EDITORS NOTES Is there any where better to be in the winter than the south west of England? Our towns and countryside were made to be covered in blankets of snow. Along with winter comes Christmas and the various Christkindlmarkt’s that pop up all over the place including excellent examples in Cirencester, Cheltenham, Tewkesbury and one our favourites - Bath. They are abuzz with creativity and ideas for the home, much like this edition of Luxury Homes & Interiors. In here you will find design solutions and suggestions for all over your home as well as an exclusive look at the latest properties to come onto the market. Along with our usual contributors we welcome Mr Phil Spencer to the team, as he explains how exactly your garden and grounds can add to the value of your home. I do hope you enjoy this edition and it sees you through to the New Year.

A Grand Entrance Not only is the entrance hall the welcome into a home, but it sets the standard and mood for the rest of the house as well.
By Kelly Hoppen
E
ntrance halls create that first crucial impression. Whenever I come home, I look forward to experiencing the sense of wellbeing that my hall engenders. That is what you are designing for: the excited sense of homecoming. First impressions are lasting ones, and you do not get a second chance to create them. When you are designing, look at your home as a whole space, and imagine moving through and around it fluidly. Think about whether you are having wood or stone flooring, where this flooring leads and how it will work in conjunction with other rooms, as ultimately all rooms lead off the entrance hall. There must be flow and continuity between spaces to create harmony. Your hall is your hall, so use what you have and make the absolute best of it with wellplanned lighting and attention to detail. The hall must be practical, with a shelf or console for keys and bags, and cupboards for shoes and coats, but do always bring in that element of display with mirrors, flowers and objects. This is key to upping the sense of welcoming wow. As with entrance halls, remember to keep the flow of floor finishes harmonious throughout, as corridors link rooms to rooms. Work with, not against, the architecture of your home, and make much of textural contrast in your choice of materials and finishes. Slim floating display shelves do not intrude into this hallway, and the lighting underneath bounces off the polished wood floor, enhancing natural light. Colourful art by Nobuyoshi Araki lifts the monochromatic palette. A Promemoria Pierre stool is perfect for removing shoes. 6
COTSWOLD LUXURY
Lightwells in corridors are the ultimate luxury because the quality of light in the space is superb – pure, white, clean and fresh. Here a soft-grey oak floor with matching skirting boards expands the width of the corridor. FEATURE | A Grand Entrance
A textural feast in this chalet hallway includes wood-clad walls of horizontally laid planks in play with highly polished marble floors, gilt leaf-shaped vessels and a figurative stone sculpture. The effect draws the eye towards the main living spaces. Light plays a crucial role in this design, as the entrance hall is on the lower-ground floor – this lighting scheme sets off infinite reflections, giving the space dynamic energy despite the lack of natural light.
COTSWOLD LUXURY
7
The grid will be enormously helpful when you design the doorways and doors, and in how you finish skirting boards – in corridors they can be matched to either walls or floor equally effectively. I approach the lighting design for corridors as I would for any other space, in order to make the most of them, as often there is little, if any, natural light. Low-level lighting that throws light to the floors, then bounces up into the corridor is particularly inviting and beautiful, as well as being flattering. Corridors are spaces, not just roads through the house – sculpture, objects, star pieces of furniture and pictures can all be used to give these spaces personality and charm. Do not be surprised by how just one well-judged vessel with beautiful flowers or a plant can transform a corridor from feeling unloved into being warm and full of life.
Taken from Kelly Hoppen IDEAS: Creating a home for the way you live, Text by Sarah Stewart-Smith, photographs by Mel Yates, published by Jacqui Small at £30
HALLMARKERS •D esign for the wow-and-welcome factor, as well as for practicality; a hallway gives the first impression of the interior of your home.
The entrance hallway in my London home makes me smile every time I come home. The 1960s zinc mirrors from Philip Thomas are perfect for the space, striking just the right note of glamour. The long, slim double shelf allows me to display an ever-changing scene of flowers and objects. They are overlaid in this way because the house is in a crescent, and this was a great solution to disguising the curvature in the architecture. Nickel capping on the corners is a signature feature of the house – it is both highly practical and chic. The taupe poured-resin flooring runs throughout the ground floor.
8
COTSWOLD LUXURY
• Create continuity of floor finishes, so that your rooms will flow harmoniously from one into the other. • I have exterior doormats, but you can inset a black coir mat within the hall flooring inside the entrance if you wish.
The beauty of this space lies in the tone of colour and the almost metallic textural quality of the plaster walls in conjunction with the marble floor and giant Shield plant pot from DK Home, a bronze sculpture in its own right. The rectangular niche built into the curved wall creates a yin–yang balance and a perfect display point.
CORRIDORS
The roads through your home are not places where you spend long stretches of time, but you do use them constantly, so their design is no less important than that of the rooms themselves. They are the linking spaces, so your design choices – materials, finishes, lighting and furnishings – should be in keeping with the overall feel of your house.
The entrance hall of this listed house, where little could be changed because of legal restrictions, has been thoroughly modernized with a black-and-white palette, and centred and defined by placing a section of black oak within the Thassos white marble floor. The Monpas table provides the ideal spot for an impactful flower arrangement. The rest of the space is simply and beautifully finished with white-painted walls and a series of three Pearl pendants with crystal drops from CTO Lighting.

