LETTER FROM THE EDITOR Time flew so fast and we can hardly believe that we have just completed our First Anniversary issue with much fun and excitement! We are truly grateful that we are officially one-year-old. I am thankful to all the people who made everything possible: our advertisers, contributing writers, great photographers, stylists, artists, designers, volunteers, featured guests, friends, and family who gave their time, talent and expertise to L'Vegue. Thank you to all of you! You know who you are. It is my hope that we will all continue supporting one another.

L'Vegue has received good reviews as well as awards this year! It was chosen as the Best Magazine of the Year by New York Fashion Awards—a first for any Las Vegas fashion magazine! L'Vegue created a special issue just for the Nathan Adelson Hospice Gala for its 35 years as an institution—the biggest and most prestigious charity event in the city. The grand dame of Vegas society, Susan Molasky, chairperson of the Nathan Adelson Hospice and very close friend, graced our cover. A special tribute to her was the main feature of the issue.
For this anniversary issue, we are honored to have the fabulous Holly Madison on our cover. One of the most successful women in Las Vegas, Holly, wearing David Tupaz Couture, styled by Mitch Adkinson, hair by Rolando Aqui, and make up by Whitney Hedrick, shares her thoughts about family, beauty, and life in general. Her photographs were taken by the phenomenal artist, Tolga Katas.

HOT weather training tips Fashionable Summer Skin
Amanda Kouretas Beauty Secrets
L’VEGUE.COM | 19
Fashionable Summer Skin The key to great looking skin this summer and in the years to come is avoidance of sun damage. I encourage my patients to do their best to enjoy outdoor and summer activities when the sun is coming up or going down in order to avoid the most intense mid day ultraviolet (UV) light. A shot glass full of sunscreen is enough to cover the entire body and should be applied 15 minutes before going outdoors and re-applied every 2 hours while outside. Choosing a fantastic sunscreen if you have to be outside is key- I like physical sunscreens with Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide in them- these screens reflect the sun's rays without altering the character of the screen itself. You can pick a screen with tint to hide unwanted blemishes or put your screen on before applying makeup. Some makeups have sunscreen in them!
H.L. Greenberg, M.D. is a board certified dermatologist and founder of Las Vegas Dermatologypracticing in Las Vegas since 2006, he specializes in cosmetic, laser, surgical and medical dermatology. While enjoying the pools, baseball or soccer games, hikes, and great weather, you will want some sort of sun protective clothing. A proper summer sun protective hat will cover your head, ears and neck can not only help you look more stylish, but may prevent future skin cancers and sun damage as an added benefit. The face is the most common area for photo damage and skin cancer so if nothing else, make sure to keep this area covered and protected. Although they may not always look the most fashionable, sun protective clothes are improving- the key is finding the right sun smart clothes to compliment your style! Check the Ultraviolet Protective Factor (UPF) of the clothing, the higher the UPF, the better the protection- a UPF of 15 is considered good, while a 50+ (the highest rating) is considered excellent, a UPF of 50 means 1/50th (roughly 2%) of available UV rays pass through, while a lower UPF of 15 means 1/15 (6.7%) of sun's rays pass through the clothes, an everyday white T-shirt offers some protection UPF of 5 (20% pass through). Bright and darker with a tighter
fabric weave and heavier fabrics tend to offer more protection. Summer is in full swing and there are a whole host of options to get your skin to look its best. I'll never forget when one friend of mine, we'll call him Joey, recommended Kiel's skin care (soaps and lotion) to another friend of mine, we'll call him Bill, as an antiaging regimen. Bill came to my office for a little Brotox (Botox for men), and when they saw each other again, Joey said to Bill, "Wow, that Kiel's really works great!" Many of your friends are having something done beyond topical skin care to look better, and they may not be sharing that information with you. Botox works by preventing the movement of muscles- it is typically injected above the cheeks in the forehead, glabella and off label into the crow's feet area to give a smoother more relaxed look to the face- it can last up to 6 months. Hyaluronic acid fillers like J u v e d e r m a n d Re s t y l a n e a r e g r e a t enhancements for facial volume loss and are typically injected below the cheeks into the nasolabial folds, lips and marionette lines to add fullness and smooth skin foldshyaluronic acid fillers can last up to a year. With the sunny days, arid climate and increased temperatures there are new challenges for your skin this summer. Having an appropriate skin care evaluation and individualized treatment regimen can nearly eliminate your risk of skin cancer and help you to look your best. At Las Vegas Dermatology, it's common for me to see a person with bad sun damage leading not just to skin cancer, but also to premature aging, wrinkles and skin discoloration. Treatments are available for sun-damaged skin including microneedling and carbon dioxide lasers for wrinkle removal and skin tightening. A peel will lighten and brighten damaged skin, while a microdermabrasion will remove unwanted dirt or dead skin. Healthy looking, cancer free skin is always fashionable.

