Nelson Mandela 1918-2013
The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear”
The Nelson Mandela Museum officially opened on 11 February 2000, to coincide with the tenth anniversary of his release from prison in 1990. Nelson Mandela insisted that the museum was not to be a static collection and tribute to him, but a living memorial to his values and vision. It was to inspire and enrich all who visit it and serve as a catalyst for development and share the heritage resources linked to him.
The Nelson Mandela Museum is more than a place; it is an experience that allows visitors to follow the footprints of the man affectionately known as ‘Madiba’, who’s long walk to freedom began in the foothills that rise from the banks of the Mbashe River in Mvezo. Enquire about the various accommodation available. Visitors are able to view various exhibitions and several sites directly associated with Nelson Mandela, such as the ruins of the school he attended.
Open Daily: Mon - Sun from 9am - 4pm except Workers Day. We accept after-hour bookings if made in advance.
No entrance fee - donations encouraged. For more information, please contact: Tel: +27(0) 47 532 5110 or +27(0) 47 538 0217. Fax: +27(0) 47 532 3345, Email: mandelamuseum2@intekom.co.za www.mandelamuseum.org.za