Garden Garden Garden FEATURE | Garden, Garden, Garden

COTSWOLD LUXURY
By Phil Spencer
If anybody knows anything about buying and selling homes it is TV’s Phil Spencer. He has been on our screens, with his co-host Kirstie Allsopp, for over ten years finding and locating the best homes in the country for the right budgets. Here he tells us about what a garden can add to the home and its value.
G
ardens are the new home extension, so make this valuable space work. The English have an out-and-out passion for gardens. No matter how much or little space you have, from a tiny city patio to a grander walled country garden, every square inch of coveted green land counts. Gardens are an antidote to the bustling, crazy life most of us lead these days. Being able to sit and enjoy a few minutes’ peace breathing in some fresh air in a sunny spot, or even simply just being able to look out at a garden, can regenerate the body and soul. The desire to create little Arcadias in our own back yards is part of the consciousness of those living in the British Isles. Rough and wild or planned and orderly, our gardens, roof terraces and other outdoor nooks are all part of our identity. The number of people who like
to visit great gardens like Sissinghurst in Kent, Barnsdale Gardens in Leicestershire and Castle Howard in Yorkshire always staggers me. Over 3 million belong to the National Trust in order to see gardens that cost £11 million per annum to maintain. This illustrates how the opportunity to possess even a sliver of the great outdoors is crucial. Recent research shows that Britons spend more than £5 billion per year on their gardens. Bling gardens are going out of favour, according to the latest statistics, which have recorded a drop in the sales of garden furniture and barbecues, while grow-your-own products and low-maintenance items for city gardens are in favour. People are more aware that a garden is a living thing and not just outdoor wallpaper. Less is more – with simpler designs – is the new garden mantra.
When questioned for a recent survey, 60 per cent of buyers felt that some form of outside space was important, and 78 per cent that owning some kind of garden at the back of a property raised a home’s value by 15 per cent or more. A quarter of those interviewed believed a garden upped the value by over 20 per cent. Some of the most prized features are: a spacious garden, easy maintenance, ready-made entertaining areas and mature shrubbery. Keep in mind that the front garden is the first thing people see when they arrive at your home. Apparently, men, in particular, are put off by a garden that isn’t well looked after. It is probably the thought of spending every weekend battling with outof-control shrubbery, overgrown lawns and crumbling outbuildings that puts them off.
Country Gardens Most wannabe purchasers hunting for a farmhouse in the country would expect a decent-sized garden to come with the property. Most would want a generous lawn, flowerbeds, shrubbery, trees and a vegetable patch. At the very least, a rural home should off er a bit more space than a town garden to justify moving out of town into the countryside. And in these times, when people are keen to grow their own produce for health reasons or to save a bit of cash, having access to their very own vegetable patch is moving higher up the wish list. Even those with green fingers might baulk at a massive country garden that is complicated to tend. Ease of maintenance is good, so consider putting in an irrigation system if starting from
scratch. Or at least carry out the research to supply information on how it could be done and what it would cost. Raised beds are another good idea – they are easy to access and the garden tends to run less wild if you have them edged with wood or barleycorns (Victorian stone tiles). Is your garden level? Some gardens spread over one or more tiers, which can look attractive but might put people off when it comes to mowing, edging and climbing up and down. I think people like level gardens, largely for ease of maintenance, particularly if they are laid to lawn. Just like houses, spend money on the structure of the garden if you can. Buying lots of expensive plants might add less value than working out where a good big feature
tree can go, along with a patio and pathways. As a property finder, I know that potential buyers are rarely keen to go back for a second viewing to a place with a neglected garden – unless it goes with a house that is a bit of a ruin and they think they can make money upgrading both. Often, people love the house, but they don’t love the garden – so they don’t buy the house. Another no-no is concreting over a garden. It is depressing and will alienate most buyers.

