About us The history of GTEC Rugby dates back to 1873 as a foundation member of the Auckland Rugby Football Union (1883) and has been engineering lifelong friendships ever since. There are generations of Auckland representation and over 40 All Blacks who have proudly worn our colours including some of the greats; Sir Wilson Whineary, Kel Tremain, the Whetton brothers Gary and Alan, and most recently George Moala and Ofa Tu’ungafasi. While we are proud of our historic roots we are not anchored to them. We are constantly looking to progress our offering to align with the changing needs of our membership. Today we boast being the most progressive Rugby Club in the country! In 2017 we’ll have 10 teams playing in senior ARU competitions Premiers, Premier Development, u20, u20 (restricted grade), First grade, u85kg restricted grade & Presidents.

What do we offer? Player development is the cornerstone of GTEC Rugby philosophy and fostering positive coaching environments is the foundation upon which this development takes place. We believe that Rugby has a much broader role to play than just teaching the traditional technical and tactical requirements, we believe these areas are inextricably linked to social and personal development. Aligned with club values we encourage our players to be aware of their commitment to become respectful, resilient and selfreliant rugby players who will become positive contributors to the community.

We offer environments based on best practice and continuous improvement. It is the key to our success. These environments are supported by framework of: Medical Support: Each team is provided with a person adept in first aid, strapping and prehab/rehab. Head of our medical staff, Simon Noton oversees a reporting system which ensures players are reentered back into playing status only after the rehab protocols have been satisfied Educational Support: GTEC players who are studying at any bonafide tertiary institution including apprenticeships are given an opportunity to apply to its scholarship program. Fun social environment: GTEC provides an annual calendar of social opportunities to increase networks and include integration into GTEC is rapid and longlasting. This includes Thursday night meals after training. Our Values: Provide consistency in our decision making and alignment of our resources to ensure a successful and sustainable future.

Governance GTEC is governed by a committed group of volunteers who bring their diverse range of professional skills to ensure a thriving and sustainable future.

Strong Coaching Structure The development of our players and the success of our teams are dependent on the critical input of our coaches. Great demands are places on our volunteer coaching team each season and we recognise that they need to be supported and continually upskilled to meet the demands of our players. Our coaches are encouraged to extend their knowledge base gained externally through formal qualifications with informal modules facilitated by our network of internal coach educators:
