COLOR DU JOUR

MAKEUP STUDIO

& COLOR DU

JOUR LLC

Photographer: Josh Saulsberry (@colordujourphotography) Styling: Susan Depusoir (Kiss Runway Boutique) Interviewed By: Aiyanna McClendon & Kayla Woolen

BUSINESS TALK Tell us about how you started Color Du Jour Makeup Studio. I found my love for makeup at an early age. My family was a makeup wearing one. Learning how to put on make up was like learning how to cook (I definitely apply makeup better than cooking). Over the years, I would pick up skills from my aunt who was a model, and also watch my mother and grandmother put on their makeup every day. I was that student you would find doing their friend’s makeup in the bathroom for picture day, or playing volleyball with a full face of makeup. I never needed to get a makeup artist for homecoming/prom because either me or my aunt had that part handled. When I graduated and went to college; where I majored in Biology, I always made time to do my friend’s/classmates’ makeup for parties or events that took place on campus. I definitely got most of my practice achieved that way. Once I graduated from college in 2008, many of the same classmates and friends would come to my mom’s house to get their makeup done. At that time, makeup artistry wasn’t as popular, so I didn’t have the knowledge about the next steps involved in becoming a MUA. Honestly, I didn’t realize it was something I should be charging money for. Once my mother noticed the foot traffic in her house, she asked, “Well did you charge them? because you are using the makeup that I purchased for you.” After that, it sort of clicked. Within a couple of weeks my mother made me business cards and a few weeks later I started booking weddings. My mother initially gave my business the name “Unique Touch Makeup,” but shortly thereafter I changed the name because I felt that Unique Touch wasn’t quite unique enough. In 2009, I began offering services part-time under the new name, Color Du Jour while maintaining full-time employment as a 7th grade science teacher and volleyball coach. Four years later, I decided to “jump” into my passion full time. Issue 12 | 14

What does your business mean to you? I view makeup as an art form, treating each makeup application as unique as my clients themselves. I have an undeniable passion and vision to develop Color Du Jour into a unique beauty brand that services clients from all walks of life. Du Jour is derived from the French language meaning of the day. I wanted to make sure I chose a name for my brand that embodies what my company represents to me. To me it means that I am able to provide a makeup service to individuals of all walks of life for their particular day/occasion. One of my dreams was definitely to open up this makeup studio, because I saw Houston was in need of it. Houston needed an intimate setting for individuals to get their makeup done, as opposed to always relying on a publicly visible makeup counter. What services do you offer? At Color Du Jour Makeup Studio, I service individual clients and in-studio brides where they are welcome to utilize our front room as a bridal suite to get prepared for their big day. I also hold beginner and pro artistry classes where my students are able to learn techniques to improve their makeup application skillsets. Clients have expressed that they love the convenience of having multiple services offered in one place where, as opposed to booking multiple vendors throughout various locations. We also provide micro-blading services to our clients; which we added to our service list last year. In addition, we also offer a line of makeup brushes that we will be revamping this year, as well as skin care products.

You also have a photography business. Tell us more about Color Du Jour, LLC. Color Du Jour Photography was created by my husband Joshua Saulsberry. He is a CPA (Certified PublicAccountant) and takes care of the technical side of the business. When I started doing makeup, I would always ask him to take professional photos of my work. Over the years, he became an expert photographer and his clientele grew quickly. I am very picky when it comes to photography, and my husband has an excellent eye when it comes to capturing his clients. He specializes in portrait and wedding photography. With his demanding schedule, which includes many destination weddings and traveling, along with my schedule, there is never a dull moment. He is truly a renaissance man, and I am so blessed to have a husband that has been supportive of my dream and career choice. Why did you decide to start your own businesses? I started Color Du Jour because I wanted a business to call my own, and to work in a career that I am extremely passionate about. We spend so much of our lives working, and I wanted to be happy while I’m at work.I didn’t initially see myself as an entrepreneur, but I quickly became one after four short years of teaching. I adjusted to the role of an entrepreneur quite easily because I strive to operate in excellence. I have a creative spirit and constantly brainstorm new ideas to improve my brand. It’s where I am comfortable.

MORE ABOUT ALAINA What challenges do you face as an entrepreneur? A shorter question is what challenges do you not face? One of my biggest challenges is work life balance and keeping up with a demanding schedule. As an entrepreneur, another big challenge is making the right choices and investments in your business. I realize that no one has the answers to some of the problems we encounter, so I’m often left with following my intuition.

