__ _ THE FOUNDER FROM Luminox kicked off 2016 by formalizing its long term relationship with the Navy SEALs by becoming their watch licensee. The relationship started over 20 years ago when the SEALs were searching for an analog timepiece to suit their needs and Luminox became part of the SEALs’ Essential Gear. Since then, the watch models made for SEALs and the relationship continued to grow and expand. Having been requested as a watch of choice for two generations of Navy SEALs is an incredible honor. This Fall we will proudly release the newest series made for SEALs -- the Carbon SEAL 3800 Series made with high tech materials and enhancements that add to the rugged durability of the timepiece.
Luminox has become Essential Gear for many professionals, and in this issue we feature stories of our Navy SEALpartnership, the latest on XCOR’s Lynx development, and how Scott Cassell is mentoring the next generation of Undersea Explorers at UVP. illumination system. Without having to push a button or expose the timepiece to a light source, the time is continuously visible for up to 25 years. It’s part of what makes our watches ESSENTIAL GEAR and why the United States Navy SEALs and other professionals world wide have chosen Luminox. Luminox developed the first Navy SEAL series in 1993. The unique combination of stealth and visibility is also why U.S. Air Force F-117 Nighthawk™ pilots requested Luminox watches. Luminox watches have always been essential equipment. If a watch is durable enough for the world’s toughest elite forces, it will stand up to any other rugged outdoor use. Explore this year’s collection of Luminox timepieces and see for yourself.

NAVY SEAL PARTNERSHIP Trusted & Requested by the Navy SEALs
The United States Navy's Sea, Air and Land Teams, commonly known as the Navy SEALs, are the U.S. Navy's primary special operations force and a component of the Naval Special Warfare Command. Among the SEALs' main function is to conduct small-unit maritime military operations that originate from, and return to, a river, ocean, swamp, delta, or coastline. SEALs are trained to operate in all environments (Sea, Air, and Land) for which they are named. The rigors of the SEAL training regime are the stuff of legend. Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training, or BUD/S, is designed to find and develop warriors of the strongest character who give everything they have to accomplish their mission and support those on their team. Luminox started its relationship with the Navy SEAL teams over 20 years ago when the SEALs were searching for an analog timepiece to suit their needs and discovered Luminox with its unique self-powered illumination technology for optimum visibility day and night in any condition. “As a research, development, test, and evaluation officer for the Navy SEALs I was asked to find a dependable watch for night missions. After testing a variety of brands in the most arduous conditions, Luminox was the only one still functioning at the end of the evaluation.” Nick North, Navy SEAL (Retired). The tests were rigorous - “The Luminox watch was heated in an oven to replicate desert temperatures, frozen overnight in a refrigerator freezer, pressed in a water pressure pot below advertised depth capabilities, and given to the SEALs to use during training and operations. Over the last generation (20 years) SEALs have used Luminox watches when analog watches were required and at time digital watches were specified. In 2013 a different group within the SEAL community tested analog watches again. The end result was the same as in 1993, the Luminox watch won again. A Luminox watch will be awarded to SEAL training graduates as a trophy, reward and piece of Essential Gear along with an engraved knife and their SEAL pin at their final graduation.” LCDR Shaun Marriott spearheaded the 2013 project to develop a new series of watches with upgraded features and Luminox collaborated with SEALs, both active duty and retired. This partnership 6
resulted in the A.N.U. (Authorized for Navy Use) series featuring a black PVD-plated stainless steel case, with screw crown and case back, antireflective sapphire crystal, multi-jewel Swiss quartz movement and 8+ year lithium battery. “When the SEALs needed to update the equipment to support our Maritime Operations, we did an exhaustive search to find newer technologies to help ensure mission success and increase our overall capabilities. When so much relies on the accuracy of a time piece we focused in on the essentials; accuracy, reliability and performance,” says Shaun Marriott, Navy SEAL (retired). “We found that the reliability of an analog timepiece with the accuracy of a Swiss movement gave us the capability we sought. Finally the unmatched performance of the Luminox illumination system gave us the sustained superior performance that is expected of every Navy SEAL and what we expect of our gear." Luminox kicked off 2016 by formalizing its long term relationship with the Navy SEALs and becoming their official watch licensee. “It is an absolute honor to have an ongoing relationship with the SEALs, and to be selected by U.S. Navy SEAL Commanders to design and supply watches for some of the most elite and respected Special Forces in the world. It is particularly exciting that two generations of SEALs arrived at the same conclusion and chose Luminox as their watch of choice. Becoming their watch licensee formalizes this enduring relationship,” says Barry Cohen, CoFounder of Luminox. Over the years, Luminox became part of the SEALs’ Essential Gear as both the relationship and the watches continued to grow and expand. Today, Luminox can be sure that every Navy SEAL wearing a Luminox is equipped with a timepiece where unmatched visibility is a given. Luminox is partnering with retired Navy SEALs to coordinate the Special Operations Challenge – the chance for civilians to train like a SEAL for a day. The Special Operations Challenge watches commemorate this enduring relationship with the SEALs. A percentage of the proceeds of the sales of these watches go to the Navy SEAL Foundation supporting the families of fallen SEALs.

