Everson-Nooksack Summer Festival this weekend Girls On The Run premiering festival fun run at 9 a.m. Sunday By Brent Lindquist reporter@lyndentribune.com
EVERSON — The Everson-Nooksack Summer Festival is back, with a few new additions to spice up the proceedings this year. Girls on the Run will host a 5K fun run titled “Run Like a Girl” at 9 a.m. on Sunday in the Nooksack City Park. Proceeds benefit the Girls On The Run scholarships for Nooksack Valley School District students participating in Girls on the Run. Anyone interested can sign up for the run at 8:30 p.m. Registration costs $20 and includes a T-shirt. For pre-registration, call Lisa at 966-9617. Girls on the Run is a nonprofit program offered through the Whatcom Family YMCA providing curriculum to inspire girls to build their inner confidence and celebrate what makes them unique. At the end of each running season, the girls participate in a Girls on the Run 5K event. This year’s run took place on Saturday, June 7, in Bellingham. Anyone, boy or girl, can participate in the Run Like a Girl fun run. The festival’s centerpiece will still be the Saturday morning Main Street parade, running from 11 a.m. to noon and featuring grand marshals Gary and Marge Almy. The whole festival kicks off more then 24 hours prior to the parade. “It’s a lot of stuff,” said Dan MacPhee, Everson police chief and festival coordinator. “The festival starts at 10 a.m. on Friday and runs all the way through 4 p.m. Saturday. But then on Sunday, the softball tourney is still going on.”
