THE LUXE LIFE MINUTE WITH
CANDICE BAR
Q1. Your business survived Covid-19, what advice do you have to give to other entrepreneurs for future situations that may happen?
Q3. What was a change that you made that ended up opening doors for you and your business?
They need to have the ability to pivot, be flexible and see opportunities where others may not see it.
When I decided not to accept anything less than what I knew was inside myself. When you decide to actually do what you want to do, whatever that may be, however much you want to charge, no matter where you want to go, the second you make that decision, it’s a done deal. It has to be done internally in order to be done externally. You’re always going to continue having the same problems and struggling if you accept lesser anything than yourself.
Q2. As a self made female CEO and multi media mogul, how do you hold onto your vision for your business and life without allowing others to impact it negatively? I have never really allowed others to impact any of my decisions in life and business. I am very, very careful with who I decide to take direction from. If the person hasn’t already done what my goal and vision is, then I absolutely do not take one word of advise from that person. Any negativity in my life is quickly displaced.

Taking Advantage of the Market During Difficult Times
by: Virginia Nersesyan
COVID-19 Is Your Retirement Fire Drill ! Jennifer has worked at her corporate job as an executive administrator for 30-plus years. She was planning to retire in a few months. COVID-19 just delayed her plans for many months, or perhaps for years. Reflecting on what the market decline has done to her retirement savings, she conceals her anxiety with humor, remarking, “Now I may never be able to retire – I just hope my parking spot has not already been reassigned!” Sometimes all you can do is laugh at the situation. Jennifer joins countless worried younger and older working adults wondering how COVID-19’s impact on investments may have derailed their retirement plans. Without warning they joined the many anxious retirees concerned that their life spans might outlast their wealth spans.
The fear of running out of money is a real threat, but it’s only one dimension of retirement. COVID-19 has spotlighted the urgency of health and caring for loved ones. Suddenly, all of us are faced with the question, if I become ill, who will care for me and who will care for those that I love? Most of us will need some help and care in older age. Today, nearly one in four families provides care for an older adult. Do you have a long term care plan that will give you control of your money in times of need? It seems like time has fast-forwarded itself and we’ve all had a glace of what retirement will look like. Given the fast past of life, most Americans thought they have plenty of time to save and health was all about a quick fix.
Have no fear? Virginia is near. During these uncertain times, it’s more important than ever that you know we’re here for you. We continue to closely monitor new developments with COVID-19 and are taking important measures to ensure we can support you. As the coronavirus spread causes dramatic market swings, the uncertainty can feel scary, but the healthy response is to maintain long-term perspective, remain calm, and stay the course.

3. CONSIDER ALTERNATIVES TO LOANS AND WITHDRAWALS
While passion and emotion can be valuable character traits, they can work against you when investing. That’s because the average investor tends to sell when markets are low and buy when markets are high — that’s the exact opposite of a successful strategy. By cashing out or transferring out of lower performing funds when the market is down, not only are you potentially locking in losses, you’re also missing out on any upswing that follows. Remember, saving and investing requires a long-term perspective. Rather than reacting emotionally and potentially undermining a sound investment strategy, stay the course with a diversified mix of stocks, bonds, and cash.
Taking a retirement plan loan or withdrawal from your 401K can have a substantial impact on your financial future, so it should only be considered as a last resort. Remember, when you take money out of your retirement plan account, it’s no longer invested, and you may lose potential growth needed to help fund your retirement. Each plan is different, so if your work situation has changed, we encourage you to discuss the details with your HR so that you may determine the best course of action.
4. RETIRING SOON? KEEP THE FOLLOWING IN MIND Even if you’re retiring in a few years, a good retirement strategy would have your allocations shifting to more conservative investments over time. And remember, you won’t need access to all of your money right away. You still need your investment strategy to work for you through your lifetime, which means some of your assets may be invested for another five, 10, or 15 years and can weather short-term volatility.
2. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF DOLLAR COST AVERAGING When prices are low, like now, you can purchase more shares. Dollar cost averaging — making consistent contributions on a regular schedule — allows investors to reduce timing risk. And in a fluctuating market, the average cost per share is generally lower. Keep in mind that dollar cost averaging does not guarantee a profit or protect against a loss in a declining market, so you should consider your ability to continue investing through periods of adverse market conditions.
5. REMAIN CALM AND STAY THE COURSE Ultimately, it’s your actions — not the market — that have the greatest impact on whether or not you’ll reach your retirement goals. Rather than focusing on what’s happening today, determine your long-term investing strategy — and then stay the course. pg. 7 |Luxe Life Magazine

Foods That Help You Lose Weight… by: Hilmi Ahmad
…Is
an endless pursuit of a secret since the dawn of the industrial revolution. Modernization replaced nutrients with convenience leaving us to wrestle with shrunken stamina and expanded waistlines, confusing boredom with hunger, losing all meaning of healthful and mindful eating, yikes! But wait, its not all gloom and doom and there is nothing like a great comeback story. Thanks to new research and ease of information people have finally started to make changes to their lifestyles and regaining control. And, so everything begins with a breakdown of what we chose to eat and how it affects our body weight, shape and metabolism. Enter, the Gut Microbiome with a roaring applause! Hear ye, hear, ye, I may be small but I am mighty. These are microorganisms found mostly in the small and large intestines made up of different kinds of bacteria going to work each day either to help us or to push us towards disease. Based on DNA and through infancy we developed our own unique microbiota that in adulthood is somewhat, thankfully, in our control due to diet and environmental factors. Research has shown they can certainly play a significant role in weight gain, hunger, and fat storage, indirectly adding to our body fat composition.
Join Chef Hilmi Ahmad on her podcast, Food Rhapsody.
According to research two microbes, Akkermansia muciniphila and Christensenalla minuta have been found to have a link with lean body weight, prevention of weight gain, and improved metabolic health. Supplements for these two microbes don’t exist yet, however we can increase the ones we already own. Research has shown they can certainly play a significant role in weight gain, hunger, and fat storage, indirectly adding to our body fat composition.
I think we’ve all heard of the term pro-biotic but what the heck is a pre-biotic? In a nutshell, pro-biotics are microbes, made up of living organisms and specific strains of ‘good’ bacteria that are already living in your gut but can be replenished and diversified with certain foods and supplements.
Foods that increase these are:
•Cherries •Berries: blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, elderberries, cranberries •Black tea, Green Tea, Filter coffee •Flaxseeds •Rhubarb extract •Fatty fish and/or fish oils, sardines, mackerel, salmon, tuna, trout, anchovies, herring.
pg. 9 | Luxe Life Magazine
So what’s a pre-biotic you say? They are the nourishment for the probiotic. We must feed it to watch it grow. Pre-biotics are fibers but different from cellulose, such as the ones you know from your favorite cereal. Cellulose fibers feed a wide variety of microbes whereas pre-biotics focus only on the beneficial ones, thereby keeping the bad guys out… our heroes!
There are three types and, good news; chances are that you are consuming many already.
Soluble: •Jerusalem artichokes (also known as sunchokes) •Dandelion greens •Onions, garlic, leeks, fennel bulbs, shallots •Chicory root •Pulses •Nuts •Savoy cabbage •Asparagus •Bananas
Polyphenols, by reducing inflammation and being heart healthy: •Walnuts •Various berries •Citrus peels •Coffee •Tea
Resistant starches, those work by slowing down digestion and helping with blood sugar levels as well: •Uncooked oats •Unripe bananas •Tiger-nuts •Seaweed •Pulses •Cooked and cooled, pasta and potatoes
Now I can think of some pretty clever ways of combining them for breakfast lunch and dinner options. Over night oats with mixed berries and walnuts anyone, or how about a savoy cabbage kimchi with garlic and onions for a double whammy of a pro and pre-biotic dose. Who knew losing weight gave us so many options, yum! And though there is no known microbe that will cause skinny, we do know now that just by increasing our good gut flora and feeding it regularly we can beneficially effect the way our bodies look and feel to us. Beautiful from the inside out!

