EDITOR’S LETTER
Reflecting on this quote from James A. Michener:
“The master of the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind & his body, his education and his recreation, his love & his religion... To him, he is always doing both.”
I can’t help but think of Bobbie Beautiful and Charlton Alicea-Tapp. They have seamlessly woven their lives and surroundings into the art of living (pg. 87).
Although the art of living will mean something different to us all, the beautiful cover photographed by Emily Abay in KYHA is an example of how I personally see the the art of living. LUX had the opportunity to speak with Kyha on her designs and her unique twist on tradition. Or a visit to the newest Burgundy hotel COMO Le Montrachet exemplifies the idea of experiencing the art of living.
For others it may be may be the exhilaration and adrenalin of the fastest raging bull ever as in the new Lamborghini Revuelto (pg. 119). A fun fact of how the bull logo came to be, actually there are two: The first reason is that the company’s founder Ferruccio Lamborghini was born in Taurus. The second is he had a passion for bullfighting and he would regularly attend bullfighting events.
Life is a celebration, in an era of digital ARZBERGER continues to power its presses (pg. 82) sharing an exquisite hand written note with another is timeless. Most significantly, a handwritten note can change the course of someone’s day, week or even life. These simple, but powerful acts embrace the art of living.

400 Years of the Palace of Versailles
1623 - 2023:
In 2023, the Palace of Versailles celebrates its 400th anniversary. For four centuries, the Palace has held a unique place in history and in our collective imagination. To celebrate this anniversary, a diverse array of public programming will be planned, including the re-opening of the Gallery of the History of the Palace, scheduled for September.
This anniversary year is an invitation to revisit the long history of the palace and its estate.
1623: THE BIRTH OF A MYTH NAMED VERSAILLES
Though Henry IV appreciated the game-rich forests of the modest hamlet of Versailles, it was his son, Louis XIII, who selected this location for a hunting lodge that he took full ownership of in 1623. A few years later, he had a grander palace built on the site of the pavilion. This palace, more comfortable and better decorated, was more fitting for prerogatives of the royal office. It was in this palace that the future Louis XIV, still a child, spent a few nights around 1640.
Needless to say, we have the Sun King to thank for the palace we see today. To show the magnificence of his reign to all Europe, in 1661 Louis XIV took his father’s modest palace and transformed it into one of the most beautiful buildings in the world. He installed his court there in 1682. His successors, Louis XV and Louis XVI, remained very attached to this location.
In the 19th century, despite the upheavals of several successive regimes in France, Versailles remained a powerful political symbol. Emptied of its furniture since the Revolution, in 1837 Louis-Philippe transformed it into a museum “dedicated to all the glories of France.”
The current purpose of the palace thus defined, Versailles continued to play its role in the history of the 19th and 20th centuries, from the proclamation of the German Empire in 1871, to the signing of the Treaty of Versailles in 1919. In addition, we must not forget Rockefeller’s donation that helped save and preserve the estate in the 1920s.
A RENOVATED GALLERY OF THE HISTORY OF THE PALACE
In honor of this exceptional anniversary, the museum is currently undertaking a complete renovation of the Gallery of the History of the Palace, which will reopen to the public in September 2023. This gallery will serve as an introduction to a visit to the palace, covering four centuries of the history of Versailles, tracing, up to today, the transformations of a palace in continuous flux. The new layout, rich in artworks and objets d’art and complete with a digital interface, will allow the visitor to peek into the splendors of a bygone Versailles, and to better understand the architectural masterpiece that we know today.
COMO Le Montrachet, opened its doors on April 15th, 2023. Situated in the heart of Burgundy, one of the world’s most prestigious wine regions, the hotel is a celebration of French gastronomy, hospitality and style.
To create COMO Le Montrachet, COMO has sensitively reimagined Hotel le Montrachet, a 19th century ‘place du village’ inn located in the village of Puligny-Montrachet, Burgundy. The hotel is housed across three heritage buildings arranged around the charming village square which lies just steps from the legendary ‘Le Montrachet’ vineyard. Guests can choose from 30 individual rooms and suites. For this project, the COMO Group has again collaborated with esteemed designer Paola Navone, who also designed COMO Castello del Nero in Tuscany. Navone’s redesign of COMO Le Montrachet is elegant in its translation of the ‘esprit du lieu’ and complemented by contemporary touches. The overall palette is inspired by the colours of the Burgundy countryside with custom-designed furnishings specially curated for the hotel. Under the leadership of General Manager, Florian Bonnin, the hotel encompasses the best of COMO. In keeping with the gastronomic traditions of the area, Le Montrachet Restaurant will reopen with Executive Chef, Romain Versino overseeing the menu which will change with the seasons in order to best showcase the produce from local farmers and suppliers.
COMO Le Montrachet is an ideal getaway for oenophiles and wine connoisseurs. In addition to Montrachet, one of the most renowned vineyards in the world, four Grand Cru vineyards and seventeen Premier Cru vineyards lie close to the hotel as well as the villages of Chassagne-Montrachet, Meursault, Volnay and Pommard. The hotel’s own sommelier, André Berthier, is available to take guests on private wine tastings and trips to local wineries. Guests can also enjoy wine tasting workshops where they will visit a vineyard to learn about the vines and enjoy wine samplings in the vineyards with the sommelier or vintner.
Burgundy also has much more to offer visitors than just fine wine and is a year-round destination. From cooking classes and bicycle tours, to scenic hikes and hot air balloon rides over the vineyards, the region has something for everyone. Highlights include the local Beaune jazz and classical music festival in July and August, the period “vendange” in mid-August where the grapes are harvested, and the vivid change of colours in the vines in both spring and autumn are sights to behold.

Hennessy X.O Unveils Masterpiece Collaboration With Kim Jones
In a first for the Maison, the acclaimed fashion designer transcends couture and cognac in a special collection featuring a collectible sneaker, Masterpiece decanter, and limited edition bottle.
In an audacious meeting of two icons, the Hennessy X.O x Kim Jones collection bridges street and luxury in a unique celebration of the legendary blend’s impact on culture.
Interweaving the richness of Hennessy X.O’s 150-year heritage with Kim Jones’ creative vision, the collaboration features the Hennessy X.O Masterpiece designed by Kim Jones, the Hennessy X.O Limited Edition bottle by Kim Jones, and in a first for the brand, the HNY Low by Kim Jones. This also marks the first time Maison Hennessy has partnered with a fashion designer, and that Kim Jones collaborates with a spirits brand.
“We are thrilled to embark on a new odyssey blending cognac-making and couture with Kim Jones, a creative master of our time,” said Laurent Boillot, Hennessy CEO.
“Inspired by the emblematic personality of Hennessy X.O, Kim has developed a resolutely contemporary collection that is destined to make an impact on culture today and in the future.”
For Hennessy X.O, Kim Jones pays tribute to cognac-making and couture, two processes that touch on an understanding of science and the natural world as well as artisanal craftsmanship and savoir-faire. He follows in the footsteps of a formidable lineage of great masters who have helped cement Hennessy X.O’s cultural resonance over the years, including Frank Gehry, Cai Guo-Qiang and Ridley Scott.
“I’m fascinated by the rich heritage of Hennessy, a household name behind which artisans have spent hundreds of years creating this special cognac,” says Kim Jones. “Storytelling is very important for me regardless of what I’m designing or who I’m collaborating with – I want my designs to educate and inspire people through the stories they tell.”
HNY LOW BY KIM JONES: A UNIQUE LIMITED EDITION FASHION ITEM
Designed by Kim Jones and crafted in an LVMHowned shoe factory in Italy, the limited edition HNY Low by Kim Jones is inspired by early basketball shoes. It is made of a light cognac-colored nubuck leather, a material that takes on the patina of time, a reference to the precious eaux-de-vie.
Contrasting with the classic upper, a technical sole in tonal grooved rubber features an imprint of cognac vines and the Hennessy X.O x Kim Jones logo on its underside, while the initials KJ and the Hennessy bras armé emblem discreetly adorn the heel.
“I wanted it to be elevated and chic, to reflect both the long heritage of cognac and my own design values,” says the designer, who also transposed the curves of the Hennessy X.O bottle onto the sneaker. “I wanted it to
feel like you’re almost looking into the bottle. It’s a glass of cognac in sneaker form.”
True to the sneakerhead aesthetic, Kim Jones made packaging a part of the overall experience. Each pair of HNY Low by Kim Jones comes sheathed in cotton dust bags bound by a high-end drawstring, a shape recalling bottles that used to be wrapped in thick paper during travel. The sneakers are presented in an oak box that revisits the barrels used to age the eaux-de-vie, its wavy top echoing the plateau for the Hennessy X.O Masterpiece designed by Kim Jones.
Retailing at a suggested price of 650 euros, the HNY Low by Kim Jones will dropped in March 2023 in partnership with HBX as the global exclusive online retail partner, and in selected retail spaces.
WHERE COGNAC MEETS COUTURE: THE HENNESSY X.O MASTERPIECE AND HENNESSY X.O
LIMITED EDITION DESIGNED BY KIM JONES
Designed exclusively for Hennessy by Kim Jones, produced using 3D printing technology, and finished by hand, the sculptural Hennessy X.O Masterpiece has been produced in only 200 examples. The decanter demonstrates how humanity and technology can work together to create something unique, “like a piece of bespoke couture for a bottle,” the designer notes.
The Hennessy X.O Masterpiece draws inspiration from the making of Hennessy X.O, an art perfected by eight generations of master blenders. A specially developed titanium casing entirely encapsulates the bottle like an architectural second skin. Its twisting folds evoke both the couture technique of draping and the way in which, at the turn of the 20th century, Hennessy bottles were carefully hand-enveloped in tissue paper as a way of protecting their fragile parchment paper labels. Its base, an undulating oak plateau, nods to the barrels used to age eaux-de-vie that would eventually be blended to create Hennessy X.O.
While the bottle is entirely obscured from view, the cognac can be extracted using the fusil designed by Kim Jones, an
elegant and playful ritual to serve a glass of the Hennessy X.O blend. As a finishing touch, the decanter itself has been dipped in gradient colors, an effect inspired by the shades of the different eaux-de-vie selected by the master blender to compose Hennessy X.O.
Says Kim Jones: “When I saw how the vintage Hennessy bottles were wrapped, it spoke volumes to me about how precious each one is, and how they were handled. I was particularly touched by their history, and the sense of how generations have dedicated their time to making each step of the process better and better. That same process also holds true with fashion.”
The third element of the collaboration is the Hennessy X.O Limited Edition ‘ready-to-wear’ version of the decanter specially imagined by Kim Jones. The Hennessy X.O bottle is encased in an aluminum second skin, its structure showcasing the signature shape of the bottle while evoking a couture silhouette. A true representation of the merger of fashion and culture with excellence and legacy, the limited edition bottle is the final piece of the Hennessy X.O x Kim Jones partnership.

