Summertime in Florida can always be described in one word: HOT. Like many in Florida, we headed west to the Rockies where the mornings touched the mid 40’s and high noon tapped out in the 70’s. As they say in Italy, “Perfetto”.

We had a ball with our friends at the ultimate western store, Kemo Sabe, toured the beautifully designed Mollie Hotel, and drooled over estates offered by Compass Real Estate/Aspen. We caught rainbow trout on a fly, floated down the Eagle River, and celebrated our country’s independence in grand USA style, witnessing deep and joyful spirits and profound love for our country. Thank God for that!

We are thrilled with the response to our summer issue but just like that, it’s back in the saddle for Fall 2024 with jam-packed luxury from the barn to the fields to the Avenues. AND, a new name and logo; Wellington Quarterly Magazine

Our cover was shot by Amy Lanigan, an equine photographer whose entire family is steeped in the horse world. Inside, we focus on luxury icons such as Tiffany, whose presence in South Florida is unmatched. Hermès, whose luxurious silk scarves and leathers are rooted in their equestrian beginnings, and Dior, whose saddle purse has become a hallmark design and perfect for the sports we love.

Last winter, 24-year-old Felicitas Hendricks from Germany, a newcomer to the Wellington Global Dressage scene, took top honors and she is poised for another strong season this year. We take you inside CWD Sellier, makers of some of the finest saddles in the world

and suppliers to champions in all equitations. Speaking of horses or should I say horsepower, we experience the beauty, power, and style of a four-door Ferrari, The Purosangue, which is Italian for thoroughbred! …buckle up kids!

Continuing themes of the past, we are in love with Monarch Defenders, a custom builder of the Land Rover Defender series in trims and colors you will not believe, and we learn a lot from Christian Zeron, a vintage watch collector, seller, and stylist who zeros in on the popularity and marketing of luxury watches for women. We meet Annie Santulli, a captivating personality and talent in home design, and work with John Craig Clothing, as their team helps us understand the advantages and luxury of a custom-made garment.

Why not savor a classic cocktail while we give you our style notes for fall and holiday, and explore Tavolena, the hottest new Italian restaurant in Jupiter where local celebrity chef Michael Rolchigo and his wife Lisa serve food inspired by his childhood in Upstate New York.

Finally, enjoy The Boca Raton Resort and savor the updated luxury they provide then grab your clubs and marvel at the course design of Cabot Citrus Farms, Florida’s newest and most challenging golf development carved out of nature.

It’s only been nine months since our first issue, and we are proud to be setting a new standard in print media. We hope our beautiful photography, thoughtful topics, and expert writing wrapped in high-quality print, will always find a place in your home or business.

As always, , Va Bene!

THE ULTIMATE DEFENDER

Monarch’s Bespoke Take on an Iconic Adventure Vehicle

THE LAND ROVER DEFENDER, A VEHICLE SYNONYMOUS WITH RUGGED ENDURANCE AND ICONIC BRITISH DESIGN, HAS CAPTURED HEARTS AND IMAGINATIONS SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 1948. ORIGINALLY BUILT FOR AGRICULTURAL AND MILITARY USE, THE DEFENDER’S OFF-ROAD CAPABILITIES, COMBINED WITH ITS NO-NONSENSE DESIGN, MADE IT A FAVORITE AMONG EXPLORERS, ADVENTURERS, AND, EVENTUALLY, THE WORLD’S ELITE.

Over the decades, the Defender underwent numerous style and performance transformations, with the most notable redesign emerging in 1983—albeit exclusively for the European market. It wasn’t until a decade later, in 1993, that this formidable vehicle crossed the Atlantic and made its debut in America, cementing its status as a coveted symbol of adventure.

Fast forward to today, and Monarch Defender, an artisanal auto house based in Ames, Iowa, has taken this legendary vehicle and redefined it for the modern, luxury-focused adventurer. By seamlessly blending its rugged heritage with bespoke craftsmanship, Monarch Defender transforms the classic Defender into a bespoke transporter fit for the jet set.

At Monarch Defender, they don’t just honor the Defender’s rich history—they elevate it. Each vehicle undergoes a meticulous redesign, where classic aesthetics meet modern luxury. Interiors are completely customized to meet the discerning tastes of their clients, offering a harmonious blend of leather upholstery, premium materials, and personalized details that add sophistication without sacrificing the Defender’s inherent toughness.

What sets Monarch Defender apart is their commitment to both tradition and innovation. While they stay true to the Defender’s iconic, utilitarian design, they incorporate state-of-the-art technology to ensure their vehicles are as high-performing as they are beautiful. From integrating advanced infotainment systems to ensuring modern safety features, Monarch’s bespoke Defenders are equipped for the demands of today’s world without losing the soul of the original.

Under the hood, Monarch Defenders are as formidable as they come. With the power of a GM LS3 engine, the vehicle’s performance is elevated to match its luxurious transformation. The team’s expert craftsmanship extends to the drivetrain, creating a vehicle that’s not only visually striking but also built to conquer both rugged landscapes and city streets with equal ease.

For equestrian enthusiasts, where tradition and modern luxury converge, the Monarch Defender delivers an unmatched blend of heritage and refinement. Whether traversing scenic landscapes or arriving at a polo match, the Monarch Defender embodies elegance, adventure, and expert craftsmanship at every turn.

UNWRAPPING THE SAUNA BLANKET TREND

In the ever-evolving world of wellness, new trends emerge that promise to combine convenience with high-end experiences. One such trend captivating health enthusiasts and luxury seekers alike is the sauna blanket. Part wellness tool, part relaxation indulgence, sauna blankets are quickly becoming a staple for those looking to elevate their self-care routine from the comfort of their own home.

For nearly 2,000 years, the people of Finland have embraced the art of sweating it out in saunas—a tradition that has stood the test of time due to its impressive health benefits, including muscle relaxation, improved sleep, and enhanced mood. However, unless you’re a Finnish craftsman with the skills to build your own sauna, adding one to your home may be out of reach. Enter the sauna blanket—a modern solution offering the same benefits in a portable, user-friendly form.

A sauna blanket is exactly what it sounds like: a blanket that delivers all the advantages of a traditional sauna without requiring a dedicated space. Users can lie down in what feels like a high-tech sleeping bag, enjoying sweat-inducing and detoxifying effects with ease.

“Infrared sauna blankets are essentially a contemporary take on the classic sauna,” explains NYCbased board-certified dermatologist Dr. Macrene Alexiades. “Instead of heating the entire room, infrared rays focus on warming the body directly, promoting intense sweating with a gentler room temperature.”

One of the biggest perks of a sauna blanket is how seamlessly it can fit into your daily routine.

Whether you need to de-stress after a long day or incorporate it into your ongoing wellness regimen, the convenience of a sauna blanket allows for relaxation, improved circulation, and muscle relief from virtually anywhere—transforming any room into a personal spa.

High-end brands have embraced the luxury sauna blanket trend, incorporating premium materials and advanced infrared technology. Take the Heat Healer Sauna Blanket, for instance—a favorite among celebrities like Kourtney Kardashian, Travis Barker, and Miranda Kerr. Crafted from Amide fabric (used in NASA spacesuits), this portable infrared blanket heats up to a therapeutic 158 degrees, offering an impressive array of benefits. From reduced muscle recovery time to enhanced energy levels, anti-aging, and immune support, the Heat Healer has

become a go-to for wellness enthusiasts who seek luxury in every detail.

The infrared technology used in many sauna blankets is particularly appealing for its deep-penetrating heat, which reaches muscles and tissues more effectively than traditional saunas. This approach offers additional benefits like reduced inflammation, improved skin appearance, and even weight loss support. Plus, with adjustable heat settings, users can create a personalized experience that aligns with their wellness goals.

As home wellness continues to evolve, sauna blankets embody the modern lifestyle, offering both health benefits and a chic, elevated approach to self-care. More than just a wellness tool, they reflect a commitment to relaxation, balance, and personal well-being.

STYLE

SADDLE UP!

Few handbags hit you with such an iconic design as the Saddle Bag from Christian Dior. In a world of totes, satchels, clutches and buckets, the Dior saddle bag’s shape and style is unforgettable.

Helmut Newton “ Saddle l” via getty images

Designed by John Galliano, it made its debut in his 2000 Spring/Summer runway show. Although an initial hit, the bag got lost in the mid-2000s to the likes of Prada, LV, Gucci, and others, just when the woman’s handbag category caught fire. Not until Beyoncé broke one out in late 2014 did the bag regain some footing. Classics in silks, leather, and canvas started popping up as “vintage” and became highly sought after Dior quietly ignored the fanfare until its reemergence in late 2019 when the fashion house made it a centerpiece of its print campaign, offering the style in 20 different fabrics and hides.

