iTunes U According to apple.com, “iTunes U courses let teachers give each class a customized learning experience. Teachers can create and manage their course and students can experience it all from the iTunes U app on iPad.” iTunes U is an amazing app that allows a teacher to search through volumes of courses and resources that they can integrate into their classrooms. These courses include videos, documents, and even books. Search by grade level or subject. Use iTunes U to help you flip your classroom. iTunes U allows teachers to create their own courses. Create a unit for your private classroom or share your lesson with other iTunes U users. Attach PDF documents, video links, and iBooks to your lessons. Your students can use the “notes” feature in iBooks to highlight selections and make notes for your class. Create your course using your iPad, a new feature to iTunes U.

The conference kicked off with a keynote address from Margo Day, Microsoft Corporation's Vice President of US Education. Speaking on the importance of career-ready students and the modern workforce, Day offered insight into what employers will be looking for in future employees (our current students). According to Day, 90 percent of the digital information available has been created in the last 2 years, making it necessary for us to prepare students for jobs that have not been invented yet. During her presentation Day announced that the West Virginia Department of Education, in partnership with Microsoft, is implementing the Microsoft IT Academy (ITA) program in WV high schools this summer, with the program being available for use in the classroom starting in the fall of 2014. #

With the development of technology and integra4on into the Health Science classrooms, teachers are taking healthcare educa4on to a new level. Twenty-‐first century equipment in a controlled classroom environment creates a simulated real-‐life workplace through scenarios. MAKE IT REAL! That is what we are doing. Instructors create different scenarios, in which students can listen to heart rates, lung sounds, observe cardiac rhythms and vital signs using computer-‐ connected Simulaid Manikins. Students must observe and record the informa4on necessary to work through the scenario in order to iden4fy the health care issue, develop a plan of treatment, and save the manikin. The use of this equipment in the classroom allows the instructor to guide the student through the situa4on and ensure that the correct lifesaving decisions are made, giving the student experience and confidence for his or her future in healthcare. Making it real in the classroom is the first step to keeping it real in the workplace. 3
