No-Sew Sock Snowman * 1 white sock * 1 colored sock for the hat * Rice * Rubber bands (or thread) * Colorful buttons * Ribbons * Hot glue gun - please use extreme caution when operating a hot glue gun * Markers or paint * Orange pom poms Start by filling your white sock with rice. You will need a hefty amount. Once you are happy with the amount (and size) of your sock snowman tie the top with the rubber band. Take another rubber band and place in the middle - more to the upper side - of the rice filled sock to form the head shape. Now glue the buttons to the bottom side by using a glue gun. Add a ribbon for the scarf. Cut the colored sock (the foot without the heel) and fold it to appear as a snow hat for the head of your snowman. You can leave it as it is or you can secure it with some glue. Use markers or paint with colors of your choice to draw eyes and a mouth on the face of the snowman. Glue a singular orange pom pom to the face of the snowman to represent a carrot nose.
Creative Globe Ornaments * Clear plastic ornaments with a metal top found at any craft store * Paint, confetti, candy and other interesting extras for inside * Ribbon Spread out newspaper or other covering to protect work surface. Add in creative mixtures in the top hole of the ornaments. For example, add paint and swirl around, add your favorite mixture of confetti or even sand and small shells from a recent trip. Replace metal top with a dab of glue to adhere and add a bow with ribbon. Use ribbon to hang ornament and enjoy! page

Poffertjes (Dutch pancakes) Ingredients: 1 level teaspoon instant yeast, 1 tablespoon milk, 1 cup buckwheat flour, 1 cup white flour, 2 eggs, 1 teaspoon sugar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 1/4 cups warm milk, 1 tablespoon butter Optional toppings: Powdered sugar, strawberries, or whipped cream Dissolve the yeast in 1 tablespoon milk in a small bowl. In a different bowl, combine the buckwheat flour, white flour, sugar, salt, eggs & half the warm milk (5/8 cup). Add the yeast and milk combination and whisk ingredients until mixture is smooth. Add the remaining warm milk and re-beat. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let rest for an hour. After resting, melt 1 tablespoon butter in a poffertjes pan (a skillet or frying pan also work). When the butter starts to sizzle, add teaspoonfuls of the batter in circular movements to form the mini pancakes. Turn them around as soon as the bottom has set, best done by using two forks. Serve the poffertjes with butter and sieved powdered sugar, along with optional toppings.

ReadersCare
2019
The Lynden Tribune is excited to once again give our readers the opportunity to join us in helping those families and individuals most in need during this holiday season. This year we have selected these grant recipients; Project Hope, the Lynden Community Senior Center, and the Nooksack Valley Food Bank. These wonderful organizations provide invaluable services to our communities and we are glad to do our part. This year we are again proudly partnering with the Mount Baker Rotary Foundation. For each gift, a ‘thank you’ letter will be provided to each donor acknowledging the tax deductibility of their gift. The Lynden Tribune covers all the administrative costs of the program so that 100% of each gift to the Fund is passed along to these organizations. Thank you for your time and consideration; we hope you’ll join us in our 14th annual Readers Care Fund effort this year.
Sincerely,