It is said the bag was created from an old Helmut Newton photograph titled ‘Saddle I’ taken in Paris in 1976. The photo is of a woman sensually posing on a silk mattress wearing a jockey’s sleek and pronounced saddle on her back. Galliano apparently loved the image enough to sketch a purse in its form with the Dior ‘D’ acting as the stirrup, high and tight to the curves of the silhouette. Never one to shy away from sensuality, Dior used the bag in provocative ad campaigns in 2000 showing the bag intertwined with two beautiful women lusting over each other.

Galliano’s original release included 12 different designs representing countries that inspired him over his career including The United States, China, Argentina, Mexico, England, Russia, Spain, Morocco, Egypt, France, India, and Japan.

Today, Dior’s style leader Maria Grazia Chiuri continues to embrace the iconic design with an array of saddle-related products from key-chains to wallets; cross-bodys to evening clutches with bag offerings in leather, silks, quilts, and canvas ranging in price from $1,900-4,900.

Isabella Poli lives in Milan, Italy, and frequently writes on style, fashion, trends, and ‘Milano Streetwear’. She is known to scour vintage clothing shops throughout Italy, looking for items that reunite with modern trends today. Her favorite jeans are Levi 501’s.

CLOTHES MAKE THE MAN

WE SPOKE WITH TANWEER JAMAL, DIRECTOR OF CLOTHING FOR JOHN CRAIG CLOTHIER.

WITH STORES IN NAPLES, WINTER PARK, OCALA, JUPITER AND PONTE VEDRA BEACH, TANWEER’S SPECIALTY IS MADE-TO-MEASURE, INCORPORATING EVERY DETAIL IN CRAFTING THE PERFECT EXPERIENCE FOR HIS CLIENTS.

YOU ARE SOMEONE WITH IMPECCABLE STYLE. WHERE DOES THAT COME FROM?

In the beginning of my career, I always wanted to follow people whose style I admired, but very quickly I learned you can’t copy someone’s style. Style comes from your personality. It’s a reflection of your professionalism, it’s an attention to detail and it shows the respect you have for yourself and others. I started having clothes custom-made which gave me an opportunity to style my clothes the way I wanted and that boosted my confidence in myself plus it helped me stand out from the crowd.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN THE APPAREL BUSINESS AND WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT IT.

I have been in the business since 1992, and I love the art of selling and seeing customers enjoy their new clothes. It has afforded me the opportunity to meet some amazing people.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY ARE SOME MISCONCEPTIONS PEOPLE HAVE ABOUT MADE TO MEASURE?

Well, first of all, made to measure is not the same as bespoke. Bespoke is largely hand stitched and requires several fittings. Made to measure utilizes as precise measurements as we can get and that is translated to a block pattern then cut and sewn to those details in one of the two or three factories we decide to use, based on the garment type. The quality is always significantly higher than ready to wear but adding an endless number of features to the garments doesn’t always mean it will be costly. For what the customer ultimately receives, it really is a wonderful experience and value.

WHILE MENSWEAR STYLING IS MUCH MORE STABLE THAN WOMENSWEAR, WHAT CHANGES, IF ANY, HAVE YOU SEEN IN MEN’S STYLING OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS?
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES YOU HAVE HELPED CLIENTS OVERCOME BY FITTING THEM PROPERLY?

When it comes to clothing, achieving the perfect fit can pose a challenge for many individuals. No two body types are the same. But custom-made garments are not exclusively for those with larger proportions; they can also significantly benefit people with varying posture types, such as high or slopped shoulders. My goal is always to boost a client’s confidence in themselves and understanding their expectation in the end. It’s a challenge I love.

There appears to be an evolution of men’s styling with a general trend toward more casual attire in business settings. Businessmen such as Elon Musk and Mark Cuban have played a role in normalizing casual wear in professional environments. Despite the shift, we see a growing demand for custom clothing. Men are becoming more adventurous with colors, particularly in tailored and essential wardrobe pieces. A more modern style pant with a single forward pleat and the reemergence of double-breasted jackets are a few of the latest trends. Something else I see in luxury clothing right now is the emergence of “quiet luxury”, which focuses on high-quality, relaxed fit with classic yet refined tailoring.

WALK US THROUGH THE PROCESS A CLIENT WOULD GO THROUGH WHEN THEY MAKE

AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOU?

It’s all about providing the ultimate experience when a client make an appointment. They will receive 100% attention and making it a one-on-one experience. Prior to the actual appointment, I conduct a comprehensive questionnaire with my clients to anticipate a potential need for additional fabrication or garments. My goal is to empower you to become an informed consumer in the realm of suits, trousers, or shirts. On that day, you are not just a customer but also a designer. Just like an architect, I meticulously pay attention to client requirements and measure for a specific garment to meet those needs.

After that the fun part starts. We go through our numerous ‘best of the best’ books of the fabrics, buttons, lining to turn the clients desired styling into reality. Clients experience the highest level of excellence with John Craig Made to Measure.

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR FABRIC SELECTIONS FOR THE FALL/WINTER SEASON AND

DO YOU SEE ANY SIGNIFICANT TRENDS?

It’s all about light weight and year round fabrics especially the climate we live in. Our made to measure garments are crafted from the world’s finest mills such as Loro Piana, Dormeuil, Vitale Barberis Canonico and Carlo Barbera. Living in Florida, clients always look for light weight fabrics and bright colors for their wardrobe.

WHAT ARE MEN CHOOSING AS THEIR WEDDING OUTFIT?

Whether you’re walking the aisle yourself or are a booked guest for wedding season, it can be hard knowing what to wear. Our made to

measure service gives you the freedom to create your own look with personal details and finishes at an exceptional value. At John Craig, our stylists ensure your special day is extra memorable with custom suiting and unique details.

OTHER THAN TAILORED CLOTHING, DO YOU OFFER OTHER CUSTOM-MADE PRODUCTS TO YOUR

CUSTOMERS?

Yes, we do offer custom-made belts from L.E.N (Lifestyle Essential Now). L.E.N is a bespoke luxury leather good company known for high quality belts.

How many suits and sport jackets are currently in your closets?

Way too many!!

LOUIS VUITTON RETURNS TO ITS ROOTS: A New Chapter on Worth Avenue

The iconic Louis Vuitton brand is set to make a highly anticipated return to its original neighborhood on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach. The new store, located at 222 Worth Ave., will mark a significant milestone in the brand’s history, bringing the celebrated fashion house back to the block where it first made its Palm Beach debut more than 40 years ago. This relocation, just a block west from its previous address in The Esplanade at 150 Worth Ave., is a homecoming that honors the brand's longstanding presence on this legendary luxury shopping street.

The building housing the new Louis Vuitton store has a fascinating history of its own. Designed in 1945 by architect Raymond Plockelman, it was initially built as a single-story structure, with a second floor added in 1952 to serve as a residence. Over the years, the building has seen multiple renovations, most notably for the luxury brand Escada in the late 1990s. Now, it’s set for another transformation as Louis Vuitton takes over the space, continuing

its legacy of luxury.

According to Ludovica Douglas from Atmosphere Design Group, the building will undergo modifications to bring it closer to its historically neoclassical design. The renovation plans include the removal of an arched window and a residential window, both of which will be replaced with a pilaster and a window that aligns more harmoniously with the building’s architectural roots. These updates will maintain the elegance of the original design while accommodating the modern needs of Louis Vuitton’s luxury offerings.

This new location on Worth Avenue not only symbolizes the brand’s rich history in Palm Beach but also reaffirms its commitment to the local luxury market. With the store now standing on the same block as its original 251 Worth Ave. address, Louis Vuitton is set to blend past and present seamlessly, offering its clientele a shopping experience steeped in both history and modern elegance.

FOR THE SPORT OF KINGS Casa Fagliano, The Argentine Atelier

I remember something my grandfather Rodolfo use to say: “Never disappoint a customer, no matter what happens in a particular situation, this mindset will make the difference in keeping long-term customers.”

- German Fagliano, Casa Fagliano

The sport of polo is equal parts athletic and aesthetic. Both the rules of the game and code of dress are steeped in traditions that remain loyal to their heritage. While it was the English who introduced the sport of polo to the Argentines, it is widely accepted that the Argentines breed the best polo ponies, the best polo players and the best bespoke polo boots. Those in the know have always turned to Casa Fagliano for their custom-built footwear

where five generations of artisans carry forth the traditions that began in 1892 after the Fagliano family immigrated from Italy to Buenos Aires. The first pair of professional polo boots were made in 1920 with design based on English zippered equestrian footwear. The style evolved over the years according to meet the needs of diverse and renowned customers including Nacho Figueras, King Charles, Prince Harry, and the Sultan of Brunei.

The distinctive Fagliano product is the result of more than 120 years of experience and love for the trade that is considered one of the world’s oldest professions. A craft transferred from generation to generation, from parent to child. “As a new generation, we bring fresh thoughts and ideas to give the traditional business the tools to thrive in a fast-changing world,” explains German Fagliano, the youngest in the ancestral chain. “As much as we keep our traditions in the craftsmanship, we must adapt. Polo as a sport has evolved and it still is, and we need to evolve along with it”.

