In Bangladesh, the practice going on in the field of housing, has a trend to work for the upper middle and upper class; neglecting the less fortunate people who really need our attention. Another thing that has been jeopardizing our contextual identity is the current architectural practice of following western architectural patterns without any legitimate thought. In the face of it all, now is the right time to be careful about these delicate issues and work to find a viable solution. Khulna city is the 3rd largest city of Bangladesh located in the southern west area. For industrial development many workers & day labours stays here. After liberation War of 1971 number of refuge increased in city area. To solve the situation in 1974 a place in Boyra area was undertaken outside Khulna CBD to promote mass housing. The place was named “Bastuhara Housing”. This housing have some strong potentialities like community bonding & sharing which created a strong social security. The influential semi-outdoor & outdoor activity & their adaptive quality is a huge potentiality for mass housing revitalization. Managing the high density & resident’s multipurpose use of the space of the spaces are most challenging elements of this housing. Without linkage with the ground, this mass housing revitalization will fail.

Front road of houses are interactive space. Resident’s use that space as their courtyard. Developing the environment of that street by using brick pavement block quality of that space can be enhanced. With changing condition of family size there will be needs of vertical growth of built forms. Introducing building solution to keep this space & scale intact the interactive life of Growing service points as community space the street can be protected.
Growing service points as community space
Vertical developments of build forms Bath space beside tube well is a great interactive space for all the members of this community. Dump zone is created because of low maintenance. We like to improve that space as a thought sharing space. A well planed toilet design will ensure better health condition for the people of this community.
Enhancing the street life & providing existing scale & interaction in vertical growth
Revitalization Scheme Preserving the quality of street life.
Protecting natural resource & creating opportunity of income generation through pisciculture.
Relocating illegal commercial area & encouraging mixed use development beside main road. Creating a scale to maintain balance between housing locality & residential area in front of it.
Enrich service points as community space.

Children are taking their education with minimum facilities. By proving school dress and developing the environment of the school we can encourage them for study. Children of this community use the courtyard like street in front of their house as playing space .Developing a park like playing space for the children in the open fiend besides primary school will ensure their mental and physical growth.
60 feet front road has a great commercial value for the community. Some commercial shop also exists at present. We like the propose a well planed commercial development for this road to ensure a better income generation of this community people. It will also ensure the balance the skyline of the city section height.
Central water body can be a great source of community income by developing fish culture. Most of the women of this community have developed their skill in cottage industry . We like to propose a community women club to enrich their skill and income. Human, cattle and poultry are living in a unhealthy condition . By creating a different zone for the cattle and poultry in every road this problem can be solved.
CONCEPT In the conventional practice we see, housing solution patterns that have been used over and over again. These typical housing patterns, where everything HAS TO BE prototype, and everything HAS TO HAVE an exact location; creates the ever so 100%100% monotonous space quality that we see in every housing. The over used iron grid pattern has made any housing project -- Space SpaceSharing– Sharing– - Recreational space Recreational space – 10%– unwelcoming and uninteresting in a very awkward way. Even with all the advantages and facilities available in a housing state, -- Multipurpose use of space – 30% - Multipurpose use of space – people especially the young people, or students often feel the regulatory design approach a bit restrictive. Monolithic housing often 30% Development through use masterplan zoning and thus turns the housing estate into a project with no life. street... street is shared Development through Resource: Resource:

Human beings are independent creatures with the ability of free will and the unique, variable characteristics of individuality. They cannot be compared to a herd of sheep or goat, that one can build up a ranch or a stable and stack them up in an orderly fashion. like to live with ‘apparent irregularity’ or ‘controlled uncertainty’; that is just the way we were created. And there’s nothing wrong with it.

We have been habituated to live for thousands of years in this world with unplanned and apparently unplanned development patterns. The question is, Why should the prototype housing design for mass people to live in should be so impeccably perfect? The concept of it all is self contradictory in itself. In the condition as such, we need to go beyond the typical housing solutions. We have to break the cliched monotony that every housing project has to offer us. Thus, by modifying the typical formulation of “mass Housing” we can create new opportunities for mass people habitat. Hence the concept...
LIVING WITH APPARENT IMPERFECTION
CONCEPT DEPICTION Here is a diagram that represents the above discussed ‘apparent irregularity’ or, ‘controlled uncertainty’. In the diagram given Resource: -Water body above we can see the typical iron grid solutions -Play Fields for housing. -Religious Amenities If we compare, we can easily see that, in both the patterns there are certain recess points, resources and communication lines. In both the diagram the housing amenities have equally been distributed among the user groups. But in the second diagram the exact same thing has been done, with more flexibility and ease. The apparent unpredictability or irregularity can be a stimuli for the people living inside.
Recess Points: -A patch of green -A community shop -A tea-stall -A community training center -A service point: Water supply, Sanitation etc.

Apparent Imperfection
In the proposed scheme there are numerous recess points that will actually initiate community interaction and act as mingling points for the housing residents. In this scheme in contrast to the conventional one, the recess points are scattered all over the project enabling better and more natural type of neighborhood.

GLOBAL TRANSFERABILITY The transferability of this concept is beyond question, as it requires no particular design element, or expertise in certain skill or construction technique; rather, it is a modification of the theme of housing settlement pattern. So, it can be said that, with the differences of climate, geology, nationality etc., this concept can contribute to any housing project with a more sustainable approach, anywhere in the world.