THE
CONSCIOUS COUPLE Interviewed by: Candice Bar Featuring: Darcy and Corinne Cavanaugh
You have been coined as the Conscious Couple what does that mean to you?
“We strive to be aware of everything that is going on in our world so we can continue to focus on helping others.” -Corinne Cavanaugh
Corinne: First and foremost, our main focus as the Conscious Couple is to always help others. In order to be successful at this, we are conscious of the many things that are happening with us in our everyday lives, society and the whole world and how they all intertwine. We strive to be aware of everything that is going on in our world so we can continue to focus on helping others. This is something that is very important to Darcy and me. One way we are working to help others is through our nutraceutical company which is an exciting new venture of ours. We also enjoy doing charity work and philanthropy. There are certain organizations that are very important to us. Darcy: In being the Conscious Couple, we want to be the ambassadors of goodness. We consider ourselves to be good people and want to align with other good people to do great things. We practice this in our business, our life, and with our relationship. We make decisions together by being conscious of each other’s wants, needs and values.
pg. 15| Luxe Life Magazine
Why is giving back such an obvious importance? Corinne: Giving back is where its at! Giving back is
what drives us. When you give, you feel better. If I go and volunteer somewhere such as the women’s shelter or the food bank or the soup kitchen, you just feel better. There is a place here in Red Deer where I went and helped out the Women’s Dress for Success. It’s for helping women reenter into the work force after going through abusive relationships or immigrant women trying to reenter the work force to help provide for their family. For me, going there and being able to help those women dress and feel good about themselves, it filled my cup up. It’s just amazing what it can do.
Darcy: It’s part of our internal makeup. It speaks to
us, it’s part of where our heart is. Corinne and I don’t go out there consciously making an effort to put others best interest ahead of our own, it’s just something that we do and has always come naturally.
Corinne: Yes, and we don’t need accolades for it
either. We do good out of the goodness of our hearts, it’s not to be recognized or to be placed in the spotlight. We enjoy it.
Being partnered in life and in business is not always easy and fun, what is your secret sauce to maintaining a healthy relationship on all levels? Darcy: The word compromise comes up a lot. Corinne: Yes, and agreeing to disagree. We find it
important to never give up, no matter how hard it is, and always being consistent. It is important to hear each other’s viewpoints and find a way that each one can be implemented into the business. This way, each of our voices are heard. We also have two sons, so another way to make business work is there had to be enough time for me to be with the family and keep the house going and flowing and the kids while Darcy was on the front lines of the business. There had to be balance. When we would have stressful days, we would support each other. Even if we both had a stressful day we could relate and support each other with our stress.
“We find it important to never give up, no matter how hard it is, and always be consistent.”
pg. 16 | Luxe Life Magazine
What are your top 3 characteristics about each other that you value? Corinne: Darcy’s integrity. His loyalty to
me and to our children. And he has a deep love for me, we are soul mates and it’s just amazing. He has such great passion paired with determination. If he gets an idea, nothing is holding him back. He is a lot less fearful than I am. Darcy is way more willing to jump into something and do it and knows we will figure it out along the way. I truly admire that. I have more fear, but I appreciate what Darcy does because that helps me to grow more and become less fearful.
Darcy: I would just mirror that with
Corinne. Her loyalty, commitment to myself and it goes way deeper than just my being. We complement each other.
Throughout your partnership, what have you learned to accept from each other?
How did the relationship blossom? Corinne: We were so young
when we met, we started as just friends. When I was in high school and Darcy was in University, it grew into something that was way more than just friends.
Corinne: Darcy is very Type A personality. He is very particular with certain things. There are things that I am very particular about though, and he’s not.
Darcy: We were together for 7 years before we got married. Darcy: During our early years in our relationship there were a few times where there were opportunities for us to go separate ways. Even when I went away for University, we were a part, and I’d come home on weekends. Technology wasn’t as good back then, so the regular wall mounted phone was there, so we had once a week conversation and I’d come home on the weekends hopefully. We had several opportunities for us to have different relationships and it didn’t happen.