Spectacular design and a clear conscience When regattas are staged on the Thames in summer, Stefanie and Neil Jackson and their two children shout encouragement to the rowers from the bank, since their new home is on the second row, just a stone’s throw from the river.
T
hey live in Marlow, a small town with about 14,000 residents, 30 miles west of London. Thanks to its setting on the banks of England’s second longest river, the outstanding transport links to the capital (the journey takes just a good forty-five minutes if the traffic is light) it ranks amongst the most sought-after places to live in England. In contrast to their immediate neighbours, who live in a half-timbered Victorian house, the American and her British husband wanted to live in a brand new house. As enthusiastic viewers of “Grand Designs”, a television programme broadcast on British television presenting unusual private-sector dwellings since 1999, and as readers of the journal of the same name, 44

they came across Baufritz as a result of an article they read in it. Then Stefanie and Neil Jackson visited the office in Cambridge. The fact that Baufritz only uses non-toxic building materials and the energy balance of its houses is so outstanding were so impressive for both of them, that the pair decided to have a house built by the house building company in the Alllgäu. “Because our children are still small it is important for us that they grow up, at home at least, without being exposed to dangerous substances”, explained Stefanie. “Besides which, we want to build a house bearing sustainability in mind for ecological reasons and even trap CO2 with our house.”

As an aficionado of architecture the design had to be modern for the business-owning family – he manages a logistics company. To ensure that everything went smoothly on site Baufritz contracted an experienced architect who had already been working for Baufritz for several years. He will also be submitting the draft planning to the authorities. The Jacksons only travelled to Bavaria once on a fact-finding mission. They will never forget the day on which the first of a total of eleven container lorries packed with house components drove up to the site. All the neighbours had been forewarned since the lorries made it impossible for any other vehicles to park, let alone drive or turn in the one-way street. It only took three days before the building was weatherproof and the work on fixtures and fittings could begin. For the onlookers and others the scene could have come straight from a film.
The building supervisory authorities approved the luxurious new house because there had already been a bungalow on the 1,100 square metre site. However, they only allowed the larger living space of almost 290 square meters on two storeys because the new home had a flat roof like the bungalow. The wangles and dodges allowing the right hand side of the building to overhang towards the road and to have a diagonal wall leading in towards the front door, give the house character. Staggered lines along the length of the house and to the garden create an exciting field of vision. Organic mineral rendering covers the walls to maximum thermal insulation standards. The house is built around the loadbearing framework of German kiln-dried structural solid wood. The organic “HOIZ” made of wood shavings either produced in making the house components or from inspected FSC certified wood growers. It is the top natural insulation material in the world to be awarded the coveted “Cradle to Cradle”certification. The EPEA-Institut (Environmental Protection Encouragement Agency) in Hamburg under the management of Professor Michael Braungart only awards the accolade for products which are sustainable from Cradle to Cradle and which do not harm the environment, nature or mankind in any way and which can be recycled at the end of their useful service life. Baufritz uses natural whey for fire prevention and sodalye is used as a fungicide. Deeper foundations are required by building law in this area, to protect the building from flooding should the Thames burst its banks. Three outside doors provide access from the site to the raised ground floor of the house. The impressive entrance hall serves as a central focus of the house. A leaf-door leads from there into the family room, which is to be used as a television room. Another sliding door leads into
46