Where can people find your website & social media channels? Our company websites are: www.ColorDuJour.com, www.ColorDuJourPhotogrpahy.com Our social media handles are: @colordujour, @colordujourstudio and @colordujourphotography on Instagram and Facebook.

What has been your biggest tool for success? Word of mouth is definitely powerful. Social media is great, but most of the time, my clients come from referrals. When Instagram was more authentic, I didn’t need any other marketing strategies, because Instagram did the work for me. Now, I’m finding new ways to reach certain audiences on Instagram and outside of it as well. I also think placing my brand everywhere helps my brand stay relevant. The most important tool I use is customer service. I pride myself on providing the best service to my clients and I treat every client like a celebrity, because they are one to me.

"...I treat every client like a

celebrity, because they are

one to me."

F U N

F A C T S Go-to lipstick? I have too many to name. I love anything nude. I don’t care for too much color on the lips, because I love a bold eye. A bold eye with a bold lip looks good on some of my clients, but is too much for me. I like to have a balance on the face and when someone is looking at me, I want their eyes to focus on one area of the face. When I do wear a bold lip, I keep the eyes simple. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner? Breakfast, because that is the one meal I can cook well. LOL! Next would be Brunch. Who doesn’t love going to brunch? As a beauty professional, brunch gives us an experience we would normally get on a Saturday when we have back to back appointments. So, come Sunday if we don’t have a class or wedding, I am able to enjoy brunch and still have the rest of the day to get my errands done or simply relax.

Favorite thing to do in Houston, TX? I love food so we are constantly going out to eat. Being parents of a toddler, there’s not many activities we can all do together so we have to be creative. Our favorite places to eat are Turkey Leg Hut, Aka Sushi, and Grace’s. If it was up to my son we would be at home going over letters, words, and numbers. He’s addicted to learning which makes us really proud parents. Where do you get your inspiration? I get my inspiration from my family and friends, but most importantly, I get inspired by what's within me. I am blessed to have an amazing support system that cheers me on every step of the way in my journey as an entrepreneur. I inspire myself by constantly reading my daily affirmations. Sometimes we have to motivate ourselves to keep going and working towards our goals. My many conversations with God is the main thing that keeps me going and remaining balanced. I am where I am today because of my spiritual relationship with God.

"Sometimes we have

to motivate ourselves

to keep going and

working towards our

goals."

Tell us about 'The Mom Culture".

What sets 'The Mom Culture' apart from other brands?

Mom Culture is an online lifestyle brand and supportive community for mamas by mamas. All of our designs are inspired by my personal journey of motherhood. I try to embrace the salty/sweet sides of parenthood. By sharing our journey, it makes us relatable and creates a giant mom's group where we support our fellow mamakind.

I pride myself on being authentic, real, and relatable. We use about 90% customergenerated content for our website photos and Instagram feed. By being authentic, I like to personally respond to our customer comments and interact on a daily basis.

LIFESTYLE BRAND

& COMMUNITY:

THE MOM

CULTURE

BUSINESS TALK Why did you decide to start your own business?

What is your brand mission?

It was always a childhood dream to have my own shop. I've always loved being creative. After a traumatic and final pregnancy, I re-evaluated my life a lot. I had been out of the workforce for over six years at that time, focusing on my tiny humans, to be the best stay-at-home mama I could be. But, I still felt the need for something more. I had been sewing and making things for years and was encouraged by my husband and close family friends to begin selling my creations. Finally fulfilling my bucket list, I opened up my virtual shop doors in 2013. Dreams really do come true, but sometimes in a different form than you initially imagined. I always imagined having a brick-and-mortar shop, so online was a new thing for me. But, it's been the best leap of faith!

Our mission has evolved in the six years since we started this business. We realize the importance of genuine community. Our brand commitment is to support our fellow mamakind. By sharing real stories of trials and tribulations in daily motherhood, we help mothers feel close, even if it is a virtual/online community.

What is your favorite thing about being an entrepreneur? I like the flexibility. I can still be a hands-on mama and a boss babe. I like the ability to explore my creativity and make something out of an idea. As an entrepreneur, you can do it all...but not all by yourself. Along with creating items, I have also created jobs. I have an amazing team of women who work by my side everyday and we thrive off of each others' strengths and personalities.

What do you think it takes to #RaiseGoodHumans ? It takes a good human to raise a good human. Leading by example is the best way to show your children how to treat others. You can do everything "by the book", but parenthood can still be a crap shoot. Being honest with your children and teaching them good work ethics, it goes a long way, and is a good base to raise a good human, in my opinion.

