INSIDE MY MAKEUP BAG

Lustre Editor & Make-up Addict When it comes to make-up, I’m a self-confessed addict which means I have so much make-up, that I have to store it all in a set of storage drawers. However I like to keep my go-to everyday make-up seperate in its own cosmetic bags so I can easily find what I am looking for every morning. Only my favourite, fail-safe products make it into my make-up bag as I don’t want to waste time looking for the item I’m looking for. I like to keep all my make-up in the new MOR destination cosmetic bags as the two larger bags are see-thru which means I can easily find what I am looking for while the smaller one is perfect for travelling or keeping in your handbag.
Most days I like to keep it simple (well for me anyway), I wear a sunscreen as a primer which is why I love the Sunsense AntiAging Sunscreen as it’s oil-free & non-greasy. I also like the fact that it also contains AHA’s which makes me feel like its treating my skin & more than just a normal sunscreen. I then use a BB cream to even out my skintone, I’ve been using the Maybelline Dream Pure BB Cream lately which I’m really enjoying. It has a lovely matte finish & the 2% Salicylic Acid helps heal any blemishes that i might have (yes at 32 I’m still prone to breakouts). I conceal any breakouts with my Estee Lauder Double Wear Stayin-Place High Cover Concealer
30+ which I really like because it has a nice creamy texture & conceals everything but it’s still lightweight & lasts 12hrs. I then apply Garnier BB Cream for Eyes on any dark circles that I might have, I also like that this product brightens up the eye area & isn’t heavy or cakey. If I’m not wearing much make-up I like to stick to cream products on my cheeks, so I contour using my Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel. I love this product so much I’ve already used one up & have just cracked open a new one as there isn’t really anything else on the market like this matte, cream bronzer which I also like to use lightly on my eyes as a cream shadow. On my cheeks I like to use
a cheak tint & i’ve been digging Ere Perez Beautiful Beetroot Cheek & Lip Tint in Charm. I love the creamy texture of this gorgeous peachy tint which means you have a bit more time to blend it in than traditional stains. I generally skip eyeshadow & instead rim my waterline using Benefit Bad Gal Waterproof Liner, then curl my lashes & use my L’oreal Paris Telescopic False Lash Mascara in Waterproof Black. I always wear waterproof lashes as my lashes don’t like to hold a curl normally & I find waterproof mascaras are a bit like hairspray for the lashes, they keep the curl in place after using eyelash curlers & stop them from dropping back down. I find I don’t really need a powder with the Maybelline BB Cream so I just use a make-up setting spray instead, I’ve not found one better than Skindinavia Makeup Finishing Spray in the original formula. I like to prep my lips when I am doing my make-up with a lip balm so that when I apply my lippie at work, my lips are nice & hydratede since I tend to favour matte lipsticks. I’m loving Chap Stick mixstix in Stawberry Bananna Smoothie as not only does it have amazing moisturising properties, it also tastes delicious. For nighttime or a special occasion I will step things up a bit. I’ll start with a primer, at the moment I’m using Laura Mercier Foundation Primer in Radiance which gives a lovely glow without being sparkly. I then apply a medium coverage foundation using my fingers, I do swap my foundations up quite regularly but at the moment I’m loving Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow! Foundation which I like because it’s oil-free with a buildable coverage & gives your skin a luminous, healthy looking glow.
I still conceal any blemishes using my same concealer & same with the eye area but will also highlight using my concealer in an inverted triangle under my eye area. I then like to take a liquid highlighter like Benefit Sun Beam & apply to the top of my cheekbones, brow bone & above my brow bone for a subtle hightlight. I like to layer my products for extra staying power so I still use my cream bronzer & cheek tint so I will go in & layer a powder bronzer & blush over these areas. For powder bronzer my all time favourite is Benefit Hoola, this matte bronzer gives me the right amount of colour & doesn’t have any orange tones. With my blush I like Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Radiance Blush in Sweet Peach as it matches the tone of my cheek tint & the peachy colour really brightens up my skin tone. For my eyes I also like to layer my products as my eyelids can get oily & make my eyemake perform a vanishing act. I prime my eyelids with a primer or cream shadow like Maybelline Color Tattoo Metal in Barely Branded for a neutral look or Bad to the Bronze if I want to do a more smokey, bronze look. I love these cream shadows as once they set, they don’t budge which means you can wear them alone or as a shadow primer to make your shadow look more vibrant & last longer. I tend to stick to neutral eye shadow colours so I love Clinique All About Shadow Quad in Jenna’s Essentials. I’m not sure who Jenna is but she knows how to put together an eyeshadow quad as this one has the right mix of light & dark colours so I can use it for a natural eye look or to create a dramatic smokey look. If I am doing a dramatic eye look I’ll rim my waterliner but also smudge black liner onto my top & bottom lashline otherwsie I will use a liquid liner instead & create
a retro cateye complete with flick. I like the new L’oreal Paris Super Liner Blackbuster, this extra black marker style liner makes doing a cateye a breeze. If i’m feeling like I need some colour, I’ll use a coloured pencil under my lower lashline for a subtle pop of colour. I love the metallic, turquoise colour of the Elizabeth Arden Bold Eye Pencil in Iridescent Teal. After curling my lashes I like to layer my mascara (see there really is a theme here), I apply a waterproof volumising mascara like Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Everlasting Waterproof Mascara, then apply my everyday lengtheing waterproof mascara over the top for maximum lash power. I like a strong brow & since I was a teen in the 90’s I plucked mine away so I could have brows just like Drew Barrymore which means I need to now fill mine in so I can have lush full brows. I’m currently liking Model’s Prefer Luxury Powder Browliner in Medium & I’m not the only one; Australian superstar beauty guru Lauren Curtis also loves this brow pencil. I like this because it has a powdering texture rather than a waxy one (which seems to stick my brows down & make them look flat). To finish off my make-up I lightly set it with a powder, I like to use a loose mineral powder for a bit of extra coverage. I like Mineral Glow Loose Mineral Powder Foundation as it has a lovely fine texture but is talc-free, I then set everything with my make-up spray. And yes, I have skipped over lipstick but I have another make-up bag dedicated to all things lips so you’ll have to keep an eye out on a later issue for that.