The outer part of the boot is crafted using four layers of leather, ensuring the boot is of a certain thickness to protect the player’s leg from the potential risks that are involved with the sport. Each sole is hand-welted and stitched with linen threads for the greatest durability in all elements and weather conditions. The long-lasting footwear displays perfectly the result of efforts put forth by the Fagliano family in selecting some of the most noble materials for both attraction and durability.

In recent years, polo has become a rougher sport. Horses are faster and players are stronger as they focus on playing polo professionally and not solely for leisure. The functionality of a player’s gear has never been more essential. According to German Fagliano, safety items like helmets and glasses can mean the difference between life and death or saving vs. losing an eye. “Believe it or not, boots also need to have a very precise fit in order to provide protection and comfortability,” he notes, explaining why no detail is spared during the approximately 48 hours of human labor devoted to crafting each pair of their bespoke polo boots. Even with such precise standards, there is room for individuality. Some recent boots were made in navy blue and others in white leather embroidered with red initials!

Current expressions of contemporary creativity include a collaboration with Nacho Figueras. The capsule collection of limited-edition sneakers they designed together are available in, of course, ‘Aspen Green’ and ‘Hamptons Blue’ giving a cheeky nod to two of the most exclusive polo hubs in the United States. “Nacho is super friendly and easygoing. It was a true pleasure to work alongside as we have known him for many years. Prior to our collaboration, we have made boots for him and his son Hilario,” says Fagliano.

Another joining forces with the Fagliano family is Swiss watchmaker Jaeger LeCoultre, another brand based on craftsmanship and precision. Watch straps inspired by their footwear designs to be both beautiful and functional, the collection of canvas and leather straps are to be paired with one of the watchmaker’s most iconic styles, the Reverso, a timepiece originally created to withstand the rigors of a polo match. “I think we share the same passion for high-quality craftsmanship and tradition. We also share the same values of passing on the knowledge to the next generation,” affirms Fagliano.

Thanks to the global label Polo Ralph Lauren, the image of the polo player mid-swing on his pony has not only become one of the most iconic and recognized brand names and logos but has also brought the once esoteric sport into the public eye. But for the Fagliano family, remaining exclusive is still the name of the game, and why they personally oversee the production of every pair of the most exclusive polo and equestrian boots in the world.

RIDING HIGH: How

Equestrian

Chic is Dominating Fall/Winter

Trends 2024

Photo

AS YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED, THE FASHION WORLD HAS GONE WESTERN.

PHARRELL WILLIAMS, THE CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF MENSWEAR FOR LOUIS VUITTON,

UNVEILED A FALL 2024 COLLECTION THAT IS DRENCHED IN WESTERN FASHION. MODELS ON THE RUNWAY WORE CHAPS, BOOTS, FRINGE, BELTS, AND OTHER LEATHER ACCESSORIES FROM THE COLLECTION. ACTORS AND ACTRESSES HAVE ALSO BEEN SEEN ON THE RED CARPET AND AT VARIOUS EVENTS SPORTING WESTERN-THEMED CLOTHING. AT RALPH LAUREN'S DECEMBER RUNWAY SHOW, JENNIFER LOPEZ DONNED WESTERN-INSPIRED CLOTHING, WHILE KERRY WASHINGTON ALSO WORE A WESTERN-INSPIRED ENSEMBLE AT ELLE'S WOMEN IN HOLLYWOOD CELEBRATION IN LOS ANGELES.

Fashion brands such as Miu Miu, Prada, and Brioni have turned their focus to the West for their 2024 collections, alongside names like Paul Stuart, Celine by Hedi Slimane, and Brunello Cucinelli to name a few. But where did this surge of equestrian chic come from? A good bet is that the cultural phenomenon of Yellowstone and the growing popularity of country music have fueled the revival of this timeless aesthetic. Rhea Scott Follett, founder of CR Ranchwear, believes designers will continue to ride the Western wave through Fall/Winter 2025. “When Ralph Lauren does Western, it has a certain feel I love,” Follett shares. “But what’s exciting is seeing how other designers bring their own fresh take to this rugged yet glamorous style.”

Looking back at its roots, equestrian chic has always been more than just a passing trend. The Cowboy Core aesthetic stems from the practical, resilient attire of the American West, originally designed to endure the frontier's tough conditions. Over time, these functional outfits transformed into enduring fashion statements. Icons like Dolly Parton have kept the Western spirit alive, combining vintage details like sequined Stetsons and rhinestone guitars with a modern twist. Labels like Ralph Lauren, especially in the '90s, have long drawn inspiration from this rugged Americana, incorporating fringe, leather, and denim into their collections.

Cowboy Core’s influence extends beyond the runway to film. The rebellious adventure in Thelma and Louise (1991) was embodied in their Western-inspired wardrobes, while Brad Pitt's cowboy aesthetic in the movie helped solidify its place in pop culture. Today, this style is thriving, fueled by music's biggest stars. Beyoncé’s recently released eighth studio album Cowboy Carter, which pays homage to her Houston roots, features collaborations with icons like Willie Nelson, Miley Cyrus, and Dolly Parton. The album's standout? A reimagined version of Parton’s classic “Jolene.”

Although Equestrian chic appears to be making a major comeback, it is evident that this trend has never truly gone out of style. Its authenticity, which appeals to both designers and customers, is the reason for its lasting success. Whether in music, movies, or fashion, equestrian chic continues to be a representation of liberty, uniqueness, and classic allure.

The Tide is Rising, But Where’s The Moon?

The search for the puppeteers behind the renaissance in the world of womens watches

Jackie Kennedy Onassis wearing a Cartier Tank

Can you pinpoint the moment when classically sized Rolexes, Datejusts and Day-Dates, became “too small” for men in the eyes of pop culture? The moment that we all forgot that Churchill, Reagan and Dr. King, hell, even Tony Soprano, men that were far more masculine than the lot of us, felt just fine in these conservative Oysters? All while pummeling their opposition, I might add.

Do you remember not so long ago when steel sports watches, after decades of being somewhat looked down upon by the luxury world, became the toast of the town? Booming, in so many cases, 200-400% over their retail price? And now, just a few years later, isn’t it funny how they’re inexplicably somewhat passe? Now, watches that embody decadence, many of which were for years melted for their gold weight, seem to be back in vogue, don’t they?

Trends are funny. They can seem as beyond us as the tide once did to fishermen, I know, but there’s always a moon. Actually, there are always a few, a few forces, sometimes from unexpected corners of the market, pushing and pulling us out to sea.

And there’s a new trend in the market - one we’ve been pining for since time immemorial - the renaissance of women’s watches.

Now, that’s not to say that women are strangers to the watch industry. Jaqueline Kennedy and Princess Diana are among the most influential tastemakers in the genre’s history, man or woman.

For years, the industry has spewed platitudes about its desire to grow the space, to “include” women, which really just means, of course, to add them in droves to the bottom line. But the strides that’ve been made on that front in the last decade were not corporate at all, they were made by independent content creators. Passionate minds often, relatively speaking, with little to gain beyond satisfaction and a dose of well earned clout.

Sure, product has improved as of late. It (almost) always does. But the pieces and collections that’ve been so flocked to in the thick of this renaissance haven’t been so innovative, have they? Cartier’s Panthere and Tank have only hardly changed since their introductions to the world, Rolex’s Lady Datejust and Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak the same. And yet, they’re found on the lovely little wrists of womens now more than ever.

So, if not the product, what has changed so considerably? The messenger and (her) message, I’d say.

A new generation of, predominantly but not exclusively, female social media influencers has emerged. And they, like wildfire on platforms like Instagram and TikTok, have seen more success in indoctrinating women far and wide into this rather expensive and

certainly antiquated hobby than any decamillion dollar marketing effort executed by the world’s leading brands in recent years.

Brynn Wallner, owner of popular instagram account Dimepiece, is a perfect example. Among the most popular influencers in female watch culture, Wallner’s recipe is so simple it seems maddening. She speaks in relatable language and makes culturally relevant allusions while sharing photos of predictable, and reliably beautiful, wristwatches on the wrists of always bold, often stylish women. Why hadn’t this been done before? I’ll ask this again in a moment.

One example of the simple brilliance of her approach was her collaboration with graphic designer Darian Newman. Together, they published a series of horological horoscopes, pairing popular models with astrology signs. While not something that would compel the traditional base, myself included, the importance and influence of this campaign, both in practice and as a principle, should not be underestimated. It demonstrated a real understanding of the interests and sensitivities of this emerging community. What a scotch and a cigar is to many, horoscopes and jewelry are to a whole, albeit distant, world.

