Welcome

Explore, learn and discover... The last of the autumn leaves have fallen and the frost may have settled in for the winter but there are still plenty of things to look forward to over the coming months. As we see in the New Year it’s time to forget about fad diets and unused gym memberships, our latest season of courses and workshops provides everyone with the opportunity to exercise both mind and body. The spring programme welcomes the return of some trusted favourites including Cultural Ceramics, which focuses on African, Japanese and European aspects of the art form, and last season’s sold out Stand up Comedy course is back. Our jewellery workshops return alongside new classes, Plastic Fantastic and Bejewelled, whilst performance, film and digital elements cross paths in Make Film, Make Theatre.

This season we are bringing even more professional development opportunities into the building. Jane Packman presents a series of workshops and master classes based on her latest piece The Woods, opening in February, and Sonia Sabri leads a session based on her new production Kathakbox, premiering at mac on Wed 16 Feb 2011. What’s more over half term there are activities for children and adults alike, highlights include an Introduction to Making Short Films and Creative Drama week. So whether bought as a festive gift or to fulfil a New Year’s resolution you are sure to find something to keep you entertained over the spring months at mac.

Fevered Sleep Symposium Wed 16 Mar 11am–3pm Followed by option of seeing And the Rain Falls Down at 4pm (45 minutes)

The Future Playground, curated by Fevered Sleep and produced by Fuel, is an opportunity for artists, leaders, producers and promoters to come together to reflect on the extraordinary creative opportunities that are offered when we make work for children. The Future Playground looks at the changing landscape of performance and art for young audiences, charting new territories, new ideas, and a growing group of artists who are working across artforms and across age ranges to re-imagine what that landscape might be. A provocation to artists, the event aims to inspire and encourage a range of people, working in all sorts of ways across all sorts of artforms, to think about making work for children. For more information please call the Arts Team on 0121 4463243. Fevered Sleep has an international reputation for devising work for children and adults that is both playful and profound. In And the Rain Falls Down they will be transforming mac’s theatre into a stunning place full of drips, drops and downpours... in a world where every drop of water has a life of its own.
