DETAIL 1 To achieve the extensive and widespread amount of green in the scaffolding structure, two interventions have been introduced. First, there is the design of plant boxes, one type of system that can be changed in length and height. By using this system different types of plants can be inserted inside the structure, avoiding that plants should start growing at the ground level. Second, a grid of steel cables has been attached to rosettes of the scaffolding, offering the climbing plants a way to grow, without using the scaffolds itself. Lights have been designed using two very common but efficient setups, the fluorescent tube and the wharf spot. Both systems can be connected to the scaffolds in a very practical way, easy to displace. DETAIL 2 The structure of scaffolds transfers its weight to the grid of concrete tiles, designed to work together in a coherent manner, for example regarding measurement. The tiles serve at the same time both as foundation and finishing material. Due to the choice that the concrete panels are prefab, a plug is inserted in every corner of the tile, to serve a double purpose. On one hand, they are used to place the tiles during construction, on the other hand they form a junction for a flexible placement of street furniture. This street furniture, such as banks, street signs, railings, garbage cans … can also be joined together with the basic scaffolding structure, easy in maintenance.

DETAIL 3 The separation between the outdoor space and a covered, draft and rainproof place is the main element of this detail, especially with a sliding panel involved. This closable, sliding door is situated at the inside of the transparent shell, moving in one surface and over several facade elements, but doesn’t intervene with the supporting structure. The wheels are integrated between the floor plates, making an even and safe passage possible. Based on to the choice of materials, hollow pipes and corrugated plates, the sliding door is a solid but light structure, easy to operate. Every joint and element is made of basic Layher elements, even the handle is a basic ledger. The floor plates are attached between the ledgers of the scaffolding, using a click system with security, in such way that every ledger only carries one set of three floor plates, spreading the weight equally. Due to the transparency of the corrugated plates, the structure shows itself as an outside room. DETAIL 4 Combining several joinings in one rosette is one of the most important principles of a scaffolding design. Each rosette contains eight openings making it possible to connect at least 3, and even 5 surfaces in one crossing point. In that approach, it’s feasible to have two railings in front of each other, creating a safe environment, with a diagonal brace in between them. The finishing of floor plates and stairs is both produced in the same material, namely oak, to obtain unity in the project. Oak offers an environment friendly option, because its durability and untreated usage. The way of placing the wooden planks makes it possible to replace them without any troubles.

DETAIL 5 To preserve the strong outlines of the geometric volume, the roof gutter is integrated inside this volume, respecting the waterproofness of the parkhall. This working detail can also be used in other parts of the roof. The roof structure uses clampable rosettes with thread, attached on standards without spigot. Using this system, the slope of the roof can be adjusted in an uncomplicated way. The roof structure also contains the utility lines, with the electricity cables and a sprinkler system. In the design was opted to keep the wires and pipes visible, to match with the rudimentary system of the scaffolding. The accessible gallery in the top layer of the structure contains panels that can be opened by hand, situated at eye level. This intervention amplifies the flexible character of the structure and at the same time serves as ventilation. In order to accomplish a very diverse and variable layout of the ground level of the park hall, there has been chosen for several possibilities. There are the standard concrete tiles, used in the entire project, that offer a very usable and flexible finishing, as furniture etcetera can be freely attached. Second, there is the natural finishing, build up as a green roof. That way, the voluminous amount of flora has a sufficient base for a proper grow. At certain places, metal grating can be attached to the scaffolds, in order to make the green more passable, without losing its specific character.