In retrospect, it’s obvious. The old guard of watch writers, with their long, technical and didactic essays, were always niche and destined to reach a low ceiling. The vast majority of the public has no interest in reading data pertinent to their lives, nonetheless research papers that wrestle with the complicated history of micro-mechanical timekeeping. And to think the opposite, to attempt to continue to grow the watch enthusiast community in such an exhausted manner, is insane. A horoscope, while not everyones cup of tea, is a new tactic, a new lure.

So - why weren’t any number of the passionate men that’ve long dominated this industry able to expand the industry base into the female luxury world? Is it so difficult to speak to women? Well, maybe. And that can seem disheartening, but I don’t think it ought to be. Third parties, well intending, even intelligent, onlookers can bring perspective that informs a landscape, sure. They can, and do often, see the answers. But does that mean they have the ability to parlay their knowledge into messages with impact?

Denzel Washington, once in an Interview on SiriusXM that I’ll never forget watching, touched on this pickle. After directing August Wilson’s ‘Fences’, he spoke to the unique ability that exists in us all to resonate with the communities from which we came.

No one, he felt, could study another culture closely enough to understand its texture, its nuances, like a native. And in that, no one could touch emotional notes in a demographic audience quite like someone that shared its roots.

“Spielberg could’ve directed Goodfellas, Scorsese could’ve done a good job with Schindler’s List” he said. But it’s the deep, native cultural understanding that added dimension to those pieces.

It’s not that men can’t compel women, God knows they invented many-a-product that’d demonstrate the opposite. But there are limitations, and the watch industry’s failure to achieve its goal of adding droves of women to the bottom line is, in and of itself, evidence that its limitations had been met.

It was time for new blood, for new mouse traps, and I, for one, am glad the call was answered.

And let’s not forget, gentlemen, among the perks of the now expanded base, a whole world of us with mental filing cabinets full of horological history might have a bit more material for our next meet cute.

HALF A CENTURY OF ELEGANCE

Tiffany & Co. Celebrates 50 Years with Style Icon Elsa Peretti

Born into a successful Italian family, Elsa Peretti studied in Florence and Switzerland before a short career as an architect in Milan.

Shape and how it could be transformed into a static motion always fascinated her, so it wasn’t long before she started designing jewelry that she would wear for herself.

A natural beauty with a slender and tall frame, Peretti met a friend who encouraged her to try her hand at modeling in the late 60’s. In a short time, her new career brought her from the European catwalks to New York where she starred as a runway model while quietly producing jewelry for her own enjoyment… and for a few select friends. In the early 70’s she became part of the Studio 54 set that included designers like Halston,

Perry Ellis, Diane Von Furstenberg and Giorgio di Saint Angelo. Elsa was having the time of her life.

She convinced her friend di Saint Angelo to allow her and other models to wear some of her pieces in one of his early runway shows and she quickly had style leaders everywhere asking where they could buy them. Halston, who would become one of her constant collaborators, convinced her that jewelry design needed her inquisitive eye, and she should speak with the famous retailer, Tiffany & Co.

In 1974, Peretti would showcase what would become the retailers longest (and many would say) most successful collections. It is said that at one time, sales of Peretti designed pieces represented as much as 10% of the luxury retailer’s annual sales.

THE OPEN HEART PENDANT

Possibly the most beloved of her collections, the Open Heart pendant is elegantly pronounced, with just enough smooth curves and soft angles to make it “sexy” for women of all ages. Peretti credits the openness of the heart to the semi-abstract sculptures of Henry Moore, whose work included undulating forms transposed from the human body. The pendant, which gently hangs off-center is available in sterling, all shades of gold and embellished with sparkling diamonds.

THE BOTTLE DESIGN

Inspiration for Peretti’s work vary by design and by where her world of travel took her. Her first was the minimalist Bottle design, inspired by the ceramic carafes young Italian girls used to carry gardenias thru the seaside village of Portofino. Once created in metal, Peretti knew she had an elegant design that would carry her for years on end.

THE BEAN PENDANT

In its most simple form, the Bean pendant epitomizes Peretti’s focus on sedentary movement. By placing a hole on each end of the bean, a simple chain slides through it, bringing the piece it’s fluidity of movement. Again, just as the Open Heart did, the Bean became a piece of jewelry that woman could wear each and every day.

Peretti went on to create designs and styles modeled after Snakes and Scorpions, inspired by their nature but with adjustable lengths and latches that define them as uniquely Peretti: giving women the option of creativity in their jewelry.

In the 1980’s, Peretti focused on the textiles she so fondly remembered in Italy and Spain to create The Mesh Collection, an assortment of earrings and necklaces that mirrored gold, spun into a woven-like fabric. Elegant yet intricate, it has remained timeless and collectable.

DIAMONDS BY THE YARD

Drawing on Peretti’s love of powerful and independent women, like herself, Tiffany asked her to create a collection that could be attainable by most but include pieces that were aspirational as the customer became more established. For this, Peretti designed a simple necklace with 12 small diamonds spaced in uneven sections on a 36-inch chain, and as such became known as “Diamonds by The Yard.” Over the years, this became one of her collection icons as she began to vary the style by adding different sizes of diamonds and lengths of chain, and by doing so, met the desires of Tiffany to make diamonds wearable, versatile and accessible for its customers.

“You need to be able to go out on the street with your jewelry,” Ms. Peretti once told The

Wall

Street Journal. “Women can’t go around wearing $1 million.”

BONE AND SPLIT

Perhaps her most enduring collection is that launched by Tiffany in 2024 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of their partnership. The Bone and Split ring offerings are defined by sensuous contours that become one with the body, Tiffany describes the collection as “hallmarks of Elsa’s design ingenuity and craftsmanship”. Drawing inspiration from the groundbreaking Bone cuff design, first introduced in 1970, the rings are a nod to the sublime beauty found in nature. The sculptural form of the Bone cuff is drawn from Elsa’s visits as a young girl to a 17th-century Capuchin crypt in Rome and her time spent in Barcelona where she was inspired by Antoni Gaudí’s Casa Milà. Available in 18k yellow gold and sterling silver in both iterations, the designs create beautiful and bold statements for its customers. Adds Tiffany’s, “These unique creations pay homage to Elsa’s pioneering spirit.”

The collection and anniversary celebrations debuted in July 2024 globally in Tiffany stores including its newest Miami Design District monument that has set a new standard for luxury jewelry in Florida and of course its long established stalwart Worth Avenue location in Palm Beach.

Palm Beach Store Director Jeff Sabean, a 30-year veteran of fine jewelry in the Palm Beaches, says the Elsa Peretti / Tiffany relationship defines the luxury retailer in many ways. “Our Palm Beach customers have grown up with Elsa Peretti’s beautiful, simplistic, yet elegant designs, whether they be in affordable sterling silver or 18K gold and diamonds. We are proud to feature so many new and reinterpreted designs for our clients. I fell in love with Elsa’s designs when I first arrived at Tiffany fifteen years ago. So much so that the first item I bought my wife Gina who is Managing Director of CIBC Private Wealth in Palm Beach, was the 18kt Gold Bone Cuff. It is still one of our favorites today!”

Sabean has seen his customer base grow and become friends as the Palm Beach store has become part of the fabric of local social circles and charity events. “Palm Beach and all South Florida for that matter, has embraced the needs of its communities in so many ways. We are so fortunate to live in such a philanthropic region where our clients proactively become involved to help so many causes,” said Sabean. “Tiffany & Co. has been fortunate to be part of those efforts, and it doesn’t hurt that people love to dress up and wear beautiful jewelry to those events,” he adds with a smile.

“Certainly, the migration of many from the Northeast, either as a second residency or permanently has helped our business, said Sabean, and I can feel the comfort customers have when walking into our store. It’s clear the Tiffany customer knows of our reputation of quality, style and elegance.”

THE HÈRMES SCARF

An Object Of Historical Importance

Witten by Claire-Marie Schkéve

In 1937, one hundred years after the luxury house Hermès was founded, it created its first silk scarf, an item that is recognized worldwide as a symbol of wealth and style.

With over 50,000 actual references in its historic design library, the scarves are offered in six to eight color variations per design, with over 40 new designs offered each year and with a design process that takes as long as 2 years to bring a new design to market. Today, silks represent 7% of the company’s annual revenue of $13.5 billion.

The scarf, (along with the Hermès tie) which appeared in 1951, and all the house’s other silk objects, are made and finished by hand in the Hermès workshops situated in the Lyon area of France, the historic cradle of the French silk trade and textile industry.

Expert hands take care in every stage of the production process, from weaving, engraving, dyeing and printing the fabrics, to finishing and hand rolling the edge stitching. Over 800 people work on this product offering, which is part of the house’s Holding Textile Hermès division.

The scarf exudes instant recognizable style. Queen Elizabeth, Grace Kelly, Greta Garbo, Audry Hepburn, Luciano Pavarotti and scores of style icons have worn and collected the Hermes “carré”. It is a symbol of contemporary culture and impeccable style shared all over the globe.

