unforgettable views of the Catskill Mountains. Drink in the elegance of a golden age and the history of a courageous few. At the Clermont State Historic Site (off Rt 9G in Clermont), you’ll tour the grand 500-acre Hudson River estate, former home to seven generations of the distinguished Livingston family—including its patriarch, Robert Livingston. Take in the stately beauty of family heirlooms ... and admire the formal gardens and the lush views of the Hudson as you enjoy a picnic on the grounds along the river.

ur agricultural roots run deep in Columbia County. Family farms have been growing heirloom vegetable strains for generations, and young pioneers open new CSA farms year after year. Stop by our farm stands and markets, where the growers bring their just-picked produce and fine crafted products. Indulge your senses in a taste and leave with the makings of a feast and tips on how to fix it. It’s all here: extraordinary diner fare, ethnic treats that have won national raves and pizza as an art form. Coffee shops where fresh-brewed excellence is served with a side of local insider tips. Fragrant bakeries employing strict European standards. Don’t forget chocolatiers, pub cuisine and mouthwatering steaks. Vegan, casual, or candlelit—name your mood, we’ve got the food—from falafel to molecular gastronomy and everywhere in-between. We’ll quench your thirst with artisanal beverages. Our distilleries, brewery and wineries welcome you to tour, taste and celebrate. Columbia County—where farm-to-table cuisine is just how it’s done.
