The Ticket Booth Your first stop at the park is the ticket booth outside the Tillicum House, where Steve and his helpers collect money from the ticket sales. This smiling group of volunteers and gate greeters will start your Olde Fashioned Christmas visit with a cheerful greeting, a hand stamp and all the information you need for a magical trip back in time through the Christmases of the past.

The Holeman House - School House Come visit our rustic schoolhouse to see our display of bears, cougars and wolves that children and families in the woods developed a healthy respect for! Learn how these animals lived and how settlers shared the woods and farmlands with their animal neighbors. At the schoolhouse, children 12 and under can sit at an old school desk, write a letter to Santa Claus at the North Pole and then take it to the park's Barrett Post Office to be mailed to Santa. Santa and his helpers work hard to see that all letters are answered in time for Christmas. Don’t forget to write your full name and address NEATLY and CLEARLY on your letter so that Santa will know exactly where to send his letter. While in the schoolhouse, ask the Schoolmarm to tell you all about going to school in a one-room schoolhouse in pioneer days. It was a very different experience for both pupils and their teachers!

on a high knoll and was Postmaster at Mountain View from 1899 to 1908. Afterwards, he acquired and successfully operated a shingle mill. This two-story cabin was remodeled several times to accommodate his growing family.

The Jenni House

Pioneer Park’s Outhouse

The Jenni House has been decorated for the theme, "Christmas in the Woods," with a tree in the front room adorned with birds, pine cones and wild animals. The house is filled with the smell of fresh baked cookies. The first stop is the kitchen, where visiting children can cut out their own Christmas cookies. After they finish enjoying activities in the rest of the house, they can stop back in the kitchen to enjoy the cookies fresh out of the oven. In the back room is the big table decorated for a Christmas dinner, where with the help of volunteers, children can get creative with crafting. Follow the sound of Christmas music playing upstairs where you can admire the festive Christmas tree and the amazing doll house that was beautifully put together and donated to the park by Barb De Freytas. I hope you will enjoy our Jenni House!

Oh my, guess what reindeer is making a pit stop before heading out for a night of pulling Santa around in his sleigh? Yes, we are happy to accommodate Santa’s team member in our old-fashioned outhouse. In the early days, the outhouse was sometimes called a “privy” and this one within our pioneer village is a dandy.

Intalco Aluminum Corporation bought the original site in 1990, Intalco donated the cabin to Pioneer Park where it now displays a full array of Printing Industry memorabilia to include the "Linotype" Model 1914, typesetting machine. The Linotype is 105 years old and was last fully functional in 2017. Other artifacts include a 1908 F.B. The Larson House This year to stay with the “Christmas in the Woods” theme, the Larson cabin, known as the trapper’s cabin, has been decorated with the theme of animals. More snow village miniatures from the Chet Speziale Collection are on display. Birds and forest animals are found peeking out here and there. Come and participate in our Scavenger Hunt and try to find all the animals on the list!

Parker House General Store Christmas spirit is bustling at the Parker House General Store! The store offers you the perfect present or maybe you’ll find that unique collectible for someone special. Come inside and feel the spirit of Christmas that isn’t your typical commercial mayhem found in the mall. Even our prices are very reasonable. Olde Fashioned store clerks are on hand to help you make the perfect selection and can even help you sneak away a treasure find.

Rogers House, Veteran’s Museum The Rogers House, which was built in 1877 by A. A. Rogers, is home to the American Legion Veteran's Museum. It honors the men and women who have served and are currently serving in all branches of the military. The cabin Christmas theme is a World War One soldier celebrating Christmas in the Woods. There is a children friendly camping display on the main floor and a Christmas tree ornament craft upstairs that children can create.

There’s candy and unique gifts for children of all ages who call this their favorite time of year. Stocked on the shelves are exciting gifts for everyone, with olde fashioned prices, penny candy, Olde English Crackers, and Pioneer Village souvenirs. The Pharmacy “Owls” is the theme for the Pharmacy upstairs in the Parker House. Come on up and see the Owls that inhabit our Washington State. Perhaps you will spot one while enjoying the outdoors in our beautiful Northwest. You will get a chance to try some “prescription candy” and participate in our free raffle for a special prize. The winners of the raffle drawings will be notified by phone if they are not present for the drawing. The original Ferndale Pharmacy opened around 1904. Walt and Donna Pollman bought the drug store in 1959, becoming the 4th owners. After 40 years they sold the pharmacy and retired in April of 1999. The Pollmans decided to start a museum here in Pioneer Park that pays homage to Ferndale Drug, including other pharmacies and drug stores that have been part of Ferndale's history.

Pioneer Village City Jail For the first time ever, the jail will be decorated during Olde Fashioned Christmas. Of course, what better building to use to showcase the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas? In the movie, Jack Skellington, king of Halloween Town, discovers Christmas Town, but his attempts to bring Christmas to his home causes confusion. Wander back behind the Shields House and see if you can find Oogie Boogie, Sandy Claws, or Sally. The jail is decorated by Whatcom Frightmare group who does the Haunted Barn in the Park in October. Their special effects are great. This Jail was constructed in the early 1880s near Lynden, WA. It has two cells. The original location of the 10’ X 12’ building is still somewhat of a mystery. In the 1930s or so, the building was moved to private property where it was used for storage. The building was then moved to Berthusen Park in Lynden where it remained for several years. The jail was moved to Pioneer Park by members of the Lynden Antique Tractor Association in 1996.