Made from an exclusive silk twill, an incredibly soft material with a bright white quality, it’s serge weave gives it its specific hold and feel. Woven obliquely, the silk is crease-resistant and over time will soften and develop a wonderful patina.

Because of its roots as a saddle and bridal maker in the 1800’s, equestrian sport and proper is a theme most notable in many of the silks Hermès offers. One of the most famous is ‘Brides de Gala” designed by Hugo Grygkar in 1957. Its assortment of stirrups, bridals, reins, crops and bits have been reinturpretted and reinvented hundreds of times in colors and shapes unique in each display.

Probably the most interesting part of the design process of these textile gems comes from the roots of the artists Hermès commissions to create them. To date, Hermès has worked with well over 300 artists across the globe for the creation of one of their scarves. One such artist is Kermit Oliver of Waco, TX, Oliver began as a humble painter hoping to sell his art wherever he could. Like many artists, earning a living was a challenge for Oliver so he held down a full-time job as a US Postal worker and picked up his brush in the evenings and on weekends.

Oliver was first discovered by Lawrence and Shelby Marcus, the founders of the Dallas department store Neiman Marcus. Lawrence Marcus was notified of Hermès’ search for scarf designers and Oliver, whose art was previously purchased by Marcus, immediately came to mind. Oliver’s panache and his Flores et Flore du Texas design, a romantic vintage detailed depiction of the state for the sesquicentennial, quickly became a favorite of Hermès.

Oliver was known to paint from the outside in. A style unique for painters where the painter starts with his most vivid direction along the boarders and blends it seamlessly towards the middle. Some of his most famous designs included one whose boarder consisted of more than 50 native animals. Hermès’ purchase of this design and over 140 others, thereafter, made Kermit Oliver one of the best-known artists to design scarves for fashion house.

Offered in different squares, lengths and widths, the scarves have an incredible versatility to those who covet them. Possibilities for styling Hermès scarves are seemingly endless, from using a square to adorn the handle of a Birkin or Kelly, festooned to the pant waist as a belt or tied tight to the scalp as a headband. Social media users have created scores of videos on the many unique ways to wear or tie their scarves which number in the hundreds.

Collectable, coveted, adored and renown, the Hèrmes silk scarf may outlive us all.

BEHIND THE BRAND

CWD’s Journey to Equestrian Excellence

In the world of equestrian sports, where precision, performance, and passion reign supreme, CWD Saddles has emerged as a global icon. From international competition arenas to private barns, CWD’s name is synonymous with luxury and craftsmanship. But what sparked the birth of this prestigious brand, and how has it remained at the forefront of the industry?

The story begins in 1998, when CEO Laurent Duray recognized a gap in the market for premium equestrian equipment. His mission was to create products that combined artistry with performance. Starting with bridles, CWD quickly gained recognition for its superior craftsmanship and innovation, collaborating with top athletes to refine and perfect its products. This focus on excellence positioned CWD as a leader in the field.

In 2012, CWD joined the Leather In Motion (LIM) Group and earned the prestigious “Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant” (EPV) label, recognizing its artisanal expertise. Controlling every aspect of production, from conception to after-sales service, has cemented CWD's status as a global leader in equestrian luxury.

What sets CWD apart? The key lies in its control of the value chain. From sourcing ethically-produced hides to manufacturing, CWD ensures every step meets the highest standards. Their process begins in Birmingham, England, where advanced materials like Kevlar and carbon are incorporated into the saddle's design. The Dordogne workshops in France maintain artisanal integrity, ensuring every saddle blends aesthetics with performance.

CWD’s innovation goes beyond craftsmanship. Their global network of expert saddle fitters ensures that every rider and horse get a perfect, custom fit. The introduction of the FlexMotion line, with ergonomic designs that prioritize comfort and freedom of movement, exemplifies the brand’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of equestrian equipment.

Creating a custom-made saddle at CWD is a blend of art and science. The process involves understanding the biomechanics of both horse and rider to enhance performance. The fitting, overseen by a team of experts, merges science and craftsmanship. CWD’s revolutionary Optim tree, made from advanced composite materials, offers flexibility and comfort, allowing horse and rider to move as one.

Each saddle is crafted from the finest leather, designed to age gracefully and develop a unique patina over time. The result? Saddles that not only perform at the highest levels but also become a true extension of the horse and rider.

Maintaining a balance between tradition and innovation is key to CWD’s success. The company stays true to its roots in leather craftsmanship while embracing modern technology. Their sustainable sourcing practices, including a pure vegetal tanning process, ensure that every product is environmentally conscious without compromising quality. This method makes CWD saddles twice as resistant to UV rays, ensuring durability and beauty.

Ongoing research into materials like lightweight carbon fiber and advanced ergonomic designs keeps CWD

at the cutting edge of saddle innovation. The patented 2Gs Dynamick® tree, made entirely from composite materials, revolutionized saddle design by allowing it to move with the horse for optimal performance.

CWD’s close collaboration with top athletes is perhaps the most crucial factor in maintaining its status as a leader. Feedback from world-class riders has helped shape the brand’s products. Olympic champion Scott Brash and Grand Prix legend McLain Ward, among others, have praised CWD for its innovation and responsiveness.

McLain Ward explains, “They meet all needs,” reflecting the trust athletes place in CWD to enhance their performance. This sentiment is echoed by riders like Kent Farrington, who says, “Nothing is better than a good saddle,” and Georgina Bloomberg, who highlights how a well-designed saddle improves communication between horse and rider.

For CWD, the bond between horse and rider is at the heart of its mission. Saddle expert Julie Walters notes, “Watching riders connect through the saddle and improve their performance is what saddle fitting is all about.” This dedication to enhancing that connection is what sets CWD apart from other saddle makers.

As CWD continues to push the boundaries of equestrian technology, it remains firmly rooted in its values of quality, craftsmanship, and innovation. With a keen eye on both tradition and modernity, CWD is poised to lead the equestrian world for years to come, providing riders with the tools they need to achieve greatness.

CAPTURING THE SOUL OF HORSES

A Conversation with Equestrian Photographer Amy Lanigan

AMY LANIGAN’S JOURNEY INTO THE WORLD OF EQUESTRIAN PHOTOGRAPHY IS DEEPLY

ROOTED IN HER LOVE FOR HORSES, A PASSION CULTIVATED DURING HER CHILDHOOD ON A FARM IN OHIO. FROM HER EARLY DAYS WORKING IN THE THOROUGHBRED INDUSTRY TO HER EVOLUTION AS A RENOWNED PHOTOGRAPHER, AMY HAS DEVELOPED A UNIQUE APPROACH THAT CAPTURES THE BEAUTY AND ESSENCE OF BOTH HORSE AND RIDER.

IN THIS EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW, AMY SHARES INSIGHTS INTO HER CRAFT, HER LOVE FOR HORSES, AND THE EXPERIENCES THAT HAVE SHAPED HER CAREER.

Amy’s connection to horses began early in life, growing up on a farm where she was surrounded by animals and nature. “I’ve always loved the beauty of the horse,” Amy recalls. “I started working in the thoroughbred industry when I was around 19, and by my 30s, I was photographing horses commercially. The horse industry offers so many opportunities to see and capture beauty.”

Her background has undoubtedly influenced her photography, allowing her to combine a deep understanding of horses with her artistic talent. "Photographing horses came naturally because

of my familiarity with them. I understand how they move and respond, which helps in capturing those perfect moments."

When it comes to photographing horses and their riders, Amy believes in letting the natural relationship shine through. “Every relationship is different,” she explains. “I watch how a rider or groom interacts with the horse and try to capture that bond. It’s all about observing and finding the moments that feel authentic.”

This approach has allowed her to produce stunning images that resonate with her clients and the broader equestrian community.

One of Amy’s most cherished memories was her first major shoot at Coolmore Stud in Ireland. “It was one of my first big projects, and I felt incredibly honored to be invited to photograph there,” she says. The experience solidified her passion for equestrian photography and gave her the confidence to continue pursuing larger opportunities.

However, as with any profession, there are challenges. Amy shares that patience is key when working with both horses and people. “It can be time-consuming, especially if someone runs out of patience. But most of my clients are great, and we work through it together.”

Amy’s love for photography extends beyond the subject of horses. She is equally passionate about the technical side of her work, particularly when it comes to playing with light. “I love working with light, especially when there’s hard light and shadows. It’s fun to experiment with my settings and see what I can create,” she says.

Yet, in a business that often requires consistency, such as when capturing confirmation shots, Amy knows how to balance creativity with the need for uniformity. “Conformation shots are all about consistency, but the nature of the horse keeps things fresh and exciting.”

