GOLDEN SUNRISE Publishers Note Today Mental illness has become more widespread than ever before ,yet many are still so afraid to seek help even though we now have so much knowledge and so many alternate treatments available to us . Unfortunately the stigma and shame of years ago are still very prevalent .Although people are starting to ask for help and share their stories there are still many who hide their struggles and are ashamed . In order to change this we need people to speak openly about mental illness, allowing others to realize that they are not alone –that there are many to help them around . Through sharing , we normalize the topic of mental illness ,we reduce their discomfort ,remove their fear and shame that prevents so many from seeking help . So this Year BE has taken new initiative with its Annual WOW Women's Awards 2017 where the women share their stories ,their challenges and their hurdles in their life journey and have become what they are today A STRONG EMPOWERED WOMAN . I am driven by passion and purpose to promote social change, diversity and women empowerment in their personal and professional endeavors .And this season I focus on MENTAL ILLNESS. I sincerely request to all of you my readers out there to be talking more openly about mental illness with your family friends ,neighbors –to speak out and share your stories so that we all can collectively make the difference to our society . On a much larger scale ,you may also publicly share your story with BE MAGAZINE . You may also wish to consider having a COUNSELLING CUBICAL in our ISHMA WELLNESS CENTER for Empathic listening or giving awareness talk at our center . Lets break this silence by speaking out and sharing . BE has taken its rst step towards this change …

ITS YOUR TURN NOW . Lets talk more Lets hear more . Until we meet next month again wish you all good health and happiness . GOLDEN SUNRISE Shobhaa Arya .

'LIFE SKILLS' - A CATALYST TO DISCOVER THE GENIUS “YOU”

MAY 2017

'Life Skills' - A catalyst to Discover the Genius You “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a sh by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” - Albert Einstein. Studies reveal that 76% of parents are focused on bringing up their children to be 'good people'. We all know that the world is changing fast. What we think we can take for granted at one moment has completely changed the next. None of us can predict with condence what any given aspect of life or work will look like in ve or ten years' time. Most people associate learning with a formal education but learning should, be a lifelong process that enhances a child's understanding of the world and improves his or her quality of life. Understanding of the world and improved quality of life require 'Life Skills'. These are abilities to enable us to deal effectively in day to day life. These skills are well-being oriented and we call them 'psychosocial competencies. They include organizing, scheduling, social etiquette, conversation handling, responsibility and i n d e p e n d e n c e , re s p e c t i n g differences and nancial literacy. Children these days face many pressures from external and as well as internal sources. With the concept of diminishing of joint families and existence of micro families' children have no one to go

to like grandparents, uncles and more so since in many cases both parents are working. There is a lot of pressure on students today, to perform at school and there is even more pressure within the peer group. They have a fear of failure or worrying about tting in the group. There are many issues within a family unit too for example now days with both parents working and unreasonably high family expectations being placed on the child and lack of time given to children. Due to busy schedules of the parents they don't spend quality time together. Television, internet and cell phones have contributed to this problem. Children get distracted easily. There is a change in their eating habits with easy availability of fast food. There is absence of the right role model and the world has become more competitive. These are the common challenges faced by every parent and parents are trying to cope with this but there is a gap or a vacuum. How can we possibly prepare them for the constant challenges that lie ahead? Do we want them to understand how to interact with others? Or How do we teach them to manage their time, money and belongings? Teaching 'Life skills' is becoming an important part of raising a child.

But a recent study has revealed that children are losing touch with vital life skills due to overuse of digital devices. Children need to be taught to cope with the world. Life skills help children know what to do in everyday situations as well as how to make good decisions and manage peer pressure. It helps children to communicate more effectively which in turn helps them in problem solving and resolving conicts. It enables them to become responsible, caring and productive citizens. Ultimately 'Life Skills' makes them be not just 'BookSmart', but also 'Street Smart'. Life skills cannot be taught directly. It is a learning with real life experiences and practices. Activities can be planned that will help children develop powers of observation and can also develop skills that allow them plan independently. Wherein children depict their interests, hobbies, school experiences and interpersonal skills. Computers and technologies have assumed to play an important role in our daily lives. But it should be used effectively. Children should be good listeners as well as they should learn to speak freely. Encourage positive attitude of children and ensure constructive interactions. Which will help nurturing their creative skills. Children can be prepared to enter the real world with critical 'Life Skills' of life.

GOODNESS JOURNEY

MAY 2017

Goodness Journey

S

alma Memon is a young dynamic girl. She is just 24 year old. She is the Founder and Initiator of Project UMEED – A Ray of Hope for Better Tomorrow and Director - Social Ambassador of the Indian Development Foundation (IDF). She is an active volunteer for a number of causes for the betterment of society right from my childhood. She is associated with 14 plus NGOs in Mumbai.

