Best Customer Service: Lynden Lube & Auto For Rob and Cheryl Heerspink, owners of Lynden Lube & Auto, a symbiotic sense of customer service comes naturally. “We don’t have a handbook as much as we’re just about respecting the customer,” Rob said. “The customer is wanting to be here, and we want them as a customer. As a mutual respect to each other, everybody wants that. It’s a great community. With that being said, it becomes bi-directional.” The Heerspinks have owned Lynden Lube for six years this summer, and owning the business has always been about working to help the community. “Being able to help people is my favorite part,” Rob said. “We’re providing a service that the people want and/ or need, and we’re able to accomplish it and see them satisfied. Then there’s the gratification of working with good people and in a good community. Between the three, it makes for a great experience.” Some local churches regularly bring their vans to Lynden Lube for service, and the company sponsors the annual Raspberry Festival car show. Many commercial fleets have work done on their vehicles at Lynden Lube as well. All that adds up to a partnership between the business and its community of customers. Lynden Lube also works with the three local parts houses (O'Reilly Auto Parts, S&H Auto Parts and NAPA Auto Parts) in the business’s effort to bring the best possible service to the community. “They’re are all top businesses that

Best New Business: E2 Fitness

E2 Fitness owner Christie Duque said that they've helped create a community atmosphere in which member support and encourage one another.

LYNDEN — When Kyle and Christie Duque were coming up with the idea of E2 Fitness, they didn’t just want to create a gym — they wanted to create a community. “We really wanted to create an environment that was comfortable and safe for everyone,” said Christie Duque, who has about 25 years of experience as a trainer and fitness instructor. “We wanted to create a community atmosphere — almost a family of people who would get to know each other.” Opened to the public Jan. 1, 2014, E2 fitness is a two-story building located on Third Street with a wide variety of equipment and programs. The lower level is populated with an array of new, high-quality equipment, such as Octane LateralX ellipticals, Tru treadmills and bikes, Stairmaster StepMills, Keiser indoor cycling bikes, Hoist free weights, kettlebells, BOSU balls and medicine balls. There’s even what they call the “Octagon,” an octagon-shaped functional training area. The upper level is where E2 holds group fitness classes. Programs offered include indoor cycling, kickboxing, Zumba, strength training, step aerobics, CycloCros and yoga- and Pilates-based classes. But, as the Duques strived for, E2 Fitness is more than just a top-notch facility. “Our mission was to create a community of people who can encourage one another,” Duque said. “And we are seeing that happen.” When a member is sick or unable to attend a class, fellow group members often will send an encouraging message like, “‘Hey, we’re missing you this morning. Here’s what we’re doing,’” Duque said. E2 Fitness has opportunities for fitness gurus and newbies alike. For example, E2 recently started a program called “Winter Walkers” for those who are just getting in to exercising, where a personal trainer leads a group on walks, which also provide a great opportunity for people to meet one another. E2’s personal trainers are certified in nutrition and lifestyle coaching as well, because, as Duque explains, they want their impact to extend beyond the confines of the building. “It’s really about a healthy lifestyle,” Duque said. “We try to encourage people to get involved in events out in the community — running events, triathlons, whatever — that help them maintain a healthy lifestyle.” For more information about E2 Fitness, including how to become a member, stop by the facility at 110 3rd St. or visit www.e2fitnesscenter.com.