the library. Besides this door there is a cloakroom and a guest WC. Thanks to almost ten square metres of windows in the roof lighting the entire stairwell, and the balustrade of safety glass the entrance hall is an architectonic eye-catcher. The open-plan kitchen, dining and living area also benefit from the incidence of light. Along the entire width of the house floor to ceiling windows, triple glazing of course, separate indoors from outdoors. They also benefit from the warmth of the sun since they are south-facing. The Jacksons only allowed brickwork for the fire place. A mounted steel cross in front of a section of glass by the dining table was required to provide static support to allow the enormous spans. The Jacksons furnished the entrance level sparingly in order not to impair the extensive lines of sight. Their two-storey cube is a conscious antithesis to many half-timbered houses characterised by their small windows and rooms.
The healthy living architecture is continued with the fixtures and fittings. All walls are painted with organic paint, the flooring consists of oiled wooden floorboards or slate. The Jacksons had several cupboards made from solid wood by a joiner working on behalf of Baufritz. Upstairs there is the main bedroom with a separate dressing room and two bedrooms for the children overlooking the garden. The design of the three bathrooms is particularly clever. In addition to outside windows, all of them also have a light strip to the gallery which makes them even lighter. The office and guest rooms overlook the road. As a result of the sustainable method of construction the Jackson’s new home will be making an active contribution to protecting the climate, since it absorbs more than 40 tons of CO2 over the longer term. The aim of the sophisticated energy concept is to harm the environment as little as possible. Solar collectors heat up the used water. Photovoltaic panels generate electricity and a controlled ventilation unit with waste heat recovery exploits the heat energy of the gas therms. The Jacksons collect rainwater for flushing the toilets and for watering their garden!