She was 10 years old when she started her journey of social work with NGOs through her school days, and the 14 years of service have surely brought smiles and relief for hundreds. Her Life circumstances itself has motivated her to work for the betterment of the society. She belonged to very poor family which made her realized things at very young age; “It was very difcult for our parents to educate us both. My brother is 7 years Elder than me, and had to quit his education after 10thgrade, so that I could study. He drives an auto rickshaw now.” says Salma. Salma's realization that

education was out of reach for thousands of children, including herself was on a rainy day in Mumbai, many years ago. The rains were pouring down heavily one night. In a dim-lit house in the slums, water was pouring from every corner, but Salma's shivering hands were busy cutting the threads of shirts to earn 50 paisa for a night. It was all she and her brother could do to support their education. Salma lost her father on the day of her brother's wedding, which came as a huge shock to them. “It was very difcult to survive after losing my f a t h e r ” , says Salma. She completed her graduation in B.A English Literature and Psychology in 2014 from Bhavan's College in Andheri, Mumbai and secured a diploma in NGO management from Nirmala Niketan. “I had to work part time along with college and my social activities to support my education and family. We had no sponsors back then to support our cause so my friend and I used to count every rupee to save” says Salma. She now works as a teacher in Sunower Secondary School, Jogeshwari which is a Privateaided school. “I can easily get job in an international school that will pay me better, but 02

working here validates my cause”, says Salma. Every step right from childhood was very challenging till my college days. By God Grace Things are now ne and now Salma is an initiator and founded her own brain child 2 years ago which works for underprivileged and orphan children to help in education, health and empowering women. Project UMEED aims to delete the word Underprivileged from the society and make the bright future of India by spreading smile and happiness across. Educational Fees: Because in my life my experience says NGO's support for Educational fees but they have Rules & criteria with higher number of percentage and so on. So what about those who stay in Slums and no one available to guide them. So Project UMEED an initiative of IDF is to support such children, give them extra coaching. Because Education is the Best Gift which can make their life worth leaving. Year 2016-2017 we have successfully supported 312 Children for Educational Fees,Educational kits and Extra Coaching. We also Run a special centre where we teach people English Speaking, Computer trainings and much more and support them with a placement at Good Place.

JOURNEY OF SALMA MEMON

What happens with people is they lack in Communication, Computer skills and because of which they are not able to get good job.So to make them strong and stand on their own leg we support for the trainings and make sure for the good placement. Project UMEED has managed to organize over a hundred of events and rallies for awareness on issues like breast cancer. They never skip a chance to spread a smile. We celebrate each and ever y festive to imbibed the culture in children and also organized various education workshops for children and underprivileged families. Salma's accolades include the Mother Teresa Award, Best Social Activist, Best Social Ambassador, Pride of the Nation, Best social Action Award, Best Leader, Best Social Media Co-ordinator, India excellence Award, I volunteer

Award, Top 100 Youth Leader of India, Best Social Volunteer work, Youth Icon Award, Young Social Hero Award , Top 5 Social Impactful Innovator across the world and many more. But the real reward, she says, lies in the satisfaction that they have made such a huge difference in so many lives. I believe in creating Leaders not followers so that a leader c a n l e a r n g e t i n s p i re , motivated and replicate the same at other places. Alone Salma or alone Social Activist can't reach everywhere. Message for the Generation: The youth of today's generation has power , strength and good understanding to see the suffering , pains in real sense and help the needy in better way. Volunteering helps us to grow, develop groom oneself, self-realization, understanding of good and bad things and real meaning of life. Volunteering is not only important but also

MAY 2017

essential to ll the gap that is been created between the poor and rich. Of course every drop counts when youngster like us contribute towards the welfare of the society. It not only helps for bringing the change that we want to see in the society but also it inspires others to follow the footsteps and become a leader to take initiatives. It's not about the change its about taking a stand for what you feel is right. Youth contribution is good and progressing every passing year as awareness has been created right from school days to corporates. It also depends on individual, mental strength and passion towards volunteering. I will only say one can't reach everywhere come join hands together and take a pledge to spread the goodness and happiness around unconditionally says Salma Memon.

MANAGEMENT TEACHING

MAY 2017

MANAGEMENT TEACHING - CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION CANVAS FOR LOCAL INTERVENTIONS IN ANDRAGOGY .

A

must needed tool kit of forever refreshing Andragogy for management courses today. Introduction: The candid confessions with my corporate colleagues, the brainstorming with my alumni and my burning desire of passion to only give quality helped me to chart down and prepare me always for the ne tuning of the Andragogy to be delivered through a rigour of creativity and innovation interventions. This is the burning question which needs to be addressed through a Kaleidoscope which integrates knowledge – functional and academic, skill a n d c o u r a g e t o t a ke t h e decisions by being responsible and accountable with a ery use of values and ethics to build the character and revolve around the ever haunted question of getting employed. These young aspirants who seek the admission to the management courses need unique value propositions in everything that they learn and unlearn during their m a n a g e m e n t r i g o u r . The presentation and delivery of the management courses needs a s i g n a t u r e m a ke o v e r w i t h unique concoction of hands on for these young and curious management aspirants of today and tomorrow. What thought then occurred to