Darcy: They are all little things. Nothing that is like “Oh ok I’ll just have to deal with this for the rest of my life”, it’s never like that. In our relationship those little things come up on occasion, but rarely do they ever come up because we’ve been together for so long. Corinne has made me a better person, and hopefully I’ve made her a better. Corinne: Yes, Darcy has made me a better person as well. We’ve been together since I was 16 and Darcy was 17. Darcy: And that’s why I don’t
have anything critical to say because I’ve become more like her and she’s become more like me. We’ve become each other. We are one entity.
The Cavanaugh’s have been very successful for over 30 years working together as husband and wife, business partners and best friends.
pg. 17 | Luxe Life Magazine
Corinne: We feel like we have
always been together, even in past lives. We have had so many past lives together and we are meant to be.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP Darcy, you’ve hit the ground running, you’ve gotten some early bumps and bruises and still maintained. From Corinne’s perspective, what are your feelings to see this firsthand? Corinne: He exited his past career of 30
years and then BOOM; within 2 months we’re making these big deals. It did worry me a little bit at first. When we started this journey, there was no more consistent income coming in. I came from a very middle-class family and it was in the oil industry growing up. We had to wait a few months sometimes for a lot of these oil field companies to submit payment to my family. That is always a fear of mine that I am working on, that the money isn’t going to come in. There are days that I have that I am scared thinking about how Darcy has jumped into this business. Again, I think it has a lot to do with how I grew up. There are many adjustments to be made in mindset and in life, but they are all good. Darcy is now home all of the time as well which is different. On this entrepreneurial journey we’ve relented to the universe and we are trusting this whole process. We are in this together, and it’s for the good. We still have to look out for ourselves though. I do trust Darcy because he is a very astute and keen businessman with great intuition. He has never led our family into something wrong, so I trust him completely and support him.
Darcy: Yes, and even though this is the first time I have been a “full time” entrepreneur, what Corinne doesn’t realize is the 30 years I was in the insurance industry, 25 years of it as an owner, I was always investing in myself and more shares of the company. I was always taking a leap of faith with the business. Corinne has always been, and I know will always be right alongside me. What I’ve done now is withdrawn my financial holdings out of the insurance industry, and am using that to get involved and becoming a serial entrepreneur, very quickly. With that being said, to me it’s not very different from what I have always been doing even when I was involved in the insurance industry. The one big difference now is that we are on the accelerated program as far as getting involved in other businesses. For a better perspective, what we did over 25 years in the insurance industry, we are condensing into about 5 months!
Corinne: Yes, and there is a huge part of
“The word retirement is not in my vocabulary. There is nothing better than being engaged and excited about something.” -Darcy Cavanaugh
me that loves it! It’s stimulating, it keeps you young, healthy and vibrant too.
Darcy: The day I exited my insurance
career I said to Corinne “Yes, we could park our money and be financially set for the rest of our lives, but there is no way in this world I am parking our money. I want to be active.”
Corinne: Yes, there are so many retired
people that literally they just go and sit in Palm Desert. This is not for us. Its stagnant and not fun. Eventually you could choose to not take on as many projects or delegate more, but at the end of the day, at our age you can choose how busy you want to be.
pg. 18 | Luxe Life Magazine
Tell us about the new company and product you’ve launched. Darcy: The name of the company is
“This breakthrough ingredient increases the absorption of vital nutrients to combat harmful free radicals to optimize your immune system.” -Darcy Cavanaugh
Salvation Nutraceuticals Inc. and the name of our product is GSH+. GSH is the acronym for glutathione. It is the combination of ingredients in our product that triggers the production of glutathione in the body. Glutathione is the master antioxidant in your body that conducts immunotherapy building and strengthening for your immune system.
Corinne: I would love to start out by saying our product is brilliant. Its intended to take as a daily product for the rest of your life, not on a per symptom basis. Glutathione is needed in your body for many things.
Corinne: Synergistically they are power houses.