Through her years of photographing horses, Amy has gained a deeper understanding of their nature. “I’ve worked with horses for

so long, so I had a pretty solid base of knowledge before I started photographing them,” she explains. “But one thing that has become very evident to me over the years is how reactive horses are to the people handling them. It’s amazing to see how much they pick up on.”

While Amy primarily photographs thoroughbreds, her personal favorites are the Welsh ponies her daughters ride. She hasn’t yet had the chance to visit Wellington, but she hopes to one day experience the vibrant equestrian community the town is famous for.

As she looks toward the future of equestrian photography, Amy is excited about how technology will continue to shape the field. “Technology is always evolving, and it’s exciting to think about how it will influence equestrian photography. But for me, I’ll always strive to maintain a natural, authentic style, even as trends change.”

Amy Lanigan’s journey into equestrian photography is a testament to her love for horses and her dedication to capturing their unique beauty. Through patience, creativity, and a deep connection with her subjects, she continues to produce images that stand out in the world of equestrian art.

SAVORING JUPITER:

Chef Michael Rolchigo’s

Culinary Magic at Tavolena

Nestled in Jupiter, Florida, Tavolena shines as a beacon of inventive cuisine and refined taste. At the heart of this extraordinary dining experience is Chef Michael Rolchigo, whose deep passion for food and unwavering dedication to his craft have turned Tavolena into a must-visit destination. With each dish, Chef Michael offers diners the opportunity to savor the authentic flavors of his heritage, blending tradition with modern flair in a way that can only be described as culinary magic.

Raised in Utica, New York, Chef Michael discovered his love for cooking as a young boy, living just downstairs from his Italian grandmother, Lena Bello. He spent countless hours at her table, watching her create traditional meals for the family, internalizing her passion for food and the joy of bringing people together. Every meal Lena prepared was self-taught, rooted in her family’s traditions, and those recipes are still alive at Tavolena today. In fact, the restaurant is named after his beloved grandmother, whose influence extends far beyond the name – the private dining room features the very table where Chef Michael learned to cook in her upstairs apartment.

Chef Michael’s formal journey in the culinary world began when he attended the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, earning double degrees in both Culinary and Pastry Arts. His time in the industry, from the Players Club in Wellington to the acclaimed Krave in Tequesta, cemented his reputation as a talented and innovative chef. Tavolena is the culmination of years of honing his craft and a tribute to the familial roots that sparked his culinary passion.

At Tavolena, the menu celebrates Chef Michael’s Italian heritage, offering modern interpretations of Mediterranean and Italian classics, many of which are inspired by his grandmother’s original recipes. Guests are treated to the famous "Sunday Sauce" and her signature meatballs, while her handwritten pastry recipes live on through indulgent treats like the almond cookie, a dessert that

transports diners straight to Italy with its delicate flavor. “Cooking is all about love and simplicity,” Chef Michael says.

The restaurant’s décor, masterfully designed by Chef Michael’s wife, Lisa, mirrors the attention to detail found in each dish. Lisa, a talented designer, meticulously researched and incorporated elements that reflect both the Mediterranean and Roman influences behind Tavolena. The bar features stunning herringbone tile, a nod to the herringbone streets of ancient Rome, while books – reminiscent of those first bound by the Romans – decorate the shelves. Snake sconces hover over black-and-white photographs, adding a touch of Roman mythology, believed to ward off evil spirits. Every corner of the restaurant tells a story, creating an atmosphere as rich as the food it serves.

There’s a lot of love and magic woven into Tavolena, from the recipes passed down by Chef Michael’s grandmother to the personal touches honoring his late father, who lived to see the restaurant open before passing just three weeks after its grand debut. His proud father's dream of seeing Tavolena come to life became a reality, and the warm, familial energy that flows through the restaurant is palpable to every guest.

One of the standout features at Tavolena is the private dining room, an intimate, private dining experience where diners can sit at the same table that once graced his grandmother’s home. Here, guests can enjoy a curated meal while experiencing the nostalgia and love that inspired Chef Michael’s journey. For the very lucky, there are even two VIP seats in the kitchen, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the culinary magic in action.

Signature dishes like Chicken Riggies, a comfort food from Utica, and the luxurious Tagliatelle al Tartufo, in-season made with house-made pasta, truffles, and Parmesan, are just a few highlights of the menu. During truffle season, guests are treated to tableside white truffle shavings by Chef

Michael himself, donned in white gloves.

Tavolena’s ambiance strikes a perfect balance between modern elegance and welcoming warmth, making it an ideal spot for intimate dinners or celebratory gatherings. Chef Michael’s wife, Lisa, oversees the front of the house, ensuring that every guest feels like part of the Tavolena family, while the attentive staff completes the unforgettable dining experience.

Reservations at Tavolena are highly sought-after, often requiring a four-week wait during peak season, but for those who secure a table, it’s well worth the effort. “Our goal is to create lasting memories,” Chef Michael shares. “We want people to leave with not just a full stomach, but a full heart.”

With exciting plans for the future, including new culinary offerings, Chef Michael continues to innovate while staying deeply connected to his roots. Tavolena is more than just a restaurant – it’s a testament to the love, passion, and dedication that can be found in every dish, infused with the spirit of family and the culinary traditions that inspired it all.

THE TIMELESS APPEAL OF THE OLD-FASHIONED COCKTAIL

The story of the Old-Fashioned cocktail is one that resonates with today’s drinkers. Just as contemporary martini menus inspire debates about “classic versus modern,” this iconic drink once fueled spirited discussions in late 19th-century bars. Surprisingly, the Old-Fashioned was already considered “old-fashioned” over a hundred years ago.

In the 1880s, America’s cocktail culture was thriving with innovation. Bartenders experimented with exotic ingredients like curaçao, absinthe, syrups, and fresh fruit juices, quickly winning over the adventurous palates of the day. Yet, some drinkers longed for a simpler, more robust concoction reminiscent of the “good old days.” For these traditionalists, all the elaborate new mixtures seemed like an unnecessary distraction. Following numerous saloon debates and newspaper editorials, the term “Old-Fashioned” emerged to describe this straightforward, no-frills drink. It was officially named in Theodore Proulx’s 1888 “The Bartender’s Manual,” a guidebook from Chicago’s famed Chapin & Gore saloon.

Like many classic cocktails, the Old-Fashioned has evolved over the years. Originally, it was made with rye whiskey, which

offered a bold, spicy character. As the supply of quality rye dwindled in the mid-20th century, bourbon became the whiskey of choice for many Old-Fashioned enthusiasts. Today, while bourbon still remains a popular option, the resurgence of a diverse rye whiskey market provides a wonderful opportunity to enjoy this cocktail in its original form. The beauty of the Old-Fashioned lies in its versatility—almost any whiskey works well, making it a great way to showcase new discoveries or personal favorites.

The charm of the Old-Fashioned is its simplicity. The cocktail is designed to let the whiskey shine, with minimal additions. The best versions of this drink are crafted with care and high-quality ingredients. Beyond that, it’s all about personal preference.

An Old-Fashioned is one of the best ways to enhance the flavors of your favorite whiskey without overwhelming them. If you’re a purist, rye whiskey might be your go-to for its spicier notes. Alternatively, bourbon offers a sweeter, richer profile. Whatever your choice, the blend of sugar, bitters, and fruit complements the whiskey beautifully.

INGREDIENTS:

• 1 sugar cube or 1/2 teaspoon sugar • 3 dashes bitters • 2 ounces bourbon or rye whiskey • Orange peel, for garnish • Maraschino cherry, for garnish

TIPS FOR MIXING THE PERFECT OLD-FASHIONED:

1. Choose Quality Ingredients: The success of an Old-Fashioned largely depends on the quality of the whiskey. Opt for a bourbon or rye that you enjoy sipping neat. Fresh ingredients make a significant difference in the final flavor.

2. Muddle Gently: If using a sugar cube, muddle it with bitters and a few drops of water until the sugar is fully dissolved. Be gentle; you want to release the flavors without pulverizing the ingredients.

3. Stir, Don’t Shake: Stirring is essential to achieve the right balance of flavors and a smooth texture. Shaking can dilute and muddle the flavors. Aim for 30 seconds of stirring to chill and dilute the drink just enough.

4. Use Large Ice Cubes: Large ice cubes or a single large sphere will chill your drink without watering it down too quickly. This helps maintain the integrity of the whiskey’s flavor.

5. Garnish Thoughtfully: Express the orange peel over the drink to release its essential oils, then drop it in as a garnish. The Maraschino cherry adds a touch of sweetness and visual appeal.

6. Adjust to Taste: Feel free to tweak the sugar, bitters, or whiskey amounts to suit your personal preference. The beauty of the Old-Fashioned lies in its flexibility.

There are endless ways to personalize this cocktail. You can stick to the classic recipe, explore contemporary variations, or tweak it to suit your taste and the whiskey you have on hand. Whether you prefer to muddle or stir, add a splash of soda, experiment with different syrups, or incorporate unique fruit garnishes, the most important thing is to enjoy the process. Have fun exploring the options and make the Old-Fashioned your own!

