BEST BUDDIES Sandie Mourão and Fran Combs Gamboa Best Buddies follows the theories that children learn through play and being actively involved in what they do. This three-level preschool course introduces the child to American English through the engaging worlds of Buddy Bear (as a soft toy and a real being), bringing games and fun activities into the English class to provide a believable context for the real use of English. With its integrated content, multi-sensory approach and attention to early child developmental issues, Best Buddies offers a sound basis for any young student’s first English-learning experience.

Your best buddy in the English classroom!

For Students Student’s Book Consists of nine topic-based units (each with seven lessons) featuring the two worlds of Buddy: his life as a toy in a human family, and his own world where he lives with his family and friends. Each unit contains: • an Energizer jingle to get children singing and moving at the beginning of class; • a song to help present the unit theme, which can be used for consolidation at the beginning of the following class; • a four-part Buddy Story, starring Buddy Bear and his friends or family, accompanied by the audio on the CD; • a Sit Down jingle to get children back to their places after role-play activities; • a chant, to help children with word and sentence stress and rhythm in English; • a dialog, where Ben and Becky (the twins who are Buddy’s owners) interact: the children can role-play these conversations to practice natural spoken English; • Mini-Books for each Buddy Story, for the children to re-tell the story with their family; • Activity Cut-Outs for the children to consolidate the main language focus of the unit through craftwork and drama. A wallet is provided inside the back cover so the cut-outs can be safely kept and re-used in class.

For Teachers Teacher’s Edition

Class Audio CD

Provides reduced Student’s Book and Buddy Book pages for easy reference, with plentiful notes covering methodology, story-telling and child developmental considerations (listed at the beginning of every lesson), as well as tips for using the Buddy Puppet.

Contains all the music from each level (including the lesson transition jingles, chants and songs), the dialogs and the Buddy stories. The recommended procedure is that the teacher tells the story in lesson 3 using the Story Cards, then uses the CD to re-tell the story in lesson 4.

Also includes a step-by-step guide for each lesson, with teacher script and predictable formats to keep young learners at ease in the language classroom. Visual cues for when to use the Action Cards help teachers with transition phases in class, while prompts show when to prepare the Print and Play Pictures (from the Teacher’s Support CD-ROM).

This multimedia CD-ROM contains a variety of printable resources for the teacher, including: • 312 black-and-white Print and Play Pictures, showing all the target vocabulary in Best Buddies. They can be colored and laminated for presenting vocabulary, or printed for the children to color in or play games; • 12 black-and-white Action Cards (4 per level), showing Buddy doing a classroom action, for example listening. The teacher can print, color, and laminate them, then use them in class to indicate when the children should change activity. Icons in the Teacher’s Edition show when to use the cards, making it easier for the teacher to manage the transition phases in each lesson; • Evaluation Sheets for monitoring children’s progress. There is one per unit and one for the end of each level, as well as a grid for keeping class records; • Song Sheets with lyrics for all the jingles, chants and songs; • A Bingo Grid, for the teacher to print and copy for classroom use; • A black-and-white Teacher’s Edition in Spanish, with all the content of the English teacher’s book (without the reduced pages).

Macmillan Early Learners Photo Cards 210 Photo Cards showing the target vocabulary in Best Buddies.

Contains 36 letter-sized Story Cards per level (4 per story), which the teacher can use to tell and consolidate the stories. There are also six Family Cards, presented like family photos, to help children remember the main characters: Buddy Bear, his friends, Ben and Becky, their sister Bella, their mom and dad, and their grandma and grandpa. The Buddy Box also includes the Buddy Puppet. He will be the children’s friend and can be used to greet the class, present language, and as a reward – a different child can hold Buddy at the end of each class.

Hats on Caroline Linse and Elly Schottman Hats On knows that children come to the English classroom with a great deal of world knowledge. This course will build, expand on and develop this knowledge. Hats On promotes the learning of English through all content areas. While exploring each unit theme and developing English language skills, children simultaneously develop science, math, social studies, art, and physical development skills. Early literacy also plays a key role in every unit, with a carefully planned program of literacy and language skills development across all three levels. Learning English through different content areas accommodates many different learning styles and ensures children become confident in all the key developmental areas.

Hats On and ready to explore!

