POST PRO

INTRODUCTION

Fringe Unity is a project, designed to bring more joy, unity and capture memorable moments in clients’ minds, by suggesting proper work and entertainment spaces in an exciting volumetric building. Our clients were both Fringe staff and people. I tried to cover most of the client s requests and needs through this design project. This site is located in the intersection of the East Terrace and the Rundle Street, and is closed to Runle Park. This site is a potential site, as it is located in a busy place, near popular and busy locations in Adelaide city such as Rundle Park, Rundle Street and East Terrace. This project covers both required spaces for Fringe Club and Fringe Headquarters staff.

YUCK CIRCUS PERFORMANCE

DANCER’S MOVEMENT PATH I captured the essence of the dancers’ performance, by sketching their movement paths and the shapes were created in between their bodies while dancing, in an abstract way.

SHAPES WITHIN DANCER’S BODIES Scanned by CamScanner

Then I retraced my scanned sketches in Rhino. I tried arranging different shapes across a path from my path skeches in different ways and sweep them around that path to make my abstract base form. TRANSFROMED SKETCHES INTO RHINO CURVES

02

After creating my final abstract base form, I made a bounding box for it to be fit inside. Next, I used wirecut technique and cutted the object in different angles, into different pieces. After deviding small cutted pieces of the bounding box, from the main bigger pieces in between, my volume was created.

03

FINAL VOLUME This volume was a really successful outcome of the volume making process. Having different faces in different angles makes this volume an interesting potential model. In terms of aesthetics, I like the shape as this shape has the potential to create an exiciting circulation flow in the final model.

PHYSICAL MODEL FROM 300 GSM PAPER

05

Building the physical model was an important step in my design decision making process, as it helped to imagine how my design will look like in reality physically. After this step I recognised my model has many potential spaces which make it to be a good choice for Fringe Unity project.

In the next step, I rescaled my model to its original size on site using the size tool and created multiple 2D drawings from my volume from diffrent angles around it. Then, I overlayed the 2D views to create a field and then arranged the field around my volume in 2 axes. I used the field as a guide to find different shapes to be extruded within my volume and to help me cutting through the volume. By this method, I cut the volume in different pieces and created some voids and spaces within that.

This model has many potential spaces to be used and many spaces and areas to be discovered by the clients. It was quite hard organising the spaces for the brief requirements as less spaces could be found to have enough space in between because of the slanted walls of the model. Among all the interior spaces, I found these zones so interesting and functional at the same time. Stage room, the kitchen designed for HQ, meeting room and the outdoor bar’s balcony have slanted walls but they also provide enough space for the clients to reside. Outdoor bar’s balcony creates a unique area on top of the model with a pleasant and enjoyable view from above to the city of Adelaide.

My design provides proper spaces for both Fringe Works staff and Fringe Headquarters staff, as the clients desired. Unfortunately, I was not able to design required spaces for Fringe Warehouse in my model, because I didn’t have enough spaces for fitting them all. Instead I tried to respond to Fringe Works staff and Fringe Headquarters staff design desires in a great way.

RETURN BRIEF & PROGRAM X (RELAXATION AREA) This project is about bringing Fringe Head Quarters, Fringe works and fringe club staff together by providing a new workspace which is pleasant, peaceful and enjoyable at the same time. The site locates in the North West corner of East Terrace and Rundle Street intersection as shown in the site plan. I organized all the spaces of Fringe HQ, Fringe works and club in my project as desired in the brief. I have also designed an extra space as my program X. As we know Fringe Works staff use the Studio during the day but during night time the studio is left without being used. Moreover, Fringe Works Studio has a potential space in my design and the area is about 250 square meters. After an accurate space analysis within my model, I recognised it will a great idea to use the Fringe Works Studio space for my program X at night time. After some investigation, I also foundout, there isn’t any space which is mentioned to be organised as a space for staff to rest and enjoy the rest of their time at night after a long time working, among all the spaces specified in the brief. Therefore, I decided to design my program X as RELAXATION AREA. This program is very useful, demanding and cost effective at the same time. With some beautiful functional furniture we can provide a space within the studio area to be used both during day and night by staff for resting. This project is about combining the studio with another program called relaxation area.

This design project, provides many unique spaces inside and outside for the clients to explore and spend their precious time in them. Providing enough space for the staff with its slanted walls and having many exciting spaces that makes the clients curious to explore them, makes this project worthy to be considered as a new workspace for clients and fringe staff. This project will create memorable moments in clients’ minds.

INTERIOR RENDERS

Skin design was so effective in giving the spaces a different essence, by providing more light and beauty inside the internal spaces. Triangular apertures on the building skin, not only help the clients save electricity and use the natural sun light effectively, but also dance of triangular apertures on the floor makes this design unique and memorable in clients’ minds. Having the skin not only helped me with the lighting of my design but also it is a beautiful special external facade, which makes the design to be unique in the environment compared to other buildings around.
