Information on Featured Paper Dolls Dido Elizabeth Belle This paper doll is based on a painting of Dido Elizabeth Belle (17611804). Dido was an English lady and heiress whose mother was an enslaved African and whose father was English nobility. After Dido’s mother’s death, her father took her to live with his uncle and aunt who raised her. Dido’s remarkable life is unique in that she lived a life of privilege, whereas others who were born into an enslaved family usually lived a life of servitude.

Matilda Joslyn Gage1 Matilda Joslyn Gage (1826-1898) was an important theoretician and activist in the radical element of the 19th century American women's movement. Along with Elizabeth Cady Stanton, she authored all the major documents of the National Women Suffrage Association.

Lillian Fashion Paper Doll The Lillian Fashion Paper Doll is based on Lillian V. Knowles who was a fashion model in the 1960s in New York then later became a teacher.

Lillian was involved in the Civil Rights movement and she made donations to organizations for impoverished children.