"It takes a good human

to raise a good human."

MORE ABOUT SARAH

What's your greatest advice to mommas around the world?

Buy paper plates! In all seriousness, babyhood and childhood goes by really fast. As one of my favorite quotes says, "The days are long, but the years are short." Gretchen Rubin. You'll never regret holding your baby. The dishes, the housework, and the errands can wait. But, childhood doesn't wait. Looking back, you'll never regret the time you spent with your babies. Describe yourself in three words. Honest, quirky, and friendly. What event in your life has made you a stronger person? Sadly, I was raised by a mother who suffers from mental illness. This forced me to grow up faster than most and work hard to (literally) survive. It caused me to grow thick skin and learn how to become extremely resourceful and resilient. I wouldn't wish my upbringing on anyone, but it has shaped me into the woman and mother I am today.

Issue 12 | 26

Best part of being a momma? I love watching their personalities develop over time and the memories we make along the way. Greatest words to live by? "Treat others how you want to be treated". It's clichĂŠ, but I believe in karma.

STCAF

Best part of being a momma?

Go-to movie or TV series?

NUF

Friends! It makes me happy, no matter what mood I'm in. And I've seen it so many times, but it never gets old.

If you could trade lives with anyone for a day, who would it be and why? Blake Lively. We would love to spend time with our favorite ExhaustDad, Ryan Reynolds. He's hilarious and totally on-brand for us with his honest take on fatherhood. Where can people find your website or social media channels? ANGELA

Interviewed By: Aiyanna Mclendon & Kayla Woolen

LEWIS When did you know you wanted to be in the entertainment industry?

What has been your biggest accomplishment while working in the entertainment industry?

I’ve always known. It was a combination of being exposed to the arts at a very young age, having the instinct that I could do that, and my parents really supporting me in that desire - that form of expression. After a while, I realized that not only was I passionate about performing, but I had to put all of my eggs in that basket. I didn’t really know how to do anything else without completely starting over. This acting thing HAD to work!!

My biggest accomplishment has been learning, pretty quickly, that the industry is a machine. I can get out what I want out of the machine, but the machine does not make me happy. It does not, nor will it ever, sustain me. I feel grateful for that awareness, as I believe that oblivion to this is what has led to the downfall of a lot of talented and beautiful hearted people.

What's the greatest challenge you face as an actress? There’s no one way to do it. It’s a completely individualized path. You can’t carbon copy someone else’s path. You can try, but you’ll fail every time. You have to trust that as long as you’re putting in the hard work, discipline, and mastering your craft, that things are working out in your favor. It’s a constant self check-in. You gotta make sure you’re enjoying the journey, because the journey is long. Plus, there’s no real finish line. When you reach what you thought was the goal, you realize there’s so much more to your life and your career.

ACTRESS

ABOUT THE ACTRESS

What has been your favorite role that you've played so far? I have to say, Aunt Louie has been my favorite so far. She’s fun and extremely challenging in many ways. Being that tough, doesn’t come easy for me. Oh! And I once played a character named Sunny in a play called, Good Goods, by Christina Anderson, at Yale Repertory Theater. She was a cute, young woman, running away from an unwanted obligation, but towards love and adventure...really finding who she was in the world. Unfortunately, she became possessed by the spirit of an angry 6’5, 200 something pound misogynistic man. Whew, she was so much fun to play!! Can you tell I love a good challenge? How do you separate your own personality from the characters you play? I don’t really...unless the way I would say or do something is inappropriate for the character. It ends up being that the inspiration or motivation for a given action, thought or line is unseparated, but the output may be a little different. For instance, if Louie is feeling vulnerable, and says “Hi” to Jerome, there is no separation between how she and I feel. But, Louie might attempt to cover her vulnerability a little more than I normally would. What tools/activities would you recommend for aspiring actors/actresses to invest their time in? Class, class, and class. You should always be in a class. Try different classes, so that you figure out your own technique and your own flaws. Who’s really challenging you? What aspect of this thing are you really good at? Just stay in class...when you’re not working. Don’t be so afraid of the real world that you never go and get what’s yours. Class should give you wings.

Issue 12 | 33

How has acting aided in the development of your character?

Where can people find your website and social media channels?

Acting has made me a better listener, stronger, and constantly reminds me to act on my instincts. I am much more alive and much more compassionate, because of what I do for a living.

