LEADER The Thames after dark for Lynch Tideway team With works still in full swing on Thames Tideway, our 22m long reach excavator (shown below) is striking, set against the bright lights of London Town.
Zero accidents, zero incidents and completed ahead of schedule
Lynch help complete first phase of Tideway project L Lynch Plant Hire & Haulage was appointed to supply operated plant to assist with the excavation of the main shaft (63m in depth x 37m diameter) as well as removal of spoil via barges up and down the Thames. A 200 + workforce (including 100+ operators) was handpicked for this 24/7 operation and in total 70,000 man hours completed the project over a 12 week period with 235,000 tonnes of spoil being excavated and transported away from the shaft. Throughout this period of non-stop activity there were zero accidents and zero incidents with the job being completed ahead of schedule meaning a significant cost saving to client. The Lynch team were also presented with a performance award for working well on the jetty and supporting smooth operations as well as keeping the local residents happy.
Running 24/7 come rain or shine has been a challenge, but with the dedication and skill of the operators on site, progress has been impressive. Liam Moore, Assistant Operations Manager, has been an integral part of the Thames Tideway project from the outset. He has witnessed works on site first hand and knows the challenges that have been overcome. ‘’It’s not easy operating such a large machine in a tight space’’ comments Liam Moore’’. The machine is loading barges holding up to 2,500 tonnes, and with the barges being swapped every 24 hours, meeting the deadlines is tough. However, with the skill of our highly trained operators, Lynch has established a strong presence performing an integral role on site.

“
We have excavated to a 53 metres depth of our KTRST shaft, removing almost 45,000m3 of spoil. This has been a great achievement from L Lynch and FLO teams, demonstrating a strong teamwork to deliver safely these works.

LYNCH PLANT HIRE & HAULAGE — MEETING HIRE DEMANDS
Instant Triumph for our IT team With all the changes and movements within the Stanmore depot, the IT team were tasked with vacating their current server room of all equipment. The majority of this is servers which were to be moved over to Hemel, but with the haulage team and some other staff remaining in the Stanmore office, the task was to retain the network and haulage server for these users. Nitesh Murji was given the task to make this happen. He worked late into the evenings to install new network points, which connected to a new cabinet on the main floor, as we couldn’t continue with the existing infrastructure. The second problem was to get the fibre connections moved from the old server room to the new cabinet. After receiving quotes of £3,000 to get the two lines moved, he suggested getting some fibre extension leads and moving these ourselves. After making some enquiries, he ordered some cable and connectors for the small price of £20. Then on one

A Spanish Inquisition! Our Transport Department in Hemel Hempstead were given a very intricate transport task by Tecozam, a Spanish company working on Crossrail Sites.
Metropolitan Police’s ‘Abnormal Loads Department’, as well as with our supplier, South East Heavy Haulage, resulting in agreement of the route and timing in order to transport the tunnel to its desired location.
The task consisted of moving a tunnel liner, nearly 5m wide, and over 5m in height, from the compound where it was constructed to a shaft 1.2 miles away. The base was moved in two halves, each 12 meters long, sitting on a lorry bed that was almost 4 metres wide. A thorough investigation of the planned route was required which involved many discussions with the
“The customer was very nervous about the move being successful” commented Gary Clarke, Hemel Hempstead Transport Manager. He added ‘’however with the Saturday night delivery going successfully, and a return journey on the Sunday night going without a hitch, the Transport team ensured that the outcome was one very happy customer!