To support the White Band Collection, Davidoff will re-release three iconic White Band formats this year as limited editions. These limited editions will be highly sought after by collectors and aficionados around the world.
Lora Drasner
By Margaret Bastic LuceShe is the definition of brilliance, in more ways than one. I’ve given Lora the nickname “Rapunzel,” largely due to her beautiful blonde hair, but also because, like her flowing locks, joy and kindness emanate from her presence. Her love for the world and the people and creatures in it shines through her philanthropic pursuits—of which there are almost too many to name.
Lora’s interests run the gamut. She is the CEO of a now six-year-old company called Doctors Kline + Green, featuring breakthrough, patented nail products. Serving as the managing director for Three Seasons Capital, she assists in the management of investments in cancer drug development, artificial intelligence devices in ophthalmology, and weapons training.
There is perhaps no better match for Lora’s generous disposition than her role as the director of giving at the Drasner Family Foundation, offering support for organizations like the American Ballet Theatre and the Central Park Conservancy.
It’s obvious that Lora isn’t a mindless giver of her time and resources. Instead, she cherry-picks opportunities that, oftentimes, strike a chord with a version of her past self. As a former 12-year ballet dancer, Lora is an avid patron of Ballet Palm Beach and its students. She says she is “still touched” every time she watches a
performance of Swan Lake.
With a soft spot for animals and women-run initiatives, Lora’s other charitable contributions include work at Big Dog Ranch Rescue, as well as Dress For Success. Here, she mentors at-risk, high-achieving high school girls. Lora explains, “There are so many negative influences pulling adolescents in all different directions and we want to make sure they stay on the right path and achieve their goals. Women of Tomorrow is about empowering and embracing women, and also offering scholarships.”
Lora is no stranger to the creative world, having her piano debut at Carnegie Hall in 2010, a background in modeling, an affinity for fashion, and—since moving to Palm Beach—all things bright, flowy, and pants-less. She embodies the “less is more” approach to beauty and style, minus her penchant for jewelry and impressive personal collection of Graff, Van Cleef, Bulgari, and Buccellati.
Nestled in Wellington, Lora and her husband, Fred enjoy their nature-surrounded home. The area is ideal for their English yellow labrador retriever, Windsor. Lora says, “I have found that people with animals are much more grounded and real.”
While that could be the secret to Lora’s refreshing demeanor, it is also likely a credit to her life-long commitment to never forget her roots and always practice gratitude—no matter where the journey of life takes her.

ACUPUNCTURE FOR ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION?
By Dr. Amy Lewis, D.Ac., Dipl. AcAcupuncture and Eastern Medicine have been in use for thousands of years and are recognized by the World Health Organization as some of the most common forms of traditional medicine worldwide (1). These healing practices differ from Western medicine in their approach to physical and emotional issues. In Eastern Medicine, the focus is on identifying the root cause of disease rather than treating symptoms alone. Mental health problems such as depression and anxiety can have multiple causes, ranging from biochemical imbalances and allergies to physical or emotional trauma.
When working with patients experiencing mental health challenges, we remind them that every symptom has an underlying cause. Anxiety, for instance, can manifest as heart palpitations, fatigue, or other physical symptoms, while depression can result in feelings of irritability, anger, or even physical pain. Eastern Medicine doesn’t distinguish between “emotional” and “physical” symptoms since they’re all interconnected. Every symptom we experience has an impact on the whole body.
How exactly does acupuncture and Eastern Medicine help heal issues related to mental health? To treat these issues, acupuncturists
begin by identifying the possible causes through a thorough intake process. The practitioner will ask comprehensive questions about a patient’s health history, including physical and emotional trauma, and current conditions that might be contributing to the symptoms. In addition, we examine the tongue and pulse to identify any issues that have been present for a long time, as well as more recent concerns. After this initial evaluation, a treatment plan will be developed, which may include acupuncture, herbal medicine, and dietary adjustments.
How does a patient know if acupuncture is “working?” One of the benefits of acupuncture is that it encourages patients to become more self-aware of their bodies and to observe objective changes over time. Keeping track of specific symptoms, such as fatigue, headaches, or irritability, can be useful in determining how well the treatment is working. A good practitioner will work with patients to identify changes in frequency, intensity, and duration of each symptom. If a patient is having trouble falling asleep, for example, and acupuncture treatment results in an improvement in sleep patterns, we would identify that symptom (insomnia) as moving in the right direction.
It’s important to be open and honest with your practitioner throughout the process, as this allows for adjustments to the treatment plan to be made. Although acupuncture is not a quick fix, and it may take some time to see the benefits, it can be an effective alternative or complimentary treatment to traditional pharmaceuticals. Furthermore, because Eastern Medicine takes a holistic approach, acupuncture can also be used to address other health concerns at the same time.
Bottom line, acupuncture and Eastern Medicine can be a valuable tool for anyone struggling with mental health challenges. Whether you are looking for a safe and effective alternative to pharmaceuticals or if you are hoping to improve the effectiveness of your medication acupuncture can help. With its focus on addressing the root cause of disease, it offers a safe and effective alternative to conventional Western medicine. And the best part of working with an acupuncturist? They can also address your other health concerns at the same time - it’s an entire system of medicine and works on your whole body!
Dear Marci,
The Power of Food For Mental Health
by Marci MoreauI want to know more about the connection between better food and better mental health. My daughter has struggled with depression and anxiety for most of her life. She once told me, “ I just want to remember what it feels to be happy, even if it is only for a few minutes.” It’s hard for my family to watch someone we love live in this cycle of pain. It hurts all of us. How can food help?
Sad and Searching for Answers
Dear Sad and Searching for Answers,
Your question comes at a very pertinent time. May is Mental Health Awareness Month and now, more than ever, we need to reflect, acknowledge, and understand the significant impact of mental illness. We also need to reduce the stigma, facilitate better treatments and recovery, and we definitely need to make food a part of the treatment plan.
I believe, at this moment, the world is experiencing a mental health crisis.
Depression, anxiety, and PTSD are at an all time high, suicide rates are on the upsurge, and too many people are suffering from the addictions and comorbid manifestations that often accompany mental illness.
And more, the fall out extends to family, friends, and the network of professionals on the front lines, with the contagion effect of mental illness continuing to ripple through too many lives. In order to be healthy and well, we need to address this crisis now, and we need to do better. After all, there is no health without mental health.
And, yes, yes, yes, I believe food can help!
I’ve had to believe. I grew up in a time when there was not awareness for mental health issues, like Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, (OCD), Anxiety and Panic Disorders, Depression, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Actually, any topic related to mental illness was not talked about, at least not in a positive way, and certainly nobody had a therapist.
So I did my best to hide my rituals of having to do certain things before I walked out of a room, and then ignore my thoughts that were telling me if I didn’t touch the wall three times I would die, or worse, someone I loved would die, and it would be my fault, because that is how OCD talks to you.
Most of the time my thoughts got the best of me. Then, of course, came the panic attacks, which were much worse whenever I was away from home. Something as seemingly normal as going to watch a basketball game at my high school turned into a night of horror for me.
I’d sit in the stands, on high alert, scanning the room for the exit because i needed to know I could escape, but that still wasn’t enough to make the anxiety go away. My chest would tighten, my heart race, and I felt like I was suffocating, but I sat there, smiling, trying to figure out how to get air into my lungs, so nobody would know the battle going on inside of me.
By the time I got home I was depleted and exhausted but could never fall asleep. There was just too much to worry about. So when my mother came in the room to check and see if my sister and I were sleeping, I laid there quietly, with my eyes closed, until she turned off the lights and left. I didn’t want her to know either.
I remember the day I read an article about Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and the depression and anxiety that accompanies it; putting a name to my struggles made me feel more normal and less like a freak. To know all of this was happening because of a discrepancy between my brain and my body was a huge relief because maybe I could feel better.
I started doing research and eventually found some information about food and mental illness. I started to eat better and I noticed I felt differently when I ate certain things. I was less anxious, and less stressed, and the chatter of OCD was much quieter. It’s what I have been doing for years and I never told anybody.
Nutritional Psychology brings more power to treatment for mental health.
Today we call it nutritional psychology but I like to call it exactly what it is…The Power of Food. Either way emerging research is exploring the impact of food on the brain, and on our mental health status. Science is examining the various components of our diet and finding connections between food with an optimal nutritional profile and healthier brains.
It’s like a perfect storm of health and wellness. The research shows certain foods can decrease anxiety, depression, and PTSD…This is life changing because this is lifesaving for so many people! This is how food can help.
EAT CLEAN
What I’ve learned from studying and researching food, is that the things our bodies need most are provided for us, naturally. And the less we do to food, the better it is for us. This means starting with food grown in soil that is clean and cultivated, naturally, not genetically modified, and avoiding foods that are treated with chemicals and pesticides.
In other words – eating whole, clean, organic whenever possible. Including foods with the most protective elements, and omitting processed, refined, and manufactured food with harmful ingredients, is the best formula to keep our body and mind functioning the way nature intended. Processed foods increase inflammation and wreak havoc on our gut and can be a source for anxiety and depression, so cleaner food means the natural rhythms, processes, and systems in our body function more effectively.
TAKE CARE OF YOUR GUT
The gut-brain axis is the communication network for our gut and our brain. It is how our gut talks to our brain, and this communication originates in our gut microbiome, which refers to the world of bacteria, viruses, fungi and all living things that live in our intestines.
When all of these things are balanced, through chemical messengers called neurotransmitters, our gut can communicate better, and we have a healthy gut and a healthier mind. Better food is the best frontline defense for a more well balanced gut.
Some of the foods that promote better gut-brain health and help to regulate neurotransmitter production are things like quinoa, grapes, salmon, mushrooms, dark chocolate, foods with probiotic, like kefir, yogurt and fermented foods.
FOCUS ON BRAIN HEALTHY FOODS, INCLUDE PROTEIN, FALL IN LOVE WITH PLANTS
Include the complex carbs and green leafy greens, lean proteins, especially fatty fish with omega-3’s, and berries with flavonoids. All are crucial for the proper functioning of our gut, and our brain and nervous system, with the latest research also suggesting levels of protection from cognitive decline. Lean protein will also help stabilize our blood sugar levels and regulate mood, and anything with magnesium will help curb anxiety.
HYDRATE WITH WATER, MOVE, FIND YOUR SWEET SPOT
Hydration is crucial for our mental health, so much so, even mild dehydration can decrease our dopamine and serotonin levels, putting us at risk for depression and anxiety. Everyone should be drinking half of their body weight in ounces of water, every day, most especially individuals suffering with mental health issues.
And including exercise can help to improve mental health because every time we move, our body releases endorphins and other natural feel good brain chemicals to reduce depression, anxiety and regulate mood. Exercise and a healthier nutritional platform is also the best way to find our sweet spot – that perfect place of optimal weight, health and happiness for our body and mind.
I will always believe there is hope and opportunity to treat e ven the most serious mental health issues.
Historically people have always endured pain and trauma, and still walked away with a lot of good stuff, like resilience, fortitude and new strengths and abilities. You see, our bodies react a certain way to food, all of it our cells, our neurotransmitters, every single system. And when we put the right food into our body, we make it stronger, and healthier, both physically and mentally.
Recovery is real. In the mental health world we call this post traumatic growth. And with the right supports in place this process is even more transformative. Food is definitely one of those right supports, and it needs to become part of the treatment plan, and yes, it most definitely helps.