ORIGINAL NAVY SEAL 3000 SERIES
-
The Original Luminox Navy SEAL watch first introduced in 1994, is the timepiece that put Luminox on the map. The officer in charge of procurement for the Navy SEALs, Chief Nick North and Luminox worked together to develop a watch specifically for the SEALs. Since then Luminox has never strayed from its mission and this has been confirmed and validated by the many elite military and law enforcement units that have requested Luminox for their use around the world. The man on the street has also shown particular interest in Luminox, figuring rightly that if the watches are designed for and used by elite troops, they have to be able to stand up to every day use. 26 years later, this series is still one of Luminox' best sellers.
SPECIAL WARFARE INSIGNIA
-
There are two Special Warfare insignia issued to Navy personnel serving under Naval Special Warfare Command, a part of the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM): Special Warfare and Special Warfare Combatant-Craft Crewman. The Special Warfare insignia, also known as the “SEAL Trident, is awarded to personnel of the United States Navy who completed the Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training and the SEAL qualification training, and have been designated as Navy SEALs and assigned to Navy SEAL Teams or SEAL Delivery Vehicle (SDV) Teams. The Special Warfare insignia is a coveted piece of military insignia that includes a golden eagle clutching a U.S. Navy anchor, a trident, and a flintlock-style pistol.

Luminox, known for its use of self-powered illumination, is always looking for new materials and new ways to enhance performance. The use of carbon bars has revolutionized case manufacturing for Luminox, making it possible to produce a highly attractive yet incredibly light and durable timepiece. This construction results in a lighter, stiffer and more durable case. The material itself is a very attractive anthracite color, that doesn’t get hot in warm temperatures or cold in cold climates.
Exceedingly comfortable and easy to wear, the new Carbon SEAL is water resistant to 300meters/1,000 feet, enabling the timepiece to withstand incredible pressure on deep dives. The 3800 is engineered with very robust components: an extra thick sapphire crystal and stainless steel case back that ensure its water resistance.

With its refined design, the Luminox F-117 Nighthawk series references the sleek charcoal aerodynamic contours ofthe aircraft, from the diamond–shaped faceted bezel to the angular links of the bracelet. The 44mm case sports a sandblasted finish to lend a matte look reminiscent of the jet’s surface. The Arabic numerals on the dial
and bezel feature a stencil font from the cockpit in an ice blue SuperLuminova for a glow-in-the-dark effect. Along with the LLTs (Luminox Light Technology) in contrasting vivid yellow, the watch has unmatched night visibility in all conditions and a singular stealth aesthetic. The Nighthawk boasts a multi-jewel Swiss Quartz movement with GMT function for dual time zones with anti-reflective sapphire crystal, and comes in two models; the signature solid link bracelet with gun-metal PVDplating(6422) and, for those who prefer a strap, a leather-backed Kevlar band (6421).