me as an expert and a facilitator is to make the Andragogy for these young learners more understood as “need friendly”. The need friendly dimension includes delivery of functional and academic knowledge connected to resolve local management issues sur rounding the business environment irrespective of the sector and business which then gets displayed and delivered during the campus to corporate transactions. The whole journey for me began by a ver y common rationale of visualising myself as a student sitting in the classroom for a 90 minutes class for on an average 4 subjects to be listened to, through different experts and through different tools, what would hook me on or get me engaged at least for 50 minutes without any distraction was my rst hurdle to crossover as a facilitator. Phew! Difcult challenge, but not impossible... amidst the schools of thoughts and the never ending debates between theory and quantitative subjects of which being more scoring and not more scoring still continues even today. Interestingly looking at the forte that I come from curiosity and hands on experience or getting on eld to test and verify the different fundamentals or 04

theories in the real world of corporate always made me engineer my interventions to get the right tment for the delivery. The best chemistry or formulae which worked in my Andragogy is to look at local management problems in and a ro u n d i n t h e c o r p o r a t e market and revolve around it by discussing the fundamentals. Interestingly the subject of General management like principles of management and perspectives could be delivered to them by making them work in all the festivals across Mumbai city. This could be as simple and complex as managing faith of devotees who visit their deity lord Ganpati or bidding him good bye after his long stay with his bhaktas all across the city. It could cover the local management of the festivals which can cross boundaries to understand the famous human pyramid festival of ( D a h i Handi) to get the talent hiring, selection and job descriptions and specications right. The cricket match format could be well surveyed to understand the positioning and selling of it as a business opportunity and how the local sports could be given a boost by making the students understand the p ro b l e m s a s s o c i a t e d a n d decisions to be taken.

MANAGEMENT TEACHING

The entry till exit of HRM functions could be learned and deciphered to get the perspective right. The congregation of people during N AV R AT R I is yet another festival which could have great management lessons. This could be dealt in different assignments and projects with hands on. The micro detailing of the aspect could produce some mind boggling Q & A in the class. The surveys during these festivals could give solutions to never ending debates and ever pending decisions.

personality, attitude related to work satisfaction, commitment etc. The mobile town helps one to manage everything from basic needs of Maslow and completes with the circle of self actualisation that is oneness with god. A surprise job shadowing with the Dabbawallas would actually make the management graduates understand the importance and war of racing a race with time. A quick survey during the local elections gives a whole new dimension for looking at the grey shades of how the industry functions.

The real market to test and verify the theories is outside the classroom. Another effective use of intervention could be exercised and practise through “WARI” which is an annual pilgrimage (yatra) to Pandharpur - the seat of the Hindu god Vithoba in the Indian state of Maharashtra, in honour of the deity. The beauty of operations and logistics ts the entire pilgrimage. It's a moment where you see the entire mobile another aspect of managing one 'self and others could also be related for organizational behaviour which covers the nuances of

This also gives the much needed avour to understand the effective use of good corporate g o v e r n a n c e a n d administration through different management subjects right from principles of management, perspectives of management, organisational behaviour and human resources management. The effective usage of scramble and chess could facilitate in understanding business strategies. The ancient learning of R amayan, Mahabharta, Chankya, Dasbodh and Manache Sholk could look into

MAY 2017

aspects of emotional quotient, emotional intelligence and spiritual quotient. The focus on ethics integrity character value building and nation building could be tilled through this. The cases from or on eld exercises with armed forces could also look into tying up the master minds of these young graduates for a spirit of team building and collaboration rather than competing and outperforming each other to create a silicon valley in Mumbai. The management courses could be also imbued through soulful cooking and yoga along with a Tabata, a Zumba (latest fad), and tness exercise to unwind and take a so called social GYAN BREAK. The management courses should create a purposeful and holistic development of the management graduates to not only sustain and feel the heat of corporate world but to live a life which would create a better tomorrow lled with green canvas to explore the miracles of nature with an introspection towards mind and body healing for a co-operative and collaborative world of opportunities.

Shivangi Maletia in 2017. GRATITUDE: Strong will power, family support and adopting gratitude as an attitude has denitely helped to heal the wounds caused by battered relationships and challenges. Whatever comes my way I take it up as an opportunity & make the best possible use of it. My inlaws at one point of time had left us in a lurch with not a penny left in our pockets and a small four year old daughter. Today I am in a position to teach others (in some cases I am offering coaching at concessional rates and even free of cost for EWS category students for societal edication), nance my own and my daughter's education and have learnt to face the world again. Also God has been kind enough because even though he threw volley of challenges for me but at the same time, he rendered me with courage to bear the same. Thanks and credit to my parents, husband, brother and daughter for all the support that they have provided me through my thick and thin!!