The Shields House Come on over and step inside the Shields House. Feel the woodsy presence as you are greeted by Louise and her many helpers. Apples from local trees need to be peeled and cooked for the mini apple pies that are served to our visitors. Wildlife collectables and rustic trees will be on display downstairs, including the “Christmas in the Woods theme tree. Also, in the living room the famous guy in a red suit will be waiting to visit with the guests and hear Christmas wish lists from the children. This is a great photo opportunity. Make the trek up the stairs and see one of the bedrooms as it has been transformed into a snowy scene in the woods. Even the animals gathered around the glowing bonfire are awaiting Christmas. In the other bedroom area, with help from our crafters, children will make a keepsake ornament to hang on their own tree.

Foster House Choo! Choo! Once again, the Foster House will feature Larry Hanson's train collection. This has become a very popular display at Olde Fashioned Christmas. We will also showcase Sue Brand's collection of a pioneer village in the woods. Make your way upstairs to see the several informational boards on what plants and animals you might see in the woods. Once again, our favorite tree wood ornament will be available for the kids to decorate for their tree at home. While here, make sure that you look around the Foster House to see the many early pioneer and Native American artifacts. We are looking forward to seeing everyone "In the Woods" at Christmas.

The Church

The Granary

Step inside our wonderful 143-year-old church and sit for a reflective moment in one of the old wooden pews. Allow the music and the wonderful smells of the woods to captivate your memories of Christmases from your past. Our church has been a sanctuary for Pacific Northwest settlers and pioneers for a very long time. Come enjoy the different musical groups and choirs and allow Olde Fashioned Christmas to be the beginning of your family's holiday celebration.

Welcome to the Granary! Whooo…or what might you find in the woods? An owl? Maybe a logger, a busy beaver or a moose? Join us to grind some corn and enter a drawing for a prize! There will be one drawing for adults and one for children. While at the Granary, check out the many farming and logging artifacts that have been used over the years in our local area.

Tillicum House It might be cold and chilly outside but here in the Tillicum House it’s warm and friendly. This year’s Olde Fashioned Christmas theme is “Christmas in the Woods” and we are decorating with pinecones & cedar boughs. Enjoy the hot cider or cocoa and delicious cookies donated by local businesses. Check the bulletin board to see who has donated and be sure to thank those businesses next time you visit them. While you eat, listen to the wonderful musicians that donate their time and talents to add to our holiday spirit. When you’re finished in the Tillicum House, don’t forget that your paid admission ticket entitles you to climb in the awaiting horse drawn wagon for the next ride that leaves the park and makes a loop through downtown Ferndale. The wagon leaves approximately every 10 minutes and stages right outside the Tillicum House. (Last wagon ride leaves the park 1/2 hour before closing).

Christmas Carols! Let it Snow

Away in a Manger

Oh the weather outside is frightful, But the fire is so delightful, And since we’ve no place to go, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

Away in a manger, no crib for His bed, The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head; The stars in the heavens looked down where He lay, The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.

It doesn’t show signs of stopping, And I’ve bought some corn for popping, The lights are turned way down low, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! When we finally kiss good night, How I’ll hate going out in the storm! But if you’ll really hold me tight, All the way home I’ll be warm. The fire is slowly dying, And, my dear, we’re still good-bying, But as long as you love me so, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

The cattle are lowing, the poor Baby wakes, But little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes. I love Thee, Lord Jesus; look down from the sky And stay by my cradle till morning is nigh. Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask Thee to stay Close by me forever and love me I pray! Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care, And fit us for Heaven to live with Thee there. Away in a manger, no crib for His bed, The little Lord Jesus laid down His sweet head; The stars in the heavens looked down where He lay, The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.

Silent Night

Frosty the Snowman

Silent night! Holy night! All is calm, all is bright, Round yon Virgin Mother and Child. Holy Infant, so tender and mild. Sleep in heavenly peace, Sleep in heavenly peace.

Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul, With a corncob pipe and a button nose and two eyes made out of coal. Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale, they say, He was made of snow but the children know how he came to life one day. There must have been some magic in that old silk hat they found. For when they placed it on his head he began to dance around. O, Frosty the snowman was alive as he could be, And the children say he could laugh and play just the same as you and me.

Silent night! Holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight; Glories stream from heaven afar, Heavenly host sing, Alleluia, Christ, the Savior is born! Christ the Savior is born! Silent night! Holy night! Son of God, love’s pure light, Radiant beams from Thy holy face, With the dawn of redeeming grace, Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth, Jesus, Lord at Thy birth.

Thumpetty thump thump, thumpetty thump thump, Look at Frosty go. Thumpetty thump thump, thumpetty thump thump, Over the hills of snow. Frosty the snowman knew the sun was hot that day, So he said, “Let’s run and we’ll have some fun now before I melt away.” Down to the village, with a broom stick in his hand, Running here and there all around the square saying, Catch me if you can. He led them down the streets of town right to the traffic cop. And he only paused a moment when he heard him holler “Stop!” For Frosty the snow man had to hurry on his way, But he waved goodbye saying, “Don’t you cry, I’ll be back again some day.” Thumpetty thump thump, thumpetty thump thump, Look at Frosty go.
