tablespoons dried parsley 2 tablespoons ground dried rosemary 2 tablespoons rubbed dried sage 2 tablespoons dried thyme leaves 1 tablespoon lemon pepper 1 tablespoon salt 1 (15 pound) whole turkey, neck and giblets removed 2 stalks celery, chopped 1 orange, cut into wedges 1 onion, chopped 1 carrot, chopped 1 (14.5 ounce) can chicken broth 2

1 Directions 1. Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a turkey roaster with long sheets

of aluminum foil that will be long enough to wrap over the turkey. 2. Stir together the parsley, rosemary, sage, thyme, lemon pepper, and salt in a small bowl. Rub the herb mixture into the cavity of the turkey, then stuff with the celery, orange, onion, and carrot. Truss if desired, and place the turkey into the roasting pan. Pour the chicken broth and champagne over the turkey, making sure to get some champagne in the cavity. Bring the aluminum foil over the top of the turkey, and seal. Try to keep the foil from touching the skin of the turkey breast or legs. 3. Bake the turkey in the preheated oven for 2 1/2 to 3 hours until no longer pink at the bone and the juices run clear. Uncover the turkey, and continue baking until the skin turns golden brown, 30 minutes to 1 hour longer. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh, near the bone should read 180 degrees F (82 degrees C). Remove the turkey from the oven, cover with a doubled sheet of aluminum foil, and allow to rest in a warm area 10 to 15 minutes before slicing.

Ingredients      

1 Directions 1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Place ham in a roasting pan. 2. In a small saucepan, combine brown sugar, pineapple juice, honey, orange juice, orange

zest, Dijon mustard, and ground cloves. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes. Set aside. 3. Bake ham in preheated oven uncovered for 2 hours. Remove ham from oven, and brush with glaze. Bake for an additional 30 to 45 minutes, brushing ham with glaze every 10 minutes.

This cream gravy is an excellent recipe to make for fried chicken. Use sausage or bacon drippings and decrease the milk to about 1 1/2 cups for a thicker sawmill gravy for biscuits.

Ingredients  

3 tablespoons drippings 3 tablespoons flour 2 1/2 cups milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

Dash salt (or to taste)

Dash pepper (or to taste)

Steps to Make It.

Pour all drippings from skillet into a small bowl; measure and return 3 tablespoons.

Stir in flour until well blended; cook over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes, until bubbly.

Gradually add milk and cream; boil until thick and smooth, stirring constantly.

Season with salt and pepper to taste.

2. Always chill the fat (butter, margarine, shortening, or lard) and liquid before you begin. This prevents the fat pieces from getting creamed into the flour.  

Stir the flour, salt, and sugar (if using) together in a large bowl. Cut the chilled butter or shortening into the dry mixture using a pastry cutter or by pinching the fat into the mixture with your hands.  You can also use a food processor: pulse the flour with half the shortening until it's the texture of cornmeal. Add the remaining shortening or butter and pulse until it's the size of small peas.  Turn the mixture into a bowl. 3. Add the chilled water one tablespoon at a time, mixing gently with a fork after each addition. You should be able to gently press the dough into a ball. Handle the dough as little as possible; overworking will make it tough. 4. Split the dough in half. Pat the dough into balls, flattening them slightly, and wrap them in plastic wrap. 

The dough needs to rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. This allows the flour to absorb all of the liquid, lets the dough relax and become more elastic, and keeps the fat in discrete pieces which will give the crust a lighter texture when it's baked. 5. Generously dust a clean, dry surface with flour; remove and unwrap one of the discs of dough from the refrigerator. 

Flatten the dough slightly with your hands and dust the dough lightly with flour before rolling the dough out with a rolling pin.  Start rolling at the center of the dough and work outwards. If you're a beginning piemaker--or prefer easier cleanup--you can roll out the dough between sheets of waxed paper. 6. Working quickly, roll the dough into a circle ¼-inch thick or thinner. 

As you roll it out, lift up an edge or move the dough to ensure it's not sticking to the counter. Add flour as needed.  The dough round should be two to four inches wider in diameter than your pie pan. Use a dry pastry brush to sweep away any excess flour. 7. Gently fold the dough in half, and then into quarters. 

If it seems too brittle to fold, try another bakers' trick: roll up the pie crust around the rolling pin and unroll it over the pie plate.

