Bursa, the first capital of the Ottoman Empire with a history dating back to centuries at the heart of the silk and spice trade, becomes Turkey’s fourth largest city. The city which has been the capital of many civilizations for centuries is the hub of many monuments and historical works nowadays. The city’s skyline is comprised of historical landmarks varying from mosques, madrasas and baths.

Bursa is the home of outstanding natural beauty, which is complemented by its vast historical background. Bursa has a lot to brag about particularly as this province was the first Ottoman capital, and as such is endowed with an array of monuments, mosques, tombs, baths, etc. Preferred by Arab tourists, Inkaya is a village just a few miles away from Bursa on the way to Uludag . It is one of the oldest villages of Bursa founded by Ottomans. There is a giant plane tree in the village with almost 10-metre circumference trunk which make this place a touristic attraction. There are restaurants, gift shops, cafes around the tree and it is a popular place among local people as well. On sunny summer days, it is nice to go up to the Inkaya tree and have a cup of tea or eat grilled meat under the tree. According to Erhan Doğan, Tourist Guide, real estate in Bursa is one of the first choice for Arab tourist and investors. Apart from being an industrial city, Bursa has a rich culture and tourism capacity that attract Arabs. Many Arab businessmen are planning to make investments in housing and shopping mall projects. Almost thirty percent of tourists going on holiday at the Uludağ ski resort are Arabs. Bursa has been a profitable place for Arab investors for many years. Arab and Middle Eastern tourism has gained momentum. Both city and mountain hotels show full occupancy. Arab tourists could be seen at nearly all hotels. Arabs used to prefer to visit Uludağ and Bursa in summer months.

is a refuge for mountain birds, such as lammergeier and other vultures, golden eagle and more than 20 otherraptor species. Other high-altitude species include alpine accentor, rock thrushes and choughs. The area is also good for eastern specialities such as isabelline wheatear, and, at almost the most westerly points of their range, red-fronted serin and Krüper’s nuthatch. The dense fir forest holds short-toed treecreeper, common crossbill and Tengmalm’s owl, a rare and very local bird in Turkey, as well as the white-backed woodpecker. The rare and local butterfly, Parnassius apollo graslini, is found on Uludag and the area has much of interest to botanists, with colourful pink primroses (Primula vulgaris var. sibthorpii), leopard’s bane (Doronicum orientale), crocuses: the purple Crocus siberi and yellow Crocus flavus, and grape hyacinths (Muscari racemosum).

Quality pears from Yenişehir around the world

Apart from world renowned pepper of the region, the pears grown in Yenişehir are exported to around the World. Ayhan Yoğurt, one of the pear exporters of the region pointed out, ” Being able to produce mostly demanded varieties such as Santa Maria, we export pears to Germany, Russia, France, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Iran. We are very satisfied with the quality and the ever growing demand for our pears.” “All of our products are grown in Yenişehir and exported according to to export standards. We care for quality standards and non-pesticide residue in our products,” he further added. Pears can be divided into two simple categories: European and Asian. The former is what we typically think of: a smooth-skinned fruit with

gentle bumps and curves in that typical bottom-heavy shape. Asian pears are uniform in color (yellowish-tan) and shaped more like apples, with a completely different texture and taste. Asian pears do not change color after being harvested, whereas some European ones do. For nutritional reasons, we’re often advised to consume the skins of fruits. However, it’s less often that research provides strong evidence in support of this advice. Recent studies have shown that the skin of pears contains at least three to four times as many phenolic phytonutrients as the flesh. These phytonutrients include antioxidant, anti-inflammatory flavonoids, and potentially anti-cancer phytonutrients like cinnamic acids. The skin of the pear has also been shown to contain about half of the pear’s total dietary fiber.

The rivers also meet the water needs of Mustafakemalpaşa and the 15 villages within the district. The river, which is about 30 meters – stretching to 50 meters in winter with flooding – offers people the natural beauty of beech, oak and larch forests. Mustafakemalpaşa district is 84 kilometers away from the provincial center of Bursa, while the waterfall is close to the area’s Muradiyesarnıç village. It was formed with the collapse of a fault line and also features a small lake that appears in winter. Suuçtu is a popular resort area to visit during the weekends, especially for those from Istanbul and Balıkesir. The area is known as an oxygen depot among the beech trees. Besides being a natural air-conditioning unit, the Suuçtu Waterfall also has natural walking routes and a trout production center. It is a fascinating resort area to visit especially for those from Istanbul and Balikesir, actually called as Suuctu and connected to a road for 13 km to Tumbuldek thermal waters.