INTERVIEW WITH ROB ROY
ROB ROY There is no finish line
Rob was an active member of the SEAL teams for over twenty years, being part of SEAL team Six, and the anti-terrorism and maritime interdiction teams. He is currently the instructor for the Luminox Special Operations Challenge events. I had the chance to interview Rob and find out more about his views on success, teamwork, and the ability to push your limits to the edge, always striving to be better. What are three key learnings of a Navy SEAL training? The Basic Underwater Demolition/ SEAL Training develops the candidates’ mental and physical stamina and skills. Each BUD/S phase includes timed physical condition tests, with the time requirements becoming more demanding each week. The program is designed to develop and test the candidates’ stamina, leadership, and ability to work as a team. How do you define success? How do I define success? Or better yet, how is success measured? Can anyone adapt and overcome challenges to be better? This is how I get participants to meet the challenge of the day: I incorporate “The Warrior’s Mindset,” that provides the foundation and framework for peak performance. Each participant will receive the tools and life lessons necessary not only to make it through the day, but also to excel! Their nature will be to lead when others run, to challenge those that challenge them, to stand as victorious, and not act as a victim! Identifying technical and training elements within the scope of their athletic ability is one side of the coin. Equally, if not more important, is powering their minds to be highly tuned - so that they can interpret various elements during the chaos. My goal is to help them develop the ability to utilize and leverage their strengths while minimizing the weaknesses, within their team or organization. 20
This type of training is instrumental and has served The U.S Navy SEALs to hone impetus action instead of reaction, thinking outside-of-the-box (not being boxed-in), and thereby, anticipating

What is your training style? My motto is “Train Hard, Train Smart”. During the trainings, participants need to meet the standards. I train the way I fight…On Time, On Target, Every Time! We win no matter the adversity. I’ve listed 6-Qualities that we will hone: 1. Physical Ability 4. Adaptability 2. Humility 5. Team Ability 3. Creativity 6. Resiliency
ROB ROY
Can you give any recommendation to the participants for the day of the training? There is no finish line: This is probably the most important phrase that the participants need to remember for making consistent progress. Our bodies are very smart and naturally accommodate to stress. Your body will add as little muscle as necessary to get the job done. So those that attend don’t need to worry: they will only be able to do that, that they can do.