Hot Weather Training Tips By: Jodi Hale-Fonfa
F
itness Training is a year round activity, and for the serious athlete it is a way of life. But during the summer months, even the most experiences and accomplished athlete must take the proper precautions to exercise comfortably and safely in hot weather.
18 | L’VEGUE.COM 22
I
'd like to share with you some helpful tips to make your exercise more appealing in the heat of the summer:
1. Choice of clothing - The type of fabric you choose when exercising in the heat could have a direct affect on the outcome of your performance. Coolmax, a trademark of Invista, is a brand name for a series of moisture-wicking technical fabrics developed in 1986 by Dupont Textiles and interiors (now Invista). Garments containing CoolMax will hold up best in hot weather. In addition, CoolMax will wick moisture away from the body. You will see a huge difference when comparing CoolMax to other fabrics. At one time, cotton was the material of choice because it absorbs moisture. However, it does nothing with it, causing the garment to be soaking wet after a workout. CoolMax not only absorbs perspiration, but also brings it to the surface where it ultimately evaporates. Supplex Fabric offers consumers the feel of cotton with the benefits of advanced technology. It is cool like cotton and does not retain moisture. Next to the skin it feels like cotton lycra, which is comfortable, but has a tendency to lose its shape and color. It is best to refrain from wearing spandex in hot and humid conditions because it retains heat and water. Some other accessories that will assist in providing you with some comfort and relief from the heat are headbands and hats. Athletes will often wet their hats to keep their heads cool. In addition, you can wet a handkerchief and tie it loosely around the neck. 2. Hydration - When doing any type of cardiovascular activity or weight training, it's essential to drink water before, during, and after your workout. The benefits of adequate fluid and electrolyte intake during exercise include lower heart rate, improved blood flow to working muscles and skin, body temperature control, quick recovery, improved performance and lower perceived exertion. Exercising athletes may lose 2-3 percent of their body weight. During hot weather, an athlete can lose 1-2 liters of fluids an hour. The only way to replenish fluids quickly enough before experiencing any dangerous effects is to take precautions to hydrate yourself properly. In elevated temperatures, as well as during your normal workout climate, it's important to remember that by the time you feel thirsty, your performance is already suffering. Thirst is not always a reliable guide to your body's actual need for fluid. Having an abundant amount of liquids in your system will increase endurance and reduce muscle soreness and fatigue. Water is a necessary nutrient, and it's essential for cooling your body's core temperature. With a decline in the body's water content, neither the circulatory system nor the thermoregulatory system can meet the demands placed on them by the stress of exercise in a
warm environment. According to the Mayo clinic, a suitable allowance of water for adults is 2.5 liters (83 ounces) daily in most instances. We should remember that most vegetables and fruits are at least 85 percent water. Sports drinks are also an effective addition to water in helping to increase fluid levels with carbohydrates and electrolytes that water doesn't provide. The main consideration in warm weather endurance sports, can be summed up in two words: "Drink more." Additionally, Many recreational and competitive athletes underestimate the importance of proper hydration, not only to optimize performance, but also to optimize good health. Dehydration is most often the cause of heat exhaustion. If you feel a headache, fatigue, or dizziness, it would be a good idea to replenish fluids and electrolytes and rest for a prolonged period of time in a cool, ventilated environment. If you're outdoors in the sun, find a shaded area. 3. Exercise intensity - While almost everyone who commits to train would like each workout to have the intensity of the one before, it's important to realize that your body may fatigue a little more quickly in the heat than it would in air-conditioned surroundings. Therefore, it would be reasonable to decrease the intensity somewhat to accommodate your system's response to excessive heat. One way to determine your exercise intensity is to take the talk test. While exercising, you should be able to breathe comfortably, deeply, and rhythmically. You should be able to carry on a conversation while exercising. If you are gasping or short of breath and cannot talk, you should reduce your exercise intensity. 4. Acclimatization - The body's adaptation to heat stress and its eventual increased capacity to work in high temperatures and humidity is defined as acclimatization. It is best to slowly increase the level of heat or intensity of the work done in a hot environment so your body can adjust. According too the American Council on Exercise (ACE), on the first day training in the heat, one should reduce the normal workout by 50 percent. Every day after that you should increase your amount of work by 5-10 percent. Acclimatization should occur within 5-10 days, if there is proper intake of nutrients, electrolytes, and fluids. Remember: 1) The type of clothing you choose will help prevent you from getting overheated. 2) When sweating profusely, make sure your intake of fluids continues at a high rate. 3) Lower the intensity of your workout. Modification is essential when training in heated conditions.

