Rich and rare were the gems he wore, And a bright gold ring on his hand he bore.

Gems being precious just cannot be possessed by all and sundry.

timeless

The hues of the opal, the light of the diamond, are not to be seen if the eye is too near.

glorious

Emerald as heavy as a golf course, ruby as dark as an afterbirth, diamond as white as sun on the sea...

The jewel within the mind subdues the mind; attached to the Truth, it is not broken.

sparkler

The jewel emerged from the water, when the mountain of gold was used to churn it.

My kind of design In the previous pages you were enthralled by images of intricate designs created using Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete. In the following pages it gives us great pleasure to introduce to you a few projects that Birla White GRC has realised - showrooms, hotels and malls. We, at Birla White GRC, have constantly endeavoured to realise and celebrate the designers’ and clients’ vision.

GRC GRC — Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete, is a composite material made of cement, fine aggregates, water, chemical admixtures and alkali resistant (AR) glass fibres. GRC has a unique combination of properties ideal for the construction & design industry. The alkali resistance property of glass fibres as reinforcement material provides long term durability because glass fibres, when used effectively reinforce the mortar mix thereby improving its tensile and flexural characteristics.

Applications:

• GRC cladding – Can be plain, textured, curved or with bands. • Ornamental / architectural components – Items such as window surrounds, porticos, cornices, Columns with capitals and bases, decorative elements, grills and sunscreens can be easily designed using GRC. It can also be used in replicating designs. • Roofing – GRC can be used in false ceiling due to its light weight. • Technical / Civil engineering – GRC as noise barriers. The weight per unit of GRC or its surface mass, stiffeners provides a property of noise insulation at lower frequencies. Typical 10 mm thick GRC having surface mass 20 Kg/ M2 will have an average sound reduction of about 30 Decibel.

Advantages: • • • • •

Lightweight – It allows fast installation and reduces dead load on structures. High strength – It allows greater lengths, reduced number of supports and thin sections. High impact resistance – This property of GRC minimizes breakages during transportation and erection. Durable – GRC needs low maintenance, it never rots or corrodes and no brittleness over a period of time. Choice of colour / Texture – The desired shade with various surface finishes such as plain or sand stone, striped granite, oak finish, stonewall and acid wash can be obtained using GRC. • No steel reinforcement – No electromagnetic interference with signaling cables makes GRC ideal for construction in any environment. • No health risk –Alkali Resistance (AR) glass fibre is irrespirable unlike asbestos fibre, which makes GRC a user friendly material. • Easy and dry Fixing – It avoids all problems of wet fixed cladding such as streaking and stained joints and can be dry fixed with stainless steel fixtures.

Exclusive features: • • • • • •

GRC is lightweight and has high tensile and flexural strength. The design flexibility of GRC enhances the architectural appearance of the building. The thin cross section of GRC makes it matchless in malleability. GRC has high density with low porosity, which makes it an ideal building material. The high impact resistance and non combustible property of GRC allows it to be used as a structural element. GRC’s resistance to weather, corrosion, abrasion, seismic shocks and termites makes it a versatile building material across the world.
