Unit C CRISIS OF HULU LANGAT


Introduction Malaysia has recently beem hit by widespread ����� which was observed in various stage throughout the country between Saturday, December 17th, and Sunday 19th. Heavy rains began to fall on Friday, but the intensity of the rain increased ������� on Saturday. More than 34,000 people have been displaced as a result of severe ��� in at least six states, including Selangor, forcing the morbilisation of Malaysia’s militiary ������������������������������� Unit C focuses on current relief trends and their design implications for the communities who are vulnerable and also in need of humanitarian supports. How can we ���� ly advocate the policies taht help the disaster victim? How can humanitarian design and building contribute to the saving of lives, the protection of sustainable developement, and the promotion of peacebuilding in a larger framework of community and ressilience, while also honouring fundamental human rights for safety and shelther.

A compilation of the few most prominent building typology in Hulu Langat which is the topic our group

houses (upper left), kampung houses (upper right), industrial workshop (beside kampung house), school (below workshop), mosque and even the mixed use building. This poster also integrated human activities that are illustrated in the poster.

PARASITE "Ectoparasites survive by feeding on other organisms known as hosts. They are highly adaptable and can survive in a variety of environments." Humans seek refuge in their homes, but they are increasingly confronted with issues that threaten to destroy their homes. For an example flood disasters are expected to occur in Hulu Langat every year during the monsoon season and their houses were washed away by the flood.

Parasite micro home allows people to migrate with their homes and belongings when one feels threathened or dangered. The design incorporates preventative measures, flexibility, and sustainability, which benefits both the owner and the environment.

Light energy collected by solar panel

The house meets all of the requirements to be called a home. Despite its small size, it could accommodate a small family with a few activities going on at the same time.

Direct wind and spin the wind turbine

Parasite micro homes could switch between modes and attach to any surface. Legs are attached to the house to allow it to stand on the ground and adjust to terrain height differences. The bottom of the house is designed to float in water. Furthermore, steel ropes are part of the structural element which act as an anchor allowing the house to be hung among trees. When a parasite micro house attaches to different environments, it can prevent deforestation for new housing development, because it embraces and places itself among nature.

Rainwater collection into rainwater harvesting tank

The curve solar panel is cladded on the aluminium. The design obeys the Bernoulli’s principle, given an aerodynamic shape, which directs the wind movement to the wind turbine at the front and back of the structure. The wind turbine would transform into a water turbine when flood hapens. The house's exterior is covered with solar panels to generate electricity, and the wind turbine, when used to generate power, will convert into a water turbine.

While the house is designed off grid, it has sufficient power generating elements such as the solar panels, wind turbine and hydropower to supply the electrical needs of the user.

SITE PLAN The site is located at a undeveloped green area which located next to the river. Flood occured frequently which the water level can reach to around 3 metre height. The reason we chose this site because it has good view and wide area which is suitable for wind turbine to generate electricty.

‘‘In a context of climate change and rapid urbanization, the design community should consider to reengage and embrace urban water challenge as a design oppurtunity.’’ - Muller(2018)

This poster reflects that climate change is somthething that will happen 50-100yeras later. If the poeple keeps blocking the flood water and building high scafolding structure, they will change their lifestyle completely and turn to be walking on slits due to contamination in the water. Why not we use the natural way to filter the flood water instead of chlorine in order to bribg back their normal lifestyle like swimming, bathing, recreational and bathing.The value is right in front their doorstep they need to step out andappreciate it.

PROJECT 3 OASIS OF CALM ‘Architecture that solves the water crisis in Hulu lanagt.’


THE OASIS OF CALM

Community Water Bank & Visitor Centre Hulu Langat is facing serious water shortage issue during flood .My building is a community water bank that aim to supply water for the residents in Hulu Langat so that they do not have to wait for other authority for water supply. The building has its own filtration system using natural way such as wetland and biosand filter. The community can celebrate the clean water here with the public facilities like hot spring, sauna, public pool. The river water is filtered then stored so that it can be lifesaver for the community when flood happens. There is a micro dam in the middle act as a grey water collection and it is designed like a stepwell so that people can go down and swim. It is also supply water for the facilities around it so that my building can a sustainability water supply.

TECHNICAL REPORT


1.0 PLANNING AND BUILDING GUIDELINE 1.1 BUILDING SETBACK REQUIREMENT A 2.86 acres development in between Batu 18, Hulu Langat. The site is a rural area with dense forest. Location: Lot 808 Area: 2.86 acres According to site analysis by Unit C and some info from local authority, the site is allowed / conditional allowed for the development that proposed: Building Typology – (1) Institution (2) Community Centre (programme-specific to project proposal) Since the existing location has been severely damaged by the recent flooding, it is essential to reconstruct and recreate a locus of Batu 18 that can connect and gather the people of the town. Fire appliances access According to UBBL clause 140, the proposed building volume is 4013.27m3 , hence the minimum proportion of perimeter of building for fire appliances access is one-sixth of total building perimeter. Thus, road or open space not less than 12 metres width and accessible to fire brigade appliances is provided (as shown in site plan)

Foundation Detail Sub-Structure Concrete pad foundation -Foundation: Shallow foundation -pad foundation -Pad foundations are a form of spread foundation formed by rectangular, square, or sometimes circular concrete ‘pads’ that support localised single-point loads such as structural columns, groups of columns or framed structures. This load is then spread by the pad to the bearing layer of soil or rock below. Pad foundations can also be used to support ground beams. Strip foundation Strip footings are the best option for light loads, it is used as a mass concrete footing. The size and positions of strip footings are usually proportional to the width of the wall structure.