Beauty For Everyday Living Find out Amanda’s beauty regiment and what she is doing now By Tony Ferriera
TF: When did you move to Las Vegas and from where? Amanda: My husband, Demetri and I met in Manhattan Beach where I was in college at LMU. We were married in Beverly Hills in 2000 and moved back to the Bay Area where we both grew up and then to Las Vegas in 2001. We didn't know a soul here! This was all his big idea! TF: What are the top 3 things you love most about Las Vegas? Amanda: Only three? That is tough! 1. The diversity…we see IT ALL and have and infinite number of culinary, shopping, sport and entertainment options here, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! 2. The philanthropy…we are small town with a heart that shines as bright as our lights! The numerous charitable organizations and the people that donate their time, funds and heart are the pulse of this city. 3. The growing art, fashion and interior design community…we are really becoming an innovative destination for all things creative and expressive! TF: I know being a great mom is important to you. Tell us a little about your family? How long have you been married and how old are your children? Amanda: Demetri and I met at 23 and we have been married almost 16 years! We have 3 children…Nicholas 13, Alexandra, 10 and Christian 8. We all have crazy schedules and are full of love and fun. The best beauty advice I can impart to anyone is embrace the chaos and don't sweat the small stuff! Humor is the best beauty accessory I own. TF: What does beauty mean to you? Amanda: You are only as beautiful as how beautiful you make others feel. Beauty is a feeling, an emotion, a power. It should be used to empower others. TF: What is the one beauty product you can't live without? Amanda: Not going to lie… although not a product, my dermatologist! I can't live without my botox, filler and facials! TF: What are some of your favorite beauty products and why?
Amanda: I have been using MAC Spice and Oak lip liners for over 20 years for the perfect nude lip. I keep them in every purse! NARS Monoi Body Glow because it smells amazing and makes you feel tropical and sexy! Crest 1 Hour Express teeth whitening strips. I put them on while I'm getting ready so my smile is gleaming white before an event. And of course eyelash strips and eyelash extensions, which are my new beauty addiction! A good lip, glow, smile and lashes are all you really need! TF: What is the on hair product you can't live without? Amanda: I have only used Mason Pearson brushes since I was a child, they are the best! My hair brush, Big Sexy Spray and Stay hairspray, a good teasing comb and hair extensions! The higher the hair the closer to God…I need big hair! TF: When it comes to fashion, who are some of your favorite designers? Amanda: Well, I never met a LBD or a LBJ (little black dress or jumper haha) I didn't like. But right now I'm having a love affair with Cushnie Et Ochs. I love their use of bold lines and colors. I love every single look they have but especially their dresses! They are the perfect luncheon and evening dresses. Simple, unique and elegant. For all of my "mom on the go" ensembles I love Zara! And of course I love, love, love my evening gowns…bring me a WOW gown and I can't say no to it! TF: I just have to ask this question. What was your feeling at the moment the said you won Mrs. Nevada America? Amanda: RELIEF! I pushed myself harder than I ever had. I didn't win my first try. And I fell on stage that night. I use that as a learning tool for my children…always pick yourself up, never let anything get you down, keep smiling and never give up! TF: What is the best beauty secret you have learned? Amanda: We have all heard it before…drink lots of water! I have practiced this my whole life. Simply because I never liked the taste of anything but water! I love iDrink. It's a multi-vitamin alkaline water that keeps me healthy, my skin looking fresh and gives me energy!

ou might expect those words from a world-renown philosopher or motivational speaker but you probably would not think of those words coming from a Las Vegas Strip performer. But they have! Those are the words of the man who repeatedly has been voted the Best Show and Best Overall Entertainer in Las Vegas none other than Terry Fator.
