Dodge County is located in Southcentral Wisconsin. One memorable and acclaimed location to visit is Ledge Park; which covers 82 acres of land along the internationally recognized, Niagara Escarpment. A natural limestone rock ledge provides majestic views and divides the park into lower and upper areas. It overlooks the beloved Horicon Marsh and verdant countryside. The thickly wooded land offers many hiking trails with stunning views of the Horicon Marsh, rock formations, a wildlife pond, many picnic areas, playgrounds, as well as campsites, restrooms, and showering facilities. The remarkable geological formations along the picturesque trails connect Dodge County to a wealth of history, culture and ecology. The park sits between Mayville and Horicon, off of Park Road. The Gold Star Memorial Trail (GSMT) connects Mayville to the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center. The name of the trail holds special meaning, the trail serves as a memorial to fallen service members of Wisconsin. The Gold Star Memorial Trail can be used yearround for walking, hiking, biking, running, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing; improving access to healthy lifestyle opportunities for generations to come. The beauty and nature along the trail are sought by many who seek solace and the comfort of peacefulness. Dodge County offers residents the opportunity to enjoy a rural and quiet lifestyle while having the amenities that larger and more urban areas provide. Recreation There are countless ways to play in Beaver Dam during every season of the year with area attractions and outdoor recreation! It is home to Beaver Dam Lake which is a fourteen-mile lake, with a maximum depth of seven feet, that provides all season fishing fun. The Beaver Dam Lake has forty-one miles of shoreline and endless opportunities for outdoor adventures like fishing, duck hunting, boating, paddling, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. You can also seek out adventure by paddling the Beaver Dam River. Start from the urban city center and watch the landscape change to rural farmland and wooden corridors as you meet both challenging white waters and lazy river sections. Beaver Dam has two beautiful 18 hole golf courses, Beaver Dam Country Club and Old Hickory Golf Club. The Beaver Dam Family Center Ice Arena is home to the Swan City Skaters and the Beaver Dam Hockey Association and is also available for open skating. Racing enthusiasts will enjoy the Beaver Dam Raceway, an exciting dirt track racing venue May through October. And your summer will not be complete without taking in a Beaverland Must-Skis show. Special Events in Beaver Dam Beaver Dam hosts a number of annual events, including the Great Beaver Paddle Festival, Taste of Wisconsin, Lake Days, A Day in the Park Craft Fair, Beaver Dam Pepper Festival, Fall Downtown Fest, The Chamber of Commerce Corn Roast, the Holiday Parade and Cabin Fever Fest. You can also enjoy live entertainment throughout the summer. Concerts in the Park are on Wednesday evenings at the Swan Park Band Shell. Jam by the Dam, is a free summer concert series that takes place at Tahoe Park on Beaver Dam Lake one Friday a month in June, July and August.

Mayville Engineering Company was founded in 1945 by Ted and Leo Bachhuber who started their endeavor in a garage in Mayville, Wisconsin. While the COVID-19 pandemic affected health care delivery in many ways, one positive change as a result was the greater utilization of telehealth technologies that offer convenience to patients while providing greater access both to local providers and those normally outside their area. The BDCH Foundation helped Marshfield Medical Center-Beaver Dam take this utilization a step further by awarding a significant $100,000 grant for the purchase of four telehealth mobile

carts that will be utilized in various rural locations and provide access to family medicine and specialized providers in offsite locations. While this has practical and convenient applications for virtual family medicine visits, orthopedics and general surgery follow-ups and dermatology consults, it also has the potential to serve a dire Dodge County need for behavioral health services. “The ability to bring these incredibly gifted specialists to Dodge County and improve access to this type of care is one of the most rewarding aspects of my job,” said Angelia Foster, Chief Administrative Officer of Marshfield Medical Center-Beaver Dam. “Whether it was 100 years ago or throughout this difficult pandemic, we’ve proven through generations that we’ll always be here for the residents of Dodge County and beyond. The neighboring communities of Cambria and Friesland are nestled in the northeastern part of Columbia County. They provide great hunting and hiking grounds with a vast array of fowl and wildlife. Future segments will extend the trail to connect with the Wild Goose State Trail and on to the City of Beaver Dam to create a significant regional connection between communities.