With a number of stores in the Cotswolds – each staffed by experts passionate about finding the right solutions for every project – you really are spoilt for choice. Fired Earth is perhaps best known for its beautiful tiles. Collections include handcrafted English-made decorative tiles, iridescent glass mosaics, timeless stone flooring, hardwearing porcelain and reclaimed terracotta. But it’s not just tiles for which the company is renowned. It has three paint ranges – one produced in collaboration with the National Trust as well as stunning kitchen and bathroom collections and a unique range of contemporary wallpaper. The team at Fired Earth work tirelessly to ensure everything it offers is relevant and extensive and, with this in mind, they continually source new and interesting products. Particularly notable are the new stone ranges. The Hamptons collection, inspired by America’s East Coast, is made up of timeless sumptuous marble, which is both tactile and a joy to look at. Each piece that makes it into the range has been carefully sourced and considered before being allowed in. This is particularly noticeable in the new Marble and Diffusion Stone collection, which is made up of beautiful limestones and travertines. Whether you’re simply looking to brighten up a room with a lick of paint or are planning a major renovation, Fired Earth can help. And with design services, a bespoke marble service or simply informal advice in store, you really are in safe hands. Aeon prides itself on spearheading innovation, introducing this year a new concept in designer radiators, Twister. In this revolutionary design the nine flat fronted stainless steel radiator tubes have been twisted along their entire metre length, having been mirror polished on one side and finished in brushed satin effect on the other. Variations on Twister include models with 180, 360 and 720 degree twists. Twisting each tube increases water flow via a subterfuge effect, increasing radiator efficiency. Aeon radiators range from small towel warmers to the mighty 31,611 Btu (9,254 Watt) output Millennium. Every radiator is hand-finished to create the collections’ stunning ‘metal in the raw’ brushed or mirror finish stainless steel effect. The craftsmanship and quality of Aeon Radiator Heaven products is such that a 20 year guarantee applies across the range. FEATURE | The Design Practice
Where eagles dare... The team at Cheshire Luxury talk to The Design Practice at Uber about their latest mammoth interior architecture and design project at the highly prestigious Gleneagles golf course, and find out what is involved with a project of this magnitude.
The Design Brief To create an enviable country retreat centered around entertaining guests with lavish parties and relaxing getaway breaks. With an open plan feel ,yet contradictory intimate and cozy spaces using many natural materials where possible. To capture, respect and compliment the house’s position in one of the most world famous respected locations of Scotland: the Gleneagles golf course, along with roaming wildlife. COTSWOLD LUXURY
55
56
COTSWOLD LUXURY
The project described A substantial new build property nestled between neighbours overlooking the famous Gleneagles golf course with breathtaking views of nature and wildlife. A grand master bed suite with balcony and 6 further individually designed ensuite bedrooms. A lavish entertaining hall with glass viewing balcony and incorporating a solid stone toped bar. There are various snugs, a sauna, steam room, gym facilities and of course the obligatory golf clubs room and owners wine cellar. Built with all the latest eco advances and intelligent technology for lighting and security and with sound in every room (using iPads for control). All integrated discretely of course.
If the Scottish weather kicks up a storm there’s always the indoor golf simulator to keep you in full swing – or the ‘floating stag’s head’ bar for that matter! Challenges There were challenges – akin to many projects of this scale - not the least logistics of a build in Scotland, but The Design Practice revel in a challenge. To highlight one example the drainage system was precast early on in the build. It meant for some thought around constrictions later on in the design process where the proportions left little space for lighting, air conditioning and the several miles of plumbing pipe work.
Favourite / Key areas of the project The sheer scale of the two and a half storey entertaining hall takes some beating as it easily envelops ornate, 8ft tall floor lamps, flanking the traditional stone fireplace. Even the viewing balcony seems appropriately scaled to take in the views of partying guests below the wooden A-frame roof trusses. The centre piece doors in the entertaining hall are a grand and foreboding site. Clad in deep faux leather with antique bronze studs around the perimeter, but it’s the spear-like shell handles in deep anthracite which set the tones of nature’s grandeur that is a recurring theme throughout… take a breath before swinging through to the next experience. COTSWOLD LUXURY
57
It’s hard to pick what to describe for fear of leaving out equally worthy mentions. But this ski chalet-come-entertainment lodge has luxurious touches everywhere and yet its whole remains accessible with a refined grandeur in a very modern setting. The use of local materials such as stone and oak cladding and exposed timber structure help soften the sheer scale of some of the open plan layout helping lend a warm and tactile atmosphere despite the glimpses of double height vaulted ceilings. Each of the seven bedrooms and ensuites has a differing design on a similar theme. The over sized wooden headboards with individual patterns - some diamond, some striped and varying materials - are one of our most enjoyed touches as they capture the eye immediately and set the mood. Centre piece in the entrance hall and backing on to the dining hall table is an almost artistic installment of a ‘Tree sofa’. Cut from one trunk this gigantic seating arrangement strikes a fabulous talking point for dinner guests. Why does the design work so well? The property doesn’t try to be over glamorous (which could have easily been the brief).
58
COTSWOLD LUXURY
Instead it complements the surroundings with such harmonious materials it makes you feel instantly relaxed and in tune with the setting. The smoke oak wood used in abundance, the respect of the craftsmen from all discaplines and local materials have come together effortlessly to create a house which will stand the test of time and give generations fulfilling mix of contemporary grand living and cosy charm. Final thoughts There are subtle hints of the location and its Scottish roots in every room. Paired with the loving touch of craftsmen and exceptional detailing give this property a beauty that matches the location and views. If you require a modest room modernisation, or have grand plans for an exceptional residence our team helps clients stamp a completely individual mark on their surroundings. From the classically elegant to the non-conformist, we enhance lifestyles and property values in the process whilst remaining transparent and good commercial value for money. Doing things differently ...is what we are good at. Tired of hearing how the market has slowed down and things just aren’t selling? Our most recent sale had an offer accepted after being on the market for less than three weeks and completed in less than six. This is due to our unique approach to property marketing and our exclusive “Advanced Property Marketing” consultancy service that is complimentary to our customers. Our main focus is on selling and letting gorgeous Cotswold properties. We pride ourselves in combining good old fashioned service with totally modern and up to date technology so that we can provide our customers with the best possible advantage. Our new website has a unique search feature which makes it easy to find exactly what you want, and quickly! Many of our properties don’t go on-line as they are sold or let very quickly, so if you are looking for a new home or want to sell yours quickly, do call us with your ‘wish list’. Although our offices are in Cirencester; our specialty is select and outstanding properties in the surrounding villages, typically rural and much loved Cotswold homes. It is our passion for this outstanding corner of the country, our people, exclusive properties plus our depth of local knowledge that make us the company we are today. Traditionally, our business has been via personal recommendation and word of mouth. The object of the exercise as far as we are concerned is to sell your house, not fill our window display with ‘stock’ that nobody is buying. If we are not confident that we can sell or let you house quickly (thus saving you money and stress), we will tell you so. We are honest and will tell it to you straight. Doing things differently is what we are good at. Not everybody is ready for it. But it works. Cavendish Green is a Leading Independent Estate Agent based in the Cotswolds. SOLD!
How to sell your house for the highest price – in the shortest time! Why has your house been on the market for months now with no viewings, let alone offers? Why is it that 50% fewer houses sold last year? During the pre-boom years when my partner Simon and I were happily buying up properties we were lucky enough to have worked with some excellent estate agents. I have never understood the universal hatred most people harbour towards the industry. If someone facilitates what you want - be it your dream home or a good addition to your investment portfolio - how can that be a bad thing? The key is understanding how the industry works. Selling your home, changing your job, a divorce or relationship break up or family death are all at the top of the list when it comes to stressful life experiences. Unfortunately they often happen simultaneously, thus compounding the anxiety and uncertainty. Very often home-sellers are not prepared for the emotional and financial consequences of what should - and can be - a very straightforward and simple transaction. Some people may only sell a house once or twice in a lifetime so the process can feel like a minefield, especially in today’s economic climate. The peaks and troughs of the housing market means that last time you sold the house may be very different from selling now. It is much more of a science here in the Cotswolds, too, when your house is unique, individual and not a carbon copy of the one next door. New tactics have never been more essential if you need or want to sell your house now. Strategies that worked in the rising market at the start of the century absolutely will not work today. The days when you can choose an estate agent
who will stick a sign in your front garden, post an advert in the local paper and sit back and wait are long gone. You need a totally new approach. Selling your most valuable and treasured possession and getting the best price for it is not difficult. That’s why I wrote this book – a practical guide on how to get your house SOLD. SOLD will give you a treasure chest of practical strategies that will get your house sold quickly and for the best price. You will learn: •
why determining the right price is so critical
•
how to determine your asking price using a step by step process
•
using the free tools available on the internet
•
why multi agency selling strategy does not work
•
how to be chain-free cash buyer