It is one of the oldest villages of Bursa founded by Ottomans. There is a giant plane tree in the village with almost 10-metre circumference trunk which make this place a touristic attraction. There are restaurants, gift shops, cafes around the tree and it is a popular place among local people as well. “Smile you are in Nilüfer”

Nilüfer signifys historical background of Bursa Operating under the motto of “Smile you are in Nilüfer”, Nilüfer Municipality of Bursa puts emphasis on restoration works on the historic riches of Bursa such as Gölyazı, Tahtalı and Misi.

Mustafa Bozbey, Mayor of Nilüfer Municipality Nilüfer Municipality conveys the historic heritage of the region to the future generations. We have recently interviewed Mustafa Bozbey, Mayor of Nilüfer Municipality. We have also taken a selfie with him. The interview follows: As known, Nilüfer signifys the historical background of Bursa. What particular aspects do you want to emphasize as far as the historical significance of Nilüfer is concerned? Nilüfer is a significant district of Bursa. Besides, Nilüfer hosts variety of ancient civilizations. İznik is said to be the ancient district of the region. However, Nilüfer is historically older settlement area than İznik. Nilüfer is the oldest historic region of Bursa. From Nilüfer stream to Golyazı, the historic richess of the region is unbelivable. To cite an example, Misi has 2000 years of historic heritage, Golyazı dates back to 2300 years ago. So, Nilüfer is older than today’s central Bursa. From this standpoint, Aktoprak region of Nilüfer assumes significance more than ever. As for the region, we can mention about the history of 8500 years. There are some historic remains, such as mussle shells, to reflect that Marmara Sea reached this region in ancient times. Whenever asked on the oldest history of Bursa, Nilüfer comes to mind. What do you want to add for the history of Nilüfer? Misi has a history before the rule of the Ottoman Empire. Ottomans came to Bursa in 1316, they constructed caravansaries here. Bursa was conquered in 1326. Before the Ottoman Empire, there was a living people here, almost 1300 years ago. Nilüfer district hosting the first settlement in Bursa Region as per some researchers, bears the traces of both Byzantine and Ottoman and the older periods in history. In Nilüfer; Tepecik Tumulus, Gölyazı and Tahtalı villages in Alaaddinbey Neighborhood and Aktopraklık Tumulus and Gölyazı islands region in Akçalar district are rich in historical findings. There are ruins of churches, mosques, baths, fountains, monasteries and castles in these regions together with

is in majority during the Ottoman period, Tahtalı is among the foundation villages of Çelebi Mehmet. The settlement of Tahtalı Village where a constant dwelling exist from the 2nd Century BC till today, is partially within the ancient city walls. The Byzantine period walls are partially extant. The castle ruins and the length of the walls demonstrate that the ancient city was established on a quite wide area. According to the common rumours within Tahtalı which was settled on the hills of Uludağ and within the surrounding villages, the tunnel with an arched entrance within the castle body but now filled with soil, runs along the Kite (Ürünlü) Castle on the north.

historical remains and monument trees. There are many historical structures scattered in different parts of Nilüfer. Mosques, bridges and baths from Ottomans region and church ruins remained from various times. Some of them are: H. Ioannes Theologos Church in Çatalağıl village, Saint Helena Church in Özlüce Neighborhood, Demirci Mosque, Yaylacık Mosque, Mihraplı Bridge. Also Misi village and Gölyazı district are the richest ancient settlement areas in Nilüfer. The history of the district goes back to 6th century. The Municipality of Nilüfer which is a member of the Union of Historical Towns since 2005, is carrying out many projects fort he purpose of conserve and maintain the historical and cultural heritage of the region. Nilüfer hosts a remarkable historic and cultural heritage. Could you mention about the activities of the Municipality in order to upgrade the cultural tourism of Nilüfer? It’s presumed that the oldest and the most important settlement before the establishment of Bursa, was around Tahtalı whereas the ruins of a castle and church verifies this claim. Is physical examination sufficient to diagnose the disease? Are extra radiological studies, such as plain radiograph, MRI and ultrasound, required? Although physical examination is utmost important, foot radiographs are scanned and grade is determined; type of operation is accordingly decided. Determining type of operation is very important in order to avoid recurrence of deformity. Is management of hallux valgus surgical? Is there any non-surgical option?