NEHA BANERJEE

Neha Banerjee

I

am delighted to share the story of my life with you for "WOW" - Women's Excellence Awards. "I started getting trained in Kathak at a very tender age of 3. Without even knowing, the love for Kathak turned into passion and from passion to my life. I was fortunate enough to get trained by legendary exponents of Kathak like Pt., Birju Maharaj Ji. In a very early age i started performing all over India and winning best of trophies in my name. At the age of 16 I was selected for a Close-Up TV Commercial . But as it is said - " time tests everyone", and so was my love for Kathak tested by God. I was hardly 16 years old and was preparing to leave for Mumbai for my advertisement shoot when i met with a life altering accident. In accident I broke my left leg completely, there was a major bone loss, tissue loss and muscle loss. i was told by Doctors that I will never be able to walk ever again, dance was out of question for every one - except for me. I was happy that I could see my leg and it was not amputated. I had a belief in myself and knew that no power on this earth can stop me from dancing. I went through

horrible pains & agonies only to strengthen my determination to dance. I could not move from bed for 1 full year, i was not even able to sit neither I was able to turn sideways while sleeping. For one year i used to lye in one position. i focused to try and sit in rst place, it took me six month and I succeeded to sit. that was my rst victory. Gradually with lots of efforts i started walking with the help of Polio braces. That was my second victory in another 6 months. Doctors were happy to see me walking with the help of braces which was last thing they expected me to do with all my efforts provided. But for me this was the beginning to start my ght against the conspiracy of nature to test my patience and love for Kathak. Everyday for 5 minutes, i started practicing "Tatkar" the footwork of Kathak with the polio braces on my leg. I continued this practice for another one year. I used to go and sit in my dance class for hours together to atleast feel the rhythm (Taal). Which used to motivate me all the more to get up and dance. My dance teacher was bewildered to see me doing footwork with the braces, she asked me to stop it as she was afraid that I 08

might break my leg again. But i was aware nothing can deter me from dancing again. I continued the process and Ryaz for more than 1 year with braces. And my rst performance in Nagpur was with the braces. This process continued for a while and I decided to test my ability further and started practicing without the braces. After 4 years of constant efforts and struggle, I not only started walking like normal people but i danced better than most dancers. It was not easy journey for me as when I started dancing again there were bunch of young girls who were more energetic. It was challenge for me to match their level of energy. I had to put my 200% to match their level. i am delighted and grateful to God for providing me with so much of energy, willpower and quality of determination that I have overcome ever ything and have been able to achieve s u c c e s s i n m y c a r e e r. The ordeal of accident did not stopped within those 4 - 5 years. It continued further by damaging my lever, health and I gained weight in coming years due to medicines and steroids. but I have "never say die attitude", I was determined to excel.

NEHA BANERJEE

For many years following my accident, i followed rigorous workout and diet regimes, which was not a cake walk with my health conditions. And both are part of my daily schedule till date, It has now become my lifestyle. My

efforts and attitude towards life resulted in winning me a Crown of "Fem Mrs India 2016". I performed in most prestigious dance festivals around the world, To name

10 AMAZING WAYS TO ATTRACT WEALTH INTO YOUR LIFE

MAY 2017

10 Amazing Ways to Attract Wealth Into Your Life

I

f your DREAMS are not vivid and inuential enough to build your wealth then these step are for YOU and if your dreams are vividly great then these steps

still can do miracles for you in creating amazing wealth. But always remember that your dreams must be detailed, clear and meticulous. Nothing can be manifested by the people who have hazy dreams. Your dreams are your life. Your dreams are achievable by your subconscious mind's power. Your dreams are your soul's motive. So, Be Clear-Be Sound-Be Particular

Below I Present 10 Remarkable Ways to Attract Wealth Into Your Life. 1. First Most Important Way to Attract Wealth is: “Bless that what you have now”. Always

bless what you have now because this way of blessing assures you that you have many good thing to be own OWNED and you are able to handle other good things too. This Blessing also increases your capability to attract more and have more. 2. Second Easy Way to Attract Wealth is: “Bless them who have things which you also want”. This way of blessing gives clear indication to DIVINE that you are happy about things you want. You are not jealous of the person who has the same thing you want. A happy and jealous free person can be blessed when ask Divine to bless MORE.“Ask The Universe To Deliver What You Want Now”. 3. Third Amazing Way to Attract Wealth is: “Bless what you want”. Right in present you are waiting for your desired things to be delivered but when you bless that things in advance, the distance between you and your dream gets shorter and shorter every time you bless it. 4. Fourth Resourceful Way to Attract Wealth is: “Trust the divine (the source)”. Never lose faith on DIVINE. Never ever wait for a person or a way for your happiness. If you really want happiness and 22

wealth ASK TO DIVINE and open up all your Channels to accept happiness and wealth from anywhere and from any source.“Why We Tend To Lose Faith In Universe & Think All Blessings Are Fake”. 5. Fifth Passionate Way to Attract Wealth is: “Find your true passion”. Your true passion is always necessary to be motivated for any achievement in life. There are thousands of books and workshops are available for you to guide you to attract wealth but if you don't have any passion to achieve or use it then they all are useless. So, search your TRUE passion which can make you crazy enough for your desire and then move further. 6. Sixth Interesting Way to Attract Wealth is: “Learn to receive”. Receiving is an art same as Giving. Most saints and teachers teach you how to give but with giving you must learn how to RECEIVE. Because without receiving you are jamming the ood of wealth. For example: if anyone gives you compliment never ever reject or avert it with “this is old thing” or any other sentence which reect your shyness.“Speed is Essential for Manifestation”.

