NEXT Hub 8 Weeks | Individual Project Atlanta, GA
Located in Atlanta, Georgia, the NEXT office seeks to improve the health and wellness of its users. This office space draws inspiration from the Chattahoochee River, to create a space that provides fluid movement and connections among individuals. The office space reflects the three parts of the river; the headwater, channel, and mouth. The headwater, where the water is calm and serene will reflect a lower energy level on the first floor. Private work spaces and a mediation room will invoke a serene atmosphere. The channel of the river will reflect the navigational paths between spaces and the journey users take to travel through the space. The stairs act as the interruption point just as the river is abrupted by the dams. This point in the space connects both levels together. Lastly, the mouth of the river that connects to form a basin, where water movements are intense are reflective of higher energy collaboration zones on the second floor.

Parti Organic movement mimicking the flow of the river with an interruption point that represents the river hitting the dams. The first curve invokes the movement of the beginning of the river, a slow curved stream. The end of the river flows straighter and with more rapid water movements.

Private Enclaves
Enclaves (Above) Private enclaves serve as individual work areas that alow for more focused/privatized work. These represent the low energy atmosphere that is fostered on the first floor.
Stairs (Left) The staircase is inspired by the movement of water as it flows through the river and is interrupted by the dam. It reflects the verticality of the dam itself, and causes a shift of movement in the space as users travel between the floors.

The classroom allows for an easy transition between learning modes. All furniture has wheels and can be arranged to best suit the users needs. Movable partitions allow the classroom to exand into the adjacent inspiration zone.
Pairs Configuration provides for a combination of individual and collaborative work.
Lecture Traditional set up allows for focus to be on the front of the room.
Small Teams Set up focuses on group work. Whiteboards on walls provide tools for collaboration.
Axis Records 6 Weeks | Individual Project New York, New York Located in Yankee Stadium, this skybox draws inspiration from the beat time sequence that creates the structure of rap and hip hop music. In this style of hip hop, there is a consistent four count beat otherwise known as a 4/4 time signature. Artists create rhyming syllables that are chanted in time to the beat. There is an equal count of notes that make up the structure of each measure. The beat sequence provides a steady rhythm that creates a pattern that is proportional and repetitive. After the initial beat sequence is established, artists add their own style or flare that becomes a unique signature to their work. Drawing out the symmetry of the rhythm from the music, the 4/4 time signature creates an equal balance of beats. The skybox will play off the symmetry of the rhythm by central circulation paths that form an equal balance of complementary spaces within the skybox. The material palette features dark non-traditional textures accented with pops of colors that draw out characteristics from the streets of the Bronx. The skybox will bring together artists in the modern day like the musical language first did when it formed.

Parti This diagram references the equal balance of notes that form a measure in hip hop songs. The measure if folded would match as it mirrors eachother just like this diagram. Consistent and repetitive groupings of spaces are anchored to a central line of symmetry that splits the space.

SHIFT & COLLIDE 8 Weeks | Individual Project Pheonix, AR A canyon is a deep cleft between cliffs resulting from weathering and erosion from a river or the shifting of tectonic plates underneath the Earth’s crust. These movements cause significant changes to the landscape. As a result of these collisions, layers of sedimentary rock build up.
S T E A M
Mimicking the movements of tectonic plates, a shifting passageway divides the space down the middle like the river splits the landscape in half. This middle circulation space creates collisions among users emulating how the rocks collided together to create ridges. The sides of the library act as the cliffs of a canyon with spaces stacking on top of one another to create layers between floors. Spaces that house the most visitors are split on either side of the main central pathway that divides the space in half. The pathway mimicks the movement of water that creates ridges in canyons. The adjacent spaces represent the remaining rock that forms as a result of the movement.

Axonometric Central circulation space acts as the main channel of the canyon, the mezzanine and teen space areas act as the canyon walls. Niches of rooms break off from the main space, and multiple ceiling heights create a unique layering effect. Custom ceiling design features an acoustic material to absorb sounds traveling through the space.

The childrens room features a custom reading wall with circular cut out nooks. Circular lighting fixtures and curved lines on the floor provide organic elements to contrast with the geometric movements throughout the rest of the space. Pops of color along with the organic movements create a playful and engaging environment.
Teen Room
Teen Space Teen space features a custom light fixture that plays off of the push and pull movement of tectonic plates. The curved linear wall resesmbles the layering of sediment rock. The teen space is spilt into three rooms to allow for multiple purposes and to control noise levels. Custom Light Fixture
