Get Your Parking Tag! Valid parking tags are required on any vehicles parking in the GSMNP for longer than 15 minutes. All revenue stays in the park to provide sustainable, yearround support focusing on improving the visitor experience, protecting resources, and maintaining trails, roads, historic structures, and facilities. Visitors who simply drive through the park will not need a parking tag. • Keep your distance – at least 50 yards (federal regulation) • Bring binoculars • Listen to Park staff/volunteers • Reduce speed near elk grazing/crossing areas • Elk calving season can mean calves hidden in the fields and protective moms • If near the road, stay in the vehicle for safety • If there’s a dog, it needs to be on a leash and in the vehicle away from the elk