Probiotic Beauty and Microbiome Friendly Skincare… How to Maintain Healthy Skin Organically.
By Steven RosenfeldFor years, nutrition experts and whole-body health advocates have recognized the power of probiotics on the digestive and immune systems. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) has published research on the benefits of probiotics for the skin, when consumed in foods like yogurt, kefir or kimchi and in supplement form.
Dermatologists and scientists researching topical probiotics have concluded that probiotic creams and serums are highly effective in treating skin conditions including acne, rosacea, eczema and psoriasis. In addition, they have found that when used topically, probiotics offer barrier protection to the skin and also have a calming effect on all skin types. Topical probiotics can treat a wide range of skin conditions effectively and safely because they work in harmony with the skin’s natural ability to heal. These products are effective in helping balance the skin microbiome, creating a healthier environment, while decreasing skin sensitivity, redness and inflammation.
Human skin plays host to trillions of bacteria, some helpful and some harmful. A healthy level of good bacteria is essential to our skin health. The outer layer of our skin is our “first responder” against infection, inflammation and disease.
By using a precisely formulated complex of probiotics, peptides and antioxidant plant stem cells Columbia SkinCare probiotic products help balance the skin microflora and primes the skin to receive nourishment. These products rely on the most powerful and effective active ingredients available, derived from only the highest quality natural sources. The unique formulations are the new age-defying holy grail.
Our natural complex of beneficial probiotics, botanicals and peptides will keep the bacteria in and on your skin balanced by promoting “good bacteria” at the expense of “bad bacteria.” The result? The renewal of skin cells is naturally stimulated and accelerated, making the skin function more efficiently and promoting more rapid cell turnover to mimic the activity of younger skin.
Topical probiotics offer a perfect complement to any facial service for any skin type. This enhancement offers a healthy dose of probiotics to the skin’s microbiome, to rebalance and restore the skin’s natural bacterial environment, which is the key to beautiful skin.
What is the skin’s “microbiome”? The outer layer of the skin is literally an ecosystem made of 10 trillion human cells and nearly 100 trillion bacterial cells. In science, we call this the skin’s “microbiome,” or the community of bacteria that serve as your skin’s first line of protection. The microbiome is also directly related to the health and balance of the skin’s immune system.
Our modern lifestyle, unhealthy eating habits, environmental stressors can create an imbalance in this bacterial universe, which can lead to skin issues such as inflammation, chronic breakouts, dryness and the appearance of aging skin. Using probiotics on the skin is a natural choice to anyone wanting to improve and sustain the health and well-being of the skin.
Using quality topical natural skincare products is important, but what you put on your skin works hand in hand with a holistic approach to inner health. Even with the benefits of a ground-breaking probiotic skincare product, it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle by following these tips:
YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT
Limit sugar intake, avoid processed foods and focus on good-for-you fats like olive oil and coconut oil, instead of refined fats. Take the time to prepare healthy meals with fresh, seasonal, organic ingredients.
A RESTORATIVE SLEEP
Getting enough sleep—eight hours is recommended—is essential for optimal functioning of the heart and mind.
According to the National Sleep Foundation (NSF), getting inadequate sleep on a regular basis affects your health, memory and mood.
MANAGE YOUR STRESS
Learn to manage stress through meditation, yoga, simple breathing practices and a positive attitude. Optimism builds our resilience, and helps us cope with stress.
WORK OUT!
Even a 20-minute walk every day, to get your heart rate up, will have a tremendous impact on your health. Or get moving with mindful exercises like yoga, pilates, tai chi and others.
Mushrooms for Wellness TIPS TO BOOST YOUR HEALTH
By Lexi ReichFungi may just be the future of the wellness world. While mushrooms have been consumed for thousands of years, health enthusiasts continue to uncover the medicinal benefits that various mushroom varieties offer.
Stepfanie Romine, health coach and author of Cooking with Healing Mushrooms, spent years studying the power of mushrooms in Asheville before writing her guide to integrating medicinal and functional mushrooms into one’s daily life. With the influx in popularity and claims to mushrooms as a “quick fix,” Romine warns readers to be patient in their herbal healing journey.
“No single herb, mushroom or supplement is a cure-all,” she says. “Don’t expect major changes to happen overnight, and with any wellness or health regimen, you still have to put in the work. If you’re taking cordyceps for stress but making no effort to reduce or manage the overwhelm you’re experiencing, you can’t expect your stress to simply disappear. As with herbs, supplements or even pharmaceuticals, you need to do your part to deal with the root cause of your issues, not simply treat the symptoms.”
However, Romine is still a huge advocate for integrating fungi to boost natural health, and has a wealth of knowledge to share when it comes to getting started.
WHEN WERE YOU FIRST INTRODUCED TO MUSHROOMS?
“I was first introduced to mushrooms when I lived in South Korea back in 2005. Then in 2012, my husband and I moved to the mountains of North Carolina to prioritize healthy living. A temperate rainforest with unparalleled biodiversity, Asheville and the surrounding area is a hot spot for natural health, and I dove right in, learning about herbal medicine, foraging for plants and mushrooms and soaking up as much information about the natural world as possible. Having followed a plant-based diet since 2010, I felt drawn to natural and herbal medicine, including the healing power of mushrooms. I actually worked for an herbal supplements company for several years, where I spent a year working on education and marketing for a product launch that combined herbs and mushrooms. Now I live in Berlin, Germany, but I still cook healthy, seasonal, plantbased meals (with plenty of medicinal mushrooms) to fuel my active life and husband’s long-distance road cycling.”
WHAT ARE THE KEY BENEFITS OF MUSHROOMS?
“If you’re new to mushrooms, start by picking an area of health to support. Reishi is called the mushroom of immortality, and it’s a tonic and adaptogen (meaning it supports your stress response). Reishi is a good one for immune health, sleep and overall longevity. Chaga and turkey tail are popular for immune support as well. If you’re an athlete or want an energy boost, try cordyceps. Yes, that’s the mushroom from The Last of Us, but it won’t turn you into a zombie. It’s an adaptogen that’s been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine — and promotes a healthy sex drive. If you’re at the supermarket, reach for shiitake mushrooms. They’re brimming with nutritional as well as immune benefits.
Mushrooms are best-known for their immunosupportive qualities, but different species have different benefits. Supplements like tinctures or capsules contain higher doses that are more potent and precise, but cooking with mushrooms is an easy way to reap their benefits.”
WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT TO KNOW WHEN GETTING STARTED?
“In choosing mushroom extracts or tinctures, quality matters. Look for reputable brands, and shop at stores like your local co-op or other ‘healthy’ supermarkets that have their own set of standards for any products they carry. This will help you weed out the less reputable companies. Focus on brands that use mostly fruiting bodies.
Eating mushrooms as part of a healthy, whole foods diet is like squirreling away $20 from each paycheck you earn. It doesn’t take much effort but builds up over time. However, if you’re in debt or close to retirement, those $20 contributions won’t make much of a dent in your debt or be enough to live on in your later years.
If you’re interested in taking mushrooms therapeutically, such as in the doses used in clinical studies, talk to a naturopath or registered dietitian. You can have too much of a good thing. If you ate enough shiitakes, for example, to reach the clinical therapeutic dose of lentinan, you’d end up with a major bellyache — and some unsavory GI side effects.
While I firmly believe in the healing power of mushrooms, please know that these mushrooms aren’t magic. Some may have noticeable effects the first time you consume them, but most take a while. I felt calmer the first time I took reishi tincture, for example, but I’ve never noticed any changes in my body from eating maitake or shiitake, other than not getting sick all winter (which could be attributed to any number of health-preserving measures I take). Just as you need to take an entire course of antibiotics, you also need to give holistic treatments time to take effect. How long and how much are questions you should discuss with your health care team.”