A
lthough he is labeled “The Voice Of Entertainment” Terry Fator is so much more and when you look into his background and his dream of being on the Las Vegas Strip you learn about the man behind those many puppets that share his stardom. It really began when he was a child.
I
n a candid conversation with the man of many voices you learn he always believed he wanted to be an entertainer even at the age of three when he was a child in Dallas, Texas. By the time he neared his teenage years he started to perfect his craft and start his dream. "My parents owned a janitorial business and my brother and sister and I would clean this 7 story bank building every night," Terry admits. "It was what we did to help the family!" Terry says that's how he first started with the singing. "To pass the time", according to Terry, "I used to sing to the music on my Walkman but I couldn't sing out loud so I sang and learned how to do that without moving my lips!" He was just 11 years old and says he just always thought he would be rich and famous one day, little did he know! By the time he reached high school he had already tried ventriloquism but singing was really his thing. Nearing the end of high school he was given the opportunity to travel and sing with a group that had various productions around the country. They were called Freedom Jam and Terry became the lead for the group that called Tucson, Arizona home. His year with Freedom Jam, as he admits, "let me work on my craft." But it wasn't enough so Terry and some friends got together and formed their own group called "Texas the Band." Terry loved the opportunity and in fact they played Las Vegas many times but by 2001 Terry felt he needed to go solo…remember "Never Give Up Your Dreams," he says, "And I had more dreams to come!" So it was back on the road again working the clubs and even working the Clark County Fair in Logandale. He says that's when he knew what he wanted to be….A Star! "I remember driving in Las Vegas and seeing the billboards for Danny Gans and saying to myself that's me, one day I will be on those billboard and have my own show!" Little did he know how fate would eventually cross his path? At one point, on stage he figured out that he was not only a singer but also he was a darn good impersonator of other singers. "But", he admits, "Just being an impersonator was nothing new so he figured how to use that ventriloquism talent he had and make his puppets do the singing!" WOW! He hit on the idea and tried it at the Clark County Fair and the audience went wild. But the road to being that Star was long and many clubs and shows brought little success. He says without hesitation, "I Never Gave Up on My Dream!" As fate would have it in 2007 America's Got Talent came calling and his opportunity of a lifetime was there. On that show his character Emma sang "At Last" and the audience and the judges went wild. That dream was coming closer but there was a problem. After Emma what would he do next? He used to use a Kermit the Frog type of puppet to sing Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" but the Muppets said he could not use Kermit in the show. What would he do? What happened next remains the great story of success! Terry discovered a turtle puppet and Winston The Impersonating Turtle was born. Terry, of course, won
the 2007 America's Got Talent and that gave him a shot to perform again in Las Vegas. The truth is Terry was only going to be given a 15 minute show at Bally's Jubilee Theatre but his fans demanded more so without publicity the Las Vegas Hilton, now the Westgate, gave him a shot. For five months he headlined his own sold-out show. But fate was not over yet for Terry! Remember that image of Terry staring at the Danny Gans billboard? In a true entertainment tragedy Danny Gans died suddenly and the Mirage was without a headliner. On May 13, 2008 it was announced that the Mirage had signed Terry Fator to a five year $100 million dollar contract to perform nightly in his own showroom, a contract that has now been extended to 2021. Terry has continuously fought to have his craft, ventriloquism, taken seriously as a talent and has even started his own scholarship program for young ventriloquists seeking their own dream. But don't think that dream thing is over. Sometimes with success comes heartache and Terry was not without his own! Terry struggled in his own personal life being married and divorced twice. He admits his heart was heavy but as he says "Never Give Up working Toward Those Dreams!" And he didn't. For him that dream became reality in the arms of Angie Fiore. He admits he fell madly in love with Angie who would become his third wife and in 2015 they planned for a November 28th wedding. But this Love story was not over yet. The two of them were so in Love that Terry always said he wanted something special for Angie. September 3rd of 2015 it would have been the 66th wedding anniversary of Angie's parents. Terry, in his own way, wanted something special for her so he decided why wait, get married on what would have been their parents anniversary, and they did in a small private ceremony in the wedding Chapel of what used to be the Lake Las Vegas Hilton. Yes, they still had their second ceremony for family and friends of November 28th and that part of his dream lives on today and it can been seen in their eyes by anyone who knows them Terry, who has become an amazing philanthropist in Las Vegas, says his success has never changed who he is. As he stares at his wife while we are talking he says, "Life is all about those dreams!" He adds, "We all must learn to set goals, strive toward those goals and never, never stop believing in them or yourself!" His is a story of those dreams and, as he says, "Every night when I get on that stage and perform in front of that great audience my dream becomes more and more of my reality and I know how lucky a man I am!" To that I say Amen!