THE PERFECT PREP If you’re trying a new brand of self-tanner, do a patch test 24-48hrs in advance especially if you have sensitive skin.
If you need to wax, do it 24hrs in advance & for shaving, allow 12hrs.
Exfoliate befor tanning concentrating on dry areas such as elbows, knees & heels.
Avoid using deoderant, perfume or body oils before, during or straight after application as this can effect your tan.
Apply a body lotion to dry areas such as knees, elbows & heels as these areas can absorb too much fake tan & look darker than the rest of your tan (a tell tale sign that you have fake tan on).

Avoid wearing tight or white coloured clothing while your tan is developing.
If you tan is taking too long to dry, stand near a fan or give a quick blast from your hairdryer on the cool setting.
If you are in a hurry or you are in a hot or humid climate, use a mousse or gel formulas as these tend to dry quicker.

We asked Redken Hair Director Lorna Evans on how to get her disheveled chignon style that we spotted at the MBFWA Group Swim show as we knew it was the perfect look to carry us through Summer especially when heading out straight from the beach. “For this look we wanted to create a beach hair story – the girl who spent the day on the sand, who then heads straight to the bar to meet friends. It’s not a high maintenance style, she wants something effortless yet chic,” 1. Apply RedkenFull Effect 04 only to the roots, section by section and beginning at the nape. 2. Follow with a small about of Diamond Oil Shatterproof shine working through the lengths with a wide tooth comb. 3. Tie the hair in a low ponytail at the nape. Apply Iron Shape 11 to the lengths then twist small sections as if creating dreadlocks. If you are at home you can flat iron each section & and then apply extra Full Effect 04 and Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine to create a wet-look finish. If you are at the beach just skip the flat iron step & just apply the styling product instead. 4. Tie sections together at the ends with a clear elastic. Twist into a bun at the nape. Secure with pins. 5. Rub a small amount of Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine into your hands and glide over the top lengths for shine. Finish with Forceful 23 to hold style in place.

When when we spotted the amazing golden waves on the model’s hair at Jaime Lee’s fashion show at the Perth Fashion Festival we knew this would be a perfect look for NYE. We tracked down the man behind the looks; L’Oréal Professionnel Ambassador and Perth Fashion Festival Hair Director Brad Ngata to find out how we could get the look ourselves.
1. Start by prepping the hair with L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.Art Volume Lift from roots to lengths. Then apply L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.Art Iron Finish for shine and protection from heat. Blow dry the hair back, away from the face. 2. Starting from the top of the ear, use a medium size curling tong to create curls through the lengths. Pin the curls and leave to cool. Once cool, remove pins and softly brush out for loose waves. 3. Mix two parts L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.Art Contorsion Fix and one part Professionnel Tecni.Art Liss Control in a mixing bowl. Using a tint brush, apply the mixture from the hairline back to the top of the ears. 4. In a mixing bowl, mix some L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.Art Contorsion Fix gel and gold glitter. Apply from the hair line to the crown. 5. Finish with L’Oréal Professionnel Infinium Lumière Ultimate hairspray and blast hair with a diffuser until completely dry.

Brush carefully. Your hair is most fragile when it’s wet, so don’t go ripping a brush through it after swimming. Spray some detangler on it, and then use a wide-tooth comb to minimize breakage. SUMMER LOVING With Summer weddings becoming more popular, don’t get caught out in the heat....

It’s going to be hot durring the day so keep your cool by avoiding dark colours but don’t be tempted to wear an all white dress (you’ll just annoy the bride). A midlength cocktail dress or nice sundress is appropriate. If it going to be a garden wedding or on grass, skip the stilletos & chose wedges or heels with a thick, stacked heel so youdon’t sink into the grass (and also ruin your shoes). Also consider the material; cotton or jersey is more casual, while silk, satin or other shiney materials are more formal (and better for night time). Just because it’s a daytime wedding (& more casual) doesn’t mean you can wear jeans or thongs & remember don’t wear anything too short or too tight.

For a late afternoon or nighttime wedding, the rule of thumb is to wear an outfit that you would wear for dinner at a nice, expensive restaurant. However double check what the dress code on the invite says. If the invitation says black tie, a floor-length, evening gown is your best bet (pretend you are heading to the Oscars). Black tie optional means that wearing a long evening gown is not mandatory, so you can wear shorter cocktail dresses as well as longer evening gowns. Cocktail attire means dress for sophistication. Skip the evening gown & stick to darker colors for the cocktail atmosphere. If there is no dress code but the wedding is being held outside, leave the stiletos at home and opt for something a bit more comfortable like wedges & dress more casually than an evening gown. And if you’re still indout, stick to darker colors. It used to be a no-no to wear black to a wedding, but no more, just grab that failsafe little black dress & you are good to go.