“Modern Meets Moody”
This project was an entire main floor renovation for a family home in Southern North Carolina. The project was a study on elegantly combining modern global design with classic, traditional elements to create an eclectic, but understated space fit for a young family.
Kelley Lentini and Berkeley Minkhorst co-founders of House of Nomad create their signature modern global aesthetic by layering and mixing patterns and textiles. Through their extensive travels they weave in hand-selected finds.
The kitchen was the heart of this project and to expand on the family’s living space, designers Berkeley Minkhorst and Kelley Lentini completely renovated the kitchen area, creating a second island for entertaining (and for the kids to do homework and have an after school snack). The attached wine cellar was also transformed into a mudroom, but leaving the weathered brick flooring to keep that lived-in look & created a unique, textural moment.
Family-friendly materials were crucial in the design choices - notably Moroccan Zellige Tile in the kitchen paired with a White Vien Eternal Calacatta Black Quartz. Other notable design elements include House of Nomad’s in-house designed “Jet Lag” grass cloth wallpaper in the mudroom and custom dining chairs in their black “Jet Lag” pattern. The muted tones seen throughout the home paired with natural materials from pieces sourced by the designers from around the world create a fresh and timeless feeling in every room.

CULTURE
Brushstrokes of Brilliance
AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE AMERICAN PAINTER AND HER ETHEREAL APROACH TO THE CANVAS.
By Katelyn RuttMany spend a lifetime searching for the thing that sets their soul on fire. For Sara Pittman, the answer has always been clear: An open studio, a brush, and a blank canvas. The artist has enveloped herself in the world of non-representational painting for seven years, finding its freedom as a kind of personal meditation.
“I often begin by laying my canvases flat on the ground and walk around them, which can feel ceremonial,” Pittman says. “I pour acrylic paints and inks and let the colors collide. I scribble and paint feverishly, and I get lost in the movement of pouring.”
Pittman adds that this method typically brings clarity on the direction of the piece. From there, her journey centers around technique as she maps out shapes, marks, and palettes with oil paint.
“From a stark canvas to a chaotic mess of color, I eventually find my way to resolution and suddenly am reminded of the magic of painting,” Pittman says. “Sometimes it’s a failure, but mostly I feel giddy about what has poured out of me.”
No matter what, the creative follows one foundational motto: “Paint now and figure the rest out later.” To Pittman, the process is about listening to her intuition, paying attention to what excites her, and remaining open to the unknown.
“This form of expressionism has brought so much excitement into
my life because I never know how a piece will end up,” Pittman says. “Every day feels new.”
Anne Neilson Fine Art (ANFA), where Pittman’s work is on display, has established a strong partnership with the artist. Gallery Director Logan Sutton recalls that she was in the midst of a busy gallery move when she connected with Pittman—and was so moved by her work that she knew she had to reach out.
“She traveled to Charlotte and seeing the work in person was akin to stepping into a Rothko Room,” Sutton says. “You’re instantly moved. You feel an energy throughout your body, mind, and soul. The radiance of her work translates directly from who she is as a human being as well. Now I can’t and don’t want to imagine ANFA without having her work on display.”
In awe of the way Pittman’s paintings draw in viewers, Sutton says it’s not uncommon to be left with a parting sense of peace, clarity, and freedom.
“To collect one of Sara Pittman’s paintings would mean more than just a piece to place on the wall,” Sutton says. “It is a true gift, not only because of the emotional connection, but also because of Sara’s profound intentions when creating each painting. Collecting her work is curating your personal story and recognizing your beauty and power within.”
Perhaps the most beautiful element of the artist’s creative process? The ability to create distinct meaning behind each piece, even if it means stepping into the unknown.
“Paint what excites you, even if it’s far removed from what you have created in the past,” Pittman says. “Our voice always finds its way from our hearts to our hands, and always to the canvas. Even as you evolve, bits and pieces of your style weave themselves through the new work. Don’t be afraid. Just paint.”
As she moves into the future, the artist says she is excited to continue developing her body of work, as well as participate in a Denver group show at Walker Fine Art later this year. The show will feature brand new pieces from Pittman and five other artists who are all working in different mediums.
“There is truly nothing more enthralling than seeing my work hanging on a beautiful gallery wall amongst those I’m most inspired by,” Pittman says. “That is my biggest reward of all.”

Kai Griffin: Beautiful Paradox
By Nelia VeranoIf the law of opposites involves choosing an unorthodox path, then visual artist Kai Griffin’s work could serve as the definitive example.
At least, this is one way to understand his creative process that results in colorful, explosive-like works. Kai, who graduated with a BFA from Winthrop University in 2022, defines himself as an elder millennial, a term he finds both humbling and humorous, especially being surrounded by classmates who are from an entirely different generation. “I see where the history, culture, and nuances of life from the 80’s and 90’s meet the millennium, and how people and technology have grown and evolved across the century line. I’ve also witnessed artistic processes and materials declared dead twice in my lifetime—and then return again,” Kai adds.
The fundamental basis for Kai’s work uses opposing paradigms and divergent materials, a vision that was birthed from his intensive curiosity for just about everything the world has to offer, along with a personal desire to do things his own way. Working in the beauty industry in tandem with the fitness and wellness industry, Kai’s interesting range of life experiences has afforded him a sense of risk-taking that has manifested in art that is all his own. Using tried and true materials and methods with innovative technology, his work borders on an unexpected outrageousness that is both strikingly beautiful and strangely intriguing. The end result offers a total collision of materials and genres that challenge the viewer to go beyond their understandings of how these materials are typically used. Even further, that juxtaposition offers an enchanting lure—an experience that is the bi-product of Kai’s use of such unexpected amalgamations of material. His chosen mediums, from wood and metal to resin and lucite, are manipulated using laser cutting and etching, CNC routers, and digital methods, producing ingenious, three-dimensional compositions.
Kai is clear that his intent is not to reinvent the wheel, but rather, do simple things really, really well. He notes, “I take, for example, the 600 year-old technique of one-point linear perspective and flip it on its head by utilizing modern materials and processes. Cast acrylic, CNC routers, and laser cutters were not around centuries ago; combining these with techniques from antiquity serves as my nod to the classical and a contribution to the contemporary. While I have an ‘almost’ obsessive need for technical precision and unparalleled quality, at the end of the day my works must be viscerally beautiful— sublime, if you will.”
It is with a rigorous, disciplined intensity that Kai creates, exploring binary couplings and opposing relationships between elements—light and shadow, translucency and opacity, 3 dimensional and 2 dimensional—and the list goes on. These contrasts ring true to the age-old adage that opposites really do attract.