First of all I wanna say that you're so talented on what you do, and keep it up!...I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart, for the beautiful transformation makeup on me and thank you for teaching me the basics of makeup and recommendations. I've been searching for the right color concealer that matches my African American skin . I would never thought mixing two different color concealers/foundations,up until you suggested it to me.

W
hen Las Vegas gallerist and owner of Skye Art Gallery, Vanessa Juarez, conceptualized an integration of art and fashion, she tapped painter AraDona and fashion designer, David Tupaz to launch Art Meets Fashion: AraDona and David Tupaz on March 26. This pertinent partnership has made Skye's initiative seductively dazzling and, more importantly, germane to the burgeoning creative scene in Las Vegas. AraDona is globally recognized for his masterful portraits and figurative work. On June 25, at Skye Gallery in the Forum Shops at Ceasar's Palace, this young master will continue to forge his latest painting of Amanda Gibson, Miss Nevada 2015, draped in a David Tupaz couture gown, with AraDona's creative process live for the public. AraDona is an alumnus of the Florence Academy of Art and is hailed a prodigy by critics and scholars alike. Having mastered the realm of figure and portrait, he now finds inspiration in the fashion designs of David Tupaz. Like AraDona, the much celebrated David Tupaz boasts lengthy accolades; he is known to dress his inventive yet elegant pieces on the most important women in Las Vegas society, Andrea Wynn and Audra Baldwin among them, while AraDona's work is displayed at the Museum of Biblical Art in Dallas, Communities Foundation of Texas, Julien's Auction House in Beverly Hills, and in a variety of private and public collections.
L-R David Tupaz, Elena Voskresenskaya, Vanessa Juarez, Julia Stjernstrom. Ara Dona
Light and color are central aspects to both fashion and art. Appropriately so, AraDona masterfully achieves color illusions using paint as well as the multifarious and mutable forms of light reflecting off the painting. In daylight, the figure will reveal its glowing hues, but at night, the colors become monochromatic and unified. His knowledgeable application of the medium is an efficacious expression of Tupaz's designs, which communicate a romantic dignity and tailored, modern feminism. Vanessa Juarez and her business partner, Elena Voskresenskaya, founded Skye Art Gallery knowing that the art scene in Las Vegas is unique and thriving, but needed an indigenous platform to streamline creative innovation. They understood that a defining idiosyncrasy of Las Vegas is its synergy among industries. After all, the modus operandi of the city is that casinos, galleries, high-end shops, shows and concerts, and nightclubs all happen under one roof. By amalgamating couture fashion, classical art (AraDona's primary influence is the traditional Venetian technique), and the contemporary gallery scene with a pop art twist, Skye Gallery brings a movement that is uniquely born of the city, but in a presentation never seen in Las Vegas before. And as the city continues to transition into a genuine contender as a top cosmopolitan destination, Skye's Art Meets Fashion: AraDona and David Tupaz concentrates a wide array of interests on every dimension. Classical and contemporary art collectors and appreciators, as well as fashion aficionados, will be satiated.

The June 25 event, where the finished painting was revealed, is the second event following the initial launch of a series of events for Art Meets Fashion. In addition to the paintings of AraDona, Skye Art Gallery accomplishes the feat of displaying 90% original artwork from artists around the world. L’VEGUE.COM | 35 Skye Art Gallery

THE
Golden TOUCH
By Debrae Little
I
n Greek Mythology, there was a King who was known for his ability to turn everything he touched into Gold!
The allure of Gold conjures up images of wealth and a lifestyle of luxury and glamour. With Elizabeth Taylor's portrayal of Cleopatra in the 1960s, Gold's popularity rose and inspired jewelry and home furnishings. When Lady Gaga burst on the scene, gold experienced a resurrection and you can see its influences in wall covering, furniture, lighting, rugs and accessories today. Gold continues to transcend time, taste and style. Here are a few ways to bring a touch of gold into your home. Play up gold by using wall coverings in bold patterns and textures inside of cabinets, niches, and entryways to create a bit more interest. A metallic gold paint and gold leaf used on a ceiling or walls can also add drama. An amazing silk or wool rug with gold accents will create a backdrop for your furnishings and become the center of attention. Sofas, chairs or a bed upholstered in luxurious gold fabrics will exude and bring elegance to the room. Coffee and side tables in glass, stone or accented in gold will round out the space and lay the foundation for table lamps and accessories. The shimmer of a gold chandelier will cast a warm glow of opulence to behold.

