Hope Lutheran Church
Saved by Grace; Making a Difference “We understand that we are saved by grace, not by works, and this is a gift from God.” (Ephesians 2:8-9) Hope Lutheran Church members acknowledge that it is because of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ that we have received forgiveness and the assurance of eternal life. In response to God’s gift and care for us, we love and care for our neighbors locally and globally. We join many others in our local community in supporting Project Hope’s food bank, New Way Ministries, Sumas Clothesline, Interfaith Coalition and more. Mindful of the generous love and sacrifice that Jesus has shown us, we make quilts and give through food, coat and sock drives. Members and friends of Hope Lutheran also have collected books and school supplies for children of migrant families here for the summer. As a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), we believe that we can make an impact by working together with other ELCA congregations to: • Respond to disasters throughout the United States and world, including the Oso mud slide and Eastern Washington fires. • Provide food to the hungry. • Give medical care in Third World countries. • Offer counseling services for those with emotional issues. You’re invited to come as you are to worship God and learn more about Him. We have no dress code, only welcoming hearts and smiles. We worship each Sunday at 10 a.m. from September through May and at 9:30 a.m. June through August. Holy Communion is celebrated each week at Hope Lutheran and we invite all to the Lord’s Supper. We’re located at 900 E. Grover St., Lynden, just a block west of the Edaleen Dairy store. Fellowship is an important element of community life at Hope Lutheran. We gather together for a weekly coffee hour, periodic potlucks, a book club and “Soul Food” Thursdays. Our Prayer Team prays daily, as requested, for the needs of congregation members and their friends. A Eucharistic ministry team provides communion during home visits and assists in a monthly service at Lynden Manor. A worshipping community of grace and truth, sharing the love of Christ locally & globally. We have a contemporary worship service that features clear teaching from God’s Word. We Offer: • Children’s Ministry: Age-graded Sunday School, Vacation Bible School & Wed night Rock Zone for kids from the community. • MERGE Teens 7th to 12th grade meet on Sunday nights from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. They hang out playing games & worshipping God with Bible teaching & small groups. • Men’s Ministry: Meets first Saturday of the month for 8:00 am breakfast. They enjoy discipleship times together as well as work & wilderness outings. • Women’s Ministry: Meet monthly on the 2nd Saturday at 10:00 am for Women’s Refresh. We are...
Biblical: The Word of God is our foundation for all of life and prac-
tice and serves as the basis for all authority in our church; we believe that the Bible is completely trustworthy and sufficiently reveals to us everything we need to believe in order to be saved. Reformed: We trace our roots back to the Reformation when the Bible was reclaimed as the foundation for all of life – including our occupation, education, church governance, our witness in the world, etc. Confessional: We adhere to, study and regularly reconfirm the historic creeds of the early church and the Three Forms of Unity (the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, the Canons of Dort). We consider these man-made documents to be faithful summaries of the Word of God, but they are always subject to the Bible as the final standard. Covenantal: We believe from the Bible that through the ages and still today the Lord works His grace mightily through the generations, using the means of Christian parental nurture to call many covenant children to faith. Liturgical: Our worship services are a reverent covenant dialogue between the congregation and the awesome Maker of heaven and earth; the heart of our service is the preaching of the Word highlighting Jesus Christ as the center of God’s plan of redemption and also features robust psalm and hymn singing, as well as the sacraments of infant baptism and the celebration of the Lord’s Supper.