by Kelli Delaney Kot @KDHamptonsSTEP INSIDE CATHY B. GRAHAM'S FLOWER-FILLED WORLD OF BRILLIANT BOUQUETS, WATERCOLOR ARTWORK, AND STEP-BY- STEP GUIDES TO CREATING DELIGHTFUL TABLE SETTINGS AND FLORAL DESIGNS.
Celebrated flower aficionado and award-winning fashion artist and illustrator Cathy B. Graham inspires and entertains with her second beautiful book, Full Bloom - an exquisitely produced visual compendium of her fantastical illustrations, fresh floral designs and exuberant entertaining ideas. The new coffee table tome follows Graham’s first book, Second Bloom, which has become one of the most coveted books on the artistry of floral design in recent years, engaging both novice enthusiasts and seasoned aesthetes alike. Graham's uniquely personal point of view on the subject of flowers has helped readers rethink the influence and joy that incorporating flowers into one’s personal life can bring, whether it’s through a single blossom or a billowing arrangement.
For decades, at-home entertaining has been second nature to Graham, hosting both informal and formal events with the same attention to detail and with aplomb. From "casual Saturday night suppers with neighborhood friends to more august dinners, including cultural influencers and titans of industry — and often a mix of both” at her home on New York’s Upper East Side, Graham continues to redefine the rules of entertaining. “Creatively dressed
table and beautiful flowers can be a conversation starter and ultimately serve as a bridge to connect one and all,” she shares.
In her second book, Full Bloom, Graham distills the secrets of her educated eye for both newfound friends, as well as floral aficionados. Graham is a visual virtuoso of flowers, having worked on projects with the late floral designer and event empresario Robert Isabell, noted for his parties and galas, each of which was over the top and one of a kind. Coupled with her inspiring social media posts (@ cathybgraham), popular live talks, floral demonstrations, and partnerships with non-profit organizations, Graham has become an authoritative voice bridging art and flowers with her signature grace and humor. Cathy shares her five top tips for spring arrangements with LUX flower lovers below.
1. When arranging with tulips, remove almost all the leaves. It not only looks prettier when they open but it makes the stems look better in the vase and they’re easier to arrange with other flowers this way. It does require using more tulips, but the more the better! Remember that tulips continue growing when cut and in water so they may need extra snip the next day.
2. If you are feeling ambitious, take bok choy or cabbage leaves and secure them around the outside of a glass vase with nylon thread and glue dots as a pretty trick to hide stems and branches. Remember to always cut your stems at an angle for best hydration.
3. I love to create my own spring garden as a table centerpiece, or along a mantle. I do this using various spring flowers in single stem bud vases, small stem vases, and long stem vases (you can find these at Two’s Company or Jamali Floral & Garden Supplies). Mix various spring blooms like hyacinths, grape hyacinths, lily of the valley, pansies, daffodils, and fritillaria, among others!
4. For a larger spring arrangement, I like to use tulipieres (shop enchantedhome.com) which come in a variety of designs and patterns. Blue and white is traditional, but I prefer simple white ceramic ones. They’re a perfect way to display the beauty of tulips. Don’t be afraid to mix in other spring flowers as well!
5. Instead of glass vases, terracotta pots and woven baskets lined with a plastic liner (shop on Amazon) look charming filled with a mix of spring flowers.
❀ Simple white tulips with ranunculus in Clooney yellow.
❀ Blues, lavender, and a bit of pink: I love to create this combo with anemones, lilacs, and purple and white variegated ranunculus.
❀ Pinks, peach, pale yellow, and white.
❀ All white lily of the valley with white ranunculus, green viburnum, white tulips, hyacinths, and white lilac.
The Art of the Handwritten Note
By Katelyn RuttIN AN ERA OF DIGITAL COMMUNICATION, ARZBERGER CONTINUES
TO POWER ITS PRESSES WITH THE RIGOR, VISION, AND WORLD-CLASS CRAFTSMANSHIP
THAT HAS RENDERED IT TIMELESS FOR MORE THAN 100 YEARS
handwritten note is much more than a piece of paper. Penned with a sense of permanence, it is perhaps one of the most beautiful, tangible, and raw manifestations of human connection.
“There is nothing that matches the excitement of opening a piece of hand-inscribed stationery,” Design Director Muriel DeLaPaz says. “It can be treasured, saved, read, re-read, and passed down generations.”
Arzberger takes a thoughtful approach to the creative process that is tailored to the needs, desires, and aesthetic of each unique client. Instead of operating as a mass-printer, the stationer regards each step as a delicate art form that is designed to be
“We do this by offering a vast toolbox of papers, inks, and designs—some cutting-edge and others dating back to the early 1900s,” DeLaPaz says. “We work with several calligraphers to create hand-lettered notes, and partner with artists to create custom monograms and one-of-a-kind pieces.”
Paper, DeLaPaz explains, is a category of the design process that has greatly expanded over the decades. In addition to featuring paper and envelope liners from around the world, the stationer also mills Arzberger-watermarked, FSC-certified paper in white and ecru with an unmatched quality of thickness.
“The paper choice, which was previously only offered in white or ecru, is very impactful and is now flooded with beautiful colored paper options,” DeLaPaz says. “We see marvelous blues and greens running through the presses daily.”
The stationer’s attention to detail extends as far as the style of available liners offered to clients.
“Often, it is the first thing a recipient notices, especially if a bold pattern or unique is selected,” DeLaPaz says. “It can truly help set
the tone of a note. Having multiple liners within a stationery set allows the message of each note to be appropriately matched.”
One might utilize a soft tissue liner for a bereavement note, or a vibrant design to accompany celebratory stationery. Liners are adhered by hand and inspected by Arzberger’s skilled team before each send-out.
As for the company’s true bread and butter? The answer lies in the origins of its more than 100-year-old heritage.
“Engraving is our original print method and has a treasured spot in our business, “ DeLaPaz says. “We believe that fine stationery is meant to be engraved. As a result of its depth, richness and raised texture, engraving produces the clearest, most beautiful graphic reproduction.”
In an engraving process, a piece of paper is hand-fed into an Arzberger press and stamped by a copper or steel metal plate that is etched with text or artwork. For more timeless motifs such as a family crest, DeLaPaz says the team will use a steel die for a deeper etched look.
No matter the project, whether a wedding invitation, birth announcement, or stationery for a new business, Arzberger is intentional about connection—finding fulfillment in the legacy of craftsmanship and maintaining decades-long relationships with clients throughout the many stages of life.
“It’s the thing that brings us the most joy,” DeLaPaz says. “Knowing we are a small part of making someone’s day, the joining of families, and the celebration of a new life or a life well-lived. It is a true honor.”

THE CREATIVE DUO OF TAPP BEAUTY AND THEIR SPIRITED APPROACH TO LIFE, HOME, AND DESIGN.
By Katelyn RuttThe fashion photographer is Anastasiia Terentieva
The house photographer is Denise Davis
With its striking patterns, contrasting hues, and tailored fit, Tapp Beautiful is unique in more ways than one. The founders, each with a colorful history in the arts, exude what it means to be an innovative designer—with pizazz to boot.
Bobbie Beautiful and Charlton Alicea-Tapp, aka Cha Cha, began dreaming up their next big idea during the pandemic. As a former champion ballroom dancer, beauty aficionado, and the creator of Tapp New York, a 1990s brand featured in the likes of Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstrom, Charlton is well acquainted with the industry. Coupled with Bobbie’s home design background and successful clothing company—years ago having Bergdorf Goodman as his first-ever client—the collaboration was a match made in heaven.
So while artists came out of retirement to paint and authors returned to their forgotten novels, the duo began to compile fabrics. Charlton says Bobbie presented him with a selection of prints one afternoon during the initial quarantine.
“He said that he was thinking about making some clothes again but only wanted to do it together,” Charlton says. “Tapp Beautiful has now been three years in the making. At first we thought about doing small runs, 12 of this and 12 of that. Then the fabrics and the designs kept rushing in and I knew we had
enough ideas to make one-of-a-kinds.”
Bobbie says that the concept was inspired by his former clothing line, featuring combinations of curated prints that were oftentimes reversible. The creative, with an innate eye for beauty, adds that he’s “always loved the gimmick” of a two-for-one piece.
The finalized concept? Wearable art, where no two pieces are identical. The pair’s designs include breezy dresses, structured pantsuits, and knee-length dresses with strong collars.
“The silhouettes are timeless and the prints and fabrics will stand the test of time,” Charlton says. “It’s hard to put Tapp Beautiful into trends. Picasso is not just a trend, and a Monet will live on forever.”
Together, the designers are complementing forces of nature. Charlton describes their working relationship like “magic, where one presents initial concepts and the other will begin to fill in the details.
Their bold approach to life extends into the home, where many of their ideas come to life in a kaleidoscope of color. Charlton describes their blended aesthetic as “exuberant” and like“stepping into Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.”
“I’ve always been a lover of kitsch and subtle humor which is often reflected in many of the things we design,” Bobbie says. “We have a large vintage portrait canvas of Jackie Onassis in a thick gold frame and a set of life-sized coiffed poodles originally used as store displays in the 50s.”
There’s goldfish wallpaper on the ceiling and six different wallpapers in one bathroom. Stepping into their home, there’s no doubt that it serves as a vast pool of inspiration for the pair.
“There are definitely similarities, if not the exact same approach to interiors, fashion, and gardens,” Charlton says. “One thing that always rings true is that if you love it, surround yourself with it and you can never go wrong. The love for that something will be the glue that binds it all together.”
As for what’s ahead? The two prefer to keep things interesting. Bobbie had a stint in professional landscaping, and has reimagined many residential interiors. Charlton is a former Spartan runner, won Dancing with the Stars in Charlotte, and runs Tapp Beauty—formerly the Jeffre Scott Apothecary.
“I never ask myself what I want to do with my life,” Bobbie says. “I think more short-term and do what I like to do at that time. It always revolves around beauty.”
As for Tapp Beautiful, the path ahead will likely fork into men’s fashion. But the purpose remains the same for the inventive duo.
“Continuing to spread the gospel of beauty,” Charlton says. “A beautiful life is everyone’s birthright, just look inside and look around you. It’s always there waiting for you to take hold.”