LUMINOX SPECIAL OPERATIONS CHALLENGE Navy SEAL for a day!
Navy SEAL for a day? Luminox makes this lifetime experience possible thanks to the “Special Operations Challenge”, a 1-day training where different teams compete in SEA, AIR and LAND. Trained by ex-Navy SEALs, participants will have the chance to test the long-lasting and reliable Luminox Special Operations Challenge watches as part of their Essential Gear during these demanding exercises. Luminox started its relationship with the Navy SEAL teams over 20 years ago when SEALs first discovered the unique self-powered illumination technology found in Luminox watches. Luminox has continuously updated its line of watches to meet the demanding needs of the Navy SEALs and other elite forces around the world. In 2013 Luminox had the opportunity to refine one of its watches to specifically address the needs of maritime commandos. In direct collaboration with active and ex-Navy SEALs, the A.N.U. (Authorized for Navy Use) series was created. Its toughness and usefulness makes this line of watches “first line gear” for those working under extreme conditions. Tough, powerful and accurate, Swiss-made Luminox is the ultimate night vision gear, equipped with the original self- powered illumination system, the Luminox Light Technology. The Luminox Special Operations Challenge (L.S.O.C.) goes back to our brand DNA and positioning as “durable, dependable adventure gear”. Luminox is working with ex- Navy SEALs, who will share some of the experiences they had during their service in the Navy’s Sea, Air and Land Forces. Once in a lifetime experience Luminox offers the opportunity to train like a real Navy SEAL for a day. Throughout the Luminox Special Operations Challenge events, participants take part in exercises performed in different scenarios: SEA, AIR and LAND. The exercises are inspired in the training preparation that allows the Navy SEALs to be one of the elite Special Forces groups in the U.S.
Teamwork is crucial to overcome obstacles and be successful. Teams are challenged not only physically but also mentally, and Teamwork, Leadership, Confidence and Communication play a fundamental role in the Luminox Special Operations Challenge (L.S.O.C.) events. After many years of experience developing and optimizing resistant watches, Luminox has gone a step further to create the Luminox Special Operations Challenge (L.S.O.C.) collection. Luminox collaborated with former Navy SEALs to develop this series. The Luminox Special Operations Challenge (L.S.O.C.) events will be carried out by Rob Roy. Rob is a 25-year veteran of the US Navy. For 20 years he was an active member of the SEAL teams, being part of SEAL team Six, and the antiterrorism and maritime interdiction teams. In 2005 he founded the company SOT-G (Special Operations Training Group), and has worked as a motivational speaker and coach. «The only easy day was yesterday!», is the unofficial slogan of the Navy SEALs, and it summarizes well this once in a lifetime experience, where excellence is expected and every day brings new challenges to overcome. Essential Gear The Special Operations Challenge watches commemorate the relationship between Luminox and the Navy SEALs. Water resistant to 200 metres and “Swiss Made”, the Luminox Special Operations Challenge watches represent the perfect companion for the event participants. Inspired in the A.N.U. models and the Navy SEAL Colormark timepieces, the Luminox Special Operations
Challenge collection includes two special sets, one featuring the 3050 Navy SEAL Colormark (3053. SOC.SET) and one featuring the 4220 ANU (4223. SOC.SET). Each watch is sold as a set with an interchangeable webbing textile strap and changing tool. Each set includes one of the watch models, an interchangeable webbing textile strap and changing tool, as well as a L.S.O.C. patch. A percentage of the proceeds of the sales of these watches goes to the Navy SEAL Foundation. This foundation provides help for the die Naval Special Warfare Community and their families. Swiss made and water resistant, these timepieces offer a constant night visibility for up to 25 years, under all circumstances.

OPERATION HANGAR 61-16 EVENT XCOR Lynx updates The Operation Hangar 61-16 Event in Mojave, organized by XCOR, took place between April 14th and April 16th, 2016. 50 people attended the event, including 16 ticket holders, representing 12 different nationalities. Luminox representatives took part as well, and visited the XCOR facilities at the Mojave Air & Space Port and surrounding areas of Los Angeles.
During the event, participants were able to talk to the future pilots, Lynx engineers and the CEO Jay Gibson, and sign the Lynx Mark I that is being assembled in Mojave. The visitors could familiarize themselves with the various process stages of creating the spaceship at Hangar 61 while also experiencing an exciting virtual trip to space with different simulators.
XCOR Aerospace builds safer, more reliable and reusable rocket-powered vehicles, propulsion systems, advanced non-flammable composites and rocket piston pumps, while also building the XCOR® Lynx®. The Lynx family of vehicles serves three primary missions: research and scientific missions and private spaceflight in the Lynx Mark I and Lynx Mark II, and micro satellite launch on the Lynx Mark III.
Jeremy Voigt, design engineer at XCOR Aerospace, talked about the propulsion system of the Lynx spacecraft, while Erik Anderson, senior engineer, invited the participants to try out the Lynx simulator. Mike Valant, director of engineering and acting CTO, described the piston pumps and the tests used with motorcycles. A virtual reality spaceship was one of the highlights of the event, as well as a Lockheed Martin F-35 aircraft flying by at the Hangar.
As a key partner of XCOR Aerospace, Luminox is committed to making passenger space flights possible. A signed multi-year contract between Luminox and XCOR seals the promising partnership.
Luminox proudly supports XCOR in its mission to develop highly reusable and affordable engines to offer commercial flights to space.
The latest developments were presented during the event. Some highlights include: • The XCOR Lynx is now mounted on its final jack points, and soon the landing gear and propulsion system will be integrated. • The Lynx simulator system at XCOR’s Hangar 61 in Mojave includes different advanced flight scenarios and simulates hypothetical situations. We could see the Lynx instrument panels installed in the Lynx cockpit. According to XCOR’s experimental test pilot Harry van Hulten, “The next step with our efforts in the simulator is to continue implementing the lessons learned from advanced scenarios”. The Lynx simulator is a training tool that pilots are using to gain knowledge and provide feedback on aspects such as the instrument panel. • The Lynx propulsion system has moved forward significantly over the past months.