For Students Student Book Contains nine thematic units, plus a final cumulative review unit focused around an end-of-level play. Each lesson integrates ageappropriate content learning with English language and literacy. Hats On focuses on concept and real world exploration, with a real world experiment in each unit. There is also a Reading Page (with fact and fiction texts) in every unit. The Student Book comes packaged with a Sticker Pack, used to present target vocabulary from the unit; and a free Take-Home CD, featuring all the songs and chants from the Student Book. Homeschool support can be found in the Photocopiable Pack - see the Print and Play Picture Resource CD below, which includes CD Activity Sheets and lyrics.

Adriana del Paso, Idolina Camargo, Giselle Lobo and Myriam Monterrubio Squeeze is an exciting three-level preschool course in American English. This innovative series utilizes preschoolers’ brain plasticity, ensuring they use all five senses and, therefore, all areas of the brain as they learn. Squeeze actively trains the brain and creates the conditions for effective language acquisition.

Student’s Book

Packaged with the Student’s CD and Look Back Stickers, the Student’s Book presents and practices language through stunning 3D modeling clay artwork complemented by beautiful illustrations. In and Out of Context vocabulary presentations and Five Senses activities accommodate multiple learning styles, while Skills Development lessons focus on developing language skills, motor skills, and visual, auditory and critical thinking skills. Sounds lessons provide controlled practice of English phonemes through chants, to encourage authentic English pronunciation. An Interactive Contents page and Look Back Stickers promote children’s active involvement in the learning process.

For Teachers Teacher’s Edition Guides teachers through the series step by step, with clearly identified learning objectives at the outset of every activity. Unit Overviews give teachers a summary of the month ahead, while photocopiable Skills Charts show teachers and parents exactly which skills their students practice in each activity. Photocopiable Lesson Plans and Black Line Masters ensure teachers are equipped with everything they need for the school year. [Available in Spanish or English]

Macmillan Early Learners Flashcards 210 alphabetically indexed, singlesided flashcards complement the artwork in Squeeze’s vocabulary presentation lessons, and develop children’s visual discrimination skills.

Fun Book Allows children to create a portfolio and demonstrate what they have learnt through Free Expression lessons. A variety of artwork styles develop children’s visual discrimination skills, while Values lessons encourage children to consider their role as part of a wider community, by focusing on the notions of ‘right and wrong’ and ‘cause and effect’. Senses lessons emphasize learning through one or more of the five senses to activate all areas of the brain.

Student’s CD Contains all the songs and chants. [Packaged with the Student’s Book]

Its unique place-by-place unit structure takes children on an adventure, discovering their immediate world and beyond in order to help make language learning more significant and special. Extensive personalization, high-interest readings, crosscultural awareness, and values with follow-up discussion points all come together to ensure your children’s language learning is truly motivating and memorable.

For Students Student’s Book Each unit begins with a unique Unit Opener, acting as a visual warmer to the country, language, and topics covered in the unit. Unit Openers offer extra flexibility in the program, allowing teachers to use them in part or in whole depending on their needs. Every Student’s Book unit contains eight fun-filled lessons including activities such as songs, chants, games, fiction story reading and practical craft tasks; a cross-cultural, non-fiction reading lesson and a follow-up lesson based on personalization; and an easy-to-do Stop and Check lesson, which reviews grammar and/or vocabulary from the unit. Reading and pronunciation are supported through an integrated phonics syllabus in every lesson 3.

Workbook Provides extra written, more independent practice of the vocabulary and grammar presented in the Student’s Book. In addition, it includes a spelling feature, projects and activities based around values, and fun games that extend the Stop and Check lesson of the Student’s Book. Each Workbook also provides children with a vocabulary word bank in the form of a pull-out Dictionary.

Student’s CD-ROM Contains interactive homework activities as well as the songs from the Student’s Book that can be played on any CD player. Children can take their Student’s CD-ROM home, to do their homework, or listen and sing along to their songs again. [Packaged with the Student’s Book]

LOG IN Angela Llanas and Libby Willams A1 A2 KET Log in is a four-level course for students aged 12 to 15. It has been specially designed for teenage students of English with 2-4 contact hours a week. It offers two starting levels, making it ideal for true and false beginners.