A Twist on Tradition
AN EXCLUSIVE Q&A WITH THE INNOVATOR BEHIND THE AUSTRALIAN LUXURY BRIDAL LABEL MADE FOR RULE-BREAKERS.
By Katelyn RuttMotivated by her own challenges finding a non-traditional wedding dress, Kyha Scott set eyes on the runway—working to create a brand that softened the borders between bridal wear and fashion. After 12 years, major growth, and flagship stores in Melbourne, Sydney, and New York, there’s a lot on the horizon for KYHA Studios.
Scott’s brand features two fashion-forward labels: KYHA and Chosen by KYHA. The latter offers made-to-size and ready-to-wear wedding dresses and separates with dazzling fabrics and showstopping silhouettes. Her designs have been donned by a host of glamorous, unconventional brides including the likes of the Bachelor’s Laura Byrne.
We spoke with the founder and creative director for a LUX-exclusive look into her design process, favorite emerging bridal trend, an exciting launch, and more.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR LABEL?
“Modern minimalism meets considered maximalism is how I like to describe our creations.”
ARE THERE ANY SIMILARITIES BETWEEN YOUR DESIGN STYLE AND YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?
“There is definitely a similarity to my style. Our more effortless, relaxed pieces and tailored separates, even when they’re heavily embellished, are a strong reflection of my personal aesthetic.”
WHAT SETS YOU APART AS A DESIGNER?
“Consistently working to disrupt convention and remaining unflinchingly true to our core aesthetic.”
WHERE DO YOU GAIN INSPIRATION?
“Travel, travel and more travel. Seeing and experiencing new things. I love to immerse myself in new cultures and surroundings, and it’s such a strong source of inspiration for me. I also find meeting new and interesting people very inspiring. Understanding a different point of view and the world through others’ opinions and likes always fascinates me. When I wasn’t able to travel through the pandemic, as Australia had a travel ban for many months, I had to start looking at art and architecture to keep my creativity humming.”
COULD YOU WALK ME THROUGH YOUR DESIGN PROCESS FROM START TO FINISH?
STEP 1: “Every collection starts with a concept. It might be as simple as a graphic. In our recent New Wave collection, I was inspired by a lineal wave pattern I created and it was the basis for our beading. Or, it might be as nebulous as a city or beachscape. From there I build out. The wildest designs are at the beginning of my creative process, then I step out from there.”
STEP 2: “I intentionally design too many pieces and then work with the team to refine and narrow down. Naturally as the collections develop, some surprise me and exceed expectations, and others don’t. It has to spark excitement for it to become a part of the resolved collection.”
STEP 3: “The final line up is briefed into the development team and we spend several months developing and refining each style.”
STEP 4: “Once we have an approved fit and style, they are briefed to our makers for production.”
STEP 5: “Finally we shoot a campaign in a location that is always tethered to the theme of our collection. For maximum impact, we aim to launch with striking imagery captured by our deeply-respected partners.”
WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSON YOU’VE LEARNED IN YOUR TIME AS A DESIGNER?
“To trust myself and my instincts. Every time I move away from my gut, often due to a very practical reason, the outcomes almost always disappoint.”
AND THE GREATEST REWARD?
“The most rewarding part of being a designer is seeing my creative vision come to life—and creating pieces that are so meaningful for our customers.”
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BRIDAL WEAR TREND?
“Black lace is about to have a moment, and although I am not normally a lace person, I love that it’s a fresh take as a naked look. It’s totally different from the stylized 70s cut-outs we’ve seen dominating recently.”
WHAT’S NEXT?
“There are big things coming for our premium label, KYHA. I can’t say much, but I am excited and challenged by what’s on KYHA’s horizon. Expect to see more in January.”
The perfect island escape awaits.
Bermuda may feel like another world, but this idyllic getaway is just a two-hour flight from the East Coast. With wide-open spaces, pink-sand beaches and turquoise waters, Bermuda is ready to safely welcome you to her shores.
Isla Holbox Mexico’s Best Kept Secret
By Lexi ReichAs I approached the bustling port of Chiquilá, the scorching sun began its descent over the Gulf of Mexico. Just a 20-minute ferry ride away sat Isla Holbox, an island I had only recently learned about. It had been described as an untouched paradise – the new Tulum before its development boom. Once I reached the island after a long travel day, I caught a ride in an oversized golf cart that fumbled through muddy streets lined with sand and salty air. My hotel greeted me with cold juice and warm hospitality, sealing the day with a peace I didn’t realize I so desperately needed. I walked through the winding wooden bridges to my room, which was nestled above a beautiful mangrove garden. Little did I know what sort of weekend awaited me.
Isla Holbox is somewhat of a hidden gem in Mexico. While it’s grown in popularity over the years, the seaside oasis remains free of cars and high-rises, making it the ideal destination to escape city life. St. Somewhere was the perfect property to showcase all this quaint but colorful island had to offer. If you’re looking for white-sand beaches, bright blue water, diverse wildlife and a small-town feel, take this as your sign to book a trip to Holbox.
As Margaritaville and Karisma Hotels & Resorts’ newest venture, St. Somewhere’s distinct boho-chic style and open-air design make it a memorable stay. The unexpected culinary excellence and inspiring service only add to the experience. The boutique hotel offers 39 suites with seven
styles to choose from – including suites with private plunge pools or direct access to the main pool and swim-up bar. The colors and accents are inspired by the sea and greenery that surround the property, creating an intimate atmosphere to unwind in comfort and style.
The two on-site restaurants use seasonal ingredients to craft beach-side eats and choice ancestral dishes. The eclectic menus feature mixologist-inspired cocktails, fresh seafood, ceviche and other locally-inspired cuisine. As a community-first environment, ingredients are sourced directly from Mexican growers and artisans. And just a short taxi or bike ride away, various food stalls downtown are ready to serve.
Besides exploring St. Somewhere’s 3,000 feet of beachfront access — whether through kayaks, stand-up paddleboards or swimming — the three-island tour is a must. I was able to see Isla Pasion, Isla Pajaros and the Yalahau Lagoon on a guided boat tour, where resident flamingos, 35 species of nesting birds and a freshwater sinkhole perfect for soaking fought for best in show. At night, I got to witness bioluminescent waters — a bucket list item of mine prior to the trip. Isla Holbox is filled with natural wonders and promises to stay that way, as it’s protected by the Yum Balam Nature Reserve.
St. Somewhere is not all-inclusive. The property owners actually encourage guests to explore Holbox in all its glory, involving the island’s fishermen to taxi drivers, to help support the community. While its main draw is the bountiful outdoor playground, Holbox is also home to colorful street art, unique shopping nooks and highly-rated spa centers.
After an extended weekend, Isla Holbox’s allure became crystal clear. It’s a secluded paradise with all the luxuries of renowned beach destinations, but without the fuss. Speaking of, make sure to pack bug spray and shoes you don’t mind getting muddy if you’re visiting during wet season. To get to Isla Holbox, fly into Cancun International Airport and take a two-hour shuttle to the port of Chiquilá, where a ferry runs every hour. Once you arrive, St. Somewhere is a luxurious base to come home to. The upscale rooms, tasty food and beverage service and personalized care devoted to each guest are truly unmatched.