Twitter & Instagram: @luvangelalewis Facebook: Angela Lewis (actress)

What does a day in the life of Angela Lewis look like? There is no day in the life. Literally, every day is different. I wake up. I bring myself to conscious gratitude. Ideally, I meditate for 30-45 minutes (though sometimes, it’s 9 minutes), and my day reveals itself from there. Sometimes it’s crazy busy and I leave at 5:30 in the morning for work and don’t get home til past midnight. Sometimes, I chill around the house, creating things or scratching those little never ending tasks off my to-do list. You never know. Issue 12 | 34

STCAF NUF

What's your favorite thing to do in LA? Be at a beautiful beach, with the folks I love, laughing, and admiring God’s mystery.

If you had your on T.V. show, what would it be called?

What's on the top of your bucket list?

Ooh, that’s a good one. Uhhhh, “The Curious Adventures of the Goddess on The Train”.

Sky diving!

What's your favorite quote?

Do you have any fall time traditions? Not really. Though my daughter is due in September, so I imagine that will bring about some new traditions!

"I am." Sweet or savory? Sweet.

TORI

Interviewed By: Kayla Woolen

GERBIG How did you start Pink Lily Boutique. I started Pink Lily in 2013 initially as a Facebook group. I was selling clothes out of the trunk of my car and letting people come shop from my living room on the weekends. It grew so fast that I knew I had to create a website to make shopping easier. From there...our little at-home boutique became a multi-million dollar company within months! Why did you decide to start your own business? I've always wanted to be an entrepreneur and have my own business. I just didn't realize what that would be until after working a full time job for a few years after college. I've always wanted to be my own boss and have something to look back on in this life and be proud of.

Where did the name "Pink Lily" come from? My late grandmother loved flowers. She always had a beautiful flower garden in her yard and lilies were her favorite. She died a few years before I started Pink Lily, but I knew that I wanted to use the word "Lily" for her. I added "Pink" in front of Lily in honor of my mom who is a Breast Cancer survivor. So the name is inspired by two very important women from my life.

THE PINK LILY BOUTIQUE

BUSINESS TALK

How has social media played a role in your business? Social Media has been the #1 key component to growing our business. In the beginning, it was mostly Facebook. We ran contests and posted often. Now, it's leaning more towards Instagram and social media advertising!Influencers have also helped us gain a larger following over the years. What has been your biggest accomplishment at Pink Lily? I would say becoming an Inc. 5000 company after just 4 years in business. What sets Pink Lily apart from other retailers? One thing I feel sets us apart the most from other retailers is how much we allow our customers to be a part of our community, and see what goes on behind the scenes of this business. We have an exclusive Facebook and Instagram VIP page, and often do fun things for those followers. We have a Youtube channel and do Q&A's with myself, the models, and others on the team. We also have over 75 employees and around 70 of them are female! So we are building an empire with a female led company. Talk us through what your typical day looks like. My days are never the same. I travel often to LA or markets to buy products, and those weeks I handle my emails and daily tasks at night after the buying is over. The weeks I am in the office, I typically work on emails, weekly meetings with managers and the marketing and buying teams. Then I handle anything else that may arise throughout the day; which can be more than you'd expect most days.

Issue 12 | 50

MORE ABOUT TORI What's the biggest challenge you have faced as an entrepreneur?

What's your favorite part about owning your own boutique?

In the beginning, it was definitely people not believing that this dream could take off and be something. So many people thought my husband and I were insane for leaving our fulltime jobs to do this. Obviously, it worked out in our favor. But there has still been a ton of obstacles along the way. Paying for everything out of pocket is hard at times as an entrepreneur and typically banks aren't quick to give small business loans. You also have people that just don't take your business seriously for the first few years.

My favorite part would be that we get to add so many jobs to the community. With over 75 full-time employees now, we provide full benefits and pay to all of these families. We also work with our community and have donated over 150k in clothing to local schools and organizations in the last year. We also work quarterly with national organizations to give back and it's been so rewarding to do so!

