PROFESSIONS AND OCCUPATIONS

TELEWORKING,WHAT NOW?: The future of post.pandemic employment.

2

Apparently, some changes of this new normal that we are releasing a few months ago have come to stay. The home office mode is one of them. The remote work of those jobs that could be converted to virtuality is one of the transformations that will last even when the pandemic has passed. A report recently published by the McKinsey agency analyzes what the future of work will be like after COVID-19 and what the impact of this new scenario will be on labor markets around the world. Will we go back to the office? Will there be face-to-face events? How will we keep our distance in the meetings? These are some of the questions that most workers in the fields that were able to adapt to the new digital world ask themselves on a daily basis. The pandemic transformed everything and the job market has been no exception. The unexpected arrival of COVID-19 disrupted labor markets around the world during 2020. The short-term consequences were sudden and often severe: Millions of people were laid off or lost their jobs, and others quickly adapted to working from home when the offices are closed. Many other workers were considered essential and continued to work in hospitals and essential stores, in garbage trucks and in warehouses, although under new protocols to reduce the spread of the new coronavirus. The McKinsey agency published a report on the future of work after COVID19 in which they examine aspects of the post-pandemic economy. The research assesses the lasting impact of the pandemic on labor demand, occupational mix and required workforce skills in eight countries with diverse economic and labor market models: China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. Together, these eight countries represent almost half of the world's population and 62% of GDP.