Cheers to the timeless elegance of the Old-Fashioned!

INTRACOASTAL INSPIRATION: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Annie Santulli Designs

IN THE PICTURESQUE JUPITER, WHERE LUXURY MEETS THE INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY, ANNIE SANTULLI DESIGNS HAS ONCE AGAIN REDEFINED ELEGANCE WITH THEIR LATEST PROJECT: INTRACOASTAL INSPIRATION. THIS STUNNING PROPERTY IS A TESTAMENT TO SANTULLI’S UNIQUE ABILITY TO BLEND OPULENCE WITH PERSONAL TOUCH, CRAFTING SPACES THAT ARE NOT JUST BEAUTIFUL BUT DEEPLY MEANINGFUL.

Every project starts with a vision, but when you have a relationship as strong as Annie Santulli’s with her client, the process transcends mere design work. “Starting with a spectacular property is always a pleasure,” Santulli shares. “When you have a meeting of the minds like this, the project is no longer work at all.” The connection with her client turned this fourth project into a canvas for a truly special creation, where design flowed seamlessly from their shared vision.

The “aha” moment for Intracoastal Inspiration came from the property’s breathtaking Intracoastal views. Unlike the more typical oceanfront properties with their deep blues, the Intracoastal presents a lush, colorful palette. This extraordinary backdrop allowed Santulli to make bold choices in art, lighting, and fabrics, reflecting her client’s love for glamour and personality. “The colors of the Intracoastal gave us the freedom to be daring with our design,” she notes.

Selecting materials for this project was an exploration in luxurious textures. Santulli sourced custom fabrics and materials, incorporating smooth silks, alluring natural fibers, and soft velvets. These textiles, imbued with sparkle and radiance, catered to the client’s tactile desires and complemented the overall design with a touch of glamour.

Santulli’s deep understanding of her client’s style was pivotal. “Because of our long-standing relationship and high level of trust, I could take creative risks,” she explains. This freedom allowed for the inclusion of daring art and dramatic fixtures, resulting in a design that truly reflected her client’s personality.

Among the many standout features, the extra-wide blue flame glass wall fireplace is a highlight. Paired with oversized art in pink and blue hues, it creates a striking visual that reflects through the expansive windows. Inside the master bedroom, the platinum textiles, plush shag rug, and sparkling hand-blown crystal chandelier form a glamorous retreat that is both luxurious and inviting.

Santulli’s commitment to sustainability is evident in the project’s landscaping. Native plants and tropical varietals were chosen to thrive in the South Florida environment, ensuring minimal need for water and chemicals. This eco-friendly approach not only enhances the property’s visual appeal but also supports local ecosystems.

A standout feature of the design is the incorporation of alternative wine cellars. The client’s extensive wine collection is showcased in custom-built glass-walled cellars that double as a unique design element in the hallway. This trend merges functionality with aesthetics, turning a typical hallway into a focal point of the home.

For those looking to make a bold design statement, Santulli offers this unconventional advice: “Be brave, choose a designer you feel connected to, and take chances. Nothing is permanent, so be fearless.” This philosophy encapsulates the spirit of Intracoastal Inspiration and encourages homeowners to embrace creativity and personal expression. Intracoastal Inspiration is more than just a design project; it’s a celebration of personal connection, bold creativity, and luxurious living. Annie Santulli continues to set the standard for elegance and innovation, proving that great design is both an art and a deeply personal journey.

EQUESTRIAN

UNBRIDLED ELEGANCE

THE GLOBE’S TOP-RANKED, TWENTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD

DRESSAGE RIDER AND HER “DANCE PARTNER”

CAPTIVATE AUDIENCES WITH THEIR SIGNATURE BLEND OF POWER AND PLAYFULNESS.

With two European dressage championship titles under her belt and a coveted spot in the German U25 Dressage Squad, Felicitas Hendricks is a name poised to echo through the equestrian realm. At just twenty-four years old, Hendricks showcases an exceptional command of dressage, executing even the most intricate of movements with the finesse of a seasoned artist. Viewing the synchronization between the rider and her horse could, perhaps, best be described as witnessing a masterpiece in motion.

“The elegance and harmony of top dressage combinations has always inspired me,” Hendricks says. “The way they can make the hardest exercises look easy, smooth and effortless. I still have so much to learn, and I feel like every rider will be, or should be, in a forever-lasting learning process. From what I have learned so far though, harmony comes through communication. Perfecting the communication with your horse, creating a bond under saddle and on the ground, and understanding each other, will be essential for creating harmony.”

Hendricks credits her passion for the equestrian realm to her father—as well as her uncle and aunt, Christoph and Patricia Koschel, both renowned figures in professional dressage.

She fondly recalls receiving her first pony at the age of nine, and although she spent her childhood immersed in the world of horses, her interest in competition blossomed later on.

“They (Christoph and Patricia) invited me to come for riding holidays at their farm with my pony,” Hendricks reflects. “I then quite quickly fell in love with the competitive side of the sport, too. My uncle Christoph has always been my biggest inspiration. Everything I’ve learned, I learned from him. He manages to have every horse on his side and has a lot of patience when training horses, never becoming unfair in any kind of way. I always feel like the horses really enjoy working with him, and I admire that.”

A cornerstone of Hendrick's success is her equine companion of eighteen years, Drombusch. As spirited and vivacious as his rider, the chocolate-coated Oldenburg exudes an equal measure of regality, perfectly complementing Hendrick's determined nature. Hendricks adheres to a straightforward regimen, focusing on daily exercises encompassing strength training, conditioning, canter work, and a relentless emphasis on "transitions, transitions, transitions." She infuses Drombusch’s training routine with a sense of playfulness, often visiting the racetrack, as well as spending time on woodland trails and in wide open spaces.

“Drombusch has made all of this possible for me. Having produced him, together with my uncle Christoph, from a young horse all the way up to Grand Prix, has been more than just rewarding for me. We have managed to produce a happy and healthy athlete that is willing to give his all for me in the ring every single time.”

In the months ahead, the whirlwind of travel, competition, and excitement continues for the dressage champion. Despite her expanding collection of awards, Hendricks maintains a humble outlook, expressing gratitude for the

opportunity to pursue her dreams and further nurture her bond with Drombusch—both on and off the stage.

“Becoming double European champion in 2023 was for sure the cherry on top that made me extra proud,” Hendricks says. “I’m now looking forward to proving myself in the senior ranks and enjoying every ride with my Drombusch. My goal is to bring more young horses all the way up to Grand Prix. What I once called a hobby is now what I do for a living, and I could not be more grateful for that.”

Surrounded by Florida’s stunning natural landscapes, Cabot Citrus Farms is deeply committed to environmental stewardship. The

entire estate, including all golf courses and the surrounding built environment, is enrolled in Audubon International’s comprehensive Platinum Signature Sanctuary certification program, a testament to Cabot’s dedication to sustainable practices.

ESCAPE

UNVEILING THE BOCA RATON’S TIMELESS ELEGANCE

From Addison Mizner’s Vision to a $200 Million Transformation— Explore a Haven Where History and Modern Luxury Intertwine

For those seeking an indulgent retreat steeped in luxury, Boca Raton offers a perfect blend of history, elegance, and modern-day comforts. My recent visit to The Boca Raton was an experience that felt like stepping into another world—a glamorous one, where relaxation and refinement go hand in hand. But behind the glossy exterior lies a fascinating backstory, thanks to the flamboyant and eccentric visionary Addison Mizner, the man behind much of Boca Raton’s allure.

The Boca Raton, which has recently undergone a $200 million transformation, sits on 200 acres between a private

stretch of beachfront and Lake Boca Raton. It’s hard to imagine, but this sprawling resort was once just a 100-room inn, part of Mizner’s grand plan for a Mediterranean-style paradise in South Florida. Mizner, who made waves in the early 20th century, wasn’t just an architect—he was a larger-than-life character. With a pet monkey named Johnnie Brown perched on his shoulder, Mizner schmoozed with Palm Beach society, rubbing elbows with the likes of Irving Berlin and Elizabeth Arden, all while sketching out blueprints for some of the most iconic buildings in the area.

As I strolled through the palm-lined courtyards and passed the meticulously designed Mediterranean Revival architecture, I couldn’t help but appreciate Mizner’s legacy. His vision was grandiose—a utopian resort where the rich and famous could flock for sunshine, luxury, and the ultimate escape. The Boca Raton was the crown jewel of his vision, and though his development plans didn’t survive the Florida real estate crash of the 1920s, Mizner’s influence remains palpable today.