10 AMAZING WAYS TO ATTRACT WEALTH INTO YOUR LIFE

7. Seventh Divine Way to Attract Wealth is: “Daily prayer”. Daily prayer even for ve minutes is enough to connect your inner SOUL. Daily prayer calms down you and recharges your soul with positivity. If you don't know how to pray then just pray “THANK YOU DIVINE” and that is enough. 8. Eighth Playful Way to Attract Wealth is: “Visualize you dreams in awaken state”. Visualization has a purely playful way to attract wealth in your life. More you play more you achieve. Use an

instrumental music with it. Visualize at-least 10 minutes daily what you want, how you want and how much you want. Always try to use clear cut images and other sensory information. You can use vision board to WIDEN your visualization skill. You batter know that where attention goes energy ows. 9. Ninth Holly way to Attract Wealth is: “Chanting shreem brzee mantra”. Few so called modern people never accept the value of chanting of wealth attracting mantra. Believe me that chanting of SHREEM BRZEE Mantra at-least 108 times daily makes your aura more positive and magnetic towards wealth and abundance. So try this way for 40 days and see the magic.

in your path. You are a divine being and you are here to play your role. Never let down anyone. You can never survive alone at the Earth. You need other human, trees, plants, and many other things for your support. Each and every person of the world has his/her own value. You might not know how much afarmer wworks hard to give you bread. You might not know how much sweat a drill man has shed to give fuel to your vehicle. You might be unaware about the scares in dark night and cold in winters a guard faces to give you a secure sleep. Be humble to everyone even every little ATOM.

10. Tenth Valuable Way to Attract Wealth is: “Give value to other”. This is a great way to stay away from your EGO. Your ego is a world’s biggest hurdle

AN ODE TO THE LOVE OF MY LIFE!!

MAY 2017

An ODE To The Love Of My Life!! been seen before. Because fashion for me today, is all about being comfortable in your skin !! I love fashion because i think it just expresses your true essence. I don't think women should look like costumes. They shouldn't look like fashion victims either. I have always loved fashion because it is the best way to express your moods. FASHION NEVER STOPS; there is always the new project, the new opportunity.

"I'm going to be a fashion icon" was my ultimate ambition at the age of 9. It was the only thing that i was obsessed with at that age, with no realisation of what fashion really and truely stands for. It was simply the image of this urban, glam chick that consumed all of me. Now when I look back, I realise that my understanding of fashion then was quite superď€ cial. Today after so many years my ambition remains sacrosanct - "I'm going to be a fashion icon". But i am not going to do it in a cliched manner. I have a voice that speaks for a whole other market - not just for high-fashion urban people. I mix street wear with high fashion in my own unique style - It's never

I grew up with a fashion obsessed mother and an elder sister, so I was exposed to fashion during my early years. The ď€ rst thing I remember owning was a Pierre Cardin jumpsuit when I was 9 or 10; I fell in love with it. When I look back today, I realise that my love for jumpsuit was for the happiness and emotional comfort it provided, and less for anything else. I have never considered myself a fashion designer, but I have always had an all-consuming PASSION FOR FASHION. Then I was just using fashion as a way to express my rebellious and noncomformist nature. It was my ambition to adapt to the vagaries of the world I live in.

my family, my model agency Storm, and all the people who are connected to me in the fashion industry. And ofcourse, there are all my followers on Instagram, Facebook & Snapchat. I love them all - their encouragement drives me to keep offering innovative yet practical fashion advice. I dont follow "WHATS IN" in fashion; I just listen to myself and move ahead with what I like. I wait for the right occasion or understand how i feel each day, to decide my new Avatar for that day. Fashion is a way to express your feelings and your aspitations. Not just design on an iPad. I came across many obstacles to reach my destination of success but my believe was Obstacles don't have to stop you as an individual If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it. I've always found that anything worth achieving will always have obstacles in the way and you've got to have that drive and determination to overcome those obstacles on route to whatever it is that you want to accomplish.

I have a great support network -

Y

&S Dance Academy is a premier belly dance school based in Mumbai. The founders of Y&S dance academy are Yagna Chheda & Smita Kadam , both with a wide experience of ten years in conducting classes and workshops They are two women who have dreams in their heart, dare in their minds and dance in their souls. Their dance and their teaching style is a strong reection of their

belief in holistic health and positive energy dynamics. Y&S Dance Academy was incepted with a unique vision: • To c re a t e a w a re n e s s o f Bellydance in India. To allow the Indian Woman the experience of the power and liberation of Bellydance.