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own business, but is scared to make the jump? Just do it. If you fail, then at least you can say you tried! But if it succeeds then you could be working for yourself one day and doing what you love! Issue 12 | 52

"Just do it. If you fail,

Jus a Girl BOSS BUILDING HER

empire

METALLICS FOR DAYS By: Yalda Kazemi Fall is upon us and that means a brand new set of fabulous fashion trends is here! This season, anything and everything from coordinated and belted suiting, to tweeds and dark florals, neons, and animal prints are in. But one trend easily outshines the rest with the arrival of all things metallic. Astronauts and space stations everywhere are in for a perplexing set of sightings as shiny, blingy and bright metallic looks take over the streets and runways this fall; leaving them with unexplainable spotting of bright light everywhere. Ok, maybe that’s a little extreme, but be prepared to spot an abundance of metallic fabrics, accents and accessories adorned not just during glamorous evening soirees, but flashing lustrous looks during the day as well. Pause. Stop. I’m certain that last sentence has some of you wondering if that even makes sense? What? How do you possibly wear metallics and sequins during the daytime? Did you read that correctly? Yes, you did, and yes, you can. So here are a few of my stylist tips on how to do so:

Issue 12 | 55

WORKING THE METALLICS Most people are weary of donning anything overly shiny and metallic to the office (or any work environment during the day). However, it’s actually quite easy to do, as long as you keep it to a minimum. They key is to only wear one article of clothing that is metallic, and balance everything out with neutral and solid bases or layers. You can easily wear a top with metallic threading or sheen to work by adding a solid piece on top to mute the extravagance of it. Pair your top with a solid blazer, jacket or cardigan, and a pair of dress pants, or solid skirt and you can easily transform the look into an office appropriate ensemble. Or better yet, incorporate bold metallic accessories into your look. Wear a dark pair of jeans, a white tee and black blazer for casual Fridays, and fire up the look with a pair of metallic shoes. You can also throw on a cozy sweater with a pleated skirt and a pair of metallic shoes or boots for a more feminine and trendy fall look. Lastly, add a bit of pizzazz to your typical work attire with a metallic bag, belt or statement necklace if you prefer to keep things a bit more subtle.

CASUAL BLING Probably my personal favourite way to wear metallic garments is to combine them with more casual attire to create a trendy and fun vibe. Pair your favourite metallic or sequined skirt with a simple or graphic tee, a denim jacket and a pair of runners for a unique take on casual wear. Swap the t-shirt for an oversized or off the shoulder sweater and a fall worthy hat (keeping the runners and fancy skirt) for a cozy glam look. Finally, go all out with a metallic dress and pair it with a denim or leather jacket; depending on whether you want a more feminine glam-casual or edgy glam-casual look.

Why did you decide to start BossBabe? Natalie: We wanted to create space for unapologetic women to connect, build, and grow. That has now grown into a platform that provides inspiration, information and resources for unapologetically ambitious women looking to start and scale their own businesses or level up their career. Tell us about getting started in creating your business. Natalie: I’ve been an entrepreneur since I was 13, I’m one of those clichés! One thing I realized very quickly that this journey could be so incredibly lonely -- no one seemed to understand what I was doing. As I was leaving University and deciding between a great graduate job offer or setting up a company, most people around me thought I was crazy for taking the leap and deciding to start a business. That business, which was manufacturing superfood supplements, took me over a year to get off the ground. I had no marketing budget and honestly, no idea what I was doing. In the 12 months that it took to get the supplements manufactured, I started to learn about social media and Instagram in particular. I grew that account and was able to ship to over 60 countries within the first few months and from there was in over 200 stores in the UK. With BossBabe, we get to work with both of those things: solving the loneliness aspect of entrepreneurship and using social media to build your business. Danielle is also a serial entrepreneur and she had her own Chiropractic clinics in the UK. Together, we realized we both wanted to solve the same problem but could do it in different ways: me with marketing and her with operations. What advice would you give to someone who is just starting out? Danielle + Natalie: Starting out can be scary and what we see a lot of is people being afraid, and that resulting in procrastination. Often they try and wait until everything is perfect. But my advice would be to realize that it will never be perfect, and 80% done is better than not being done at all. BUSINESS TALK Is there a particular moment or memory that stands out for you in creating BossBabe?

Tell us how you Co-CEO.

Danielle: Launching our membership, The Société was a huge moment for us. We’d planned to welcome just 500 members, but we closed the door with over 1500 members inside, we were over the moon! From there we’ve created a space that helps female entrepreneurs connect with one another, build their businesses, grow personally and professionally. It’s such an amazing and supportive community and we are really honored that we get to bring like-minded women together.

Danielle: We deliberately made the decision to CoCEO and it’s been the best decision for us and the brand. Natalie is focused on Marketing, whilst my expertise spans across Operations. The key to successfully pulling it off is communicating 24/7. Voice notes on Whatsapp have been a game changer, meaning even though we are on different times zones; I’m in London and Natalie is in Los Angeles, it’s so much quicker than writing an email and allows for more emotion. It helps us feel connected.