The Tower, where I stayed, is one of five luxury hotels on the property, each catering to a different type of guest. The design by the renowned Rockwell Group blends coastal themes with modern luxury, offering panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and South Florida’s coastline. My suite was a perfect haven with custom palm leaf-inspired carpets, warm wood accents, and light flooding in through floor-to-ceiling windows. Other options include The Bungalows which offer apartment-style accommodations with spacious two-bedroom suites, private entrances, and understated, elegant design. For an adults-only retreat, the Yacht Club sits on the lake, featuring all-suite rooms with eye-catching artwork and private butler service. The Cloisters, the most traditionally styled option with darkwood furnishings and subtle art, is conveniently located near the resort’s main attractions, including dining and shopping.

But the real showstopper? Spa Palmera. Awarded Five Stars by Forbes Travel Guide in 2023 and 2024, this 50,000-square-foot sanctuary is a destination in itself, inspired by Spain’s Alhambra Palace. The intricate mosaics, grand arches, and serene courtyard create a space that’s as visually stunning as it is soothing. The Royal Ritual—a luxurious soak in a candlelit tub with coconut milk, honey, and Himalayan salt—is a sensory experience that makes you forget the outside world even exists. The ritual baths are an absolute must— an indulgent 30- to 60-minute water circuit featuring an aroma bath, Swiss shower, plunge pool, and Jacuzzi that sets the stage for total relaxation. The spa’s Hydrotherapy Ritual, which echoes the Moroccan baths of the Alhambra, only deepened my sense of calm. Whether I was in the salt room, steam room, or Swiss Shower with 50 jets, every moment felt like a rebirth for my mind and body. I ended the spa day in the Jacuzzi, marveling at how a place so grand can still make you feel grounded. For a deeper connection to the Alhambra, the spa incorporates essential oils reminiscent of the original palace—like damask rose, yuzu and lemongrass, and amber and pine—into a variety of treatments, from customized massages to luxurious body therapies.

With an array of spa offerings designed for pure indulgence, nothing here is meant to be rushed. To fully immerse yourself in the Spa Palmera experience, plan to dedicate at least three to four hours of your day to unwind and rejuvenate.

Recently The Boca Raton has unveiled the Harborside Pool Club—a stunning lakeside paradise nestled among tropical palms. This vibrant oasis boasts three pools, a 450-foot floating river, water slides, luxury cabanas with personalized butler service, a Pool Bar offering cocktails and light bites, and the Banyan Bunch kids club, it’s great for families or take a short boat taxi to the private half-mile beach. Here you’ll notice not all beaches are created the same and we can’t wait for the unveiling of the new Beach Club in December.

Of course, no visit would be complete without a culinary journey, and the Japanese Bocce Club didn’t disappoint. Nestled under glowing lights strung among royal palms, this playful yet elegant restaurant offers world-class sushi, BBQ spare ribs, and Wagyu beef, all paired with inventive cocktails and sake. Dining here felt like the perfect way to cap off a day.

After dinner, a cocktail in The Palm Court is a must. It is the heart of social life at The Boca Raton. The space is a lush oasis of towering palms, soft lighting, and an air of relaxed glamour. Around me were couples savoring an evening out, well-heeled travelers discussing their yacht excursions, and groups of friends mingling over expertly crafted cocktails. It’s the type of place where you can sip a classic Negroni or a signature drink while listening to live music, all while people-watching. The crowd is a delightful mix of Palm Beach elites, vacationing families, and business moguls closing deals over martinis.

As I sipped my sake, I couldn’t help but think of Mizner, whose larger-than-life personality continues to color the resort’s DNA. Known for his eclectic tastes and outlandish habits (like attending soirées with his pet monkey), Mizner dreamed of creating a haven for the elite—a place where life was just a little more fabulous. And despite the setbacks of the 1920s Florida land bust and a few hurricanes, The Boca Raton has evolved into exactly that.

For those of us in Wellington, this glamorous getaway is just a short drive away. Whether you're seeking a weekend reset or a longer retreat, or perhaps being a member of the club The Boca Raton is an ideal spot to soak in some luxury, indulge in the best spa treatments Florida has to offer, and bask in the golden history that still echoes through its halls.

A THOROUGHBRED ON WHEELS

AFTER YEARS OF ANTICIPATION, FERRARI HAS UNVEILED THE PUROSANGUE, THE FIRST EVER FOUR-DOOR, FOUR-SEATER CAR IN THE PRANCING HORSE’S 75-YEAR HISTORY.

Since the marque’s earliest years, 2+2 cars (i.e. with two front and two smaller back seats) have played a significant role in its strategy. Many Ferraris have made combining benchmark performance with first class comfort one of the pillars of their success. Now, in the culmination of 75 years of leading-edge research, Ferrari has created a car that is unique on the world stage: not only do performance, driving pleasure and comfort coexist in perfect harmony, but it is also a peerless encapsulation of the Prancing Horse’s iconic DNA. This is the reason why the name Purosangue, Italian for ‘thoroughbred’, was chosen.

To achieve the ambitious goals set for this project and

create a car worthy of a place in its range, a completely different layout and innovative proportions compared to modern GT archetypes (so-called crossovers and SUVs) were adopted. The average modern GT’s engine is mounted forwards in the car, almost straddling the front axle with the gearbox coupled directly to it; this results in less than optimal weight distribution that delivers driving dynamics and driving pleasure well short of the standards of excellence to which Prancing Horse clients and enthusiasts have become accustomed. The Purosangue, on the other hand, has a mid-front-mounted engine with the gearbox at the rear to create a sporty transaxle layout.

The Purosangue stands head and shoulders above the rest of the market thanks to its performance and comfort. It is the only car with these proportions to sport a mid-frontmounted, naturally aspirated V12. Maranello’s most iconic engine debuts in this brand-new configuration to ensure the car unleashes more power than any other in the segment (725 cv) whilst guaranteeing the most enthralling Ferrari engine soundtrack. Furthermore, it can deliver 80% torque even at low revs.

Ferrari has also given the Purosangue the very latest iterations of the vehicle dynamic control systems, including independent four-wheel steering and ABS ‘evo’ with the 6-way Chassis Dynamic Sensor (6w-CDS). Making its world debut is the new Ferrari active suspension system. Effectively

controlling body roll in corners as well as the tire contact patch over high-frequency bumps to deliver the same performance and handling response as in one of the marque’s sports cars.

The all-new chassis has a carbon-fibre roof as standard to keep weight down and lower the center of gravity. Redesigning the bodyshell from scratch also meant the designers could incorporate rear-hinged back doors (welcome doors) to make ingress and egress easier while keeping the car as compact as possible. The cabin has four generous heated electric seats that will comfortably accommodate four adults. The boot is the largest ever seen on a Ferrari and the rear seats fold to increase the luggage space. Naturally enough, the Purosangue has a more commanding driving position than other Ferraris, but the configuration is the same as on every other Ferrari.

STYLING

Thanks to its unique modern architecture, the Purosangue is a versatile car that melds unparalleled comfort with Ferrari’s signature performance and driving pleasure. Translating Prancing Horse DNA into a car that is not only innovative for Maranello, but the entire automotive world, was a huge but exhilarating challenge for the Ferrari Styling Centre headed by Flavio Manzoni.

The Purosangue name beautifully describes the car’s architecture. Its sleek, athletic exterior sets it apart from other four-door, four-seater cars on the market. It drives with incredible ease and is extremely comfortable, luxuriously roomy and impeccably appointed in the cabin.

CABIN

The moment you close the door, you feel fast. Unlike other Ferrari models, this one site “up”. Still low to the ground, you do feel as though you are at a sport/SUV level but the difference here is you better hold on!

The cabin has meticulous design of both the space and furnishings as well as careful selection of the materials used to offer unprecedented occupant space and comfort for a Ferrari four-seater. The cabin looks and feels like an extremely elegant, sporty lounge. When the doors are opened, a surprisingly generous amount of space is revealed. Equally surprising is the sophisticated luxury of the interior which exudes a sense of both elegance and modernity. Modern design languages harmoniously combine with Ferrari’s signature GT sports car aesthetic. All of the forms are deliberately compact to optimize both the available space and its ergonomics.

The interior architecture is based on the dual cockpit dashboard concept which has been extended and replicated in the back of the car, creating four areas quite distinct in terms of their functionality, volumes, materials and colors. This principle drove the cabin’s composition which develops horizontally and seamlessly between the furnishings, making the space seem larger and keeping the volumes light and dynamic.

For the first time in Ferrari history, the cabin has four separate and independently adjustable seats. The integration of comfort-focused components, the use of variable density foams, and the new suspension system mean that the Purosangue

delivers unprecedented occupant comfort and a layout that exudes the sportiness and elegance typical of Ferrari’s design language. The heated backseats can be adjustable and reclined independently. When fully raked forwards, they significantly increase the Purosangue’s luggage capacity.

Bold, incredibly stylish, very Italian and with ample room for four, the Ferrari Purosangue says “La Familia” all over it.