The trail connects to miles of hiking trails at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center – riding of bikes is not currently permitted on the Horicon Marsh hiking trails. Another segment of the trail utilizing marked city roads from the Horicon Marsh at Palmatory Street to the west end of Horicon at Whitty Park is also now open.

GOLD STAR MEMORIAL TRAIL

The newest non-motorized trail in Dodge County is the Gold Star Memorial Trail which currently links the City of Mayville to the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center via a separated path along Hwy 28 and Hwy TW. This trail serves as an important recreational trail for residents and visitors and serves as a memorial to fallen military service members of Dodge County and Wisconsin. The trail is for non-motorized use, primarily biking and hiking, and provides opportunities for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter months.

Dodge County welcomes horseback riding on a separate 14-mile pathway along the Wild Goose State Trail between Highway 60 and Pautsch Road (about four miles north of Burnett). Trail terrain is generally easy riding, although special caution is necessary in areas with steep side slopes, wet crossings and near highways and roads. The trail surface is grass, dirt and wood chips and winds through wooded and open areas in the right-of-way of the Wild Goose Trail. Horses are not allowed on the limestone-surfaced trail except at designated horse trail crossings.

AUTO TOURS

The glaciers that once covered Dodge County have sculpted a landscape ideal for auto touring. Several scenic overlooks around the Horicon Marsh allow you to view the wetland’s wildlife. Follow the brown signs that mark the route of the Horicon Marsh Parkway, a 50-mile auto tour that encircles the Horicon Marsh and follows state and county highways through Burnett, Kekoskee, Horicon, Mayville and Waupun. The Parkway is easily accessible from U.S. Highway 151 or State Highway 41 by following State Highway 33 to access the south end of the Parkway or Highway 49 to access the north end of the Parkway.

Snowmobile enthusiasts will find an interconnected system of more than 320 miles of groomed county snowmobile trails that traverse farm fields, woodlots, lowlands and the Wild Goose State Trail, with another 180 miles of unfunded “club-owned” trails available for use within the county. Trails provide access to trail systems in neighboring counties. The “club-owned” trails serve more of the local users often connecting the county trails and populated areas that provide food, service and overnight facilities. ATV Trails

Dodge County opens 20 miles of ATV trails from Dec. 1 Mar. 31. Riding is only permitted during that time when the county has officially declared the trail open. The ATV trail can be opened if there is sufficient ground freeze or snowbase to prevent damage to the trail surface. The trails are primarily located on the surfaced areas of Wild Goose State Trail and the designated ATV trail routes through Burnett and East Waupun. The ATV trail runs from the parking lot at Highway 60 north to Highway 49. Go to dodgeparks.com for trail openings.

WILD GOOSE STATE TRAIL

Wild Goose State Trail links the City of Juneau - "Gateway to the Wild Goose Trail" and the City of Fond du Lac. This 34 mile compacted limestone trail on an abandoned railroad grade traverses oak woodlots, fertile farm fields, prairie remnants and sparkling streams as it runs through the rural country sides of Dodge and Fond du Lac Counties and skirts the western edge of the internationally known Horicon Marsh National Wildlife Refuge. Wildlife, scenery and level surface provide safe, easy and enjoyable biking and hiking for all ages. Parking and trail access available at the southern trail head at Highway 60 and the northern trail head on Rolling Meadows Drive in Fond du Lac and numerous points between. County and private campgrounds located nearby. A separate horse trail tread runs from Highway 60. The trail can be opened for snowmobile and ATV use in winter.

The ROCK RIVER WATER TRAIL is proud to be a designated National Water Trail. The water trail meanders down a gentle gradient through beautiful rural and wilderness landscapes and urban riverfronts to safely carry the water traveler 320 miles from the headwaters above the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge in south central Wisconsin to the Mississippi River at the Quad Cities of Illinois and Iowa.

The BEAVER DAM RIVER is also great for recreational paddling. Cotton Mill Park to County Road J, is a section of the Beaver Dam River that begins as an exhilarating urban paddle before quieting down towards the outskirts of town amongst suburban development, then narrowing again and alternating between wooded corridors, farmland and finally to a wider, almost marshy stretch, before the take-out. Add in a quite handsome train bridge, some minor drops and riffles, and you have yourself a great trip if you can catch it at the right levels. A new kayak launch will be installed soon at Cotton Mill Park. Check out Beaver Paddlers on facebook for updates on river conditions and shuttle information.

