Light Up the Lyric

Take Part and Light Up the Lyric ‘At the Lyric Hammersmith we are proud of the way our staff, performers, supporters and audiences take part in creating a dynamic theatrical and social experience.’ Artistic Director Sean Holmes The Lyric Hammersmith is West London’s largest producing theatre. Over our hundred year history we have been responsible for creating some of the UK’s most ground-breaking theatrical work. At the same time the Lyric has also gained a national reputation for its work with and for young people including its extensive programme of theatre for children and families and its creative learning and participation projects for schools and young West Londoners.

‘The Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith, neither leads the fashion nor follows it; is neither high-brow nor low-brow. It is simply a theatre which thinks for itself.’ A.A. Milne c1925 The Lyric’s dual commitment to producing the highest quality contemporary theatre, alongside nurturing the creativity of young people is what makes it unique within the theatre ecology of the UK. We have one of the youngest audiences of any theatre in the country and are a place where some of the UK’s finest actors and theatre-makers work side-by-side with some of the most diverse and disadvantaged young people in London. The cross-fertilization of these two is what makes the Lyric Hammersmith so exciting and so distinctive. We are a local theatre rooted in our community with a national and international reputation for the quality and innovation of our artistic work. As a registered charity, we fund our work through a combination of ticket sales, government subsidy and fundraising. The generous support of our audiences is a crucial part of this mix: it enables us to continue to produce brilliant live theatre and create programmes to challenge and inspire young people of all social and economic backgrounds. Light Up The Lyric is an opportunity for you to take a bigger part in the life of the Lyric and help us to continue our groundbreaking work both on and off stage. Light Up a Life We believe in the power of theatre to change people’s lives. At the Lyric we reach thousands of young people with inspiring activities and projects that make a real difference to their lives. For some very challenged young people this has meant helping them with basic life skills like time management, respect for others and having confidence in their own abilities along with developing their literacy skills to enable them to be more able to study or work. For others it provides them with the opportunity they would not have had otherwise to get involved in the arts. These activities provide skills and experience to help these young people achieve their potential. Take part and have genuine impact on young people’s lives. • Meet with the Lyric’s Artistic Team to choose a project you would like to support • Come and see the project in action and meet the participants and artists involved • Receive written reports on the development and outcomes of the project • Receive acknowledgement of your support in a variety of ways Donation £1,000+