Natalie: Totally agree, I love The Société Boss Babes! Another huge moment for us was when we launched our Instagram Growth Accelerator course. I’d literally spent months compiling the most epic Instagram course using all of my knowledge from building @BossBabe.inc to over 1.3Million followers, so when we finally released it and the people were raving about it, it was the best feeling. It feels great to be able to show others exactly how to grow their own businesses in the same way we did. Issue 12 | 60

did."

DANIELLE What does being a "Boss Babe" mean to you? As we say at the beginning of all our podcasts “A Boss Babe is unapologetically ambitious and paves the way for herself and other women to rise. She is on a mission to be her best self (in all areas) confidently stepping outside her comfort zone to create her own version of success." What would your perfect vacation entail? Ooo good question, I’m not one to lay by the pool, so I’d say somewhere warm, where there is lots to see, good food and great company. What's the one food you can never bring yourself to eat? I actually really dislike soft drinks, I’m a H2O kind of girl. Or alcohol (laughs). What's your favorite movie? Forrest Gump! Now that’s a movie full of great life lessons. What actress would best play you in a movie about your life? When I was younger I was obsessed with Julia Roberts. She always had the most beautiful smile and is so used to playing strong willed women, so I’d love it to be her. Road trip or plane ? Plane for sure. Where can people find you? RIMESSA

ROSCIOLI ROME'S BEST KEPT SECRET RESTAURANT Written by: Angela Brickley

Rome is known for the history, culture and most importantly the food and wine. Why would you come to Rome without stuffing your face with some authentic pasta and good wine? If you've visited Rome and did not stop at Rimessa Roscioli then shame on you, and if you are planning on visiting Rome, then put it on your must-have list of restaurants to visit. After flying in from Amsterdam, my husband and I were super hungry, but we didn't want to just settle for the first place that we stumbled upon. So my husband decided to do some research, and found the best kept secret restaurant in Rome. So much so, that we actually hadn’t even booked our hotel yet, but waited until we finished eating first. In fact, upon arrival, the restaurant hadn’t even opened its doors for the day, but because we travelled so far to visit, they were so kind as to open earlier and allow us to dine in. We received by far the best service we have while visiting Italy (and we have travelled there more than three times already

After visiting Rimessa Roscioli for the first time, we returned multiple times during the course of our three day visit in Rome. It wasn’t only the food and wide variety of wine that amazed us, but the people at the restaurant themselves. Every time we stepped inside we felt like we walked into a close friend’s home and kitchen. We felt right at home and enjoyed conversing with the staff about various topics, including the next stop in our travel plans; Florence. We left for our train ride to Florence the next morning and loved the city, yet we couldn't help but day dream about the carbonara dish that we previously had at Rimessa Roscioli. Don't get me wrong, the food and wine was amazing in Florence as well, but we just had to go back for one more meal at Rimessa Roscioli before returning to the states. Of course, this final meal was even more amazing than the previous ones we had. This time we had indulged in a three-course meal and a small wine tasting. It was so divine that I am already dreaming about our next visit to Rome, just so we can pay a visit to our favorite restaurant in Italy. Issue 12 | 70

Since arriving back in the states, we have already recommended Rimessa Roscioli to two of our friends who will be visiting Italy, and have even gotten them reservations to dine there. Rimessa Roscioli is also known for their wine tours and they offer cooking classes as well. As I mentioned before, if you are visiting Rome, stop by our favorite restaurant, I promise you won't be disappointed..

DINNING AT

DE KAS

A UNIQUE TAKE ON FARM TO TABLEÂ WRITTEN BY: ANNA MEYER

If you’re looking for a restaurant that will give you the full ‘farm to table’ experience, you have to visit Restaurant De Kas located in the Netherlands. This restaurant, with its name literally meaning ‘greenhouse,’ is an Amsterdam-based restaurant, which cultivates their own vegetables. De Kas has a small greenhouse onsite, so you can walk through the tomato and cucumber plants before sitting down to eat dinner. Their actual gardens are located just outside of Amsterdam, where they pick the freshest vegetables every morning and use them to create a weekly changing menu. The two owners and chefs, Jos Timmer and Wim de Beer, use strictly Dutch products, combined with international flavors and techniques. You won’t be disappointed when eating at De Kas. From the tasty food to the gorgeous views, De Kas is a restaurant that should be on everyone’s bucket list.