Yagna, an Interior Designer by qualication and a mother of a lovely four year old daughter, has found her calling in Bellydance since 10 years. B o r n a n d b ro u g h t u p i n Muscat, she came to India for her higher studies. She got introduced to art of bellydance post her marriage and found herself getting deeply involved in the grace of bellydance . She soon started assisting her teacher in taking classes and got trained as an instructor. She quit her job as an Interior designer to pursue her passion of dancing and had her husband’s support encouraging her. Things took a turn after 26

she lost her husband in a car accident leaving her as a single parent for their one year old daughter. Post this incident she found herself in a situation where she could not connect with dance and had almost thought of quiting. But the true nature of the soul can never be suppressed and deep within she knew she had to get back and by God’s grace and support from family and friends ,she did make a comeback not only for herself but for her husband who would always want to see her fullling her dream of connecting with her true self through dancing and at the sametime help many women to connect with themselves t h ro u g h t h e g r a c e f u l y e t powerful form of bellydance. Even af ter she made her comeback in dancing, it was not a smooth ride with taking care of daughter and handling family responsibilities. But nothing is impossible if you know what you want to do. As she puts it in her own words “ M ot h erh ood keeps me happily moving and Bellydance keeps me beautifully grooving” To spread the awareness of the benets of Belly dance and yoga for pregnant women, she has launched her DVD “ B e l l y d a n c e a n d Yo g a i n Pregnancy” which was shot when she was 7 months pregnant

Y&S DANCE ACADEMY

About Smita…

Smita, a Chartered Accountant by qualication, is among the few who choose to explore their hearts true passion. Born in a small town in Maharashtra and brought up in Mumbai, dance has always been her passion since childhood. Even without any formal training she loved to perform whenever the opportunity arose. She got introduced to Jazz and Ballroom style of dance after she nished her graduation and had got done with her C.A.

Final exams. But somewhere within she knew it was not the 9 to 5 job that she was meant for. But since dance was not looked upon as a mainstream career back then, she tried her hand at event management and f re e l a n c e d a s a n e v e n t coordinator for few years. Dance took a backseat then with the stress at work and also problems in her family. Just when she again got back to dancing, she lost her father to Cancer. At the age of 27,when all her friends were settled with a well paid job , she had to make her choice. And that’s when her tryst with belly dance began and there was no looking back. She got trained to be an instructor and was motivated by her teacher Veronica Simas D’souza. She also got trained in Kathak and Lavani. It was not an easy journey since she had to work a lot on her physical training and overcome her own inhibitions. She then started her own classes with her partner Yagna, but little did they know that the journey there onward was full of

MAY 2017

challenges. After having started their own set up from the scratch, there was a turn in events with the sudden demise of her partner Yagna’s husband, responsibility of classes was on her. During this period she was going through her health problems with a pain in the leg constantly bothering her. This later on was diagnosed as a Back problem which was Grade II Dysplastic Listhesis( Bone slippage as well as slip disc). She was advised by the doctor to undergo a surgery. With her belief in God, she worked on herself and made a comeback to teaching dance in a year’s time. Connecting with your true self is what she believes in and bellydance is a holistic approach to accepting yourself and discovering the true goddess in each one.

Change is the only constant, is a proverb applicable to our lives. However, it is our responsibility to ensure that it applies to our money as well. It needs to keep changing owners, assets it has been invested into and safe houses. The last one is for the ones who have a lot of coloured money and you're expecting a meeting of government ofcials at your doorstep. You've got to be careful! Hi, I'm Falguni Shah. You can say that I was a boring Pathologist turned into a happy Financial Advisor. I know how to increase the value of my & your money. Obviously I'll be happy. Barack Obama has conveyed to all of the USA, what all of us need to understand in terms of our nance. I quote him, “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or other time.” Even though this is probably the worst interpretation of what he said and an entirely different context, it is totally apt for our nances. We are the ones who've got to make the correct decisions and make appropriate investments, as we all know that

deation is only theoretical, at least in a developing country like ours.

rupees. Talking about the ease with which one can secure his future, personal nancial management is 80% your own behavior and discipline and only 20% market related and investment knowledge How apt is this phrase? The following scenario will clear all your doubts.

With a plethora of investment opportunities available in the current nancial systems, this is where I, as a nancial advisor come into the picture. I made a very humble beginning under the name F U S E C A M C o ., where FUSEC stands for Future Securities. I have been handling a number of client portfolios, both domestic and international, now for a period of 10 years, with the number only increasing year after year. With time I've realized the importance of being nancially literate and independent, and thus at FUSEC AMCo, I aim to empower people at all ages to take responsibility of the wealth they possess. Younger the age at which one takes up this responsibility, greater are the chances of being nancially stable in the future. Hence, I have taken it upon myself to educate the future of this country, about the importance of money management, even if it is only a matter of 50 to 100 28

Case 1: A person earning handsome salary, might not be able to have a decent dependable corpus amount for his retirement and household expenses, due to unhealthy spending practices, impulsive investments and starting to save later in life. On the other hand; Case 2: A person having a mediocre yearly income and he starts saving small amounts at a younger age, in a disciplined manner and with proper guidance, has a greater possibility of achieving his nancial goals in the short term and the long term. It can be achieved due to the miracles of the “power of compounding”

HOW WE WISH

It is really as simple as that. There is no rocket science! Talking about personal behavior and discipline, we are focusing on planning. I try to understand people & their emotions, thus their nancial needs & goals. . I believe in dining with them through their thick & thin. What I've noticed in these 10 years of practice is that, a number of individuals have to compromise on their post retirement life due to insufcient funds. Thus I've learnt that “people don't plan to fail, they simply fail to plan”.

spending, our mentality of standing by our children whether they are 3 years old or thirty years old. Such mentality is what upholds the celebrated Indian culture we are known for. Thus, I end this article in the words of Warren Buffet, one of the greatest nancial wizards of our time. I quote, “Do not save after spending, but spend what is left after saving.”