Your Kids Carry Seeds Of Greatness; Do Not Give Up On Them by Daniel Dela Dunoo

In my relatively short life, I have observed a couple of young men and women who were once my school mates; many struggled through school. Some were downright academically poor where as others made consistently poor grades because they were simply not serious with their academics; they seemed a hopeless bunch. A couple of years down the line, I am more than impressed by what they have made of their lives. I look at their lives now but see no correlation between what they once were and what they are now. As a matter of fact, it will seem as though such individuals have always been smart, intelligent, serious minded and purpose driven. When the names of some of the world`s great achievers are mentioned, many assume these persons were actually geniuses from childhood. Many think such individuals had very bright and promising beginnings. And yes, some obviously had great beginnings. However, there are also scores of famous and well accomplished personalities who were once considered unintelligent. For some, authority figures in their sphere of contact who should have known better actually thought they were hopeless to such an extent that it will be impossible for them to amount to anything in life. In this piece I have opted to briefly share the remarkable stories of six of such individuals. It is hoped that kids, parents, teachers and society at large will find these stories inspiring, thoughtprovoking and instructive. Albert Einstein: A world-renowned scientist, theoretical physicist and the 1921 Nobel Prize winner for Physics. Reliable records reveal that as a boy Einstein`s grades were so poor that a teacher asked him to quit, saying, "Einstein, you will never amount to anything."

Your Kids Carry Seeds Of Greatness; Do Not Give Up On Them by Daniel Dela Dunoo

Ludwig Van Beethoven: He was one of the most celebrated classical music composers of all time. His music teacher once said of him, "as a composer, he is hopeless." He lived to prove his teacher`s opinion of him wrong. Thomas Edison: He was a prolific inventor and an entrepreneur par excellence. He is especially world famous for his invention of light bulb. As a boy, his academic performance was so poor that he was told by his teacher that he was too stupid to learn anything. Stephen Spielberg: He is a multiple award winning American film director. Dropped out of Junior High School and was subsequently placed in a learning-disabled class. He remained in the school for a month, dropping out of school forever. Isaac Newton: He is one of the most celebrated scientists and mathematics to have ever walked on this plane of life. While in grade school as a kid, he was so weak academically that his teachers gave up on improving his grades. Brian Tracy: A bestselling author, top sales speaker, trainer and consultant. He is also the founder and president of Brian Tracy International. He writes of his days in high school: "I didn`t graduate from high school. In fact, I behaved so badly in high school that I was suspended and eventually expelled from three different schools." What is the lesson in all this? These notable achievers and several others like them refused to accept the humiliating labels that were placed on them and refused to settle for what seemed to have been their lot. They broke free from the stereotypical mold and charted noble courses for themselves. I wish to submit that a persons current status or quality of life isn`t final; change is the only constant. Consequently, no parent should ever give up on his or her ward. No teacher should ever give up on his or her pupils and students. Students and pupils should never give up on themselves and should never look down on their peers. Within every human being are seeds of greatness. With the right environment, these seeds will germinate, grow and blossom. I am a freelance writer/editor, blogger & a published author. even weeks down. Seven weeks to go. in that time, college football has gone from 130 unbeaten teams to eight. The number will go down by at least one this weekend when No. 3 Clemson hosts No. 15 North Carolina State. The ACC Atlantic showdown likely will produce the division's representative in the conference title game as it is unlikely the Tigers or Wolfpack lose twice more after this game. The winner also takes a huge step forward in the race for the College Football Playoff field. The other two games matching ranked opponents come from the Pac-12. No. 11 Oregon tries to keep its momentum going after last week's overtime defeat of Washington. But the Ducks head to Pullman for a dangerous meeting with No. 23 Washington State. A win would put Oregon in great shape in the Pac-12 North and keep their playoff hopes alive. The Cougars, however, won't be welcoming hosts. No. 14 Washington and No. 25 Colorado are both coming off losses. Neither wants to start a losing streak as they both still have hopes of making the conference title game. Elsewhere, there are a couple tricky road games in the Big Ten to note. No. 2 Ohio State travels to suddenly hot Purdue, while No. 7 Michigan, fresh off its defeat of Wisconsin, heads to rival Michigan State.