The gentle current you’ll find on the ROCK AND CRAWFISH RIVERS make them ideal for paddling. One of the most popular launches is Harnischfeger Park on the Rock River. Canoe and kayak rentals are also available here. Paddlers can travel upstream for 17 miles to Hustisford or downstream 25 miles to Watertown.

BEAVER DAM LAKE

As the 16th largest lake in Wisconsin, Beaver Dam Lake is the home of a variety of wildlife and fun events all year round. There are five city parks and one county park, as well as six boat landings making for easy access. The lake is well suited for non-motorized vessels like kayaks, canoes and standup paddle boards (rentals available at Waterworks Park) and with 6,542 acres there is plenty of room for pontoon boats, water skiers, fishing boats and wave runners. Winter brings the snowmobilers, skiers and ice fishermen. The lake is home to a variety of fish, including northern pike, walleye, bass, catfish, bullhead and a variety of pan fish. Events in and around the lake include fish tournaments, kids Fish ‘n Fun, Lake Days celebration and The Great Beaver Paddle Festival as well as being home to the nationally recognized Beaverland Must-Ski Water Shows. Lake Size: 6,542 Acres Maximum Depth: 11 Ft.

LAKE SINISSIPPI

Lake Sinissippi is a haven for wildlife. The fisheries consist of northern pike, walleye, catfish and carp. A variety of waterfowl are either residents or visitors to the lake every year. American white pelicans, sandhill cranes, blue

herons, Canada geese, eagles and others provide great opportunities for bird watching. Each season brings new activities and opportunities. The Lake Sinissippi Ski Club offers “Learn to Ski” programs every summer. The LSA 4th of July Lakefest and the Venetian Nite lighted boat parade in August highlight the summer events. Water skiing, swimming, wave runners, pontooning, kayaking, and canoeing are activities enjoyed all summer long. There are many places to explore with nine islands, backwaters and feeder creeks. Winter brings ice racing, snowmobiling and skiing to the snow covered ice. Lake Sinissippi is a wildlife haven with easy access for all boaters. Lake Size: 2,855 Acres Maximum Depth: 8 Ft.

FOX LAKE

The City of Fox Lake is located on the southeast shore of the lake where a city park with a boat landing provides recreational access. A town park with a boat landing provides access on the north side of the lake. Fox Lake is heavily used for boating, water skiing, and fishing. Fox Lake drains toward Beaver Dam Lake via Mill Creek.

LAKE EMILY

Lake Emily is a shallow, fertile lake located in the extreme northwest corner of Dodge County. The lake provides a quality fishery primarily of perch, bluegills, largemouth bass, and northern pike and receives heavy usage year round. Much of the lakeshore is developed with cottages and homes, except for the west side which is still undeveloped. A town-owned boat landing provides good fishing and boating access on the southern end of the lake. Lake Size: 268 Acres Maximum Depth: 17 Ft.

LOST LAKE

Lost Lake is located in west-central Dodge County. The lake is popular for fishing. Much of the shoreline consists of marshy areas. Boat ramps exist on the north and south sides of the lake as extensions of the town roads. Lake Size: 245 Acres Maximum Depth: 11 Ft.