For Students Student’s Book Contains 32 self-standing lessons divided into eight modules, covering a variety of topics and including exercises and integrated skills work. It offers a song or chant every two modules to introduce and reinforce structures (in levels Starter & 1). Also in these levels, an amusing story in four episodes integrates vocabulary and language structures, and further develops reading and listening skills, while providing a starting point for the analysis of literary texts.

C ATALOG UE 2 00 9 - 20 1 0

Fact Files (in levels 2 & 3) integrate language structures and vocabulary in non-fiction texts that offer opportunities to develop reading and writing skills. In level 3, Literature Lessons contain a variety of fictional texts to prompt meaningful reading and writing tasks. Language Download is a language

reference section offering extra practice, making it suitable for both self-study and classroom use. Special features in Log In allow students to focus on different aspects of the language: the Inbox reminds students of language needed for production, while Instant Language presents a self-discovery approach to language structures. The Spelling Folder makes students aware of some of the regularities of spelling in English, with a Pronunciation Blog focusing on English sounds and intonation, and a Texting feature to develop students’ writing and communicative skills. There is also an integrated Workbook.

Young Adults Test Software The Attitude Test Software allows the teacher to select items to produce printable progress tests for any unit of Attitude (levels 1-5).

Class Audio CD Two CDs per level contain all the listening material, including cover versions of the commercially available songs referred to in the texts.

Making tests is easy:

• First select the level and unit of Attitude you wish to prepare a test for, using the Links to the left of the screen; • Then choose how many questions of each question type you want to include in the test; • Then simply click on Generate Test to produce the test. Each generated test will have a different selection of items from the item database. The tests can be generated one by one, or the teacher can generate several different tests at once. Once a test has been generated, the teacher can view it with or without answers, and/or generate an alternate test with the same items in a different order. The tests can be printed out, or saved as text files for later editing if required. The Attitude Test Software is available on CD-ROM or online. C ATALOG U E 2 0 0 9 -2 0 1 0

When an English language learner looks up a word in the dictionary, it is not enough for them to find its translation and grammatical information. It’s absolutely essential that they understand the linguistic and social context in which the word is used. The dictionary gives students information on how, when and where to use the defined words, and warns them of typical native-Spanish speaker mistakes. The Macmillan Diccionario is an essential tool for English language learners who are native Spanish speakers.

¡Corre la voz! Spread the word! The CD-ROM contains the complete dictionary in electronic format, with additional search features, illustrations, animations, sound effects, and American and British English pronunciations, including a pronunciation practice facility.

Key features: • Over 70,000 headwords, expressions and examples • Includes 3000 red words – the most frequent and important words used in everyday English • Focuses specifically on the Spanish-speaking student learning English: a) the English-Spanish section focuses on helping students to decode language they’re exposed to when reading or listening b) the Spanish-English section focuses on the language the student will need to produce • Includes special explanations and information boxes on common errors frequently made by native Spanish speakers • Uses menus when a word has multiple meanings so the user can quickly identify the meaning they’re looking for and can go directly to that definition • Highlights the main translation in red when a word has several translations, for easy identification • Includes 16 pages of full-color illustrations • Includes 25 pages of practical information (Sección de consulta) for Spanish speakers studying English, from a phrase book section to ‘preparing your resume’

Sam McCarter and Phil Jakes

Uncovering EAP explains the processes involved in teaching academic writing and reading to students going on to further study in an English-speaking environment, through concise theoretical overviews, complemented by an extensive range of practical activities and worksheets which teachers can use in their classrooms. Case studies give examples of real-life challenges faced by EAP teachers, with suggestions on how to tackle these situations.

This text highlights and explores selected areas of grammar and vocabulary with exercises and commentaries.

Christine Nuttall examines the skills required to read effectively and suggests classroom strategies for developing reading skills and testing reading.

This book challenges the traditional view of grammar as a thing to be learned, suggesting that it is more like a process that emerges. It shows how to create the right conditions for students to uncover grammar.

500 Activities for the Primary Classroom This book is the answer to that perennial question of “What can I do with my class tomorrow?” Aimed at teachers of children from 3-12 years this is a lively, varied compendium of ideas and classroom activities.

700 Classroom Activities

David Seymour and Maria Popova This easy-to-use reference book provides 700 classroom-tested activities that can be used with students of all levels. The activities are organized into four clear sections: conversations, functions, grammar and vocabulary.