Darcy: We will be the first
company that has this specific formula. Our product also has an important ingredient, NACET. NACET increases the production of glutathione in your body and it is instrumental in the absorption of glutathione. For an example, as soon as Vitamin C is oxidized by the cell, the cell can no longer utilize the Vitamin C. NACET grabs a hold of the Vitamin C and makes it active again in your cell allowing for increased production, absorption and utilization. NACET increases the production of the master antioxidant glutathione. This breakthrough ingredient increases the absorption of vital nutrients to combat harmful free radicals to optimize your immune system.
Corinne: Its similar to a
double blade. If you think of a double-edged razor blade its high quality and it has top quality ingredients to help with that absorption rate. Not only that, but it does cross the blood brain barrier. With that being said, it’s not like a Vitamin C. If you take too much of something, your body only uses what it needs and flushes the rest of it out. With our product that utilizes NACET, the antioxidant remains in the body, travels through the blood brain barrier, and it stays in the body. It finds all of the damaged cells that need to be repaired, and it stays there until the cell regenerates again.
Darcy: That’s where the cognitive function support comes in. It helps the free radicals and it detoxes your body of any type of heavy metals or compromising agents.
Darcy: Yes, there are a lot of benefits such
as: it enhances respiratory function, supports cognitive function, elevated sense of well-being, supports muscle strength and endurance, may help blood sugar regulation, promotes intracellular immune function, helps boost the immune system to fight bacteria viruses and pathogens, increased energy, powerful liver support, and superior bioavailability of key ingredients. The ingredients in our product are all great on their own, but collectively the sum of the parts is greater than the whole.

Being an entrepreneur at this moment with COVID-19, what are some tips that you could give other entrepreneurs to help them move forward in a positive way? Darcy: Setting intentions for the day is very
important. I always say positive thinking matters.
Corinne: Perspective and routine matters. You have to ground yourself and get yourself to be in a place where things are ok. From there, you can grow and do what you need to do. We are very blessed because what we are doing with our new product is not negatively influenced economically.
“With entrepreneurs, the whole world is changing. There is nothing normal anymore. However, with all of these changes it is creating a lot of opportunity.” -Darcy Cavnaugh
Darcy: Yes, however, some of our business
What are your feelings behind the creation of the product? Darcy: I think it is very relevant in today’s day
and age with COVID-19 happening. We can’t say it is a cure for COVID-19, but it will certainly keep the immune system strong.
Corinne: Yes, it’s like the invisible mask but more. It is important to note under these unprecedented times that it is an immune system product.
Darcy: I don’t like to say the words “it boosts your
immune system”, the word “boosts” gets overused, it strengthens it. Boosting it is temporary. Our product GSH+ builds and strengthens the immune system.
Corinne: That’s why immunotherapy is such a
good word, its therapy and maintenance for your immune system.
is influenced by the economy in a way. Positive thoughts and intentions daily help. Count your blessings and think of all the good things we do have as opposed to all the things you don’t have.
Corinne: There are a lot of people who are
struggling right now, and it is really hard to stay positive and to count your blessings. Some families have all lost their job and are struggling to take care of elderly parents or disabled children. It is really difficult. It is important to appreciate what we do have because we really all are finding now that we really do not need a lot to be happy. We are finding that it doesn’t matter how many purses, shoes or clothes we have. It is a short-term excitement.
Darcy: With entrepreneurs, the whole world
is changing. There is nothing normal anymore. However, with all of these changes it is creating a lot of opportunity. What was then is not now. I advise that you look for the opportunities instead of thinking that’s not the way it was yesterday, and it will never go back to that. So, look at the opportunities and open your mind to change to create a new way.
pg. 20| Luxe Life Magazine
Corinne: This pandemic is forcing people to think outside
the box and become more creative to become successful. For example, around here where we live there are a lot of breweries that are making hand sanitizer! They have the ability because hand sanitizer has alcohol. Also, the oil economy is in the hole right now and a lot of the factories here are producing and making parts for ventilators. Many manufacturing facilities are retooling and manufacturing something else that is needed right now.