Simply Delicious
Simple, yet amazing, recipes for everyday dining By: Elaine Newton
In my experience a good meal is more than filling your stomach, it's a way to bring friends and family together combining food and fun. I enjoy serving foods from different cultures. I'm a Hawaiian girl of Japanese descent, I grew up with many different cultures. Somehow we are all related through our love of different flavors and foods that we enjoy. I love traditions from all cultures, I think it comes from the multiethnic environment I grew up around. On New Year's day my sister prepares a table of food from recipes that have been in our family for many generations. A tradition that was passed down from my mother and her mother. The special soup she prepares, which is on most tables in our culture, brings in all the elements of good health,
happiness, and good fortune. (whether it be true or not I am into it!) My dear friend Richard Stearns, who is of Irish descent, is a gourmet cook. His Grandmother Paddock taught him the art of cooking in layers. She traced her family history back to Robert Paddock, who was the blacksmith on the Mayflower. Richard is a descendent of the oldest Irish family in America. His grandmother inspired him at a young age when he watched her in the kitchen taking in the senses and tasting the different flavors of the meals she prepared. Richard recently shared with me an updated version of one of her classic recipes. This is his version of Grandmother Paddocks braised short ribs. When you serve this meal everyone will want a take-home bag. I know I did!
Braised Short Ribs
Grandmother Paddock's Braised Short Ribs 6-8 Extra Beefy Short Ribs 3 Tbs Vegetable Oil 3 Tbs Olive Oil 4 Medium Carrots, Chopped 1 Medium Onion, Chopped 4 Celery Stalks, Chopped 1 LB Mushrooms, Chopped 6-8 Roasted Caramelized Garlic, Minced 4 Tbs Tomato Paste 1 ½ Cups Red Wine 8 Cups Beef Stock (Low Sodium) 3 Tbs Concentrated Demi Glace
Add vegetable oil to large brazing pan. Pat and dry beef ribs. Season ribs with salt and pepper. Sear ribs on medium high heat until all sides are golden brown. Remove from pan and set aside. To the pan add the olive oil, carrots, onion, celery and cook until the ingredients are translucent. Add tomato paste and mushrooms. Stir for 3-4 minutes. And then add the wine. Allow to simmer and reduce this by one-half. Return the ribs back to the pot. Add beef stock to cover the ribs. Add a small bunch of tyme and 4 bay leaves in a gauze pouch tied together. Place cover on brazing pan and put into a preheated 300 degree oven for 2 ½ hours . Remove the pan from the oven and take out the ribs. Strain the remaining sauce and put it into a smaller pot. Allow to simmer and reduce the sauce by half, once again. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to taste and return the ribs to the pan. Simmer for another 20 minutes. Serve on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes or a cheese polenta. My Personal favorite is to sauté some assorted mushrooms in 3 Tbs oil. Season with Salt and Pepper. 44 | L’VEGUE.COM
Beet Salad During our warm summer months I like light meals especially salads. (Did I say warm summer months, I meant hot! summer months.) These are the perfect recipes for the upcoming heat. I asked my friend Elena Pederson for her recipe that she serves at her gettogethers. It's a beet salad; healthy and delicious. She is of Russian heritage and a wonderful cook. This recipe is somehow the perfect combination of healthy ingredients. I like this done in the small little chunks however you can make this recipe several different ways. Ingredients: Ÿ 2 cups of red beets cooked Ÿ 2 cups Yukon baked potatoes Ÿ 1 cup bland carrots Ÿ 1 cup green peas Ÿ 1 med. red onion Ÿ 4 stalks dill pickles Ÿ salt and pepper to taste Use a chopper to even sizes in squares. (The magic is sunflower oil.) A tablespoon of sunflower oil (add more if needed ),toss.