ABOUT LYNX:
ABOUT XCOR AEROSPACE:
Lynx is a unique instantly reusable launch vehicle that takes of horizontally from any airport runway. Once operational Lynx® will fly four times a day, with a simple land – refuel – check – take off proces like any other commercial airplane. This is what we call instant reusability. Moreover, Lynx’s engines are able to withstand over 5,000 spaceflights before they need to be replaced. The XR 5K18 rocket engines of Lynx® can be switched on and off at will by the pilot, like closed loop engines of cars for example. This is revolutionary for the space industry, since most technology relies on (solid) toxic fuels that can only be fired once and burns until all fuel is finished. Lynx’s engines drive on Kerosene and Liquid Oxygen, which are considered non toxics.
XCOR Aerospace is based in Mojave, California. It is currently creating a Research and Development Center in Midland, Texas, and will be establishing an operational and manufacturing site at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida with the assistance of Space Florida. XCOR® builds safer, more reliable and reusable rocket-powered vehicles, propulsion systems, advanced non-flammable composites and rocket piston pumps. XCOR® works with aerospace prime contractors and government customers on major propulsion systems, while also building the XCOR® Lynx®. The Lynx family of vehicles serves three primary missions: research and scientific missions and private spaceflight in the Lynx Mark I and Lynx® Mark II, and micro satellite launch on the Lynx Mark III. Lynx®production models are available to customers in the free world on a wet-lease basis for their own manned space flight programs. Learn more at www.xcor.com