Not many companies can make claims that their products are in over 10,000 homes around the UK but this is the case with Montpellier Marble and their wonderful fire surrounds. But fireplaces are only part of the story. In recent years Montpellier has diversified into natural stone flooring, bathrooms, kitchen work surfaces and specialist fires. The company is now a one-stop destination for stone and fireplaces in both residential and commercial projects. The recently Country Home Project #307 is featured on these pages is an example of a Montpellier Home; one of several such projects undertaken. The French Limestone flooring, quartz and stone wall-cladding for the bathrooms and kitchen worktops were all supplied by Montpellier as well as the bespoke fireplaces. The company worked closely with John Nash Interiors of Ledbury on this project and regularly collaborates with architects and interior designers on client projects to help realise their vision of a dream home.

“From my perspective this business is about surprising my clients by giving them exactly what they thought was impossible with the budget they wanted to spend – nothing is more important. It’s not just about just designing an interesting space; it’s about a carefully considered choice of product. Spending money where it counts really really matters, equally pulling back the reigns, without jeopardising the quality of the product is paramount”. “We are proud and continue to bring dreams to life, showing that, what’s usually the smallest room in the house, can become a very beautiful place to be”. 180 TOP BRANDS UNDER ONE ROOF

COTSWOLD LUXURY
Since Chaplins opened it’s doors almost 20 years ago it has showcased and delivered the very best in style, quality and service to a long list of discerning clientele, introducing many international brands to the UK market first. Spread over 25’000 square feet, Chaplins scour the international design scene to display over 180 of the biggest and most exciting European furniture and lighting brands including B&B Italia, Cassina, Ligne Roset, Molteni & C and Reflex Angelo, to name but a few. All these wonderful collections are held under one roof, making it an inspiring one-stop solution for your entire home furnishing needs. Managing Director, Simon Chaplin is the second generation to take control of what is a family run business. Simon’s fascination stems back to his youth, “I was fortunate enough to grow up in a furniture family so even though I was not working, I was learning through osmosis!” Simon’s vision when taking over the Chaplins dynasty was to not only showcase the largest retail space showing high-end contemporary furniture and design in the UK, but to also build a concierge service around it, offering their clients a fully tailored package from the building stage to the finishing touches. He goes on to explain, “Running a business enables me to build a team that I value who share the same design ethos. Furniture runs in my blood, It is not a business for numbers although they always have to add up! It is a business that has to be led by passion or the end result will reflect this.” As an independent run store all Chaplins staff have a background in design and are qualified to give you the fullest possible assistance, which is friendly, expert and efficient, taking your personal wishes into account. Simon goes on to say, “The love of design can be seen in every element of our customers’ lives, from the cars they

drive to the watches they wear to the houses they live in. It is our skill of interpretation using these outwards signs which enable us to connect with our client base.” COTSWOLD LUXURY

When asked what makes Chaplins unique to other furniture stores Simon explains “Working with over 150 design houses, it allows us to edit collections rather than be dictated to by a single brand as many furniture stores around Europe are. This reflects in the individuality of our displays and crosses over to our client’s homes. At Chaplins we enjoy a freedom to express our love for design and to push boundaries and trends quickly, without having to run through and constantly analyse figures.”