The Chef’s Table
RESTAURANT CHEF VINSON PETRILLO
by Marci MoreauIf you ever find yourself looking for a home away from home – a place to fill your soul with an epicurean experience of food, beauty, and love, Zero George, the restaurant and bar at Zero George Hotel in Charleston, South Carolina, is where you will find it all.
Zero George, part of a true historical gemstone, is the culinary anchor of this beautiful property, holding fast all the power, respect, and value of the world of food. A majestic charge, yet in the hands of Chef Vinson Petrillo, he is victorious, and is seamlessly able to transcend any, and, all food, beyond the plate, and into our hearts.
It is widely known food has the ability to bring together people. Around our tables is where we share our stories, reveal our passions, and celebrate life – now, then, and whatever will be. Chef Vinson, is able to take all the best parts of yesterday, today, and tomorrow and create a culinary experience we will never forget. He can truly make the world taste good.
WHERE DOES YOUR FOOD STORY BEGIN?
I’d say my food story began at home. My dad worked a lot and when he was at home we cooked together. I have a big Italian family and Sunday dinners were super important. We started dinner around three in the afternoon and dinner continued until 9 o’clock at night. Everybody was a little bit drunk, a little bit funny, and really, really happy.
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB IN THE INDUSTRY?
My first job in the culinary industry was when I was only 15. I had learning disabilities growing up and struggled in school. Because I struggled I did some stupid things along the way and got kicked out. If I worked, they would allow me to stay in school. I went into a work program and got my first job in a restaurant, at the Parsippany Hilton.
WHERE DID YOU CULINARY JOURNEY BRING YOU FROM THERE?
I wanted to go to culinary school but I did so terrible in school they almost didn't let me in. My only focus was food so I kept trying and eventually got into Johnson and Wales in Providence, RI. I attended for a couple of months, then transferred to the campus in Charleston for more sun and beaches. I worked two jobs, went to school and kept cooking and learning. I was self-taught.
I wanted to get fine dining experience so I went to work at No. 9 Park in Boston with Barbara Lynch, and then at Toppers at the Wauwinet in Nantucket, MA. with chef David Daniels. He would stand behind me every day and tell me I needed to be better. They were long days; it was seasonal so it was in at 5 am and out at 1 am, seven days a week.
I would say David, is the chef that inspired and pushed me to be the chef I am today. He turned into one of my really good friends. I came back season after season for four years.
After I went to New York City. I worked at Cavair Russe on Madison Avenue, Abe and Arthur’s, and I opened Prospect in Brooklyn. I wanted to go around and to see how everyone was organized, how their kitchens worked and make connections.
I always wanted to get my foot in the door at Per Se or Eleven Madison Park but they did not think I had enough experience at the time. It took me a while to find my way as a chef, now I’m 23 years in..
WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE TODAY AS A CHEF?
It’s always a process when you are a chef. How you create your own identity is one of the hardest things to becoming an actual chef. It is difficult to get to a place where people can identify your food as your own with your own style and defining characteristics. I’ve never copied other styles. I don't make the same dish twice, I push boundaries. It takes time.
WHAT IS YOUR KITCHEN LIKE AT ZERO GEORGE?
We have a tasting menu only. I try not to repeat ingredients throughout the process of developing the menu. I try to make things weird and different – use things that sound like they do not go together like smoked snails and blueberries. And then we make them delicious and look beautiful. Nothing I do is pretentious, it is supposed to be fun.
My staff stays with me because it is never the same thing. I think people crave challenge. It makes them more creative.
IT SOUNDS LIKE YOUR KITCHEN IS A VERY CREATIVE PLACE WITH A LOT OF RESPECT FOR PEOPLE AND FOOD; A KITCHEN WITH A MORAL COMPASS – WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR CULINARY VALUES?
Everyone is always welcome to come up with ideas. It’s part of the process. I strongly encourage it. We also respect nature, the seasons, and the growing cycles. “Things that grow together, go together” and
in every season there are lots of things to use to create new recipes. One thing we are really passionate about is we try not to waste things. So I make projects out of our food. I often ask my team, “What are you doing with those onion peels or potatoes skins?” and it becomes a recipe.
IS THERE A DISH THAT CAME OUT OF THAT PROCESS?
Leeks are the biggest wasteful foods, most people want the white parts on the bottom.
The tops are woody and fibrous. One day we had lexans and lexans of leek tops and I asked “What are we going to do with them?” We made a leek ash puree with a poached egg. Here’s how…
For the leek tops, we burn them and turn them into a leek ash, freeze the tops in liquid nitrogen and then dehydrate to make a crispy leek crunch. We then salt and massage with 3% salt to lacto ferment and make a puree as well that is folded into a vichyssoise-style puree that the soft egg sits in.
I KNOW ZERO GEORGE HAS A PRETTY ESTEEMED COOKING SCHOOL.
CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT YOUR INVOLVEMENT WITH THE COOKING PROGRAM AND YOUR APPROACH?
We do a cooking class every Saturday and Sunday. I lead the cooking class on Saturdays and my sous chef Tyler Chavis, who has been with me for 7 years, leads on Sunday. It is an interactive chefs table where guests sit back and watch how a chef would approach and prepare a dish in our restaurant. It is a three-course meal with wine from 11-1 pm.
WHY THE FOOD INDUSTRY?
Because I’m honestly not very good at anything else. It’s the only way I know how to express myself and it’s my safe place.
AND MY FAVORITE QUESTION….HEY CHEF, WHAT DOES YOUR TABLE LOOK LIKE?
I think my table looks like what I remember growing up as a kid. I can’t imagine it any other way. I try to recreate that with my family every Sunday. I have two amazing kids, and lots of neighbors. I work
a lot and the only way I can provide food for my kids is we cook on Sunday for the week. The whole day revolves around food and people. There are people standing, and sitting, its a full house, It’s not as cool and fun as I remember being when I was four and five years old, back then my aunts were sneaking me beer. What we make is what everyone eats, and its a mix oof traditional and new foods. I think it's important to try new foods. My table on Sunday is my life.

Introducing The Most Powerful Raging Bull Ever
Images courtesy of Lamborghini. In the marque’s 60th anniversary year, Automobili Lamborghini presents Revuelto, the first super sports V12 hybrid plug-in HPEV (High Performance Electrified Vehicle). Revuelto defines a new paradigm in terms of performance, sportiness and driving pleasure from its unprecedented new architecture; innovative design; maximum-efficiency aerodynamics; and a new carbon frame concept. An output of 1015 CV is delivered from the combined power of an entirely new combustion engine together with three electric motors, alongside a double-clutch gearbox that makes its debut on a 12-cylinder Lamborghini for the first time. Making it the most powerful raging bull ever.
Revuelto brings the future of Lamborghini design to the road today. It stays constant to the exclusive Lamborghini design DNA but establishes an entirely new stylistic language. It links with the iconic and legendary Lamborghini V12 cars of the past throughout the new shape, while the new proportions open the door towards the future.
“The new Revuelto is a milestone in the history of Lamborghini, and an important pillar in our Direzione Cor Tauri electrification strategy,” said Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini Chairman and CEO. “It is a unique and innovative car but at the same time faithful to our DNA: the V12 is an iconic symbol of our super sports heritage and history. Revuelto was born to break the mold, combining a new 12-cylinder engine with hybrid technology, creating the perfect balance between delivering the emotion that our clients want with the necessity to reduce emissions.”
“With Revuelto we take the experience of driving a Lamborghini to a superior level,” said Rouven Mohr, Lamborghini Chief Technical Officer. “Revuelto takes a significant step forward in terms of reactivity and responsiveness to ensure the most emotive and natural driving in every environment. Revuelto is a car delivering the highest performance but our objective right from the start was to confirm it at the very summit of driving emotions.”
“The Revuelto is adrenaline made visible,” says Mitja Borkert, Lamborghini Head of Design. “The design of the new Lamborghini Revuelto opens a fascinating door towards the future of our unique design language. From first sight, Revuelto is an intriguing next-generation Lamborghini V12, with allliness embracing the monocoque and celebrating a free view towards the V12 HPEV powertrain.
“The unique and recognizableY-shape light signature is significant in this new era of our most iconic flagship car, and the interior is a dramatic leap forward in defining the new design direction of Lamborghini. Our philosophy of ‘feel like a pilot’ is vivid and visible in every detail:the driver and passenger are deeply integrated in the very lightweight Y-shape design of dashboard and center console, replicating the sensations of being in a race car but with a perfect intuitive balance between digital and physical controls.”
CHARLESTON
CHARLOTTE & THE CAROLINAS
A LEGACY IN SILK:
Eliza Lucas Pinckney’s Robe à la Française at the Charleston Museum
The Charleston Museum is spending its 250th anniversary looking back to their founding in 1773, so we can better understand their role as America’s First Museum as we move forward into the future. Charleston has a long history and it was a key site for the American Revolutionary War – therefore a good portion of their collection focuses on 18th century material culture. One of the shining gems from the Historic Textiles Collection is a robe à la française gown, c. 1753, that was worn by Eliza Lucas Pinckney (1722-1793).
Pinckney’s dress, a c. 1753 silk robe à la française, or “dress in the French style,” is so delicate that it is rarely shown to preserve its posterity and is truly a work of art characterized by full box pleats hanging from the shoulders, three-quarter sleeves with full layered cuffs, a narrow, conical bodice, and a full skirt with prominent hips. This style of dress was predominant in Western European fashion for middle class and wealthy women from approximately the 1720s through the 1780s, with variations on textiles, embellishments, and accessories over time.
Though missing its original stomacher, a panel to cover the bosom and abdomen, the gown still showcases details of period construction, including tiered cuffs and serpentine ruffles. If you lift the ruffled layer on the skirt – known as a furbelow – you can see how the light pink would have been a vivid hot pink when it was first made. This gown would have been quite bright when Eliza Lucas Pinckney first wore it in the 1750s.
Eliza Lucas Pinckney was an influential figure among the landed gentry in 18th century Charleston with a multifaceted life. She was a diligent correspondent, a botanist, a planter, and a landowner in addition to being a wife, mother, and grandmother. These many roles are well documented by her own letters, which she copied and kept bound in a letterbook.
Pinckney’s largest contributions to South Carolina history were the successful production of indigo and silk on two of her plantations, Wappoo and Belmont. Though she was very invested in her knowledge of agricultural work, she would not have been so fortunate without the labor and expertise of enslaved people, whose oppression built her wealth many times over.
These are just a few of the names of the people who made Pinckney’s life possible: Quash/John Williams (Carpenter), Dick (Cook), Mary Ann (Maid), Prince, Beck, Lynn, Sawney, Indian Peter, Isaac, Pompey, Sarah, Mo, Molly, Nanny, Mary, Peter, Douglas, Betty, and Gulla. - Charleston Museum www. charlestonmusum.org

ET CETERA: ANFA 9 YEAR ANNIVERSARY
'Et cetera' is a Latin phrase meaning 'and so on' or 'and the rest.' This exhibition features three artists who are painters...and so on. They utilize paint + mixed media in a way that innovates, creating something entirely new with almost sculptural definition.
We're also celebrating 9 years as a gallery - 9 years for which we are immensely thankful, and now we look forward to the rest. 'Et Cetera' both encompasses the mixed media work of Allison James, Caroline Boykin, and Brenda Bogart, and heralds another year as a gallery.
On May 4th from 6-8pm is the opening of 'Et Cetera' and their 9th anniversary celebration. Anne will also be signing copies of her new memoir "The Brushstrokes of Life.”