Spencer Gallagher to retire from NASCAR competition

Spencer Gallagher to retire from NASCAR competition Gallagher, 28, is competing this weekend in the Xfinity Series’ Kansas Lottery 300 (Saturday, 2:55 p.m. ET, NBC, MRN, SiriusXM). “It has been an incredible journey getting to watch this team grow and flourish and become something incredible from very humble beginnings. I can’t wait to be there personally. This is not me stepping back from NASCAR. If anything, it’s stepping further into it,” said Gallagher, who will join his father, Maury, on the management team at GMS. “This has been a big decision; this has been something I’ve been thinking about for a long, long time. GMS started out surrounded around Spencer Gallagher, but since then it has grown to be something so much more and it’s something so much bigger now. I think it’s time to take the next step and really see what this team can do. I think to do that, my greatest utility to GMS lies elsewhere other than the driver’s seat. I think there’s a lot of really talented drivers out there and we have an incredible team. I want to see this team grow and I want to see this team grow to flourish.”

“I can share with you on a personal level, candidly, I’ve spent 10 years out here on this coast away from my family,” he said. “A couple months ago it occurred to me that, God forbid, should one of my parents kicks the bucket tomorrow and I’ve spent the last 10 years out here driving race cars … I don’t know if I could ever forgive myself. “Beyond that, and I’m serious when I say that I think there are big opportunities for myself, for GMS and for all of us within this sport and industry and I intend to pursue them aggressively. Being outside of the driving role allows me to do that further.” As far as what he expects to bring to the table in his managerial role, Gallagher played coy but promised “big things.” He indicated that his connections in Silicon Valley could play a part in the evolution of motorsports not just for GMS, but NASCAR as a whole. Gallagher also mentioned that making the move up to the Monster Energy Series is “always o“The genesis of (the decision) was I started looking at all the cool technologies and opportunities that exist within this industry. I think racing is an incredibly fascinating intersection of the auto industry and the high science and technology industry. And that’s what I come from. For those who don’t know, before I did this, I was a professional nerd, and a good one. And I think a lot of my prior skill sets are transferable to this industry. I can’t talk about any of the stuff I’ll be doing until I’m doing it, but trust me when I say, I’ve got big things planned for GMS and this industry as a whole.” When pushed for a hint at what he might have in store for the industry moving forward, Gallagher paused, then offered a classic “Spencer-being-Spencer” kind of response. “I’ve got big plans for us,” he said, smiling.n the table for us,” a move that has been rumored since last year.

NC Wildlife Commission bans importation of deer carcasses to prevent spread of disease If you're hunting deer outside of North Carolina this season, you now will need to follow strict guidelines before bringing meat or antlers back home. The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission has implemented a new rule for the 2018-19 hunting season prohibiting the importation of whole deer carcasses and restricting importation of specific carcass parts from anywhere outside of North Carolina. The rule is an effort to prevent the spread of chronic wasting disease, said Jodie Owen, wildlife commission spokeswoman. Known as CWD, it is a transmissible, fatal neurological disease affecting cervids, which includes deer, elk, moose and reindeer/caribou. The rule states that anyone transporting cervid carcass parts into North Carolina must follow processing and packaging regulations, which only allow the importation of: Meat that has been boned out such that no pieces or fragments of bone remain.  Caped hides with no part of the skull or spinal column attached.  Antlers, antlers attached to cleaned skull plates, or cleaned skulls free from meat, or brain tissue.  Cleaned lower jawbone(s) with teeth or cleaned teeth. Additionally, all carcass parts or container of cervid meat or carcass parts must be labeled or identified with the following: 

Name and address of individual importing carcass parts.  State, Canadian province, or foreign country of origin.  Date the cervid was killed.  Hunter’s license number, permit number, or equivalent identification from the state, Canadian province, or foreign country of origin. 

n 2010 in 2011, CWD was detected just across the West Virginia border in Virginia and Maryland. In October 2012, Pennsylvania’s first case of CWD was detected in a captive white-tailed deer. North Carolina is catching up with much of the rest of the country. Most states have some form of importation and/or exportation regulations for cervid carcasses and carcass parts, including bordering states South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia. The number of states that have documented CWD continues to increase. The wildlife commission has a number of efforts underway to monitor for the disease and is committed to working with the public to protect the state’s deer herd from CWD, Owen said. To date, CWD has been primarily found in elk, mule deer, white-tailed deer, moose, and reiUntil the spring of 2005, the nearest case to North Carolina was in northern Illinois. Kathleen Kennedy Reportedly Confirms the Boba Fett Movie Is Dead by Adam Chitwood

