Introduction The Hulu langat a district located in the southeastern corner of Selangor, between Kuala Lumpur and Negeri Sembilan. It is a valley surrounded by scenery fomed a beautiful horizon. Our site is formed by two main kampung which is kampung Dusun Tua and Kampung Jawa. Dusun Tua is one of the oldest kampung with 3 Tamans and roughly 7 Kampungs.
There are significant differences between Taman and Kampung. Kampung land belongs to the owner which usually leads to the siblings or relatives of the owner building their houses close to one another on the plot of land owned. Therefore, the houses in a kampong is also different from one another due to the freedom and choice of the owner to choose whether to upgrade his or her house or to retain its design as when it is inherited from their ancestors. We can see many many types of bangalow and kampung house in that area.

The most of the traditional Malay houses here were built by the owner himself with the help of other villagers.
Taman on the other hand is sometimes owned by the developer or the government which explains the original design of the houses being identical to each other. The united spirit is seen.
Residents in Sungai Lui, Hulu Langat, have been left to pick up the pieces after the floods likened by some to a tsunami – devastated their homes.
Flood is not an uncommon occurrence in Hulu Langat. “It’s not that we’ve never had floods before, but the highest the water would go was up to the calves, or thighs at most. It has never gone up this high.” said a lady who resided in Batu 19, Hulu Langat. That line was recorded in the most recent case in December 2021, which was one of the worst case in a long time. The floods in Hulu Langat were caused by a water surge from the surrounding mountains and had caused a number of homes, infrastructure, and personal items, including vehicles, destroyed.

Bangalow The layout of a kampung they preserved way for devolopment as It should be, picture a group of people that have no architecture “education” yet they are able to put together a dwelling or space just comfortable enough for themself. They can expand their house to maximise like car porch as their compund is usually really big.
There are also several banglow unit in this area, mostly serve as a weekend house or holiday house for owner once a while escape from city, recharge, rest and back to work. The material slowly evolved from timber to brick and steel due to the younger generation who inherited both the lands and houses from their ancestors.

Scheme House & Flat Plan Layout
Flat and Shoplots
Double Storey Terrace
Single Storey Terrace
For the flat, it’s mostly lived by foreign workers who were hired to help in nearby plantation. Hence most flat unit were use as workers bunk. The flat shoplots provide covenience for the foreign workers for groecery and necessities. It loses the identity of Malay Kampung house.
This new developed terrace is more comfortable and aesthetic compared to the flats and rumah sewa where it have the facilities like children playground and park
The problem with scheme house is they were using up a vast amount of land yet there only few resident living in it. The housing is less flexible for renovation and small compund compared to bangalow and kampung house, but the price of the housing is also cheaper in comparison.