Darcy: Another piece of advice is to never be in one lane. If everybody is looking in one direction, look in the other direction. The world is creating holes in the business world, so fill those holes and you will fill the needs.
“People can get rich, but they don’t know how to be rich, there is a big difference.” -Darcy Cavanaugh
How do you want to leave your legacy? Corinne: It is important for me to leave behind an
impact and understanding that you can be a very successful person and a good person at the same time. You can do business clean.
Darcy: I would say at the end of the day, its ok to be
a good person. Most of the world is becoming “me, me, me, what is this going to do for me?”. They don’t think about what this could do for others.
Corinne: For our boys, Darcy wants them to under-
stand that you work damn hard for what you’re going to get, be good to others and just be a good human being. Have integrity in life and business. If there is corruption, get rid of it. Keep yourself surrounded with good energy.
LEGACIES
Darcy: I believe that good has to trump evil. As far
as business is concerned, there are plenty of people out there to tell you how to get rich. People can get rich, but they don’t know how to be rich, there is a big difference. If business comes from your heart, it’s always a beautiful thing. Money is external. You can’t take the paper money, that is dirty, people have touched it, and attach that to your heart and make it eternal. What you believe and what you want always to have to be in alignment. You have to be open to abundance. When that happens, flow happens. When you are open to abundance, and the universe knows you are going to help others, that is the secret sauce right there. The money will then find you, because the universe knows those of us who want to truly help others and do good.

“On this entrepreneurial journey we’ve relented to the universe and we are trusting this whole process.” -Corinne Cavanaugh
Can you each leave us with a final thought or statement on entrepreneurship or business and relationships? Darcy: I want to make the point that whether it’s a personal relationship, a business or in life, if you do the same things in all three of those, they are all connected. They should all have the same protocol of integrity and loyalty.
Corinne: From a personal marriage standpoint, agree to
disagree and be ok with it. Each person in the marriage is allowed to have their own opinion and life. If you need to have an argument about something, have that argument and then be done with it. Life goes on and don’t bring it up again.
Darcy: Yes, kick your garbage to the curb. Don’t hoard onto that negative energy or disagreement after it is resolved. You can choose to come together because some of the parts are greater than the whole.
Corinne: We truly do not like conflict, but we don’t avoid
it. If we have a disagreement or something that one of us did that, we are mad about, we can’t stay mad very long we have to deal with it. Both sides have to be open to listening and working towards a solution together. It can’t be one sided.
Darcy: Good energy is exhausted very quickly by bad energy.
Corinne: This is for the female entrepreneurs especially, when you look good, you feel good and can continue to do good! Style your own life.

Hand Sanitizer By now, hand sanitizer has become a lot more accessible. Invest in multiple travel size bottles of hand sanitizer under 3oz to carry with you. Even for someone who isn’t neccesarily worried about contracting COVID-19, this is a good item to have while traveling. Airports will also have these small bottles in the shops that are open. If you are traveling by car: Most rest stops/gas stations have small bottles of hand sanitizer at the checkout counter. I advise you get one and keep it close. Use before and after getting out of the car. If necessary, bring disposable gloves. These will be handy to use at gas stations, where it is said caused a lot of infections of the virus.
Masks Keep a mask handy on you at all times. It is at the facilities discretion whether they require face masks, so it is difficult to plan ahead for a specific geographic area and assume that all places have the same guidelines in place.
Airports
by: Chelsea Rosa
As entrepreneurs, most of us are highly exposed to travel and new
experiences. Traveling during a pandemic is very new, and can be scary or intimidating if you are not properly prepared. With the understand that COVID-19 isn’t going away anytime soon, I have put together some guidelines for traveling sanely and safely.