October 26, 2018

It appears that the Boba Fett movie isn’t happening after all. When it was first announced that Disney had purchased Lucasfilm and new Star Wars movies were being planned, it was reported that a spinoff focusing on the Boba Fett character was one of the many non-Episode films in development. That project was finally confirmed this past May when it was reported that James Mangold would write and direct the Boba Fett movie. This news just so happened to break literally one day before Solo: A Star Wars Story opened in theaters, a film that wasn’t tracking so hot for its opening weekend. While the Boba Fett movie may very well have been in development, the timing of the announcement seemed curious—sometimes studios will break news about future sequels or spinoffs so audiences feel obligated to see whatever film precedes them, which in this case was Solo. But regardless of whether that leak was calculated or not, Collider exclusively broke the news this past June that future A Star Wars Story spinoffs—including the Boba Fett movie—were on hold as Lucasfilm readjusted following the disappointing box office performance of Solo.I

Plenty were skeptical, but now Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has reportedly confirmed as much. Reporter Erick Weber was attending a special screening of Black Panther last night (no doubt as part of Disney’s Oscar campaign for the film), and he says Kennedy confirmed to him that the Boba Fett movie is dead (via The Playlist): This is directly in line with what we reported this summer. While Solo’s worldwide box office total of $339 million is nothing to scoff at, it’s a mere fraction of what every other Star Wars film in the Disney era made. The Force Awakens, Rogue One, and The Last Jedi all cracked $1 billion, so $339 million comparatively is kind of disastrous—especially for a film about the most beloved character in the franchise. And honestly, good on Lucasfilm for taking a beat and ensuring they forge ahead on the right path rather than simply continuing on with a plan that clearly had some kinks in it. Creator Jon Favreau’s TV series The Mandalorian promises to open up an entirely new corner of the Star Wars universe on Disney’s streaming service, so it makes sense that they’d want to focus on getting that right while trusted filmmaker J.J. Abrams is off .

What happens beyond that is anyone’s guess. Rian Johnson has been enlisted to create a new Star Wars trilogy focusing on brand new characters, while Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are due to create another new Star Wars franchise on the big screen. It also looks like that Obi-Wan movie isn’t happening anymore either. In the wake of Solo’s disappointment, it sounds like Lucasfilm may finally be looking forward rather than digging into its past. Here’s hoping.

Netflix’s ‘Lost Girls’ Casts ‘Leave No Trace’ Breakout, ‘Hereditary’ Star

Lola Kirke (Gemini), Oona Laurence (Pete’s Dragon), Dean Winters (Oz), Miriam Shor (The Americans), Reed Birney (House of Cards) and Rosal Colon (Orange Is the New Black) round out the cast along with the great Kevin Corrigan (Goodfellas). Two-time Oscar nominee Liz Garbus (What Happened Miss Simone?) will direct and make her narrative feature debut with the film, which is based on the award-winning non-fiction book by Robert Kolker. Michael Werwie wrote the script, fresh off his upcoming Ted Bundy movie starring Zac Efron. Lost Girls follows Mari Gilbert (Ryan) as she relentlessly drives law enforcement agents to search for her missing daughter, and in the process sheds light on a wave of unsolved murders of young female sex workers on the South Shore barrier islands of Long Island. McKenzie will play Ryan’s daughter, while Byrne will play the Police Commissioner overseeing the investigation. Lost Girls was previously set up at Amazon Studios with Sarah Paulson attached to star, but Netflix picked up the project in recent months. Anne Carey (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) is producing via her Archer Gray banner, while Kevin McCormick (The Goldfinch) will produce via his company Langley Park Pictures. Garbus will executive produce alongside Carrie Fix, Rory Koslow, Amy Nauiokas and Vinay Singh. Kolker’s book is one of the best true crime tales I’ve ever read, a story made even more maddening because the Gilgo Beach killer has never been found despite murdering between 10 and 16 people over a period of nearly 20 years. My fascination with the book doesn’t lie with its gory details, but rather, the humanity Kolker displays in writing about the victims and speaking with the families of the deceased. There’s a real sensitivity in the author’s approach, and I happen to think that Ryan is stronger casting than Paulson for this role, which requires a certain softness. I can’t wait to see how Garbus depicts Mari Gilbert’s strength, as well as her vulnerability. McKenzie is a rising star from New Zealand who has earned raves for her performance opposite Ben Foster in Debra Granik‘s indie drama Leave No Trace. She’ll next be seen alongside Scarlett Johansson in Taika Waititi‘s Jojo Rabbit. McKenzie recently wrapped Netflix’s historical drama The King as well as The True History of the Kelly Gang, which pairs her with Russell Crowe and Nicholas Hoult. She is represented by UTA, Untitled Entertainment, Industry Entertainment and Gail Cowan Management.
