e m o Welc to Whitley Lodge First School Here’s a little bit about us… At our school we have approximately 270 pupils aged between three and nine years old. We have eight classes. We also have 26 teachers and helpers. The teachers and helpers are always there for you if you need them and they plan interesting lessons for us to help us to learn. Everybody at our school always feels safe and happy because we have no bullies and everybody has friends. We participate in lots of fun activities at our school! There is the choir, football club, bible quest club and the gardening club. We also have a magazine committee who produce a weekly school newsletter which is published on the North Tyneside learning portal for all to read! We also have a school council which two members from each class participate in. Two of our councillors recently attended the Young People’s conference and said they had a great day! We think our school is great and we don’t want to leave it!
Anyway…

Do something
funny for money Why should people participate and contribute to Comic Relief? People should donate money to make the world a better place. Just look what your money can do! We brought in £1 each and dressed in our pyjamas.
We raised £285 as a school. On average Comic Relief raises £40 million each year for good causes.
4
In the North East, where we live, money has been spent on funding social groups for young carers. Ant and Dec recently visited one such centre and were really happy with how the young people were being helped. Money from Comic Relief also helps some of the world’s poorest people.
See what a big difference your pound can make!
Song time Welcome to our choir page Most people are still singing at Whitley Lodge Choir because Mrs Elkin, our music teacher, is fun and Mr Chapel is so funny! Mr Chapel also runs a choir at Valley Gardens Middle School. Most people said that they love singing because it makes them happy. There was a huge opportunity to do an audition at the Langdale Centre for the North Tyneside Choir. My friend Helen and I were successful!
Holly’s top singing tips! You should open your mouth nice and wide! Drink plenty of water to wet your vocal cords and keep you cool! Get plenty of sleep the night before a concert!

Recycling The facts Participating in a recycling scheme is the best way to help the world in which we live. We all must act fast because the amount of waste we create is increasing all the time!
Why should you participate in a recycling scheme? Fact 1: Rubbish is dumped in places called landfill sites. The rubbish releases harmful chemicals and greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. If you recycle rubbish you will help to reduce the pollution caused by waste. Fact 2: Rainforests are being destroyed because of the need for raw materials such as wood. This means that animal habitats are being destroyed and the threat of global warming is increasing. If we recycle more, the need for raw materials will be reduced and so the rainforests can be preserved.

So... are you doing your bit? Don’t throw away, recycle today!
Hello I’m Henry. I go to cubs and I am here to tell you a little bit about it and tell you why I think you should participate too! First before you get to do the fun, you will have to get invested and get your full cub uniform. There are loads of fun things that you can do as a cub scout when you are invested, like exploring, computing and collecting. If you do these properly you get a badge to wear on your uniform. You get to go camping with your pack which means sleeping in a tent and doing loads of outdoor activites.

World
Book Day World Book Day is the biggest annual celebration of books and reading in UK and Ireland. This year World Book Day fell on Thursday 5th March. At our school, teachers and children dressed up as their favourite book character. We saw some very strange things in our corridors that day. Here is a prime example! Can you guess from the clues below who Mr Langley came as? He is tall. He eats snozzcumbers. He drinks Frobscottle. He catches good dreams to give people and tries to stop the bad dreams. He is also friendly. Have you guessed yet?
Top reading tips! Try to figure out new words by breaking them down. Tip two: Practise! Tip three: Look at the pictures to help you wherever possible! Tip four: ENJOY! Tip one:

Good Neighbours...
Good Friends Children from the Glebe School come and participate in our school and play with us.They are like next door neighbours to us because they are great friends! They teach us sign language, we play together in the sensory garden and work together in lessons. We decided to go and find out what members of our joint school community feel about our positive links with each other.
Here at Whitley Lodge First School we share our site with Glebe School, a school for children with special learning needs. 10
.
Mrs Manton who works at Glebe said the children come from all over North Tyneside. Every lunch time she brings a class of children over to play. In the afternoon she helps them share in lessons at Whitley Lodge. We asked Mrs Lutman, our Head, how the link between the two schools benefited everyone.
.
.
.
“I think it is lovely when the Glebe school children come over. I think it is great for everybody! It allows children in a mainstream school to become aware of how some children face certain difficulties.”
We also asked two children from Glebe what they feel about coming to our school.
Connor and Jessica told us they love coming over and like to play football and in the willow tunnel. Jessica loves the space hopper! Connor really liked making paper bridges in science but his favourite subject is art, and doing the register in French. Jessica loved getting dressed up in Miss Denton’s class! Her favourite subject is music.
Connor and Jessica drew these pictures to show what they enjoy doing at Whitley Lodge First School. Aren’t they fabulous drawings!

Lights, Camera, Action You either love them or you hate them but we all have to participate in class assemblies and plays. So here are our top tips for surviving them! Tip one
Control your nerves by thinking about something else during the week before. On the day, pick a point on the wall opposite you and focus on that, don’t look at the audience too much.
Tip two Speak in a loud, clear voice. This means that everybody will be able to hear you. Make sure you always try to look
Tip three forward. Turning round to the people behind you doesn’t look very good! any lines you are given really well Tip four Learn to avoid making mistakes on the day. Practice in front of people at home so that they can tell you if you are speaking loud enough.

HAVE CONFIDENCE IN YOURSELF AND ENJOY IT!
Funky fresh air Hi! My name is Darcie and I am a playground monitor. My job includes setting out the playground ready for the children, and tidying up after them. My job is really good because I like to see all of the children enjoying themselves.
. .. I like skipping because you can play lots of different games.
We all love our playtimes! We get time away from our learning to relax and play. But did you know that you can use your playtime to get fit and healthy too! By joining in with playground games you are benefitting yourself in many ways. Why should you participate in playground games?
Participation in playground games can help you to get your recommended amount of exercise each day. You can make new friends.
You stay out of trouble and have fun!
One playtime at Whitley Lodge ‌ I like to play Connect 4 with my friends.
Hoola-hooping is my favourite.

When we are outside at playtimes some children call me names. Try to ignore them. Talk to your friends and if it gets bad you must tell an adult. When we are playing out in the street after school, the other children leave me out of their games because they are older and bigger than me. Try and find some children of your own age to play with. If this does not work tell your parents and see if they can help you join in some of the
