Levels The Macmillan Factual Readers are a six-level series (1+ to 6+). Each Reader is carefully graded to ensure that language structures are gradually introduced and that the more complex language demands of the CLIL content are embedded in language that is easily accessible. The plus (+) sign indicates that, due to the focus on specialised vocabulary and concepts in the Macmillan Factual Readers, the language demands are more challenging than standard Readers of the same level.

Macmillan English Explorers Written specifically for young learners of English, this eight-level scheme has been informed by teaching methodology for first language speakers of English. The 48 Readers plus supplementary materials can be used alongside any primary course. Each Reader is illustrated in full colour and contains one complete story. Key features ✸ The rich variety of texts, from original fiction to legends, means any child can enjoy

reading, wherever their interests lie

✸ Comprehension Workbooks develop a range of reading skills while Phonics Workbooks

support the systematic teaching of phonics

✸ ‘Comprehension Extra’ activities in the Teacher’s Notes deal with characterisation, style and plot ✸ Word-recognition skills are reinforced by the Workbooks and wordcards in the Teacher’s Notes ✸ The Teacher’s Notes support whole-class teaching with page-by-page lesson notes ✸ Cross-curricular content at higher levels means children can make links to other school subjects ✸ The stories promote social values such as friendship and respect.

Levels The Macmillan English Explorers are an eight-level series, supported by a four-level Phonics scheme, suitable for children aged between 4 and 12. The stories have been written using high-frequency words, plus story-specific words which as far as possible are clarified by illustrations.

Macmillan Explorers Phonics Teaching phonics is recognised as an essential part of the teaching of reading and writing. The Macmillan Explorers Phonics complement the first four levels of the Macmillan English Explorers in a way that will teach children how to sound out words, blend sounds to read words and segment the sounds in the words in order to spell them accurately. These Readers can also be used as a stand-alone phonics reading scheme. Key features ✸ The phonics focus is set within the context of a story to ensure that reading for meaning is retained ✸ Popular and familiar characters from the Macmillan English Explorers series reappear and new contexts and characters are also introduced ✸ Detailed Teacher’s Notes show how to focus on letters and sounds to support pronunciation, reading and spelling

Support materials Audio tracks and worksheets for both Macmillan English Explorers and Macmillan Explorers Phonics are available to download from www.macmillanyounglearners.com/readers, as well as teacher’s notes and resources. Big Books are available for some titles at the early levels.