Creating a Legacy of Ocean Warriors
My first impression of Scott was that he was a man on a mission. His stoic composure and straightforward attitude magnified this impression. As I got to know Scott he impressed me more and more with his passion for the oceans and his dedication to conservation. Since meeting Scott back in 2010 on Catalina Island I have had a few chances to work alongside him and watch his journey. I was one of the first ‘test pilots’ for the Great White, the small but mighty submersible that Scott and a team of volunteers rebuilt. Once she passed her depth rating we were able to pilot her around the shallows of Lake Tahoe. In 2012 I was a support diver and general assistant to the crew for the ‘30-Mile Dive’. This was Scott’s attempt to dive without surfacing from Catalina Island to San Pedro in order to raise awareness of the disappearance of sharks not only off the coast of California, but around the world. While the world record evaded him due to needing to surface because of technical difficulties, it did raise awareness and local papers and news stations picked up the story. Life is full of moments - big ones, small ones, great ones and bad ones. It is what you do with these moments that define the legacy you leave behind. Scott Cassell’s legacy is one of fighting for the oceans, fighting to give mother Earth her voice back, fighting for those who cannot fight. But it is also one of nurturing. Nurturing young minds so they can also appreciate and protect the ocean and that is why Scott has pushed to get youth involved in underwater exploration and conservation. It was this push that got me involved back in 2010. UVP recently set up a series of Micro-Grants in order to promote ocean research. One of these Micro-Grants is specifically geared towards young scientists in middle school or high school with a passion for the ocean. Students usually have a few science projects during their school year, and if it 32
happens to be ocean related, a student can apply for the grant. UVP hopes to encourage and facilitate young minds to pursue ocean science, and that they will come to love and cherish the ocean as Scott does. Getting involved with the Undersea Voyager Project was the first stepping stone in my life as an ocean warrior. That first week in Catalina opened up doors and connections that I never Tought possible. While applying for the CALUV 2010 project I met Captain Chris Wade, the Dive Safety Officer (DSO) of the California Science Center which led me to being a Volunteer Diver at CSC. I also met and volunteered with Nancy Caruso of Get Inspired! Inc. and became involved with her efforts to restore the abalone population off the Southern California coast. Today I have graduated college, been upgraded to a UVP Mission Specialist, piloted the Great White submersible, and developed the new Micro-Grant Program to stimulate interest in UVP and Ocean Science. Upon the development of the Micro-Grant Program I was awarded the Jerry Franciscovich Memorial Special Service UVP Micro-Grant which is allowing me to continue pursuing my love and passion for the ocean. This pursuit has led me to South Carolina for the summer where I will take a part of the Mixed Gas Surface Supplied Diver course at the International Diving Institute - the first step to become a commercial diver! The Undersea Voyager Project has several projects planned for coming up in 2016-2017 including another attempt at the 30-Mile Dive, exploration dives in Lake Tahoe, looking for Great White sharks off the Farrallon Islands, and discarded fishing nets recovery with the Ocean Defenders Alliance. With the support of Luminox, Scott is continuing his legacy as an ocean warrior while raising the next generation of ocean defenders.
SHAUNCASSELL SCOTT MARRIOT
Scott Cassell is an expert counter-terrorism operative and a consummate undersea explorer, who embraces danger and relies on Luminox timepieces as part of his Essential Gear. He also heads up two organizations – Sea Wolves and Underwater Voyager Project (UVP). Using SpecOps techniques, Sea Wolves identifies and films criminal acts, such as the killing or maiming of endangered aquatic species, and turns the evidence over to law enforcement to pursue prosecution. UVP is a non-profit organization that explores the health of the oceans and why they are failing.

To meet this challenge head-on UVP is prepared to not only train and inspire the next generation, but to give those qualified the actual opportunity to inherit UVP including all of our hard won assets, and our library of work. My goal is to pass the baton and Rebecca is an obvious choice as one of the next generation of UVP leaders.” Scott Cassell, American Explorer, underwater filmmaker and counter-terrorism operative. Becoming a Part of the Undersea Voyager Project. The Undersea Voyager Project is a not-forprofit (501-C-3) public-benefit company for Oceanic Research and Educational Outreach. Founded by undersea explorer Captain Scott Cassell, the Undersea Voyager Project utilizes manned submersibles to take a physical look at the first 100 –1,000 feet of ocean on a continuing series of missions to explore the oceans. UVP is privatizing ocean exploration and science by inviting the public to participate. Anyone can become a part of the Underwater Voyager Project by donating, participating, or helping to promote their cause. Scott encourages people from all ages and walks of life to participate, and even learn to pilot the great White. Luminox shares Cassell’s concern for the viability of the oceans, and is honored to partner with him by helping to fund both of his organizations. Working together Luminox and cassell have created the Scott Cassell Deep Dive Automatic Special Edition and the Scott Cassell Special Edition Dive sets. Proceeds from the sale of these dive watches help support the work of Sea Wolves Unlimited and the Underwater Voyager Project. Luminox LIGHT TECHNOLOGY
Luminox Light Technology (LLT) All Luminox watches feature a self-powered illumination system employing tiny micro gas light sources. This unique Swiss technology guarantees unsurpassed ability to read the time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for up to 25 years. Each watch has micro gas lights mounted on the hands, dial, and, when necessary, also on the bezel. This unique technology does not depend on an external light source to “charge“ fluorescent paint on the dial or hands in order to glow, nor do Luminox watches require the push of a button to light up as do watches with e lectroluminescence.