If all the fabulous pieces on display in this design heaven proves too much for you, Chaplins also offer a ‘Home Design Service’ as many of their elegant storage systems for bedrooms and offices require an expert level of planning, which naturally they provide. This includes full floor plans, plus delivery and installation which is always carried out by their own team of fully trained fitters who know how to handle furniture and realise the importance of each piece, protecting and caring for it throughout delivery and installation as if it was their own. As well as working on projects throughout the UK, Chaplins work all over the world. Liasing with designers and architects on various sized projects. Recent projects have included a 40 million Euro home in Cap Ferrat, South of France and 68,000 sq ft mansion in Dubai. However they are just at home working on a TV room in the quiet suburbs, which surround them. So what does Simon predict will be the next big trend in contemporary furniture design? “I’d like to think great interiors are timeless. An interior should reflect an individual’s personality and lifestyle more than current trends.” Although Chaplins are very proud of their showrooms in Hatch End, Middlesex

What sets Truly Bespoke apart from other fitted furniture suppliers? Like the name suggests, we truly are bespoke.
Our furniture is manufactured from our workshop between Bath and Bristol. We use traditional techniques and modern technology to create hi quality, furniture sourcing the best materials, (wood veneers, solid wood, solid acrylic, recycled glass, Corian) no foil wraps or vinyl. We can create any door style, size combination of colours and textures. The other element that is rare, is Zoe, Design Director, she will design the space, not just plan it!! It is important that the layout and storage works for the client and their way of living. Consideration and assistance will also be given to lighting, colour, texture, and general ambience. Accessories and soft furnishings can also be sourced. Zoe instructs the workshop and can hand pick materials if required. Zoe also oversees installation and can be on hand to visit site when necessary. In previous jobs she was an office based designer but feels her input is necessary throughout to achieve the high level of quality she expects. For this reason only one installation is booked at any one time. She will give you her full attention. Zoë’s own passions are reflected in her diverse styles, her love of Art Deco and wood veneers, Charles Rennie mackintosh with carved work and stained glass, Retro simplicity with hi gloss acrylic combined with wood. In order to design the layout accurate dimensions will be required (including floor to ceiling height) and a rough position of existing or intended services. A site survey can be carried out for this purpose. The next step is to produce elevation drawings, a services schedule, mood board and visuals. Not only should this excite you and ensure you that you have decided your finished spec, it is a vital tool for architects builders and installers. If you choose to have us install your furniture, you can relax in the knowledge that your room will be completed to a high standard, within the latest regulations stated and as efficiently as possible. The finished room will be checked with you and a snagging list compiled and completed to ensure you are 100 per cent happy. We don’t just design we really care about providing a room you can enjoy for many years.

At Arctic Cabins they really do have the timber outdoor housing solutions for everyone. They are with you every step of the way to provide you with the best Arctic Cabin barbeque hut, garden room, office or camping cabin. From start to finish they offer you the full service of a site visit to establish your particular requirements, base preparation and laying, cabin supply and build service, weather proofing and a top quality after care service leaving you the tricky decisions of which building to choose and where in the garden to put it. The barbeque range comes in four sizes to suit any garden. They are the perfect garden getaway, entertaining space 365 days a year. The unique sloping walls system gives a greater amount of space where it matters and a fantastically comfortable seating position all round. The Barbecue huts are built in the traditional lapish style of Northern Finland and offer the year round dining culture that the Scandinavians have been enjoying for many years. Garden rooms and garden offices have become more and more popular and why build an extension when a garden room provides you with the flexibility and additional space you were looking for. Their ranges are made from the highest quality timbers to ensure the longevity of your building and to your exact specification as mass-produced timber buildings do not fit everyone’s needs. The Arctic Camping Cabins and BBQ Cabins are just as good for a bit of extra sleeping space in the back garden as they are for caravan and camp sites to expand. Low cost and high quality, just what every business wants. Glamping in style - that is what you get if you have one of their Camping Cabins.