Chilled Wasabi Shrimp This next recipe is from my friend Shelley, I have made this several times since she shared this with me. It was perfect when I had friends stop by. I served this with a crisp rose and a sparkling champagne. It was over a 100 degrees on that early evening, everyone appreciated this refreshing light supper, I call it happy hour, my friends called it supper well, potatoe-potato. ha ha Ingredients: Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ Ÿ
2 pounds of the shrimp 1 tablespoon of lemon juice 1 tube of Wasabi sauce 1/2 cup of mayo 1/2 cup of sesame seeds 1-1/4 teaspoons of ground ginger 1 cup of Kikkoman base and glaze sauce.
I found the glaze sauce and Wasabi sauce at the supermarket.(wasabi in the tube) combine all the ingredients together and marinade the shrimp overnight if possible otherwise at least four hours. Serve it on a bed of shredded cabbage, garnish with whatever you like. I garnish with cilantro. These recipes will heighten your taste buds to a whole new level. As my friend Vivi would say, DiLisio so, somehow with her accent it makes all foods so much more inviting. I know you will repeat these recipes many times. Bon Appetite!!!

aised in Romania, Ionica studied social work in Transylvania and
finished her post graduate studies in England while practicing as
a social worker. Growing up she had a fascination with all things
related to fashion. It was always her dream to be a fashion designer. However, when her thoughts came to planning a future career with financial stability, fashion in her small town was not considered a viable career. It was Ionica’s travels to fashion centric countries and cities, and keeping up to date with fashion trends and designers, that allowed her to stay close to the fashion industry and reinforce her passion for fashion. After 16 years, she left her practice in Social work and began following her dream. L’VEGUE.COM | 49
TF: Tell us a little about yourself? Ionica: I was born and raised in Galati, Romania - a small town by the Danube River. I studied Social Work in Transylvania and completed further post-graduate studies in England, where I lived and practiced as a Social Worker for many years. My travel to 28 countries and cosmopolitan cites allowed me the opportunity to immerse myself in learning about people, cultures and most importantly - fashion. In 2014, after 16 years of practice, I ended my career in Social Work to pursue my dream as a Fashion Designer and start my own luxury, ready-to-wear women's clothing label. This is an exciting journey for me. TF: Tell us one thing we do not know about Ionica? Ionica: I love books. This is my way to relax and keep my mind stimulated. So, if you can't get ahold of me, you will probably find me at the closest Barnes and Nobles. I like to have a selection of three books on hand to pick from, depending on how I feel. Some days, I may want to read about self-development; other days, I may prefer reading a biography. I like to keep my reading exciting and diverse. TF: When did you know you wanted to be a Fashion designer? Ionica: My passion for fashion goes back to a young age. I remember when I was 6 years old, I used to dress up my dolls, making them different outfits. Further on in life, I always enjoyed watching my mum, who was a seamstress, make clothes, and going to buy fabric with her. H o w e v e r, a s I w a s growing up, fashion in Romania was not seen as something that you could make a living out of. I am the youngest of five, and I grew up with the mentality that I had to work towards having a "good job" and be able to Photo : Vrset support myself. This Hair and Make up : Contourversie Model: Ionica Moldovianu means fashion was not Stylist: Ionica Moldovianu really an option. So, Dress: IONICA when the time came to make a decision regarding my career, I chose Social Work, as working with people was something that I was also passionate about. But, my fashion dream never died. TF: Explain your passion for your fashion designs? Ionica: My designs are about empowering women to express their beauty and personality in a feminine, elegant, luxurious and sophisticated way. 50 | L’VEGUE.COM
I'm extremely excited about the designs that I have created and to be able to share them with other women is one of the biggest blessings and achievements of my life. TF: What are your plans as a fashion designer? Ionica: My biggest goal is to make a difference in the world and to be a positive influence on others. My vision is for IONICA is to inspire and empower women from around the world to have strength, beauty, confidence and success.
Ionica Moldovianu silk top IONICA
TF: Do you have any plans to bring your fashions to Las Vegas? Ionica: Yes! I am very excited about my collaboration with Vegas Fashion Project, and I am looking forward to having my very first fashion show in Las Vegas, August 2016. TF: Who are your inspirations when it comes to fashion designers? Ionica: This is a tough one because there are a few of them and they all inspire me in different ways. Karl Lagerfeld, Ralph Laurent, Michael Kors, Stella McCartney and Victoria Beckham. TF: If you had one outfit for the day, what would it include? Ionica: It has to be white trousers, silk top and pumps. I like to keep it simple, comfortable and classy. TF: What does fashion mean to you? Ionica: Fashion means everything to me because everything around me inspires me, and inspires what I believe in. I not only believe in fashion as a way to express yourself and your personality in a way that best defines who you are, but also give you the confidence to get to where you need to be. TF: Where do you see fashion going in the next 5 years? Ionica: Technology plays such a significant role in most industries today, and it's becoming more popular in fashion too. There are already fashion houses that 3D print. I believe within the next 5 years, we will see many fashion designers and fashion houses using 3D printing technology. We must learn to embrace these advances in technology.