AN ARTFUL LOVE LETTER TO ASHEVILLE
In Asheville's South Slope, a stunning and delightfully refined hotel comes to life with the spirit of Zelda Fitzgerald. Though often remembered only as the muse of her famous husband, author F. Scott Fitzgerald, Zelda was also an artist, a novelist, a poet, a dancer, and, according to Scott, “the original flapper.” Like Zelda herself, Zelda Dearest’s twenty unique rooms—set in three beautifully restored turn of the century mansions—are enchanting, enigmatic, and above all, a terribly intoxicating delight. - Zelda Dearest www.zeldadearest.com image courtesy of Hatteras Sky
Two
Landmark restaurants,
THE PEARL and THE BOARDING HOUSE
will make their comeback this summer. Both restaurants now owned by Blue Flag Partners will be open to the public and will remain as two distinct restaurants. A familiar face on the island Abby Ayer has been hired as general manager. Abby previously served as general manager of The Nautilus and The Gaslight.
NANTUCKET FILM FESTIVAL
The Nantucket Film Festival will be held June 21-26 2023. The honorees and the event will pay tribute to these screenwriters and storytellers who've propelled the medium forward, Nicole Holofcener (ENOUGH SAID, YOU HURT FEELINGS), Ken Burns and Lynn Novick (THE U.S. AND THE HOLOCAUST, HEMINGWAY), and Jenny Han (THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTY, TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE). www.nantucketfilmfestival.org
SIDEWALK DINING
Looking forward to dinning al fresco this summer as seven downtown Nantucket restaurants were granted sidewalk dining permits. They include: The Rose & Crown; B-ACK Yard BBQ; NanTaco; Ethos Nantucket; The Beet; Lemon Press; and the Club Car. Each will have slightly different allowances for tables and service given their particular circumstances, including the size of the public sidewalk where they are located and the flow of traffic in that area. This will make for some fun people watching this season.
THE BRANT POINT LIGHTHOUSE
The time honored tradition of tossing two pennies overboard as the ferry pulls around the Brant point lighthouse will be a little shinier. The Brant Point Lighthouse will be getting a long-awaited paint job by the U.S. Coast Guard this season. The shabby condition of the lighthouse has been a point of discussion for the Nantucket Historical Commission and others on the island in recent years. Although the upkeep of the Brant Point Lighthouse is not actually the responsibility of the town or Station Brant Point, but instead the Coast Guard’s Aids to Navigation team based in Woods Hole. The beloved phase “Two Pennies Overboard” can be seen on boat hulls, quarter boards, paintings and books throughout the island.

Skincare by Amy Peterson THE REAL SKIN SAVANT
By Margaret Luce / Copy Editor Meg SheaFinally, I made it down to Miami to see and meet The Real Skin Savant at her beautiful South Miami e-tailer. I soon appreciated and realized that my friends revealed their secret to a glowing, vibrant look. As the beautiful Amy Peterson stepped into the treatment room, the confidence she exudes made me relax into her suggestions. I had initially thought about Tixel, and she shared that it “allows us to finally get great results in previously difficult to treat areas, notably the fine lines under the eyes, the eyelids and horizontal lines on the front of the neck. It’s ultra-gentle, and by not injuring the skin, it’s pure perfection!” In a short time, I knew no matter what treatment approach she took, I would leave with a great result.
Curating the treatment based on my desired results and her knowledge, I was taken by her tailored approach and multifaceted mind. What I quickly noticed is that the Softwave tightened up my jawline and, overall, has given me a tighter appearance. The Clear and Brilliant, sometimes referred to as Fraxel’s baby sister, provided additional benefits. As she glanced down at my hands, she didn’t hesitate and applied IPL, as my hands definitely were in need of a little help. Even though we determined that having Tixel that day wasn’t ideal, she did a test on my upper lip to ascertain how my skin would respond. It was effortless, and I appreciated her adapting my treatment and being amenable to re-booking the Tixel for a later date.
“Amy’s mission is to create a practice that redefines luxury skincare, exudes warmth, spearheads innovation, and promotes practitioner and client education. Investing in leading skincare technologies to transform both men and women alike. Every aspect of the client experience is about making them feel comfortable, confident, and well informed so they can obtain the best possible results and build trust.” Taking her practice beyond words, she demonstrates the value of staying current and expanding services. “A recent expansion of the clinic is The Body Suite, which offers cutting-edge technologies, such as Sculp, EON, Endospheres, and Emsulpt Neo, which treat a wide variety of body-related concerns effectively.”
There is no doubt she strives to be on the leading edge, continually expanding her education and implementing new technology. Considering the vast array of tools at her fingertips, Amy knows she is not a surgical clinic; however, her practice is a great first step in preparing you for a surgical procedure. With a cool vibe and a great Miami-based boutique location, her investment in technology goes to show that she is forward-thinking and committed to an exceptional client experience. With an innovative and personalized approach, she partners with her clients to create magical results.
As I made my way home with my custom care package of products and a thoughtful cryo roller which I am happy to report I didn’t need, I was grateful for the opportunity to meet The Real Skin Savant and receive customized treatments. As I caught a glimpse in the mirror, I noted the immediate results, which included the diminishment of fine lines. What I loved about the experience was that I entered with a solid idea of what I wanted and exited receiving exactly what I needed. Reflecting, it is really her; the confidence she exudes allowed me to let go, feel safe, and have an effect as if I had done far more. There is no doubt that skincare by Amy Peterson gets my vote!

REBESANA - SIMPLE QUALITY
My friend and golfing partner told me about Rebasana. A supplement with five key molecular messengers: Astragalus, Berberine, NMN, Quercetin, and Resveratrol.
“Rebesana is powerful because it’s more than just the sum of its parts. Its unique combination and dosage of molecules promote longevity through multiple cellular pathways.” The body is complex and wise; when we provide it with the core elements, it knows what to do with them. IF YOU HAVEN’T, YOU SHOULD
The Endless Winter
By Margaret Bastick LuceTaking advantage of the endless winter, I opted for a visit to the snow-covered wonderland of Park City. Having only been to Aspen and Vail, I delighted in pulling together items for my first trip to Utah. Grabbing a friend and fellow outdoor enthusiast, off we went on a three-day adventure.
Discovering that Utah is an idyllic destination with an easy non-stop flight from South Florida, we arrived in a mere five hours. Our base camp for the three nights was none other than the Stein Eriksen Lodge, named after the Norwegian Olympic and World Champion alpine ski racer. Offering the look and feel of a quintessential European lodge. As we noted the time, we realized if we had been ready with our boots and skis, a half-day of skiing would have been an option; instead, we headed into town to check it out.
A few hours in town had us wandering into shops and stopping into gems like Atticus Tea and Coffee, offering tasty bites and a unique tea and coffee selection. Personally, the Nectar of the Gods golden chai latte with turmeric tonic tea, almond milk, and a hint of CBD called my name. Before we knew it, two hours passed, and we ordered a Lyft and made our way back to the lodge for our 3:00 pm rendezvous with the ski butlers. They did a fantastic job picking out the perfect skis and boots for us. Feeling ready for the following morning’s playtime on the mountain, our thoughts shifted to getting ready for dinner. The Glitretind, a Forbes Five Star Travel Guide awardee, offered a delicious meal and a luxurious environment framed by stunning views of Deer Valley Resort.
The beauty of visiting this winter mecca was the opportunities provided, like their “Ski with a Champion” Program at Deer Valley. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to ski with an Olympian. I had the privilege of skiing with Kaylin Richardson, a big-mountain skier (she’s appeared in 9 Warren Miller films) and is a 2-Time Olympian in Alpine Skiing. As she guided me to the best runs and secret stashes, I marveled at her turns--the years of dedication visible in every impressive arc. We schussed to her favorite spots around the resort, from the perfect grooming on “Stein’s Way” to the spectacular views on “Homeward Bound,” but what struck me most was how Kaylin delighted in sharing the mountains with me--it was tangible and contagious. The stories and subsequent laughter on the chairlift rides are as memorable as the carves we made through the snow. I highly recommend seeing Deer Valley through Kaylin or any of the other phenomenal Olympian’s eyes.
Whether you are in need of an après-ski or White Pine Touring snowshoe experience massage, sauna, or steam, the spa will have you feeling restored and ready for another day of mountain adventure. If you are a tad hungry, be sure to book one of the six life-sized Stein Alpenglobes on the Mountain Lodge deck for a magical outdoor dining experience. The meal and vistas will be one of the many memories from this special place. Stein Eriksen Lodge and Park City, I will return.
If you haven’t, you should…say yes, to an outdoor adventure!