9 . P ro p e r t y - H o u s e , Fa r m house, 10. Car, luxuries…etc

Planning is of utmost importance for every individual. The following events of life are essential in securing a person's future and thus in my opinion should be planned well in advance: 1. Life protection-adequate life insurance 2. Health emergencies

With the country becoming increasingly western in its approach to life and behaviors, I feel it is our mentality which has always stood apart. Our mentality of saving before

MYSTERY OF BIRTHMARKS

MAY 2017

Mystery of Birthmarks

E

very picture has it's own story.

Similarly every mole or mark on our body has it's own tale. Interesting! isn't it? We take life very casually, we don't observe, and just sail through life. Visible changes in life like the aging of our face and invisible changes like the subtle movement of the earth do not impact us until these the impact of these changes makes us uncomfortable in some or other form. Pain, be it physical or emotional halts us and makes us aware that we do need to make a choice. The impact of trauma is at times so great that it leaves an impact not only on our life but the progeny as well which is evident as birth marks on the new born child. Our psyche and our body are closed related. Marks on the psyche reciprocate marks on our b o d y. T h e i n a b i l i t y o f a pregnant lady to develop ight and ight response in defence to a situation creates an impact on her mind which can be evident on the foetus.

Case study : Miss X, is 20 years old, beautiful with shinny black thick hair and dull eyes having birth marks on her back, corner of the left eye and right elbow and arm and left hip. I analysed the conicts behind her condition using an integration of her landscape drawings, Luscher colour test and META-Health. Drawings help us to access the subconscious mind and reach to the rst six years of a persons life. The Lüscher color test is a psychological test invented by Dr. Max Lüscher who believed that colour selections are guided in an unconscious manner, they reveal the person as they really are, not as they perceive themselves or would like to be perceived. META-Health is the science, practice and art of Body-Mind-Social Health with a focus on how specic stress triggers, emotions and beliefs affect specic organ symptoms Miss X's, drawing and her choice of colours showed that she was extremely guarded and feeling very responsible for happiness and safety of her mother. She expressed that, she did not like living with her parents. According to her, her parents had internal conicts and despite being unhappy and intolerant of each other, 30

were pretending that their marriage was perfect. This made her wonder, why were they playing this difcult game with each other when it would have been easier for them to leave. She wanted and hoped that her parents would take responsibility for the damage they had inicted on her and her brother. She was angry with her mother for giving birth her. She felt unloved and uncared for by her parents and they were unaware of her whereabouts on a daily basis. She also had feared for her mothers safety and felt obligated to protect her. Her state made me realise the intensity of her emotions which varied in spectrum from helplessness, hurt, anger, confusion to feeling emotionally disconnected and wanting complete freedom, to the extent of not wanting to exist. Her life felt meaningless, surrounded with mood swings ranging from extreme anger to extreme need to belong in loving relationship. Interrogation of her mother, Mrs.'Y' revealed that during her pregnancy with Miss 'X', she did not feel connected to anyone or anything . Mrs.'Y' was a pampered child before marriage, marital responsibilities transformed her life; the pampered feeling

MYSTERY OF BIRTHMARKS

was replaced by ill-treatment , unrealistic adjustments, helplessness, hurt, anger, confusion, emotional disconnection and want of complete freedom, just similar to what her daughter was feeling today. , She had to learn the art of being a pleaser to survive in a joint family setup wherein, she had to adjust not only with her husband's need for unnatural sex, [her husband was a sadist - a sadist is person who derives pleasure, especially sexual gratication, from inicting pain or humiliation on others] but also with a very dominating mother-in-law, this had deep impact her as well as the unborn babies psyche. She had to keep a very delicate balance wherein she needed to feel that she had done a great role of being a daughter-in-law, a mother to her kids and a good wife to husband. She felt that she did not have a choice, but to succumb to physical, emotional mental torture to maintain the harmony for her house. She wanted her daughter to display empathy, understanding and love , she also wanted Miss X to understand and forgive her. Mr's Y also had a silent expectation through out pregnancy, that the birth of miss X was going transform her bad destiny and marriage into a meaningful and

peaceful life. Marital sexual abuse is common in India and our laws have no such protection for females. It is assumed that If the couple has a child then they are happy. The ugliness of martial discord is camouaged by the expectations of adjustment. It is considered safe to stay in such a marriage than take any action due to the fear of dirty linen being washed in the public causing public scrutiny and humiliation created by tarnished self-image in public. Lets understand what were the birthmarks connected with. Each mark on miss X's body had a different story and tonality.

The birth mark around the corner of the left eye was connected the emotional need of Mrs Y for love and affection from her husband. Her needed to be supported within a joint family by her 31

husband, this made her peep through the corner of her eyes to see if her husband was around to support her. Since he was never around and need to be embraced left unfullled and this left a dark mark on her daughters face, at the corner of her left eye. Mothers need had translated and got transferred to her unborn baby as this need had increased in pregnancy.