olly is no longer the girl next door…. After leaving the famous Playboy Mansion and the successful reality show “The Girls Next Door,” Holly had to decide what to do with her life. Having spent her younger years living in the playboy mansion she now had to figure out her new life on her own. When Holly left L.A. she eventually made her way here to Las Vegas. After landing the lead role in Peep Show on the Las Vegas strip, Holly did what she does best, be herself. Holly landed another reality show, “Holly’s World,” depicting her life here in Las Vegas. While on the surface Holly looked put together and happy, but in order to move forward she still had to overcome some of the past dark secrets she held. While in Las Vegas, Holly dated some famous and not so famous men during her time here, yet, she was still trying desperately to find herself. Holly later shares some of those stories along with her past life in the mansion in her book "Down the Rabbit Hole: Curious Adventures and Cautionary Tales of a Former Playboy Bunny" and later released her second book "The Vegas Diaries: Romance, Rolling the Dice, and the Road to Reinvention ." While Holly has spent many years working hard to overcome her past reputation as the #1 girlfriend to Hugh Hefner. DT: You are one of the successful women in Las Vegas, What is your idea of success? Holly: My idea of success is personal happiness. You have to check yourself, though, and make sure you are doing what is truly making you happy and not what other people expect you to do or striving for other peoples' more shallow ideas of success. DT: Your family is your treasure! What is a typical day like in your house? Holly: I usually work during the day and always have my evenings with my daughter, so it's a nice balance. DT: Being a beauty icon...what is your daily routine? the moment you wake up? Holly: All thru the day I am really focusing on moisturizing lately because pregnancy has me so dehydrated and of course I live in a dry climate. I use La Mer on my face and an SPF from the Body Shop on top of that. I also currently use CeraVe on my body. DT: What are your do's and don'ts when it comes to food? and eating habits? Holly: I try to stick to some basic guidelines rather than over analyzing every bite I take. I drink a lot of water, take probiotics daily, try and start each lunch and dinner with a salad, etc. DT: What advice can you give women who have low self esteem and want to be confident like you? Holly: Stop surrounding yourself with negative and controlling people. Spend less time on social media. Start working on a project or hobby that is important to you. DT: What makes you happy? Holly: Having spare time to read makes me happy! DT: Who is the person you look up to? Holly: I look up to people who can create worlds: J.K. Rowling, George Lucas, George R.R. Martin DT: Do you have a spiritual side? Holly: I consider myself spiritual, but not necessarily in a traditional way. DT: If there is one more thing you want to add to your life NOW, what is it? Holly: I would like to have a more multi faceted career. DT: If there is one thing you can change in the world! What will it be? Holly: I would simply add more kindness.

DESIGNERS TO WATCH
Christine McKinnis I have lived in Las Vegas for 19 years working on the strip at Bellagio Hotel for 8 1/2 years. After leaving Bellagio in 2007, I opened a specialty yarn shop on S. Eastern in Henderson until 2011. While owning this shop, Sunset Tan at the Palms Hotel requested we create a unique line of crocheted swimwear they could label and sell in their gift shop and spa at the Palms. We worked together, selling handmade bikinis under their label until 2010. At that time, Sunset Tan closed its doors in the Palms, so I was left with a bikini company and full line of designs which I chose to turn in to Beach Beauty Swim Wear. Since that time, I have been designing, making and custom creating Swim Wear both on-line and around the Valley. Crochet design and summer fashion is my passion. I also have a deep love for the ocean and beach so the marriage of my 2 loves has been a perfect union. Recently, we did a photo shoot with Emmy Adams, Miss Nevada 2016. I am so proud to have her as the face of Beach Beauty and look forward to many more opportunities to photograph her and my new designs as I dream them up. My designs can be found on Etsy @BeachBeautySwimWear or at my web-site at www.beachbeautyswimwear.com
