MKT-06048-0217 Tracking #1-819232 (Exp. 02/22)

September From the General Manager, Mark Reid

Labor Day weekend represents the start of winding down what was a wonderful summer in Lakewood. Although the pools will be closed, we still have many comfortable weather days ahead to enjoy the rest of our amenities.

In This Issue

We have also begun some off-season projects like resurfacing the Main and East Lake Village Tennis Courts as well as replacing some marina docks in October. We experienced some significant damage to several docks, but primarily “E” dock during the severe storm on Thursday, August 12. We are working with our Dock supplier on a plan to either fix the dock or replace it in its entirety. We are funded to replace the East Lake Marina Docks, “D”, “E” & “F” but this project was delayed this year due to our manufacturers schedule and the inability to obtain the molded plastic floats due to pandemic material shortages. We will work through the challenges, and we plan to have the remaining West Lake Docks replaced in October and the remaining East Lake Docks replaced in late Spring 2022.

The July Consumer Price Index came in at 5.4%. This is the number that we will use in our Maximum Annual Assessment Calculation. We were pleased that the inflation rate tempered in July and settled below the 6% we previously anticipated. We will be working diligently over the next three months to balance the needs and wants of the community and establish a new budget for 2022 that reasonably meets the expectations of membership and keeps us on track with our Reserve obligations per our professional Reserve Study. This process culminates on Thursday November 4th when the Finance Committee and Facilities Development Committee hold a public meeting and present their budget that they are recommending to the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors will vote on the Budget in their Thursday, November 11, 2021, meeting.

I appreciated receiving the multiple LIP requests from our members at the end of July. It is always pleasing to hear from membership and receive their thoughts and ideas as we then put together the big list of potential projects and then use our committee-based process to recommend the timeliest and mission critical projects as reasonably possible within a constrained budget. So, as we say goodbye to another Lakewood Summer, we get ready to say hello to a cool and beautiful Fall. Enjoy.

Board of Directors’ Meeting Actions taken August 12, 2021

September brings with it many things—beautiful sunny days, new routines, busy school schedules, and plenty of change! As we prepare for the change of seasons, I want to wish you all the best as the children return to school and summer nears the end. With the warm weather still upon us, remember to enjoy our beautiful Lakewood facilities and surrounding nature. Please take note of the change in pool schedules; these help our staff stay vigilant and ultimately allow our residents to have the best experiences they possibly can. Activities Committee did it again by pulling off an incredible event, Concert on the Rock. Many of you wait all year for this phenomenal tradition at Lakewood and this year proved no different. I am looking forward to the rest of the fun festivities Lakewood Activities Committee has to offer this year. Enjoy the month of September!

LPOA/LHC BOARD MEETINGS September 9 • October 14 • November 11 Meetings take place at 6:30 p.m. at The Lakewood Oaks Clubhouse.

EAGLES OF LAKEWOOD Eagles (genus Aquila) have a massive beak, powerful wings, and a large frame. They are generally found soaring in search of food. Much larger and less agile than Hawks, Eagles often prefer to hunt fish, rabbits, and squirrels, rather than small rodents. Eagles commonly found in Missouri are the Bald Eagle and Golden Eagle. Nick Erker Lakewood Artist Exhibit Welcome to another talented Lakewood artist, Nick Erker, who will display his art during the months of September and October in the Argyle Gallery. Nick grew up in a small Kansas town listening to his elders tell stories at large family gatherings. His uncles, aunts, grandparents, etc., were the inspiration for Nick’s narrative art. Early in his creative life, Nick was influenced by American realist artists, Andrew Wyeth, Edward Hopper, and European artists such as Eugene Delacroix and Sir Anthony van Dyke. He was inspired by their ability to compose works that transpose the viewer into the story and has developed that vision into his own art with watercolor on wood panels.

"Myopic images of Americana and the intimacy of rural America are at the heart of Erker's artistic narrations." (www.nicholaserker.com) Nick graduated from University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education and received a Master of Arts in Art History from University of Missouri-Kansas City. He has devoted his career to

14

The Ripples // September 2021

educating others in art and design and currently teaches art at Fort Osage High School. Nick and his wife J’Nan have lived in three different homes in Lakewood over the past 10 years. They enjoy the lake and living close to J’Nan’s family. Nick gives loving credit to his wife and family for encouraging him to share his art in solo exhibits and group art shows. Nick’s art depicts the stories of his childhood through vivid images of family members’ expressions and mannerisms as he remembers them. His subjects are larger than life. Please come up to the Argyle, enjoy a drink or dinner with your neighbors, and take the time to enjoy the stories that Nick Erker wants you to remember with him through his works of art.