Horicon Marsh Education & Visitor Center

N7725 Hwy 28, Horicon As of March 2021 closed due to Covid-19. The restrooms located at the entrance to the Horicon Marsh Education & Visitor Center are open and cleaned daily 8am - 4pm. The Center is a state facility and requires the use of a mask or face covering to enter in accordance with the statewide mandate. Though you may not enter the center yet, Curly the Mammoth invites you to still come out and enjoy the hiking trails around the Center. Trails are open during daylight hours and waiting for you to explore while keeping safe social distance from others. Horicon Marsh is not a State or National park; therefore, no fees are required to enter or use the trails. Continue to check www.horiconmarsh.org for updates on opening and hours. The Wildlife Education Program focuses on the abundant wildlife resources of the marsh, their ecology and management. DNR educators rely on the diverse wildlife to develop a wide range of educational programs aimed at introducing and sharing our native wildlife with a broad audience. Horicon Marsh Education & Visitor Center serves as both a destination and gateway for visitors to Horicon Marsh as well as providing for year-round educational opportunities. More than 500,000 people visit Horicon Marsh annually to observe wildlife in a natural setting, creating a huge demand for interpretive services. The facility has an auditorium, two classrooms, the Flyway Gift Shop, public viewing area, wildlife displays, a Children’s Discovery Area and other building amenities. Today, guests of Horicon Marsh’s “Explorium” can get a glimpse of life at Horicon Marsh thousands of years before European settlement and witness how the current wetland came to be. A wooly mammoth replica that children are free to touch and climb represents wildlife that roamed the land during the Ice Age. An airboat simulator gives visitors a thrilling perspective on the management and conservation activities currently occurring on the marsh before heading out to enjoy it for themselves.

HORICON MARSH AREA EXPERIENCE IT

Get outdoors this year and experience the wildlife and many seasons of natural beauty at Horicon Marsh. The Horicon Marsh Parkway is a 50-mile auto tour route that follows state and county roadways around the marsh, passing through or near many local communities. There are also roads, hiking and biking trails throughout the property, and a canoe trail accessing the waters of the marsh.

Spring marks the return of mallard ducks,

coots, herons, egrets, sandhill cranes, purple martins, warblers, and numerous others. A “chorus” of frogs is sure to be heard throughout the marsh signaling that warmer weather is here. The Horicon Marsh Bird Festival is held annually in May and offers many opportunities to view and photograph spring migrants and resident wildlife.

Summer brings nesting season

and warmer weather for hiking and bicycling around the marsh to view an array of bird species with their young. American white pelicans nest abundantly on the marsh during the summer and may be seen feeding in large groups – “herding” fish into shallower water for easier dining. Several fishing piers are also available at the marsh and make great places to spend relaxing summer afternoons.

Fall is well known for the mass

migration of birds (and visitors!) to the marsh - Canada geese, as well as thousands of ducks of many different species – mallards, wood ducks, pintails, wigeon, redheads, bufflehead, and ruddy ducks; as well as impressive numbers of staging sandhill cranes. Opportunities also exist to view whooping cranes. Although closed for waterfowl hunting, the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge is open for deer and small game hunting seasons in the fall. However there is waterfowl hunting in the State Wildlife Area. Many educational programs and events are held marsh-wide throughout the season.

Winter is characterized as a frozen but

peaceful time on the marsh and is also a good season for wildlife viewing. Eagles, owls, several species of hawks, muskrats, foxes and other wildlife, or evidence of, such as tracks or feathers, may be sighted when the entire marsh is open to snowshoeing, hiking, and cross country skiing (Dec. - Mar.). Snowy owls are a notable species to watch for during the winter months.

Juneau is the county seat of Dodge County. METALCRAFT OF MAYVILLE EMPLOYEES MAKE THE DIFFERENCE Metalcraft of Mayville can trace its heritage to Peerless Traveling Goods Company, which was founded in Mayville in 1920. Peerless would manufacture various types of luggage products until the company ceased operations and was sold in 1958. In 1926, J. Dorst Company, a die sinking business, also began in Mayville. The company eventually converted into a metal stamping operation which produced parts for the automotive industry, as well as for Peerless Traveling Goods. The company name was changed to Dorst Metalcraft in the 1940’s and the business and again changed its focus to sheet metal fabricating; producing items to customer contract specifications. Dorst Metalcraft purchased the assets of Peerless Traveling Goods in 1958. Dorst Metalcraft was purchased Edwin A. “Ned” Gallun Jr., in 1973 and within a year, a new

In 1974, the company officially changed its name to Metalcraft of Mayville Inc. and a section of County Highway V was renamed Metalcraft Drive. The company employed approximately 100 men and women by the end of the decade. Metalcraft of Mayville is set on 45 acres; the facility includes corporate offices and over 400,000 square feet of manufacturing space and 20 loading decks. We serve the agricultural, forestry, construction, industrial, military and mining markets. Metalcrafts’ vast expansion over the decades has expanded with locations in Mayville, West Bend, Beaver Dam, New Berlin and Watertown.
