When brothers Daniel and Alexander Macmillan founded their publishing company in 1843, they created a place that would recognise and value great contemporary writing. They soon made their mark on the literary world, publishing a range of works by extraordinary authors: Lewis Carroll, Alfred Lord Tennyson, Thomas Hardy and Rudyard Kipling to name but a few.

A love of learning, reading and innovation has always been our mission since the very beginning.

“I thought it worthwhile to plant a seed. If a large tree grows from this small seed, we shall be grateful. Daniel Macmillan, 1843

Pre A1 A1+

DONNA SHAW, MARK ORMEROD, MÓNICA GRAVIER, SILVIA CAROLINA TIBERIO

Digital Pupil’s Book for teachers and pupils available at digital.macmillan.com.ar

Hop into English is a 6-level series for primary level that accompanies pupils through the different stages of their learning process. The series grows together with children, both in its look and in the type of activities each level proposes. In Hop into English, recurring characters provide contextualized situations for the presentation of the target language, which is then constantly recycled in different scenarios. In the first 4 levels, the songs have been designed as a presentation tool to introduce the target language in an entertaining way as well as to provide enough repetition of the structures for pupils’ internalization.

• The Pupil’s Book with integrated Activity Book provides enough practice to consolidate the new language. • Stories with loveable characters and varied text-types help children develop a taste for reading and make their learning more pleasurable and fun. • The approach to the learning of language structures moves on from meaningful exposure to activities that help pupils understand how these structures work, making them more aware of the language features. • Activities throughout the series boost the development of life skills such as creativity, problem solving, critical thinking, autonomous learning, responsibility, collaboration, cultural awareness and respecting diversity. • Writing is introduced gradually as from Level 1 through guided short pieces that prepare pupils for freer productions in the last two levels. My English Trip is a 7-level primary course with enough flexibility to be used with children starting to learn the language at 6 years old or 8–9 years old. With My English Trip children will discover the world of English and, at the same time, develop their social skills and an awareness of the world around them. While the first levels take an oral approach to gently introduce children to the world of English, the upper levels take a self-discovery approach so that pupils can internalize the structures being taught. The books include several activities that promote the development of children’s thinking and emotional skills, and games and projects that encourage pupils to work collaboratively.

• The series is aligned with official curricular objectives. • Children will learn by constantly recycling and integrating the core language. • The Pupil’s Book has an integrated Activity Book (My Practice Trip). It also includes fun games with cut-outs to recycle and integrate the language taught (Levels Starter–4) and stickers (Levels A & B). • It brings a do-it-yourself Trip figure (Levels A & B) to use in fun classroom activities and a free Reader (Levels Starter–4). • The Teacher’s Resource Centre includes: teaching notes, tests, class audio, songs, flashcards, social skills worksheets and phonics animations (Levels 1–4), Build your own story tool and Picture Dictionary. Authored by Carol Read and Mark Ormerod, experts in teaching English to young learners, Tiger Time creates a positive learning environment and encourages children to work together as they discover new language, cultures and values. Exciting narratives and memorable characters, like Tiger and the members of the Tiger Tracks Social Learning Network, create interest and keep children engaged.

• Children will learn through different genres of stories and reading texts as well as engaging roleplays, songs and games, developing language skills in a well-balanced and integrated way. • Learning to Learn and Thinking Skills activities enable students to reflect and become better independent learners, as well as develop transferable skills for other areas of the curriculum. • Learners develop and reinforce grammar through the integrated Grrr is for Grammar sections, while songs and craft activities enable memorable in-context learning. • The extensive CLIL syllabus prepares students for cross-curriculum academic success in addition to building awareness about the world around them. • The home-school link, consisting of the Student’s Practice Kit, Progress Journal and Letters to Parents, takes learning beyond the classroom and encourages parents to participate in their child’s English education.