Expect the Unexpected My advice is stay in your own lane. During a pandemic, people can be in a high stress state. There are many different opinions and beliefs about the virus and the validity/seriousness. Understand what your views are, but also be respectful of others who may have different views. It is your job to protect yourself as you feel needed. While traveling, you will be around/ exposed to others. Do what you can to know what may be expected of you, example, visit a reputable website online to understand what the regulations are in the place/places you are traveling too. (www.cdc.gov) All states have different mandates for businesses, stay at home orders, and mask requirements. Although they are doing an excellent job of keeping the internet up to date with re-openings and shelter in place orders, they are changing quickly. It is smart to be aware of signs posted in stores and airports. pg. 26 |Luxe Life Magazine
While flying, you will notice the airport is very empty. In my experience, you were not required to wear a mask in the airport, however, each airline has their own guidelines on their plane. Be sure to look ahead of time to see what your airline guidelines state. In my experience, the airline boarded 10 people at a time. There was a seat between each passenger unless you were traveling together. Masks were mandatory on the plane except for when passengers were eating or drinking.
Food No matter what travel method you are using, it is important to pack some non perishable food. Not all restaurants and stores are open, and you may find yourself in a setting where food is not accessible. Having a few small snacks that are convenient for travel packed with you will eliminate the chance of being without food for a long period of time. Stay safe and healthy, continue to be open minded about adapting to the reality of the world we live in now. As entrepreneurs, our brains are equipped to do this. Travel safe!

Babies &
Business By: Tiffany Powers
In
my coaching sessions with successful women, one of the most common life decisions that we discuss is balancing family and work. High-powered women are either struggling with balancing their careers and families, or debating whether they SHOULD start a family while trying to navigate a successful career. I give guidance to successful entrepreneurs every day. One of the things I want all of my clients to understand is that I truly practice what I preach - my husband and I just welcomed a baby in April. He is our fifth child and our first child together in our blended family (Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d have five kids.) Five boys is no walk in the park. A lot of people say boys are easier, but it’s totally a lie!
Raising five rowdy boys, running four businesses - how is it even possible? It is TOTALLY possible to not only survive managing a family and a successful business but to thrive. Here are some of the tips I give my clients regarding managing our BUSINESSES and BABIES.
I was able to work throughout my pregnancy, and am back at it already, working on the four companies my husband and I own between us.
pg. 29 | Luxe Life Magazine
Support
Raising children really does take a village. Cultivate a support network of friends, family, colleagues, and other like-minded women and moms. Communicate with your partner directly, and often, about what you need from him/her in terms of support. Most importantly, don’t feel like you need to do it all yourself. Never feel guilty about hiring other professionals. There are tons of qualified nannies, house cleaners, dog walkers, landscapers, and professional organizers out there. Apps like Instacart and TaskRabbit are there to help. Use them, and don’t feel guilty about it! Don’t be afraid to outsource.
Systems
Come up with systems for things like ordering groceries, laundry, household tasks, sorting mail, etc. Again, there are apps for almost everything. If you haven’t already, check out apps like Trello, Wunderlist, TaskRabbit, Tody, Clean My House there truly is one for everything! Also, try to clearly outline who in your house is responsible for what each week. Work smarter, not harder. It is critical that you take time for self-care. My choice for relaxing comes in the form of a bath every day - I take 30 minutes to myself with no kids. To avoid burnout, get plenty of sleep, try to exercise a little bit every day, eat well, and make time to do the things you enjoy.
Self-Care
Busy mothers tend to feel guilty of putting themselves first, but it really does benefit your family and your business in the long run. Having Support, a solid Schedule, helpful Systems, and practicing Self-Care can help you thrive as an Entrepreneur Mom. I want to use my experience to prove to my clients and readers that it’s totally doable to have a family and achieve your business dreams. We are adaptable and strong. We figure things out as we go.
Schedule I see a lot of entrepreneurs who are out of balance. They tend to overwork and leave not enough time for their families. Written or online schedules can help with that. Whether you use a scheduling app or a planner, schedule EVERYTHING - showers, time with family, and blocks of working time. Make a schedule that works for you and includes your priorities. If you find you can’t get to something, reschedule it, just like you would an important work meeting.
High-powered women should not be afraid to start a family - the very skills that make them successful entrepreneurs will help them balance the workload of family and business.
