AT THE FESTIVALS 22

Welcome to Lyceum at the Festivals 2022

FRINGE FESTIVAL

We will be working across the Festivals in 2022. As well as hosting the Edinburgh International Festival we are offering a festival full of drama from The Lyceum – opening up spaces around our building and across the city to bring new stories to the stage as part of both the Fringe and Edinburgh International Book Festivals. We hope you’ll be able to join us for what promises to be a sensational year at the Festivals.

Not here but in another place. In another place the country is being torn apart. Not in this place, remember, but in that other place the leader has lost control, people are being killed, someone is blinded. But not here, you understand, not in this theatre here. Not this one. Here, everything’s just fine. Everything’s hilarious. The Fool leaves King Lear before the killing starts. In Truth’s A Dog Must to Kennel he enters a virtual reality and returns to the wreckage of the world he left both onstage and off. In this extraordinary new play by Tim Crouch, King Lear meets stand-up meets the metaverse.

Ancient mythology and modern storytelling collide in a contemporary exploration of the legacy of colonialism and slavery by award-winning Scottish/ Kenyan storyteller Mara Menzies. A dying mother gives her daughter a box containing three clues to a priceless treasure. This sets in motion a journey filled with humour and tragedy that considers the importance of ritual, identity and belonging.