Miss X had a birth mark on her right arm as if there were nger marks. Like the marks which are left behind when one holds the persons arm. On probing, as to who had held Mrs. Y ar m during pregnancy , and what was a traumatic event that had lead to such deep birth mark on her daughters arms brought up surpassed memory. Along with nerves racking sobs and screams she narrated the incident where of how she was feeling pregnancy pangs to eat compulsively a food delicacy called pav bhaji [ a food delicacy of west of India].She entered the kitchen to cook and her mother-in-law caught her by her arm and threw her physi-

cally out of the kitchen. This brutal physical abuse made Mrs Y her so angry, that she tried to push her mother-inlaw's rm grip with her elbow. She had buried and created a fossil of this incident and the subsequent hurt and insult inner mind as well as in the form of a birth mark on her daughter's arm and elbow.

The mark on the on her left hip: Any mark on the hip talks about sexual stories. Mr's Y confessed that her husband used to beat and bite her to feel excited and have a normal erection Once during her

pregnancy he had beaten her up and bit her hips and she was unable to stop him despite being traumatic. Her unborn baby was carrying all her mothers insult, hurt, pain and abuse on her hip. Miss X had not only carried her mothers traumas on her physical body but also emotional traumas in her psyche, which explained her antisocial and self - sabotage behaviour. She had a love hate relationship with her-self and her mother. Twenty one years after the onset of the above traumas, Mr's Y mother was unravelling the mystery of birthmarks. This was possible with knowledge of META-Health. Now, she has moved ahead into the journey of empowerment by taking essential steps to protect

MAY 2017

herself and her children which included, moving to s separate room though under the same roof. She still maintains the look of perfect marriage outside but has starting dealing with things at her home front. In he mind today she has dealt with few demons that had troubled her. Her daughter has nally been asked by her mother to stop trying to protect her , the daughter and mother both felt happier and grateful to the universe. Deal with your traumas before your traumas deal with you by scaring your physical and mental and emotional health. Remember God is within you and you are the only person who can free you. So give yourself permission to move ahead with passion, love and fun.

5 HABITS OF HIGHLY STYLISH WOMEN

MAY 2017

5 Habits of Highly Stylish Women

W

hat does it mean to be “stylish”? Does it mean that you always have to wear the latest trends, the best designer clothes, or make a fashion statement? What if your style is more toned down than what you see on The Page 3.Does this mean you're not really as “fashionable” as you thought you were? Not at all! Being stylish doesn't mean any of the above, but we can say that stylish people tend to have certain habits that the others don't possess. Here's what I have learned as an I m a g e C o n s u l t a n t , Fa s h i o n Enthusiast, Personal Branding and Ex- Compulsive Shopper. 1) They have realistic positive body image hence they have high self-esteem and high condence They are comfortable with their bodies but not laid back. They are passionate about tness and eating healthy is more like a lifestyle choice. Dressing is not about weight, shape or size. They exactly know what looks good on them. They know to convert their weakness (so called in denitions of the ideal body image created by the media) into strength. Think Nandita Das sporting her dusky skin, Michelle Obama, Meghan Trainor and much more. Stylish women are at peace with themselves and they understand style isn't about trends, it's about themselves. They don't follow any

rules, they make their own rules. 2) They understand labels don't make them cooler. They aren't slaves to fashion It sounds cliché, but the most stylish women—and men, for that matter in the world are ones who have condence, and who know they don't need the $700 sweatshirt or $2,000 handbag to make themselves appear cool. These folks can step out in a faded gray tee and jeans and still look like the coolest person in the room all because they have condence (okay ne, and probably a killer haircut, too). Some of the most stylish people are able to have fun with fashion and follow trends without looking like a slave. If you don't like a trend even if every blogger under the sun is wearing it—don't buy into it. It's that simple. 3) They don't try to perfect! They always look a little less “done” than everyone else They are at ease dressing well come easily and naturally. They never try too hard and try leaving a part of their outt like a lace undone or sleeves not folded perfectly. Hair undone or the shirt half untucked and yet end up looking effortlessly stylish. Highly stylish people are often in the habit of always appearing a teeny tiny bit too cool for every scenario they're in. This might

mean wearing a pair of slip-on sneakers when every other girl is teetering on sky-high heels. 4) They always have a STATEMENT PIECE They will always have that one statement piece. A ring, a creative clutch in silk or zari border or encrusted with kundan, a lapel pin or an interesting tie pin with an insect on it. "Less is more” when it comes to jewellery and makeup, stylish women recognize that the eye can only take in so many competing items, colors, and textures at a time. 5) They are a package They know that being stylish is not only about clothes, about being well groomed, having high levels of hygiene and smelling great at all times , They have a winning posture It's not just the clothes that are important -- it's how you wear them .Stylish women know that clothes drape better over properly aligned bodies that walk tall. Take note of your posture as you walk or stand. Every time you feel yourself slouching, make a point of readjusting and standing up straight, hold your head high , make eye contact have a great rm handshake , have respectful manners and be empathetic, have a killer purposeful walk and automatically you will be a head turner with your condent dazzling smile.
